[Q] WhatsApp notifications occur with delay of several hours - General Questions and Answers

Sometimes I find that WhatsApp messages only appear when I manually open the app. Literally hours after the messages were sent. This is on a custom CyanogenMod 11.0 M8. Is there a way to fix this?

do you have any battery saving apps installed, like greenify, or juice defender?
if so, it is possible they are killing the notifications. i know greenify kills my xda notifications. im sure i could allow it through, but it doesnt bother me.
there may be other possibilities for your issue, but thats all i can think of.
hope that helps!

if sync is turned off in the settings, you only get notifications when manually opening.

I'm familiar with Greenify, but it isn't installed so that shouldn't be the problem.

Sync? Which setting is that exactly?

Just pull down the notification bar, find the "sync" toggle, press it and you should be fine.
Or, you can go into the gmail app, and it should show something like "auto-sync is turned off, presd to turn on for all apps". Im not too familiar with cm11, so those are tge only options I can think of.there.migjt be others, if u need search gopgle for "cm11 how to turn on sync'
Hope I helped!

You mean the sync for WhatsApp? It's turned on, though it only lists "Accounts" and Google syncs the calendar pretty well. Oh well I'll have to keep playing with it.

Might be any task killing app.. if not it can be your data connection.. if not even that.. maybe autosync is on...
if your notifications are delayed.. something is stopping the app maybe..
try to make a backup and reinstall the app..
btw have you tried whatrsapp plus??

Possible Solution For Notifications

I think that the notifications that don't appear when screen off is caused by the restricted background data that lenovo has pre-checked. Just untick the option shown in the picture to allow background data for the application you want. Tell me if this will work for you

Also turn off battery optimization for this app.
Settings->power management->battery optimization and then choose all apps instead of not optimized, find the app you want and disable battery optimization

I have done this also :crying:. Upon re-opening Messenger while on data, it shows 'Waiting for Network' then 'Connected' and all the notifications come through. Ive also tried disabling Doze to no avail. Notifications work fine when on Wifi so not sure what the problem is, looks like a software design problem made by Lenovo. I might try Lineage in the future.
I find that when I return home and phone gets WiFi while pulling in drive I suddenly get Gmail notifications so seems mine is same.
The only way to fix notifications I've found that actually works is to disable doze via adb shell.
Sadly this fix needs to be reapplied every time you restart the phone making it a bandaid for a gunshot wound.
It feels like the OnePlus 3 all over again...
Install this app...
This app should work very well...

Not receiving push notifications for messenger and other apps

For a few week I've not been receiving push notifications for Messenger and a couple of other apps, I've tried clearing cache, reinstalling, upgraded to beta firmware, factory reset to normal firmware, checked every power saving and notification settings I can find and I'm getting no where. I have avast and malwarebytes installed but have tried 24 hours without them.
I've noticed if I wake the phone and see the icon in the edge panel or from the app tray the app seems to wake and sometimes pushes through notifications. Very frustrating!
Anyone got any ideas?

Check the notification setting inside the apps
& check which apps can read and control your notifications in Notifications Access Setting

I have the exact same problem and none of these settings helped me. Do you think that it is an app-related problem?

In order to get app notifications , you must give app permissions to auto start. Otherwise you only will get notifications when app running .

I found that in notifications access setting, 'notification' was disabled, I've allowed this and will see how I get on tomorrow.
Today I had 50 outlook email notifications come through all at once... Phone blew up like Beyonce!
It's crazy this is happening, really puts me off the S8 plus.
Thanks for the help

Where can I find the auto start settings? Google is not fruitful on this one
Cheers!
Still not getting notifications for messenger. Does anyone know where the setting to allow messenger to auto start is.
I'm convinced it's some sort of aggressive power management feature.

Check the screen shots .
If didn't understand then reinstall the app and give all access include auto run tick when system ask.

I found the area where permissions are granted. Settings>Apps> {Appname}> scroll down to "Permissions" > tap the three dots at top right corner> tap "All permissions". This gets me to an area where it shows all of the available permissions to assign the this app. I do not see an "autostart" or anything similar.

Notifications issue?

Hi there
I have a question for the international users of the Magic 2. I have not yet owned a Honor device but had several Huawei Mate devices in the past. The ones which I had from China always had the issue with delayed/not syncing notifications, for example Whatsapp etc. It only got better with the international firmware on it.
Does the Magic 2 also have this issue, seeing it only comes with Chinese Firmware?
Thanks very much!
I have the HM2 and I haven't experienced any issues with notifications, using Whatsapp, Telegram or whatever.

I have had a different experience unfortunately. Some apps only seem to sync and receive new notifications when I open them.
I've tried adding the problematic apps to "unrestricted data access" (despite it saying this should not effect notifications) to no avail.
Hope someone else has a solution!

That's exactly what I was afraid of, I also know this from my previous Huawei Mates.. well I have placed the order now already for it.. so I guess I will have to see.
Go to settings->apps->apps->WhatsApp(for example)->power usage details->app launch.
Change to manual and enable all. I think you can then switch it back to automatic.

These problems usually originate with power consumption settings and launch settings, if you let it run in the background and launch itself, it should work perfectly.
In any way I use Whatsapp regularly and it seems working fine with the default settings I had when installed.

And this
Most people that are having issues with notifications are totally unaware of the the aggressive battery saver on Huawei devices. You need to manually allow apps to run in the background and not be killed by the battery saver. Unfortunately the settings are but hidden and some time there are more than one option to were to do so.

Notifications problems...

Hi guys,
I don't know if it's Oreo or the Nubia X, but a lot of apps don't show me notifications : Messenger, Snapchat, Candy Crush, TypeMail...
My clock app doesn't ring, and I have a message when I open it after (app forced close).
All those apps has been manually optimised in the battery settings.
An idea ?
I have problems with that too. And my apps always fall asleep, even my phone app, which means when people call me, I don't get the phone calls unless I turn on my phone and suddenly my missed calls and messages show up.
For my WhatsApp, Gmail and Yahoo Mail, even worse. I literally have to open those apps to check if I got new messages or emails.
Go to app info/permission/notifications and enable one by one all notifications you need.

Same thing happens to me. Authorized all the notifications, even set them to urgent. Still no luck
it's not enough guys. You have to go in apps info, permission managment and also power management and give permission to everything.
Go also in accessibility /downloaded services and activate the launcher to ON.
At the end, as for mine, all notifications will work.
Hello,
I have the same issue I rooted my phone its v2.19. Notifications work for 10 mints if I have the app running in the background, apps like gmail and YouTube crash after sometime of use.
I allowed all notifications and permissions and power management, it seems like its only the apps that rely on google play services.
I am not sure if this is a common issue...
I have noticed that some notifications will not come through unless wifi is connected, but after some time of having the screen off, notifications stop working. My email notifications will not come through or show on my lockscreen unless my wifi connection is active, regardless of whether or not my data is turned on.

In my case, all of them. WhatsApp, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, even regular messaging app.

Am I the only one with notifications issues?

Since I've had my phone, some notifications just don't come through no matter what I do. WhatsApp will not work unless I wake up my screen and my calender reminders never work unless I happen to be on my phone.
All permissions granted, battery optimization turned off, auto start enabled and no restrictions on these apps. Quite annoying.
Does anyone know how to sort this?
LOL this has to be the funniest post I've ever seen here. Like 25% of posts and comments on mi 10 ultra forums are about notification issues bud. Did you even attempt to search?

Are you on stock Chinese by any chance? Switch to the EU ROM, this will resolve your issue easier than it is to explain every setting needed for some notifications to fully work. Took me ages but I did do it. Then I went EU, no issues, worked straight away.

Definitely try the EU ROM. It has its own problems but it's better than the stock.

It is very strange, because WhatsApp is one of the apps whose notifications seems to be reliable.
Gmail is one that I am not 100% sure about. But I feel it is somehow related to the way gmail handle its notification, since I experience similar behaviour on other phones.
Teams and Outlook are 100% notifications rate for me.
Possibly I have set something else in MIUI settings, I have to check everything.
