how to root 4.4? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Just wondering if there is a root for 4.4 for the Verizon ultra xt1080

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53964982
Unfortunately, this doesn't work if you've upgraded to 4.4.4 (the latest ota).

Well I did not do the OTA 4.4.4
According to the About screen, I am currently on 4.4
So those instructions should work for me?

Yup!
And If you're still on 19.5.3, you don't even have to do step one

Looks like it all worked. I installed safestrap as well 3.65 version. Not sure where to get custom Roms to use with safestrap on my xt1080.
Please let me know

[Q] Rooted S3 Updating?

Hello i have a i535 Galaxy s3, with 4.1.1 jelly bean, and i want to update to 4.1.2 right now but it doesn't allow OTA updates right now, i have clockwork recovery mod installed and i am rooted right now, could anyone help me guide how to update to 4.1.2? also would i lose all my apps/settings/data?
Also i did try updating from samsung Kies but it said it did not support a update. but i did manage to backup my data/settings from samsung kies.
Sorry im kinda a noob with this stuff, i'd need a full guide to updating if that's possible, i rooted it myself by following a youtube video and it has worked well since.
Thanks
You can't update because you are rooted.

so what can i do so i have the latest jelly bean?
You can flash the ota in the bonus files section of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
If that doesn't work, you will need to Odin back to pure 4.1.1 stock then take the official ota that way

If you are looking for the latest JB, and you're rooted, why not install a 4.2.2? There are tons of awesome ROM's out there.

i'm just not very educated in flashing roms and such, but if theres a good guide for a 4.2.2 update i'd be happy to go to that. But id like to keep my applications/data somehow (i have backed them up on samsung kies and i've learned how to make a full backup on clockwork recovery) i'd just rather not re-download all my applications.

There is no 4.2 update released for this phone yet. What Mr. CJ meant was that there are AOSP 4.2.2 ROMs out. The Android OS is currently on version 4.2.2 but not every smartphone has it officially.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 - I was on Gummy-M1.2-03-10-14-NIGHTLY-d2lte with pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140207-signed.
I was on I upgraded the other day by flashing:
Furnace kernel 1.0.8-aosp_m8
Gummy-M2.3-07-15-14-NIGHTLY-d2lte
pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140608-signed
Only then did I find out that my 64GB external SD card is read-only and basically worthless in Android V4.4.4, (thanks a BUNCH, Google!!) (NOT!).
What is preventing people from being successful in downgrading back to 4.4.2? If re-flashing the old stuff isn't a good answer, do you know if a simple restore of my Nandroid backup would take it back?
What a pain!
Thanks!
i would like to know this aswel ,is it possible to go back to 4.4.2 from 4.4.4 ?

Finally i was also able to downgrade to 4.4.2. Always when i tried to flash 4.4.2 as usual via fastboot i got stuck at the Bootloader unlocked Screen. Magically after flashing CM i was finanly able to downgrade to a working 4.4.2. Do not really know what happend and if it is somehow related. I'll try to reproduce it later..
I was able to downgrade from stock 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 but not any lower.

I'm not sure if it works if you're stock, but I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219 I flashed the Retail UK 4.4.2 with about 2300 downloads.

[Q] Which stock firmware should I install?

Hi all,
I have rooted my Moto G and I installed Cyanogenmod 11 on it.
Cyanogenmod hasn't made Snapshot builds since M6.
M6 is getting old. I could install the latest nightly, but last time I installed a nightly version I couldn't play Soundcloud and other music related apps.
So I want to go back to Stock 4.4.4
I've got 2 questions:
1) Where can I download the stock firmware? I have already searched at http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 , but I can't find the latest 4.4.4 update. (at least not for my region, which is The Netherlands)
2) There are plenty of firmwares. Before I installed Cyanogenmod, Stock 4.4.2 176.44.1.falcon_umts.EURetail.en.EU (no specific carrier) was preinstalled on the device. Now I would like to install Android 4.4.2 KOT49H.M004 (no specific carrier) which is smaller than the preinstalled one. But is it safe to do that?
Thanks in advance!
Did you ever update your phone to 4.4.4 on stock via OTA?

What's your bootloader version? If it's 41.13 you can install the GPE 4.4.4 firmware, pure android from google, or the European version again, if you want the Motorola features (MotoCamera, MotoGallery, Radio FM, MotoAssist, SMS Messaging (AOSP), Keyboard (AOSP), MotoCare, MotoMigrate). I like the GPE, I miss just a little the HDR mode of the MotoCamera. GPE also consumes less ram.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I found out that I have bootloader version 41.13. I would like to convert my moto g to Google Play Edition. Is it safe to install KOT49H (4.4.2, which has a lower bootloader version)? I can't find the file for GPE 4.4.4.

Yes, I updated from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 via OTA on stock ROM. I had installed a custom recovery at that moment. I was afraid it would go wrong, but the recovery successfully installed 4.4.4.

If you updated to 4.4.4 via OTA you running the v41.13, it's shown in the fastboot main page (the one you get when you press vol down + power button). There you go:
GPE 4.4.4
If you have XT1032 will work for sure, I never tested it on other models.:good:

You're welcome I hope you like your GPE Moto G as I like it. It's a very light firmware, on my device the battery consumption in airplane mode is only 3℅ per night and the average ram usage is like 450-500 MB. Also I never got lag during the usage... And you get updates 1 month before the others. Enjoy it
This thread answers the questions I've been wondering about for the longest while but one problem, my bootloader is 41.11 (XT 1032 US Global version on 4.4.3) and my worries is if I update to 4.4.4 GPE and want to switch back to stock 4.4.3, I would not be able to. Currently running 4.4.2 GPE on the 41.11 (stock 4.4.3) bootloader. Everything works well, just can't change bootloader, obviously.

I flashed 4.4.4 GPE then 4.4.4 brazil, then 4.4.3 brazil, then 4.4.2 brazil, then 4.4.2 GPE... in this precise order. You can flash whatever you want The only thing you can't downgrade is the bootloader.

The firmwares for 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 GPE does not have in the emmc but the OTA does. As I said above, someone is looking to buy the phone, so I would leave it as is. Plan to get to get the dual sim version.

No I don't believe you can ota because if a different boot loader version...you can flash the European union firmware...

You shouldn't be flashing ROM's which require the 4.4 bootloader, you should only be flashing ROM's for the JBBL or JellyBean Bootloader, a bit of a misnomer but it just represents when the bootloader was released.
Motorola updated some of the msm8960's (Razr HD, Razr M and I think Atrix HD now too) but our Photon Q never saw any official update to 4.4 - so we do not have a 4.4 bootloader, and it looks like we never will.
Hence the need for the moto_msm8960_jbbl moniker/device.

[Q] Noob question roms

I just want to get this straight before I do anything rash. In order to install a custom rom ie MOAR on my sm-900p if the rom says 5.0.2 does my android version have to be the same or can it be 5.0 and still work without bricking? Along these same lines, is it possible to downgrade to 4.4.4 via the stock room and will there be any issues? I have also read about leaked stuff like I am running 5.0 and if I wanted to somehow get a leaked 5.0.2 rom how does this work?
Thanks in advance.

If you want to install MOAR, check the MOAR FAQ and it should answer all you questions. Post#2 is a step by step on installing. Recommend you stay away from leaked versions until you're more comfortable about how to get out of a problem. MOAR 6.0 is based on the official Lollipop release. If you have any MOAR questions after you've read the instructions, feel free to post on that thread.
