There is currently no official release of KitKat for your device. I don't know if Samsung will ever release KitKat for your device.
What you can do is try to find a custom KitKat rom for your device. I haven't searched for any, but if there is a custom rom for your device, it's sure to be on XDA.
Flashing a custom ROM means you will lose all Samsung software and S apps like S Planner, S voice..etc. But you might end up loving your phone even more and the stock android experience. Plus, there are a lot of new features that you can find in custom roms.
To get started with custom roms, you will definitely need a custom recovery installed. You should start reading on what this means. A lot of reading. You can easily find information on google, videos on youtube, and lots of sites with instructions.
Flashing roms can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Make sure you read very carefully and flash roms, kernels and recoveries that have been made specifically for your device. Anything else will probably brick your phone.
And always search on XDA, or post a question if you are not sure.

[Q] Device unsupported by custom rom. anyway to install?

I'm somewhat new to the whole idea of rooting an android device, and flashing custom roms. I've rooted my phone successfully, but there doesn't seem to be a custom rom tailored to my phone anywhere on the web. Is there any way I could use a custom rom (looking at CyanogenMod) for a different device on my own?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Centura (SCH-S738C)
Carrier: StraightTalk
Android Version: ICS 4.0.4 (Stock OS)
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-1207620 (Original Phone Kernel)

U can port ur own rom for ur device from the custom rom of a similar device with same specs if available with the help of dozens of tutorial in xda.
But you ll have to put a lot of hardwork on learning and implementing it, also have to sacrifice much of ur time. Indeed if you don't wanna do that, just wait until some devs to come up to cook rom for ur device if ur device model is new
Hit thanks rather than typing it

I think I'll take a look at some of the tutorials and give that a go. I aim to have as much control over my device as possible.

[Completed] Rooted HUAWEI ASCEND Y220-U10 Custom ROM Compatible?

Hey guys I am fairly new to android and really new to this rooting and custom rom thing and I've been doing my research with what a rooted android w/ custom rom could look like and what it could further do.
I was hoping that my rooted phone is compatible with Custom Roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOKP, etc. Unfortunately my phone isn't listed in any listed devices in the well known Custom Rom Sites but I still proceeded with installing Cyanogen Mod since everyone seems to be using it. I don't even know if there are more of these eye candy useful mods that makes the ios look miserably locked up while hoping at least one of these custom rom is compatible with my crappy awesome phone. But upon installation process of Cyanogen Mod WITHOUT awareness that it really isn't compatible, it stated in that page that I could (STILL)use their Custom Rom at my own risk. Beyond that I stopped the installation process in fear of destroying my phone.
I was wondering whether you guys could enlighten me about the compatibility of Huawei Y220-U10 to Custom Roms. I've seen Huawei Y210's on youtube that's using a custom rom but unfortunately ALL of them who's demonstrating their phones are speaking in Spanish. I also installed ROM Installer but I can't seem to see 'FEATURED'? Maybe because it's the free version?
Now I am willing to take the risk, starting from the bottom meaning derooting my phone, wiping it clean, rerooting it and flashing that Custom Rom but I'm seeking advice from much more experienced users because if you guys tell me that it is a BIG NO NO I guess I'll just have to stick with the Go Launcher and wait until I get a much better, stronger, faster android smartphone which has a friendlier compatibility to everything android. And how come I can't access facebook nor yahoo from any web browser in my phone? is it a virus? Please clarify my theories.
Much Regards, Jom
P.S. Phone is running at 2.3.6 and rooted with Kingo Android ROOT
Hello @Jom Apa Welcome to Android / XDA!
"BIG NO NO!" You can't flash ROMs not made for your device because of the underlying hardware incompatibilities. You might completely kill your phone.
Give me a few minutes while I search for ROMs you can use
UPDATE: Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any custom firmware for your device nor Github entries for the chipset used. Seems you'll either have to stick with stock or create your own custom ROMs there are a lot of support here on XDA, Let the learning begin!
Cheers!

[Completed] That thing is possible?

Don't take me for a crazy (lol) but i want to ask that if it is possible to install custom Rom galaxy s5 latest version and the model is SM-G900H on my lg e450 and the android version is 4.1.2, yes it is jelly bean and have been successfully rooted. However, i do not want to flash my mobile unless it is necessary... It is possible to install another custom Rom on my mobile phone, switching from one custom Rom to another? And my mobile is sim unlocked.
I've been trying launchers like Galaxy S but it is not the same effect as having the real operating system or could you help me finding some nice custom roms which are stable and supports my device?
Thank you for reading and you'll get a reward for helping me , but i would rather ask the experts in this field!
this is not possible. if you try it you will hard brick your device. You can only flash roms meant for your exact device. NO exceptions.
Thank you

[Completed] Any custom ROM for Micromax Canvas Tab P650?

Note: I am a beginner.
Hello,
I have tried very hard but I was not able to find any custom ROM for my Micromax Canvas Tab P650 running Jelly Bean. Two websites offered Andriod 5.0 ROM on the condition that I must complete those un-complete-able surveys. I think that only a ROM made specially for a particular device can be flashed on that device. Is it so?
I am looking for an AOSP ROM (or whatever term used for a ROM that is not [much] different from that provided by Google) for my device but if it is not available, any custom ROM will work. I just want a newer Android version.
Please help!

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
You are right that a ROM has to be tailor-made for that device. With regard to the survey sites, if you get through to the end, all you get is a Google Apps package, that may have viruses loaded in them (I know people that have been down that road before).
Unfortunately, all I see for you device is a stock ROM. That doesn't mean there isn't any AOSP (or newer versions for that matter) projects for your device, but it is highly unlikely.
Sorry.

Would there be any hope for getting Android Jellybean or KitKat on this old Samsung from 2012? (Samsung Galaxy Discover)

I have a Samsung Galaxy Discover, it's my old childhood phone and for the memories, I want to make it as usable as I can now, however I basically can't do anything internet related with it as it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich (which I will be shortening to ICS for the rest of this post), ICS has certificate issues which you can't do anything about, to use anything internet related you need Jellybean (also has certificate issues but not as bad as ICS and they can be updated unlike ICS) or KitKat (has all modern certificates), however the Discover only has ICS ROMs, there was a Jellybean ROM at one point however the link is dead and I can't find an archive of it. I know it's possible to get Jellybean and KitKat on the Discover because the Galaxy Ace Plus has both Jellybean and KitKat ROMs, and the Ace Plus and Discover are basically the same phone, and I did spend a bit of time trying to port a CyanogenMod 10 ROM for the Ace Plus to the Discover, but I'm just too inexperienced with ROM porting and making ROMs and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so after I ran into an issue I couldn't find any details about on Google, I just gave up and went back to ICS.
If anyone could explain how to make a ROM (whether it be making my own ROM from scratch or porting an already existing ROM like CyanogenMod) for the Discover or even make a ROM for me, I'd be super thankful, preferably I want Jellybean as this is a super cheap phone and I don't think KitKat will run very well on it, however if KitKat is easier to get running I'll do KitKat. The exact model number of the phone is SGH-S730M. I have access to computers running macOS, Windows and Linux. (figured that'll be helpful to know if I need to make a ROM)
How do I create a custom rom?

That page doesn't help. The first guide linked there requires you getting the device tree, vendor, and kernel from GitHub, and since the Discover is an obscure device, I highly doubt any of that stuff is on GitHub, I'd have to pull it from a pre-existing ICS ROM or something (but idk how to do that), and on the second page linked there I don't see any sort of guide.
