Boot
Hey I'm trying to make a boot.img dump myself. Did you find out if you dumped the right mount point? I downloaded Partition Table from the play store and it shows all the mount points but I'm not sure which one is the boot. It doesn't actually specify a boot partition and if i go into the /dev/block/platform/soc,2/by-name folder it doesn't have a boot file in there or an aboot file. So I'm confused.
ubuntu is the solution

Hey,
I can't help you with that using a phone.
I have done this multiple times using Ubuntu.
PHP:
sudo apt-get install abootimg
sudo abootimg -x boot.img
mkdir workspace
cd workspace
gzip -cd initrd.img | cpio -i
I could upload the dump, too !?

Here are some instructions to create the splash:
You have to use a 320x240 BMP and Pof’s nbimg with this command:
for Dash 3G
nbimg -p 108512 -t 255 -w 320 -h 240 -F splash.bmp -T 0x600 –S 64 -D MAPL*****
for Ozone:
nbimg -p 108512 -t 255 -w 320 -h 240 -F splash.bmp -T 0x600 –S 64 -D CEDA*****
Thanks oOkBa for checking this out
Here is one I created for the Ozone.

What he said...
This is all fine and dandy, but on the Ozone I can't find the OEM .nb files.
I found 2 .nb0 files in the \Windows folder.
I copied them to computer, renamed them and ran the utility.
Neither are te HTC splash screen.
To update the splash, your device needs to be unlocked by using jockyw's hardspl for your device.
Next download Ozone-splash.zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4381312&postcount=24
Replace the splash.nbh file extracted from the zip with your custom image, then run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the same directory as your updated splash.nbh to flash at your own rick of course
I did this on my Ozone with out any problems. Can not confirm this will work on other devices.

Hello everyone,
I'd like to pay back the community that have been helping me with my cellphone, and also helped me learn a lot on how to help myself.. so i decided to give back.. i have been customizing GB and for my own personal use, now i am trying to customize ICS port by xbsall. the only problem i have is packing the rom in a flashable zip. I searched everywhere with no success all i need is how to pack the system and data to .img file.
I'd appreciate the help and i will be posting my custom rom the forums soon.
Special thanks to xbsall, defcomg, and everyone working on making the ICS possible on the O3D.
You can try this out:
ROM Factory v1.7.1[May/12/2012]
Although P920 isn't on the "Supported Devices" list...
or this:
[KITCHEN] Android Kitchen, v0.214 [Linux / Mac / Windows]
Just be careful.

Lets suppose you have made the changes to your system the way you like it. (add/remove apps , etc)
Now in order to make your system.img
boot into cwm/twrp
connect to pc
use the following command to make the img file
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/emmc/system.img
wait until it ends
your system.img is ready and packed into your emmc
make sure your emmc has plenty of space to fit it
now you can make a zip file with it and use the command
package_extract_file("system.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p7");
in your updater script to unpack
happy cooking
_____________________________________________________
the cmd output should look like this
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
~ # cd dev
cd dev
/dev # cd block
cd block
/dev/block # dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/emmc/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/emmc/system.img
1445274+0 records in
1445274+0 records out
739980288 bytes (705.7MB) copied, 126.201996 seconds, 5.6MB/s
/dev/block #reboot
Thank you very much xbsall. That worked perfectly.
Do you know can i create data.img also? most of my customization is in the data. I'd really appreciate it.
What block is it in?
Thanks for the great work.

Awesome! thanks iodak, xbsall, defcomg and TMProduct1onZ.. I really appreciate the help.
xbsall with dsixda's kitchen would there have to be a new edify_defs created for SU760 if using your XBSA404 port? The reason I am asking is I am getting an error Status 0 when creating a ROM in the kitchen. I think this may be due to the device being ro.product.device=SU760 in build.prop but not having an edify_defs for the SU760? any help appreciated.
Status 0 might be two things: 1) You used an update-script (Amend format, which is very old) when you should be using an updater-script (Edify format), or the other way around; OR 2) Your updater-script is using the "MTD" partition type when mounting a partition rather than another type such as EMMC (and thus, you need the device defined under the kitchen's /tools/edify_defs folder).
Havent used dsixda kitchen for a long long long... long time.
So i cant help you with it.
Tell me what you wanna do to your ROM.

Just trying to start with a basic platform by de-odexing and zip alligning and build on it from there
dsixda's kitchen seemed like the easiest method and i've managed with some degree of success but required the update binary from other peoples ROM's which I would rather not do.
Lol just adb pull/push them..

lol thats fine but i'd rather have a flashable zip without having to use others update binary and modified updater script :victory:

BTW that looks tremendous is it ROM: XBSA V3b ICS ROM for Optimus3D P920 with ACiD Audio?

Hello Guys,
@android.zealot.fervor wanted me to post this guide so why not
There is already a guide by Panda00 but that one is a bit outdated...
Requirments:
- A Windows PC
- Zip opener (7zip,winrar,winzip)
- Dsixda's kitchen and cygwin
- sgs2ext4.jar
- linux reader
- A Brain and hands
So let's begin:
Step 1)
- Download the stock firmware from sammobile samsung-updates search for yourself and open the file with 7zip inside the file you will find a md5 file open that with 7zip it should give you a error ignore that! Take out the system.img and open up sgs2ext4.jar and drop the system.img into there now after some time the system.img.ext4 will be placed onto your desktop!
Step 2)
- Open up Linux Reader and mount the system.img.ext4 drive open it up and take out only the app and framework folder save them to your desktop!
Step 3)
- Now make a WORKING_DEODEX folder name it exact as i say you and make inside that folder a system folder! drop the app&framework folder in the system folder and copy WORKING_DEODEX to C:/kitchen or where ever you have kitchen on your PC!
Step 4)
- Open up kitchen with cygwin by typing in the following:
cd C:/kitchen and hit Enter! (I take the C drive as example but your drive letter could be diffrent!!!)
sh menu Hit Enter again!
Now it should load up kitchen if not do not ask me!
go in kitchen to advanced options by typing in 0 and after that go to 11 now select the correct api version it should be 17!
Now type in b for deodexing both folders! let kitchen do his work here this can take up to 20min!!!
Step 5)
When kitchen is done go back to your C:/kitchen drive and take out the system folder of the WORKING_DEODEX and drop it onto your desktop!
What you need to do now is download the zip file from the attachments and drop the system folder in it!
Step 6)
Copy the zip to your device and flash enjoy your deodexed phone!
Credits:
Panda00 for his zip file
CoolDevelopment for his CWM
Some things you need to know:
1) secemail_j will not deodex!!!
2) you must be on the firmware you are deodexing!
3) Install custom recovery for flashing

Thanks.....well i already fixed the update-script and it worked.
Thanks once again for your efforts.
OK first thing first IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE OR DECIDE TO BE CARELESS OR CREATE A CYCLONE... you know the drill.
Well i stumbled on this by mistake and hey it works!!!!
Some of us do get bored with seeing the same thing over and over again specailly if u keep switching on and off your phone for whatever reason...
we can change boot animations thats popular but now we can the splash screen and by splash screen i mean boot logo and by bootlogo i mean that image that show "Samsung Galaxy **** powered by android"
Samsung stores its boot files in Param Partition but extracting those images is a hustle well now you dont have to... Here's How and its easy...
I dont know if it will work for any other device with a param partition but i am using Samsungs
YOU WILL NEED:
- A rooted device (Samsung)
- Terminal emulator or ADB (I used ADB but still i was at adb shell)
- Being able to check your partition (But ill explain how anyway)
HOW TO
CHECKING PARTITION BLOCK
1.a First check which block is your Param partition
use and root browsing app and goto /dev/platform/****/by-name
where i used *** is where things differ... there are usually two folder and one will have a folder named "by-name"...
take note of the full path to by-name
E.g in my j7 its: /dev/block/platform/13540000.dwmmc0/by-name
1.b In ADB type "adb shell"
now in Terminal or Continue in ADB
- run "ls -l /dev/block/platform/****/by-name"
- It will output all your block partition with their names
- Take the name of your mmcblk*** and mine is mmcblk0p9
NOTE : BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL PARAM PARTITION
In Terminal or adb shell:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk*** of=/data/media/0/param.fls
or dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk*** of=/storage/extSdCard/param.fls
-------- on of="Location to your sdcard (ext or int)" Dont use linked storages
Getting another device's Param file (The Boot logo you want)
Backup its PARAM partition by doing The steps above (Get block partition name and extract)
CHANGING YOUR BOOTLOGO[/COLOR]
-Copy the param.fls file you backed up to your device and note the location you put it (Dont overwrite your original)
In Terminal or adb shell
$ su
# dd if=location_param_file_you_copied/param.fls of=your_dev_block_partition
e.g
# dd if=/data/media/0/copied/param.fls of=/dev/block/mmcblk***
to restore your original change your bootlogo by your original Param.fls
image

NOTICE's
PRO's
- You can change bootscreen to any other samsung you wish
-it will also change recovery and download mode images ... i think
CON's
- Dont know what else the param partition is for.... e.g dont know the side effects
---------- have you had any on your phone????
******** NO, i havent
- PARAM is a partition, it has a size... your stock param size is your partition size...
E.G Param from j7 is 8MB and that from Tab3 is 2MB... meaning Tab 3 param can fit and work in j7 but j7 param cannot work in Tab3
- Screen Size matters... if a bootlogo is too big for your screen itll will be small etc in order to fit
What if i wanna modify the image???
i managed to do this...
1. Create an empty archieve and put in in your phone
In Terminal or adb shell:
$ su
# dd if=/data/media/0/param.fls of=/data/media/0/archieve.zip
after this, all the images will be on the zip... N.B not in... On the zip
you can view them in the zip and extract them but you cannot add files to the archieve thats the problem...
7z says ... There are files at end of archieve (Not quite sure but something like that):
so thats where you guys and devs come in... making that zip addable...
if you extract the zip and compress it again... its size drops and if you flash it... it removes the boot image.

STARTING PORT
Porting Boot Image
Download Android Image Kitchen for Windows
For Other visit here [url]https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073775[/URL]
Extract it in Desktop and Now put your boot.img inside that folder and run unpacking.exe (simply double click it)
This will extract your boot image
for Example i use linux version of AIK in "LINUX MINT" but process is same as windows .
Now run Unpackimg.sh
you can see in terminal it extract boot.img
there is two folder inside AIK ramdisk and split_img
Just delete ramdisk folder and go inside split_img folder
and copy boot.img.dtb and boot.img-zImage files to AIK main directoey or somewhere else
Now replace your stock boot.img with Port ROM boot.img in AIK tool folder and again run unpackimg.sh. this will create same two folders ramdisk and split_img . in AIK directory
Now replace those two files you copied before from stock boot.img split folder "boot.img.dtb and boot.img-zImage" to new port split_image folder.
Run repacking
This is your new Boot image , rename it to boot.img
Also try replacing lib folder from stock to port ramdisk
Use Winmerge or Meld for comparing .rc files from stock to port ramdisk and add those missing line in port .rc files. like comparing fstab etc
