Hey guys. I'm having an odd problem. I'm not sure what the proper terminology would be to describe it but my screen randomly "flickers?" or "refreshes?" itself. It's pretty similar to the effect you get when you click on a link within an app and it does a Window Transition to either a website, opens a new app, etc. It is doing this without being triggered by any user interaction. I can be within an app or looking at my home screen (not touching the screen at all) and it will do this transition animation thing with the result being itself. Unfortunately, I am unable to recreate the scenario at will. It is completely random. Sometimes happening within minutes of itself and other times it will happen hours apart.
It started happening again as I'm typing. Since it looks a window animation, I went into Developer Option and changed "Window Animation Scale", "Transition Animation Scale", and "Animator Duration Scale" all to OFF. It is still doing it but now it just looks different when it does it. It's more like a flash now.
Have any of you experienced this before? If so, were you able to resolve the issue in any way? I apologize if my description isn't that great. If you need more info just let me know. Thanks a head of time for anyone who can offer even just a suggestion.

i think something its wrong in the system, this may sound too heavy for a solution but you should reflash your firmware.

Thanks so much for the response! After a few days of pulling my hair out about this...Would you believe that after I froze "MotorolaOTA" in Titanium Backup (I was tired of getting asked to update to 4.4.4) that I haven't experienced this issue anymore. Not a single flash, flicker, etc. Does that make any bit of sense lol? I can't believe that would cause my device to do that. Of course, it could just be coincidence that it stopped after I froze the OTA reminder. I don't know though, it sure does make it seem like that was the problem.

Anyone ever see the message "Process system not responding". Here's the story.
Well, I've been installing apps like a loose cannon, figuring I may be dooming myself to a hard reset, and it may have come to pass.
Last thing that happened while the phone was running good, was I ran the demo of the 3D game XXXXXXXXX. I received a call, and had to hop away, and after that the phone became unresponsive. Looking at what was loaded with Advanced Task Killer, I did not see the game to kill, so I turned off the phone.
Now, it is taking a very long time to 'boot'. The Phone is Locked screen would pop up, and I'd try to slide it off, and it would slide about half off. Screen black except for the clock of the lock screen. And after sliding off half way, the screen would go black, as if it was off, but then the lock screen would come back.
Kept thinking that ultimately it would finish. After a bit I got the task bar at top, and it was saying preparing internal memory'Preparing Internal Mass Storage"; then finally " Media scanner running". Finally a few icons from the dock. But everything else still black.
Then finally it would come up with a big message "Sorry!. Process system is not responding. buttons for Force close, and Wait. I don't know if that is an Android message, or an app message. I tried force close, and it went back into the same iteration of events.
So the next time i tried a boot, I did not respond to the message for a while, and it seemed to be making progress behind the message. It went off, I turned it back on, it had lock screen, moved it off a bit easier.
Then finally it came up more screen things in place. Then again with a message "Process system is nto responding". Let it set 'til it went off again. This time it came up a bit futher, and this time it came up with window to select launcher. I selected TWiz launcher. Process message again, and I killed it this time.
Whewh...Still not resolved.
I guess if there are any suggestions short of hard reset, i'm interested in hearing. maybe one of you have had this happen. If it ever finishes loading, first thing I'm going to do is remove that game.
One thing that is a pain and I think contributes, is that so many apps load by default it seems. And the more you install the more that happens, from what I have seen. I know I don't have as many apps installed as I've seen others reference, but I do have 2-3 different memory type utilities that I've wondered if they woudl interfere with each othre, but they supposedly don't all load at boot.
Post long enough. I'll add more if I find anything interesting.

Well, the above post exactly describes what I have on my Captivate as well. Long boot times, "process system not responding", black screens, media scanner running/completed repeatedly, severe lagging...
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this issue? I've uninstalled my most recent apps, but it has not made any difference. Many thanks for any guidance!
Sounds like both of you need to restore to stock...Look in the Dev section for the Stock Odin3 1 click post..it is a sticky so it should be up towards the top..Follow the instructions and you will be back to stock...
The problems I mention above occur mostly during a reboot. The phone does eventually come up, with only occasional lagging still left (which may be more typical). I am torn between dealing with the lagging until Froyo is released (hopefully later this month) or perform the "restore to stock" you mention.
If I decide to "restore to stock", does that mean I lose everything? apps, messages, config, customizations, etc.
And if I lose everything, can I restore some apps with Titanium Backup? TB was loaded 2-3 weeks ago and I do have a full backup.
When Froyo comes, will it require the same or will it upgrade the existing OS and leave apps alone?
Many thanks for your response jhernand1102
I did that too, I sett a replacement lock screen wrong (because it asked me too) and there I was with out s phone for a few hours. The one click odin didn't work for me though. So I used the updated stock rom jh2 i believe. Look for the stock rom threads in developers forum as well as the one click odin.
If the one click odin doesn't work feel free to pm me with questions on the other rom.
Make sure you read it but they is a lot there that may confuse you.

With titanium backup you should be fine. I haven't used it but that's the point of it. A reflash may be easier the finding the error and correcting the problem. And during any flash you may have some risk of losing something but I don't think, going to froyo will lose apps by design. Anyway you have titanium backup and samsung kies to help you keep everything.
Good luck!

I guess I forgot to post back what I had to do...having had no replies at all. I think I ended up in another thread.
Anyway...I did in fact have to reflash. Using the one-click which I believe is this thread is what I used.

Thanks to all for replying today! I will go ahead and re-flash to stock. I was hoping it would be longer (a few months) before I'd have to re-load, but I guess when you live on the edge (root and lots of installs), ya gotta be ready for things to go wrong.
I do love this phone though and Android after being on a BB for so many years! It is pretty much a 1.0, so we should expect bugs and work arounds until they work the kinks out. In a crazy sort of way, it is still fun to work through these gotchas. Thanks again!
Yeah. I really hated the idea of a reflash.
but, if you haven't yet, you need to look in the DEV thread, and look into Clockwork Mod and Rom Recovery. As well, you should get teh paid version of Titanium backup.
Between those two things, occasional reflash and reload is not too painful.
I've learned so much today! Got the paid version of Titanium Backup for an easy "restore all via batch" and also did the ROM Mgr / Clockwork Recovery (thanx ewingr). So, I now have the best of both worlds for getting out of a jam and looking forward to trying out any new ROM's that may come out; with ease thanks to these apps!
I've been getting a strange issue lately. It can happen in any app, but it usually occurs during or just after a transition of some sort (sliding or something like that). The problem is that I get a field of random graphical static somewhere on the screen. While I've seen it happen in quite a few apps it happens randomly and I can't reliably reproduce it. It almost always happens in the same places in each app, however.
I've attached a screenshot (the static is the block in the top-left corner). This particular app is Reddit News Pro, but like I said, it can happen in almost any app. I'm on stock 5.0.1 on my N5, rooted, Xposed.

I find it interesting that is happening at a software level, were you able to take screenshots as well? I once had a glitch that looked like that, only on the status bar when opening the feedly settings on lollipop. I don't use lollipop and I've never seen it again.
If the phone is certainly dying, I once held a galaxy note (or note 2? all samsung devices look the same to me) which I could not reflash or even partition but entered in the boot-loader, and the owner told me a few months later that someone fixed it. I don't remember what it had or if he told me at all though.

I don't think it's software. Pretty sure your digitizer is dying. Mine went quickly, yours seems more slow. Over the course of a week mine went from the (entire) screen occasionally glitching for a few seconds or minutes, to permanently showing what's in the pic. In that state the device was unusable except for hard rebooting by long-pressing the power button.

It may not be software, but I just find weird that it appears on screenshots so, If it is hardware indeed then I don't think it can be repaired as the phone I previously mentioned. Just in case I would roll back the phone to Kitkat and give it a try before thinking the worst. The main reason I rolled back to kitkat was graphic and lockscreen glitches that would force me to soft reboot the phone every now and then.
Sometimes I unlock my phone and the screen remains black, then the phone reboots but weirdly it doesn't ask for the SIM pin number. Other times I notice the phone reboots by itself and I notice it because obviously the screen lights up during the boot animation. This happens very rarely, so far it has happened about 3 to 5 times in a couple of months but it's still mega annoying when it happens.
Does it happen only to me? Is there any way to troubleshoot this issue?

If you provide some logs then maybe someone can see what is happening....
Or even basic information, like the configuration and setup of your device.
Right, forgot my configuration. I have an unbranded Z3 on latest Lollipop (but I recall I had a reboot also on Kitkat), no root, no weird apps like task killers or antivirus or anything like that. Sometimes it just does a reboot by itself, but doesn't ask for pin number so it's not a full reboot.
How do I provide logs again?

Factory Reset can solve ur problem /based on personal experience
I did that already less than two months ago and I refuse to believe I have to factory reset this thing every month to get stable operation. Also I'm not even rooted and I haven't messed with the system itself so why would I need to factory reset? Factory reset implies that there is something that has changed and needs to be re-set, and I haven't changed anything special that would require such a drastic solution. Not having done anything special, the issue would come back sooner or later if I don't spot the real cause.
Anyway, in diagnostics I have 21 application incidents for systemUI... Could it be caused by a bugged theme? Does this happen to anyone else?
Today I had two and I had another one last week. A off these were weird half reboots like I described above. I only noticed one because I was at my desk and the phone lighted up for the boot animation.
These reboots show up in diagnostics (phone info menu) as system events. Can you please check out if you have any system events and post here? I want to know if this is a widespread problem. Post here if you have any and also if you have a solution or way to troubleshoot.
Nobody at all? Really?
Hi all, I did a search with no luck, so hopefully this is a valid question!
I have a weird problem with my moto G3 2015 and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind reading about and possibly offering some kind of advice if it's not too much trouble.
Every so often, I'd say at least once a day, the screen becomes unusable until I press the power button a couple of times (to turn the screen off and on again). Even when I do this quick fix, the problem comes back very shortly afterwards. It only goes away after 10 minutes or so, or if I get annoyed and put my phone away. I thought this was a hardware issue but don't believe that now due to the following:
1. It is a different problem depending on the app I am using. In facebook, scrolling is no longer smooth, and doesn't continue scrolling if I flick down the feed. It only scrolls down while my finger is actually on the screen. I am also unable to actually 'click' on anything, only scroll. In Brave (my browser) it acts as if I've just double tapped the screen, as in if I move my finger down it zooms in, and if up then it zooms out. In snapchat when watching a friend's story it acts as if I've held down on the screen in order to forward their snap to somebody else, and then it doesn't respond at all to any touch.
2. The 3 buttons at the bottom are always functional no matter what
3. If the problem begins when I'm in an app, if I go to my home screen, I am able to navigate my home screen and app drawer with no problems. It's as if the problem is contained within the apps.
This started a few months ago while I was running the copy of android that the phone came with. I put on lineage OS (lineage-14.1-20170629-nightly-osprey-signed) and pico gapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170629). This seemed to fix the problem for a while but then it started again a week or so in.
The fact that the problem is only happening while I am in the apps, and disappears when I exit out of them makes me think it can't be a hardware issue? I am also no expert with phones or android, but am somewhat experienced in rooting and playing with settings etc. (I'm not sure if it happens in other apps I'm afraid, I can test if need be next time it happens).
Thanks so much for any help, and please let me know if there is any more info I can give you!
P.s. The new ROM is much better than the old one.! The battery definitely drains faster though, but that's a whole other problem

That is actually typical behavior on older devices using as many social media apps as you're using. Especially Facebook and Messenger if you're also using it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache when this happens?

Thanks for replying!
When I flashed lineage OS I believe I wiped the cache. I will do it again though to see if it helps.

Hi there
If the issue was software related, a change of rom should have solved it.
If the issue is kernel related, all users must face the same issue...but that is still not the case.
So This might be an issue with the screen being old. When the power consumption fluctuates, lcd screens can misbehave.
Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
The issue started after I had it less than a week and I sent in to to Samsung service, who said they couldn't replicate the issue and sent it back. I've had it back for a few weeks and it started happening in other apps as well, not just the Samsung Account that I show here. I've sent them videos confirming the activity in different apps & including the IMEI to prove that it's the same phone that they told me didn't have the issue when they saw it.
I've tried all available display settings options, occurs in all of them. Google said there was a screen issue at launch that was patched out, but none of the videos show this.
Anything to suggest? I'm backing up now and factory resetting to show then that it still happens, since they won't believe me. They said that, if it happens again to document it and send it in for a replacement but, of course, now they don't want to do that replacement thing.
It's always something that appears with something else that would appear underneath. In this video, it's the 2 messages for why you should use your Sammy acct. On other apps, it's the same sort of thing: there are two text or image items that overlap and should replace one another after either a click or a set time frame.
I'm also interested in finding more apps that might do this same thing and could replicate the issue I'm having - or not replicate it - for more evidence to send more videos, enough apps that they can't ignore me.
Stock Chinese ROM since I'm in China and I like to make sure any phone I use doesn't have problems before I flash a new ROM and have issues on a warranty claim.
Thanks in advance

That worked, but does this mean I have to always have developer options turned off?
I don't use them often, so it's not a big deal.
Yeah I have kept it off permanently and no flashing after that. This is the first phone i have used with Developer Options set to off. In all my previous phones I always disabled the animations.
I hadn't even enabled Developer Mode. I usually don't need Developer Mode any more, except when I want to flash a ROM.
