Phone not charging the same speed when using non OEM charger. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title say's it all. When I use the included charger the phone charges much more quickly than when I use a 3rd party charger. I've tried a variety of different charges all with the same result. I know this was supposedly fixed in the most recent update, but it seems to still be affecting me.

AFAIK, most 3rd party chargers that I've come across only output 1A, such as my old iPhone adapter.
The one included with the OPO outputs 2A.
This is the same with my note 3 adapter outputting 2A which I've tested and performs the same as the OPO adapter.

I heard that the OPO usb does make it charge faster too. Saw someone on this forum tested it, can't remember which thread though.

Using Galaxy S3 charger took forever, I charged now with the OPO one and it went 20% in 20 minutes.
the S3 charger gives 1.0A, while I have also the Asus TF101 charger which gives 2.0A....
I will verify later the cable too.

Link that the OPO usb makes it charge faster? I use a usb cable from a previous phone bc the OPO usb is too short.
mcbyte: ASUS TF101 is 2.0A? I thought it was 1.2A

it's the same with my Note 2 and my Note 8. They need 2A chargers, otherwise it's sooo slow, like the OPO.

Found It, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/accessories/charger-cable-oneplus-1-t2802484 I'm not sure if it's true though. I might try some of my 3rd party cable and compare to 1+1 cable.

I was trying to find a app that keeps track of the charging rate but I didn't have much luck. That would be a definite confirmation. But yeah, I would for certain want to know.
I am pretty satisfied with the charging rate right now though. Using my Nexus 5 usb with the oneplus one wall charger. Alternatively, I have the blackberry folding charger which is 1.8A charges really fast as well even though it isn't 2A.

[Q] sm-p905 Charging with non genuine charger

Gday All,
I realise that this topic has been mentioned in a few threads, but from what I could find, there is no definiteve fix.
Is there a way to disable this so that a non-genuine charger will work once the screen turns off, or if I was to root the device, is there then a way to do it.
Please dont flame me, I'm a total newb to android, and I dont mind admitting that.
Bit dissapointed that Samsung has sunk to this.
TIA!
Not sure what issues you are having but I have been using a few different chargers without issue. Which exact charging method are you trying to use (cable type, charger type, charger rated output voltage and amperage)?
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
The problem isn't that the charger is 3rd party.
The problem is that the device requires a 5.1V 2A charger or higher.
Anything lower than that is simply not powerful enough. You can find these specs in small lettering on the charger. Most cheap 3rd party launchers are 5V 1A.

I was one of the ones having problems with it needing to have the screen on to charge. It was a problem with the charger (yes, it was marked as a high amperage charger), changed to a different one (Anker 40W 5 port) and it's working fine.

Huge second on the Anker. I love that charger by the way. With various devices I would get irritated with some refusing to charge on certain chargers (my BlackBerry Bold in particular). I've since switched to the Anker 5 port 40 Watt and no longer worry about which cable I'm reaching for. Every device gets the power it needs with no fuss.

Initially i was using a belkin 2 port, 2.1amp per port charger, which would start charging but stop once the screen was off.

This seems logical, but it does work when i use the genuine charger from my sgs3 which is a 5vdc 1a charger. Takes all night to charge, but charges non the less.

That's because the retention rate of the S3's charger is higher than that of a generic cheap 3rd party one. Where the S3 charger actually delivers 0.8-1A, the cheaper ones usually average around 0.5A.
This is why charging over a usb 2.0 port without any power boosts also (usually, there have been some exceptions) doesn't work.
I usually charge mine with my Note 3 or S5 charger, as the three are all the same charger.

Charging cord?

Is this thing a joke? It's barely 3 ft long. How the hell are we supposed to use this effectively and safely without it falling on the floor plugged in and crack the screen? It barely reaches my bedside table.

Buy another charger? I use the blackberry playback charger personally long cable fast charging and pretty cheap to buy.
Adjust accordingly. Just know that if u do replace the cable or use another charger, the charging rate won't be as fast. See https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-one-charging-cable-alternative.68517/
But I completely agree, it should have been longer. I just adjusted accordingly and all is good now, the cable should have been at least 6 ft.

I have no idea about that, maybe someone else can provide input on that. I do love the fast charging rate on the phone though, I'll even pay OnePlus $5-10 to have a larger usb cable with their special battery juice.

Yup I know how you felt.. I used the blackberry folding charging for my N5 and it charged super quick and the cable is super long.
The blackberry folding charger was 1.8A.
I thoroughly recommend the blackberry charger. It has to be this one:
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/301241170713?nav=SEARCH
Should be able to grab it from your location too. A lot of sellers sell this particular charger. It's got a 6ft cable and charges quickly. I've replaced all my chargers with this one and it works a treat.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ng charger&sprefix=blackberry+folding+cha, aps looks like they became more expensive, I paid $5 for 2 back when I bought them.
I got some off monoprice for $7.

The Pixel does not support wireless charging. You would need to install one of those stick on QI compliant receivers that plug into the USB C port.

I don't have first hand experience, but I see a few problems.
First, the USB C factory charger charges the phone to 70% in 15 minutes. It isn't like previous devices where you would throw it on the QI charger every spare moment because the battery took forever to charge. Second, the voltage output is not device specific and would take longer to charge the phone than using a standard USB C cable/charger.
I guess what I am saying is that yeah, any of the QI compliant stickers would work, but I ask, are they useful? I lived by QI on my Nexus 6, but seeing what type of battery life I get now, coupled with the ridiculously quick charge times, I no longer see the merit.
I don't mean to thread crap, but it took me a while to get over QI when weighing my options to upgrade. I honestly no longer miss wireless charging. I miss my dual facing stereo speaker and my almost 0 bezel from my Nexus 6, but not QI.
I hope this somewhat helps.

Definitely helps, and yes I too am struggling with just getting over wireless charging. It's just hard to cast aside all the wireless accessories (for 2 phones, my wife has one as well).
I think once there is an external DAC that has inline charging I'll happily dump the wireless charging idea haha!

Which car charger?

Hello all,
as the title says, which car charger would you guys recommend?
i would like to have 'fast charge' (if that's how Samsung calls it), but, i do not see any car charger offered on samsung website?
i have 'dash charger' from OnePlus 3T device, but, i do not think it can be used?

Any charger that supports 2A and has USB port works fine. Use my sammy USB cable to plug in. Charges well even in daylight with satellite gas is active.
You will definitely want one with Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0, it makes such a difference in charge speed. I have this one: http://amzn.to/2f9KVh0, I love Anker for all my charging needs! It costs a bit more than the other options but the perfect 5-star reviews speak for themselves You will also want to get a 3ft USB A to C cable like this one: http://amzn.to/2f9KVh0

No way! I call you on that one. Our 3 year old devices can't quick charge without damage. Please do not post such info without knowing 1st hand. Our custom kernels limit fast charge to 1.8 A for a good reason.
Sorry I thought this was the Galaxy Note 8 (new phone) forum. Confusing from the XDA app... Having a QuickCharge charger won't hurt on old devices, they will charge at the normal 2.1 or 1.8 amps. But I agree in this case (old tablet) it won't help (but it's not like the newer charger will damage the device--they scale back their charging gracefully).

Cheapo $9 EBAY Generic Desktop Stand - Fast Charging 13w + working w/Samsung AC/USB

Cheap! $9.00 (20w) Generic Desktop Fast Charging Stand (Working w/NON OEM AC USB) including SAMSUNG Fast Wireless AC / USB
___________________
First let me say I have absolute ZERO affiliation to anything relating the sale of this product!
I am just sharing the wealth here for as being still such an unclarity on proper working charging accessories. A small gamble I took on purchasing (2) of these cheapies on EBAY turned out to be quite
a surprise.

Using with GP4XL (Unlocked)
• Fast Wireless Charging (13.2w confirmed)
• Charger immediately recognized on device (as PIXEL STAND) enabling additional GOOGLE ASSISTANT software
• Working w/various GENERIC AC Adapters & USB cables (YAY!)
including SAMSUNG FAST WIRELESS AC / USB + more
• No issues of overheating or phone getting warm.
I am unsure if the specs are EPP charging (as a listed requirement of FAST CHARGING via Google) though it seems to be doing the job as if it was.
What I did find ODD is that these chargers DO NOT play nice using the GENUINE AC Adapter & USB C cable that shipped with the PIXEL 4. SLOW CHARGING AT MAX! Go Figure?
I have tested various older USB cables and USB C adapters and all with no issues w/Fast Charging (though obviously keep in mind results do vary with stuff like this!)
Regardless, for $9 bux, its worth checking out for anyone who is interested.

I think it only needs to be quick charge 2.0/3.0 capable. Didn't the OP say he had trouble using the original pixel charger that came with his phone? I actually ran into issues using my original pixel wall charger with some wireless car charger mounts. They worked fine with QC chargers.

I ordered one too for 10 bucks it's worth a try.
They sent two of these to me. Both show max 8.4 watts no matter what cable/plug I use and I have many. It also does not present itself as a Pixel Stand - those features are not available.
To add, I noticed the stands get in a state that bounces power on/off very quickly and doesn't stop. I would avoid these.

Yes, bouncing like a bad port on a router/switch. It goes from charging/not charging very quickly over and over after about 3-5 minutes of charging.

Sorry for any delayed responses here (holiday) though I have just caught these testing results.
I just received an additional (2) of the same chargers and all seem to charge fine here. (Pixel 4 XL)
All being used with Samsung AC Fast Charging AC adapter.
Check to see if the AC adapter you are using has both 5v & 9v output. (Must have 9v for the FAST to charge)
-
Can you post a photo of the AC adapter that you are using ? (all photos could be of assistance here.)
The stand itself is 20w so fast charging would more or less come down to the AC plug.
** Keep in mind that the OG cable and AC charger plug that came with the PIXEL phone is not compatible
with this charger that will hit at SLOW. (mentioned in OG post)
I tried several, from the OEM to choetech to aukey to zte. I used the cable it came with, OEM a to c, OEM c, third party c; i tried both type c and qc3 chargers...all with no success. I wouldn't think the pixel stand feature shouldn't have anything to do with charging speed, though I can't say for sure

I believe the PIXEL stand software features only become enabled when detecting a FAST CHARGE at 13.5w.
(which is capable when using AC adapters of 9v & more)
The only AC adapter I personally have found to be non working was THE OG stuff & USB C to USB C
Most USB C to USB A seemed to work with no hitch.
USB C adapters, had no issues with them either. worked fine.
Can you snap of picture of the AC adapter labels. ?
See if we could narrow down the issues.
also one last .... check the actual charging wattage using the app Inware. (Battery Tab)
The lock screen charging message will ONLY show Charging Wireless - not rapid charging (which is easily misleading) though is running at FAST WIRELESS CHARGING speeds.

Using with LG stylo 5 fast adapter and the chargingspeed is fast. between 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours total. Using with Usb C to Usb A cable 3 ft.
My only issue really was trying to get the extra software up and running. I couldn't figure out why or how to do it. strange as I moved my pixel phone upwards while resting on the dock all of a sudden it just appeared out of nowhere to activate all the extras. weird device for sure but works.

I am using the original lg fast adapter plug.
9.0v 1.8amps and 5.0v 1.8 amps. working well with stand.

Thanks I'll have to try that when I get mine

I ordered a pair of these stands as well and am still waiting for them.
But I did order this one before that from amazon https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07Y9J68TC
and it also gets recognized as a pixel stand. (only when using samsung or QC3 adapters though)
