Hey Guys,
I need some help with my G2x. Everything was working absolutely fine with it. I updated, modified the phone etc everything working great. One night, I'm sitting here and I pick up my phone to use it. I notice it says invalid sim card and I have no signal. I figured either T-Mobile had a problem or maybe I just needed to hard reboot. I did that, nothing. It finds the network for t-mobile, but it can not connect. No matter what I do, INVALID SIM CARD. I restore it, INVALID SIM CARD, NVFLASH restore to factory, INVALID SIM CARD. It was working completely fine and then one night it just crapped out and it's been over a month. I can't figure out what to do. I went to a t-mobile dealer today and got a new SIM card, it says the same thing! INVALID SIM INVALID SIM INVALID SIM.
I don't really know what to do at this point, I've tried everything.
I searched all over the forum, heard suggestions from call t-mobile to restore etc but nothing is working here.
My last ditch effort is to try unlocking the phone. I'm waiting for the unlock code now, but I'm really hoping that someone with more experience might know what I'm dealing with here and hopefully lend a helping hand in terms of some advice.
It'd be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly saavy when it comes to recovering bricked phones, etc. but I've never had an APN issue where the APN is good to go and the SIM works in other phones, etc. but not mine including when a t-mobile dealer actually links a brand new sim to the phone and it still isn't working, etc. No clue what's going on but I'm hoping unlocking the phone will help. Any help would be really appreciated.
Sorry to hear that happened. Did u try a different sim?

yes no sim card is currently working on it.
I just unlocked the phone, it does not fix the problem.
It continues to say invalid sim card. :-(
---------- Post added at 04:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 PM ----------
In the settings menu when I go to APN's it has the t-mobile apn and everything is correct. I go to network operators and ATT, T-MOBILE US and T-MOBILE GSM come up, but when I try to connect to any one of the three it says "unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later" I am mystified. I've tried everything I can think of.
---------- Post added at 05:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:52 PM ----------
Another point to make.
When I put in the sim card, even though it's NOT registering to the network and every card says INVALID SIM CARD, I received a notification telling me that I had a voicemail......... when I put my sim card into another phone and called my vm, I did indeed have a v/m.... so I don't believe the phone is shot, I believe something is just very wrong and I don't understand what it is.
You need a new similar, this happened to me, I rooted my g2x and it said invalid similar, if u show T-Mobile they will give u a free one

Go to T-mobile or call get a new Sim card stay until it works are do a phone exchange but stay until they fix the problem your phones is still under factory warranty of they can't fix the problem they violate the contract

have you tried a full wipe then flashing a new rom?
simple method to try
Multiple times.
I've NVFlash recovered to stock.
I've flashed multiple different roms.
I'm wiped everything over and over, hard rebooted many times over.
Completely formatted the phone and recovered, etc.
I've tried a million things.
When I put the card in, T-mobile comes up for a second then goes away and says invalid sim card. I went to a t-mobile dealer, they gave me another sim card and it's the same thing. I really just don't know what to do. I feel like I've tried everything.
Do you have another T-Mobile phone, or any unlocked GSM phone, you can use to test the sim card? At least that way you can determine if the problem is with your phone or the actual sim card.
Sounds like an issue with your phone, but its always good to be sure.

Sounds like your baseband code got corrupted or your baseband chip went bad. Restore it and do a warranty swap if you can. No way to reflash baseband at this time on the G2X.

Yes, if that works it will flash the new baseband and return his phone to GB stock. Worth a try.
hey guys... no warranty. It's fix it or I'm screwed, unfortunately.
It sounds like you guys identified the problem with the baseband corruption..
I'm going to try and do all methods suggested in the thread including unrooting and updating to gingerbread, rerooting... and also flashing the baseband...
I'll be back with some results!
Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'm obviously hoping I can resolve this!
Thanks again
I got "invalid sim" only when trying to start wifi calling and booting to CWM and wiping the cache and rebooting solved the problem.
If nothing works for you get a new sim card from t-mobile.
T-Mobile also had some funny setting in my account and after several hours with tech support and providing a sim card (phone number) of friend of mine they fixed it. As in ..my phone worked fine with my friends sim card but not with mine.
[HELP] I am having the same issue. I have a T-Mobile G2x/P999. I have had at least 10 roms without issues on the device. I flashed to CM7.0.1.0 stable and bam I have an Invalid sim card, I have tried to unroot, stock flash, NVFlash to stock, trying a different rom altogether with no avail. I have tried NV BAT Flash with NVFLash and nothing. I have found many post about CM7 after of course I flashed mine. My previous sim was new in April of this year, but I went to T-Mo and get a new one today with nothing. I to have wiped, licked, and spanked my phone with no results... CAN ANYONE HELP?? Can't even send it back in because I cant unroot it... HELP!!!!!

Yikes! Thats taking phone sex to a whole new level ... Did you try removing the battery and sim card, waiting a few seconds and then reinserting and rebooting?

Yes I have done everything possible... Before the CM7.0.1.0 rom was installed, my baseband was from March 2001, now it reads July 2011. I have tried to switch back to the prevoius Baseband, but it wont let me either.
So I updated my firmware (I was already superCID'd) and then when I loaded a new ROM I had no service. I have tried many different ROMs, radios and the such but have had no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I had issues on mine as well, after reflashing it seemed to behave much better. I had a good download verified by md5, the first flash was successful by every indication, but my signal was non-existent or crap at best. After the reflash it just started working better. Give it a try!
Edit: To clarify, I mean to reflash the firmware, not the ROM. I had deleted the P58IMG file from my SD so I had recopy it over to reboot into bootloader to flash it.

I tried that but it did not work, I dont think it even recognizes that I am on T-Mo because in the settings it says that there are no network operators and all of the network settings are blank.
Have you done a factory reset? I had the APN settings grayed out after flashing a rom. I had to simply go and perform a factory reset and start from scratch. DO NOT ERASE YOUR SD CARD. And make sure you have a rom to flash after you reset your phone.

I tried that but it didnt change anything. I am starting to think it might be something with the SIM card or the phone reading the SIM card because in the settings it says "Please insert SIM" and Wi-Fi calling says "Reading SIM" the whole time.

Do you have another SIM to try? The TMo stores usually are helpful with stuff like that.
Still though, this sounds awfully familiar. I do remember reading something similar about the SIM not being recognized a couple weeks ago when the ICS ROMS first came out but can't remember what threads. Do some forum searches on missing SIM, SIM not recognized, stuff like that and see if anything looks helpful.
Edit: Can't seem to find it now. The only other things I can think of to try is to power off, remove the SIM, power up, let it boot completely, then power off, replace the SIM, and power back up. If that doesn't work, I would try flashing an appropriate RUU from here. Be careful to pick the right RUU for your area and carrier. To flash the RUU, just connect the USB plug from your PC to the phone and doubleclick the RUU exe file to start. It should find the phone and do everything necessary, firmware, radio, partitions, etc. and put you back on a stock ROM. You can flash CWM or 4EXT recovery and then whatever ROM you want.
The one I remember reading about, the guy replaced the Sim card and it fixed his no service issue.

Yes I remember replying to that thread as well. That guy bought that phone on craigslist or something and used his old sim, not the sim that comes with the phone itself.
Go to a tmo store/kiosk at the mall and ask to test out a different sim for the phone and see if that works.
I did some research and didn't find a problem similar to mine.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket that's 1 year, 1 week old today (so out of the warranty period).
I rooted it, have nova launcher, cwrm, and am running stock ICS on AT&T.
Earlier today, I noticed that I no longer had service which then went to No sim card inserted. I thought maybe it had gotten dislodged but that was not the case. I tried a factory reset and then a restore using crrm to a earlier date and still the same error. Even after the factory reset it had no sim card as the error.
My next step was okay my sim card is corrupt or something. Went to the AT&T store and got a brand new one and it still had the same error. this led me to believe it might be a hardware problem. I think I ruled out the kernel and the modem not communicating correctly because i'm not running any roms (nor have I ever on this phone) as well as tried to factory wipe and tried to put a fresh ICS stock via kies.
Any ideas as to why my phone still says no sim card? the sim card works as i'm using my old LGcu920 at the time of writing this with no problems. thanks in advance for any help.
flash my efs fix and then use Odin to restore GB. Reboot twice and then use Odin to flash ICS.

Before you flash that you might wanna try this. Take out your battery. Wait five minutes. Hold the power key(with the battery out) for 20 or 30 seconds. Then reboot. I've never seen anyone try this on the Rocket but I have seen it work on other phones.
idk what happened i was using my phone as normal and was using snapchat, then my camera crashed and rebooted my phone. then i noticed that i didn't have signal so i went to the settings and noticed that everything that has to do with ril is gone like imei, imei sv.
i have tried taking the sim out and back in but it wont work,
also my camera wont work, google play store crashes, but one weird thing is that my modem version does not show in settings but it does in when entering the bootloader. i flashed stock 4.4.2 but still nothing is working
please i need help, have tried searching the forums but cant find any thing this similar sorry if this has been answered before (and i don't have a efs backup because im stupid..)

Have you flashed the cache.img? Try flashing it 2-3 times... Or just head over to stock recovery and format cache 2-3 times and then do a factory reset.. These things needs to be done via the stock recovery and not a custom one.
I had a similar problems some weeks ago and this solved it!

i live in norway we cant send them to google directly it has to go trough the company where u bought it, say for an example my carrier telenor which would then deal with the problem. but i bought mine of ebay because i wanted it faster (due to problems of the 2012s nexus 7 where we didnt receive it before november.) so i guess the phone is pretty much useless now?

i had the same issue when running the Nexsense port. There was a known issue that it would break the sensors back when it first got released but the DL link got removed immediately. after that there was a post to correct the sensors. but there was another issue with it as well. seeing as it was a NAND backup, it was very possible it re-wrote you EFS partition on your phone which stores you IMEI and other data like that. The only possibility of getting that back, is if you did a backup of the EFS partition prior to having an issue. just a warning: DO NOT FLASH ANOTHER PHONES EFS PARTITION TO YOURS. the only way to get the phone to work again with a messed up EFS partition (from what i have seen) is through replacement device unfortunately

>> Partial solution was found; still looking for the root of the problem. <<
I recently decided to take the plunge and root my OnePlus One and install sultanXDA's CM 13 ROM on it. It was all going well until I booted up into the ROM and discovered that I couldn't get any mobile data. Everything else was working, calling, texting, wifi, but mobile data seemed to refuse to work. Since I initially flashed sultan's ROM with TWRP 3.0.0, I suspected it was a problem with my modem. Though unable to install TWRP 2.8.6.0 to re-flash everything, I did still flash a new modem via ADB. This didn't help.
I have tried many things to fix this. I rebooted/reflashed. I flashed different ROMs. I tried flashing on TWRP 2.8.6.1, though I believe that one has the same modem problem as the versions after it. As mentioned above I tried flashing a modem over ADB. I took out and re inserted my SIM card. In the end, I tried this guide here to restore my phone to it's original state. The guide flashes the stock versions of everything via ADB. Though it did return me to unrooted COS 12.1, it was not able to resolve my data problem.
After the total reset, all I can think that could be causing it is a hardware problem or that it is caused by something not reset in the 100% restore above.
If any of y'all can help my solve this, or at least offer insight, I would be very grateful.
Preemptive Edit I Guess: This thread was just suggested to me while writing this. I'm going to try the solution here and report back. It's OnePlus' reset to stock method. I'm not expecting much after my first 100% reset attempt, but we'll see.
EDIT: Ok, so the solution above fixed my problem... (edit again: turned out to only be a partial solution. See below.)
I would feel really dumb right now if it weren't for the fact that I slaved over this problem for a good ~8 hours before writing this post. Anyways, I'm not sure how to delete this post or mark it as solved. Sorry for the trouble y'all.
Never delete this post !!
I have the same problem, and I spent much more time to find a solution.
I will try this and will update.
Is it a clean stock rom?
Edit:
Didn't help for me ..
Still the same problem, No mobile internet connection.
Thx anyway.
Yeah, actually I was too hasty is identifying this as the solution. For me, the stock reset brought me back to CM 11 which didn't have a problem with mobile data. But if I try to flash a later ROM or update via OTA, the problem returns. I'm still trying to figure out what is causing it. The only information I can find points to it being a modem problem or APN problem, but I'm sure I have sufficiently checked both of those already.
Either way, I'll keep looking. If I find something I'll return here with it. Good luck

I gave this a try, but booting up after step 3 I still had the same problem. If I understand this method correctly, I think it is essentially the same as the other full restore methods I tried.
I think I may have found the problem though. I was looking at OnePlus' guide to installing OxygenOS. In it they said, "do not try to flash this build through TWRP. You will most likely lose your radio and IMEI which means a trip to our customer support." At this point I have repeatedly reset/restored my modem/radio so I don't think that is the problem, but I haven't seen anything about IMEI before. The IMEI is apparently stored in the EFS partition which as far as I can tell, is not touched by any of the restore methods I have tried. I took a look at my IMEI (about phone -> status) and it turns out my IMEI SV is 00. It's supposed to be a 16 digit number. I found a guide to fixing it, but I think I will just contact OnePlus customer support first.
I'll be back later with my results.

Yep, I ran each command listed in the guide and my phone was definitely in fastboot. Each command had a collections of "OKAY"s and ended with a "finished", which I assume means it executed as expected.
I have tried 2 different sim cards in my OPO (of two different companies, one of them as mine), and mobile data worked perfectly. Is it possible that my phone is ok and the problem happened in the sim card?

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying. Did it not work with the first SIM card, but it worked with the second?
Mobile data problem was occured (to me), after I rooted my OPO and tried to flash a new rom.
I still can't understand how it convinced my sim card, but the fact is that I tried two (to be sure) other sim cards which are not mine, and mobile data worked well.
When I returned my original sim card, problem started again.
So I am almost sure that sim card has a connection, but can't understand why. And why it happend precisely now, cause it worked well over two years.

- tried the brand new simcard in my old Samsung sII... works perfetly, network connection with provider, data connection and calling..so no simcard problem
Long shot. Change any APN settings from IPv6 to IPv4. That was my problem when I had text/voice but no data.
I made a post on this and then called att gophone, due to seeing other sims working on this thread, and he helped me to fix. Posting my fix here in case others with isue find this post instead of mine.
Turned off wifi.
Turned off cellular data.
Went to APN and changed the apn (ATT Go Phone) from pta to nxtgenphone.
Turned on cellular data.
Finally had H+ above he signal bar, but had an X inside the bar.
Don't know if he did anything on his end, but the X went away after a couple of minutes.
Data was working, albeit kinda slow.
Turned off phone for three minutes per ATT rep.
Rebooted.
