[Q] Root on Video? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, it`s my first post here. I tried different ways rooting but always ends in fastboot mode and a long wait but to no avail. I was able to without any problems rooting other phones but with this I can not. Can someone put a video step by step how to do it? It would be very helpful not only for me. Thanking you in advance.

I don't think there are any videos and that its not really necessary. Follow the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 here.
If you have any questions or whatever, ask here and I'll answer and help you out until you obtained root I'll be refreshing the page if you're still around.

[Q] A little help to boost please

Hi there.
I very rarely need to post on forums to ask for help but in this instance i would like a little help before i proceed.
I have unlocked bootloader, and rooted my phone but im stuck on the next two steps i would like to proceed with.
Before hitting me with the old "use the search button" i have been through many pages and i am genuinly stuck. So please genuine help only.
The two steps i would like help with are the following.
1: Installing a custom rom. How is this method performed? Do i download rom and put it on memory card and install from Clockwork or do i need to do a bit more reading and install from fastboot?
2: I would like to install a modded kernal as well. Is this done through Clockwork or fastboot and does it require installing in a specific order i.e. rom first kernal second.
All help would be appreciated.
The available guides out there are not bad (and very appreciated), but i feel leave a few holes that I have ask for help for in the above for the modest rom flasher, Hopefully the answers to these questions could help others with simalar need.
Kind regards
Alex.

You are in the wrong forum section. To answer you questions:
1. Download rom and put it on memory card and install from Clockwork
2. Fastboot
No specific order, but I usually install the ROM first and then the kernel.

Lol if you searched you would've seen the stickies in the forum you posted your question in, which is the wrong forum!
1. Backup, wipe, flash ROM.
2. Reboot to fastboot then flash it using one of the many guides in this forum if you really searched.
Please post in the appropriate forums, the Dev section is NOT for asking questions or for support.

X8 rooting problem

Hello everyone. As the title says I have rooting problem on my X8 device.
My x8 was already rooted before and i had had custom rom on it.
Few days back I wanted to put another rom, while doing that X8 got bricked.
I fixed it via PC Companion and everything is alright until i try to root it.
(Following links are in text form, I just made this account and can't make links jet.)
SuperOneClick:
When I click root, first error I get is this:
i.imgur.com/JjY36qY.png
After clicking Yes I get new window popping up saying.
Unknown error(0xe00022b) (last 3 latters change every time i try)
I click OK and it starts rooting. After few sec, it freezes like this:
i.imgur.com/b9vQD3X.png
All I get here is text on right blinking every few seconds.
x8toolbox:
Realizing that this won't work i tried via x8toolbox
There i get error:
i.imgur.com/poydVDJ.png
(Image is low qualtiy, but that is maximum I can get from that program.)
I don't know what to do. I was searching forums for days in hope to resolve my problem and had no luck.
Please, if anyone know anything about this problem I would appreciate your help.
Thank you in advance.

ROM Help

I have rooted my n8013, but every time I try to install a rom it "freezes". I purchased ROM Manager, but whenever I check the download roms there is on a small section with nightlies...I thought for $6 I would get a list of all available roms...was I wrong?
I did download Android Revolution 9.0 and CM 10.2, I added them to my tablet, I disconnected the tablet from the PC. I then booted to recovery with ROM Manager. I managed to get Android Revolution to the point of installing google apps, but it froze, I couldn't click anything or do anything. I tried to redownload and reinstall it on the tablet but it just freezes at random points in the installation.
I have tried to install CM 10.2...twice and both times it just sits at CyanogenMod loop (Blue circle with 2 spinning "wheels" going in opposite directions). I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but this is the hardest time I have ever had rooting & installing a rom. I am no pro and I don't understand all of the lingo, could someone please either help me, or point me to a step by step guide?
Thanks!

I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIYiXzcW7xs
I then followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677 for the recovery.
Now I have actually managed to get CM 10.2 to work, but I cannot figure out the Gapps. I downloaded them to my pc and tried to put them on the tablet but there is no program that can open them (or so the tablet says). I could go poking around, but I don't want to break anything so I figured I would just wait for a response.
I was actually debating on doing a complete wipe and starting back at square 1. Then following this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 But that just seems like to much work, I have a feeling I am very close to being done and I and want to start all over.
I wanted to get Revolution to work but it wants to fight with me so whatever.

Did you read the special notes in the Revolution HD rom site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547 In the you need section it says that you need the Custom recovery by "High On Android" Then there is a section on the same page that tells you how to flash. You need to follow the directions exactly.
Don't know if you know this but the directions on the 1st video put the CWM recovery on the tablet and then when you did the 2nd video you over wrote that CWM recovery that Revolution HD is compatible with and the one you installed is not recommended by Revolution HD.
I had Revolution HD on when I was rooted and I liked it....... If it were me...... I would return to factory rom........ then follow the exact directions in the first video........
Then follow the directions on the Revolution HD site link I sent you.
Curious......... why are you rooting? What do you want that factory rom does not have?

The reason I want to root is because..well..I want to learn. I cannot learn just by reading, I have to do hands on..I have to actually try it before I can learn it. I am so fascinated by tablets and android that I could sit here tinker and poking around for hours. Another reason I want to root is because I have read that rooting can improve battery life, and that samsungs touch wiz is "buggy". I have noticed that at times things don't seem to work as they should be (buggy, glitchy, choppy).
I was unaware that I flashed over cwm. How do I return it to factory rom and start all over?
Thanks for the help btw, I really appreciate it.

I followed his guide on how to unroot. I made it to step 9 before it said that it had failed. Once I tried to reboot the tablet it said
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I downloaded Kies but it wouldn't connect to the tablet.
I did find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311507
I am stopping before I break it even further. Any advice?

Big big problem with that is you are far more likely to end up with a brick .
As the posts shows you are not hands on as you have failed to read the instructions and have to resort to asking users to tell you what those instructions you failed to read are .
Rooting cannot improve battery life .

What firmware number did you download and what country do you reside.
Are you using an official Samsung data charging cable and did you purchase the tablet new?
Are you using a usb extension cable?
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
When you plug the tablet into your computer is it recognized?

First, from my research that was just a Soft Brick..so not a big big problem.
Second hands on means you learn as you go..I am learning as I go, trial and error. Some people learn better by reading, some people learn better by doing. I am the one who learns better by doing. I have rooted a few other tablets with zero issues. I managed to figure out what was wrong BY MY SELF....trial and error. So your statement about me having to resort to asking users to tell me what those instructions are, I followed the instructions on how to unroot...they are what caused me to soft brick.
According to Mike1986 at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
In the ROM Details, it says Excellent Battery Life.
According to http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-omega-rom-on-galaxy-note-10-1-gt-n8000n8010n8013/
As for the battery life, it is far better that what you get with stock ROM on your Note 10.1.

I managed to figure out what the problem was. The firmware link that is posted by Max is for the galaxy note 2. I am not sure if thats just old or what. I went to samfirmware and I downloaded one and I reset the tablet to factory setting.
First I want to thank you kkretch for all of your help, I am a amateur, learning what all the lingo means. I am not sure if the other poster just knew everything about tablets without having problems or not. But I know that I have had no issues except this time..no biggie just learning is all (imo).
I did want to ask you. Beings I am unrooted can I follow this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 or should I follow Max's tutorial on how to root and then follow this guide?
Again, thank you.

There is a bad link in the printed directions but you should always go directly to samfirmware for the latest firmware updates.
I hope you know that you nearly bricked your device, it is a must to read and follow directions that are posted exactly.
I hope you know that CM 10.2 will take away S-Pen function.
Max has ROM reviews on his site for most of the popular ones.
As your just starting I would stick with videos that show you how to install roms for your specific device. And if you choose to root again after you do so the next step would be to do a full backup in CWM recovery to a microsd card so if you run into problems you can always restore back to that point.
Good luck

I was actually looking at some of those roms, and I checked through Max's videos, he did reviews of them but doesn't show how to install them. This is where I got confused. I would love to find a tutorial that goes step by step through it. I also did have CM 10.2 on the tablet, I was still able to use the pen. Which is all I really want, I bought the note 10.1 for the specs (2gb of ram). As for the pen, I pretty much just use it for drawing and for selecting small fonts and links.
The 2nd video I posted seems very easy, I just don't know if I need to follow Max's root first, or if I can just follow the 2nd video from start to finish. I am thinking that I need to root again, and then follow the 2nd video.
Do you have a rom that you recommend? and a video tutorial that I should follow?

You are on your own....... I'm not making any recommendations. I have rooted and unrooted many times but I keep going back to stock and that is were I'm staying. lately I have seen a bunch of post like yours with rooting problem and bricking or soft bricking.
If you still want to install a custom ROM your better off going to each roms page under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development and read up on them.
Good luck.

That is the reason I do not use toolkits. Always learn the hard way first. If somebody doesn't explain in the next few hours, I'll explain later.

Recover data after manually update to Andoid 6

Hi all!
So I downloaded Android 6 from Googles site and manually updated and of course the phone was wiped! And today I remembered I had a lot of photos from our vacation and of the kids (when my youngest was born etc) and whatnot that got lost as well Is there any way to recover these? I've tried looking for guides on here, but the ones i found that were kind of relevant are old ones and links to files that was needed is dead.
If it is possible, could anyone please point me to a good guide and tools needed? I'm really hoping this works. I screwed up
Thanks in advance!

try this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
i never recovered data so i can't help you any further with that process so if you have any Qs ask them in that thread so proper people can help you
btw it's not easy process it's very advance process and require step by step implementation so follow that guide properly ( it requires rooted phone and basic knowledge of rooting..and as Marshmallow is new rooting process is not that easy..you can find how to root Marshmallow in general section)
& in future always take full backup before you change anything manually
Thank you very much! Appreciate it!
I was gonna root it, but thought it was like before so I did the chainfire auto-root without reading. Thought I had bricked it. First it got stuck on the boot screen for a couple of hours, then after I got it off, it wouldn't turn back on. But after a while i finally got it in recovery mode and flashed again. Let me take a look at this new method.
I'm pretty good at following directions, so hopefully I'll be good this time around
Thanks for a point in the right direction. I'll ask over there if I get any issues.
