[Q] TWRP Carbon nightlyflash fail using install of zip - - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Flash of Carbon KK nightly d2lte ROM fails on my VZW (SCH-535) Samsung III using TWRP zip install function. I have tried two nightlies (July 4 and July 13) Any suggestions to get the flash to succeed? I do a clean wipe before proceeding.
I have been using Carbon R 1.8. Is that the last stable release under Android JB 4.2.2 for VZW Galaxy S3?
Does CWM have a better success at processing the zip file contents?

Coming from an older base you need to format system and factory reset according to Carbon's FAQ page. You should also make sure that your recovery is up to date. I'm using Philzs latest touch recovery and updated to latest Carbon KK fro a TW rom without a hitch. Good luck.

TWRP rom flash fails
Thank you.. I am more of a Noob than I realize. I thought I was following the Carbon FAQ - Now I see the 'default' format and factory reset in TWRP does not include system wipe. If I use advance option and select system, data, cache and dalvik cache then subsequent install is successful. KK Carbon is quite impressive! Very responsive.
This closes my inquiry. Thank you.

[Q] Flashing JB ROMs to Tab Plus P6200

Hi all,
i managed to flash my P6200, i've tried
CyanogenMod 10 by aorth (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842090)
I'm using CWM v5 (and now 6), and now i'm stuck with the bootloop (boot unfinished restarted around 5 times or so then it successfully goes into cyanogenmod logo screen and stuck forever), i've tried to rewipe and install the mod and also redownload the mod, it doesn't work at all
i also looked at:
Paranoid Android v2.5 by Androguide.fr (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941615) got the new download link but also stuck in bootloop
is there any available download links or so?
EDIT:
now i'm using CWM 6 and still got bootload any help?
I haven't tried to flash Cyano, but I know the only safe CWM should be 6.0.1.0

okay i gave then i'll try it with CWM 6
tried with CWM 6 and still not working... is there any advance setting that i'm missing?
Here's what i do:
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. install ROM
5. install Gapps
6. Reboot
There's mount and storage setting that i don't quite understand, is there something to do with it?
UPDATE: I Finally solved it...
I installed stock ICS from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777303&highlight=stock
with Odin (having bad luck with crashing / not detecting Heimdall :crying
It finally boot...!!! and i got ICS..!!! well, i don't stop, next:
Reinstall CWM 6, Backup, Wipe-wipe-wipe, install Paranoid Android v2.50 and Voila...!!!
it boot correctly... maybe i'll try cyanogen soon after updating this PA and done backing up...
Sorry for troubling and hopefully it helps others...
I have flashed both aorth's CM10 and PA, both work fine. However, aorth's CM10 is much better, battery life etc. Make sure to backup and do full wipes if switching between different ROMs. If just upgrading to new aorth CM10s or new PAs from previous versions, cache and dalvik wipes are all that's needed.

(Q) jellybam 1.3 won't flash

Hi guys. Al thou this is my first post I've been flashing my i9003 for a year or so and i've never had any problems until now.
I have an stock gingerbread installed (XXKPQ) that I flashed using odin, kernel version (2.6.35.7-CL709629 [email protected] #1)
Just so you know, I'm from Argentina, and in order to be able to use 3g, had to keep the modem in I9003LUBKB1 version.
I also flashed cf root (by Skin1980) and I'm using CWM v1.80
I get the latest jellybam (1.3) from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972087
And followed the instructions in the official website : http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
Just in case you're too lazy to follow the link here are the instructions:
What to do if you are coming from a Stock, CyanogenMod, MIUI, AOKP and any other custom ROM different from JellyBam
-Download the latest revision of JellyBam ROM for your device
-Place the zip into your internal SDCard
-Boot into CWM recovery (Home+Power+Volume up until samsung logo appear)
-Wipe data/factory reset
-Wipe dalvik cache (Inside advanced tab)
-Install zip from internal SDCard
-Welcome to JellyBam!
(I had to wipe the data first and then put the zip in the sd card because wiping the data was erasing the jellybam zip)
The first time I run the installer it got stuck at 50% while installing sony's media player. So i just started the process again and uncheked sony walkman player, it installed "successfully".
When the phone restarted, it was just the old gingerbread, in the about phone panel, it was all the same that before installing jellybam.
So it obviously didn't installed. I can make calls, send and receive messages, wifi is working fine.
So can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? Do i have to flash a jellybean kernel?, I dont really know hoe to do that but I'm sure there's more than one post around here that explains that process.
If this question has already been posted I'm really sorry, I did search for any post that could help me with this problem but I didn't find any real answer.
I really hope somebody can help me, and sorry for the bad english, I did study the language but it was a long time ago.
Thanks everybody, specially to developers, you're awesome.:good:
I think you should fist flash theJellyBam v1.1.0 alpha4 in order to repartition before flash the v1.3. hope it can help u.

Wiping the data does not affect your Internal/External storage.

First of all thank you for your helpful answer (I clicked the thank you button).
I have cwm version 5 and I have been having the same problem than the OP. I'd like to flash a CM rom before going on to JB 1.3 so my question is, knowing that I currently have an I9003XXKPR 2.3.6 rom, can I flash CM 10 or should I start by a previous version? And, if so, which one?
Thank you for your help.

i think you should start from zero. take a backup of your files, flash a stock rom and then use universal cf root to root your phone. then flash cm 10 alpha 4 and then the jellybam 1.3. that's the way i have flashed mine. i hope it helps.

Good luck! i hope you flash it correctly! just read and follow the instructions in the cm10 thread thoroughly so you can avoid any problems.
All custom rom unofficial, not compile, but directly modify our base cyanogen
It is recommended to start on a CM10 origin
Example A3 to A4
KPE> LF2> CF-LF2
Wipe Data / Factory Reset. (MUST DO THIS STEP)
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash.
Auto rebooted into recovery (if it show error mounting / cache, and cant mount in manually mount and storage, do wipe / cache)
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash again
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery.
Mounts and Storage -> Format dbdata (you would not find this in CWM so just ignor 6)
8. reboot
You can then flash all based on Unofficial Alpha 4
Just do the basic procedure wipe

For a while, I wasn't sure if scott.hart.bti even made a CM10.0 ROM. According to the changelog in this link, one existed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129
Unfortunately, all that is available now is CM 10.1 and 10.2. 10.0 may have been removed because it seems (based on the Q&A thread), CM10 used 4.1.1 (the version affected by Heartbleed), not 4.1.2.
If you want to stick with CM 10.x, I would recommend 10.1. Here is the process (from Gingerbread):
Obtain CWM, this can be done using Jscotts Odin back to stock (Follow instructions and use SGS kernal flasher to obtain CWM)
Run Qksters IMEI backup script here
Make certain you are on ICS, this can be done by flashing Entropy's CM9
It is recommended now that you remove your SD Card
CWM: Wipe Cache / Factory Reset
Install ROM: Scroll down for downloads section
... The package will start to install..
... Phone will reboot into the install screen again...
... Continue to install [Automatically] If not manually flash again
... Phone will reboot again and be at the recovery screen...
Install Gapps
CWM: Wipe Cache Partition

I am assuming you already have Slim Bean installed. Here's the thread to download:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34430995
To update, all you really need to do is download the final image, save it to the SD card, flash it with CWM/TWRP then clear the dalvik cache.
Don't think there is a need to flash gapps as well since you are not factory resetting in this case. Unless your current version of Slim Bean is not 4.2.x, then you will need gapps (and even then a factory reset would be recommended).
If you are looking to install from scratch, the guide above (in my previous post) is pretty standard (looks to be the same was what is provided in the link).

No kernel necessary. Just need CWM to start with (can access by performing the "three-finger-salute" - that is, while holding both volume keys, press the power button), and flash (install from zip) Entropy's CM9 with it's respective gapps. That will bring you to ICS and the right version of CWM (Blue I think). You are free to then flash Slim Bean.
Hope this explains better.

Look it up on the google if you are tire of looking through the forum.
You got to update the rom. there is even video tutorial that Ricky Ericson made if you don´t want to read.
I am a noob also in this but the video guide helps alot.
Have fun flashing!

[Q] Do I have to flash stock kernel before flashing any other rom?

I want to flash Cyanogenmod 11, but I'm currently running DN4 ROM on my Galaxy S3 (Int.) with arter97 kernel. Do I have to return to stock ROM and kernel before switching to Cyanogenmod?

Not sure what DN4 ROM is. If it's KitKat, then just wipe /system, /data, and dalvik cache then fish your ROM's zip file.
If you are on Jelly Bean, then you will need a KitKat compatible recovery like PhilZ CWM Touch or TWRP, and probably an updated modem. zip file to flash first to your S3.
Then format system and data partitions and wipe dalvik cache, then flash CM11.
If on an older Android version like Ice Cream Sandwich, you might need to install a newer KK/JB recovery and radio, format system, data and dalvik, and flash CM10 Jelly Bean first, then follow the steps to flash CM11 KitKat.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

DN4 is basically a port of the Note 4 ROM (which is KK) for the Galaxy S3. I really appreciate your help, but my my problem is the kernel, because now I have arter97's kernel, but I want to flash CM12 with JustArchi kernel in order to have better performance. On the latter kernel's thread I've read that it's strongly not recommended to flash it on another custom kernel (arter97 in this case), so I was thinking to go back to stock and then flash CM12 with JustArchi's kernel. Is this okay to go like this or there's a better way to do it? Thanks again for your help!

Just make a nandroid backup and try it. Make sure you format system and data partitions and wipe dalvik cache before flashing CM12.
You don't need to go stock first; if you have a custom recovery and the bootloader is unlocked, worst case is you restore your nandroid.
I suggest asking about this in the JustArchi thread too.

i can only answer this surely if you tell us which rom/ version you currently using .... but if you allready on CM12.1 update this way:
(dirty install):
backup current rom (in case of problems)
in recovery install the new update
wipe cache + dalvic-cache
now, if you get any issues or FC's etc... you will need a clean install (fatcory reset / data wipe)
remeber this rom is still under development so sometimes a clean install in fact is needed...
