cyanogenmod 7 on galaxy 3, no free space/factory reset after every reboot - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i've been experimenting with a samsung gt-i5800 which i was given for free if i could unbrick it (it only needed factory restored) i've successfully rooted it and decided to have a go at installing a custom rom, because i was fed up of having to use a static ip address to connect to wifi.
i used odin to put cyanogenmod 7 on it. it worked, and i'm happy with the mod, but it's showing that there's 0kb of internal storage, and every time it's rebooted it behaves as if it's been factory reset (settings, contacts apps etc are all gone) i've read a few topics about these problems, apparently the solution is to wipe it and reinstall the custom rom.
what i'm not entirely clear about is what is meant by wiping it. i'm assuming it doesn't just mean using the recovery menu to factory restore again? what exactly do i need to delete and how do i do it safely? thanks!

i figured out how to use CWM recovery to properly clear it out, then reinstalled from a zip with CWM, it's now working properly.
however i still had the same problem with the rom the second time i installed it with odin, even after using CWM recover to wipe it. it only started working properly after installing it with CWM

[Q] Tried to root...unroot...having issues with download mode. Help!?!

So...so I'll start out by admitting to being a complete noob here.
I rooted my phone with Superoneclick a couple of days ago. I ran the stock rom with a few additional su apps on it and today decided I was brave enough to try to flash a custom rom.
I backed up all the apps with Titanium Backup, and proceeded into the Rom Manager. In recovery mode, I deleted the user data and cache. The only other options at the time were to reboot or to reinstall all packets. Well, I rebooted.
Now, I'm in a situation where it looks like I've done a factory reset. Superoneclick won't unroot it and it's no longer recognized as rooted.
I also tried to use Heimdall in the download mode. It looks like it's going back into the same recovery mode that it was in before I deleted anything to begin with....the options of: reboot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data, and delete cache data. The computer isn't recognizing it as being connected in this mode at all. However, it does in normal boot mode.
So...what am I doing wrong to restore it to stock?
Edit: After booting and rebooting a number of times, I finally got it to work correctly with Superoneclick. I now have my custom rom

[Q] Can't get rid of encryption

I'm really stuck and need some help here, thanks in advance. So basically about a month ago I encrypted my rocket to use on my company's Exchange, but it turns out they don't support Android so that was a waste. At the time I was running Stock ROM ICS (Rogers), before then I had dabbled with Paranoid and a few others. I had CWD 5.5 installed.
Yesterday I was eager to try the new 4.1.2 JB leak, so I flashed it through CWD and all went well.. until it booted. It stops me just as it loads and gives me the message "Enter encryption key to unlock storage". It's been a while so I couldn't remember my PW, so I tried 100x until it said wiping data. I figured maybe it worked the same way as Blackberry, but even still after wiping it wanted the password and now when I enter anything in, it just reboots the phone.
Getting nowhere I went back into CWD, reset to factory default, wiped the caches etc, formatted system/data, and then reinstalled Stock ROM 4.0.(Rogers) using ODIN. That booted OK so I figured I managed to rid of the encryption, so again I installed CWD, and then the leaked 4.1.2 but again it's still giving me the same message!!! Arg! I've wiped all the caches a million times, formatted the system and data, reset factory defaults 10x, I've even tried flashing 4.1.2 Leak using TWRP but still no luck. I'm assuming I'm getting that message because it's still encrypted, so how the heck do I rid of this encryption? I'm thinking I have to re-partition the internal SD? Please help, I'm eager to try the new 4.1.2. Thanks
No amount of wiping /system, /data, or /cache will remove the encryption settings/keys because they are not stored in any of those partitions. They are stored in a partition that is not accessible by 'ordinary means'.
Did you perform the factory reset in CWM or in the stock recovery? I would suggest to use ODIN to flash back to the stock ICS ROM and recovery, boot to the stock recovery, factory reset from there, then reboot and make sure that encryption is no longer enabled in settings in the stock ROM.
If that's all good, then use ODIN to flash CWM and use it to flash a custom ROM.
Some info on Android encryption
Still no luck! arrg!! So I first used ODIN and install the Stock 2.3 Rogers ROM, I went into settings and reset back to factory. I rebooted, and went into the Stock Recovery however Up down arrow's worked but the enter "power button" wasn't working, so it doesn't look like i could choose reset factory from within stock recovery. Anyways, I rebooted into Download mode, used ODIN to install the STOCK 4.04 Rogers ROM, and rebooted. I checked the settings and it looked like encryption was off, or at least it had the option to encrypt. All signs anyways looked like it was off. I then installed TWRP 2.2, upgraded to 2.3, then flashed the leaked 4.1.2. And again when I rebooted, after the ATT logo I'm presented with the "Enter password to use encrypted device storage". I'm guessing it's still encrypted? And why is the stock google leaked 4.1.2 asking for the password but not the Rogers stock 4.04 ROM? Anything else I can try? It's also strange that when I enter the stock recovery mode the power button isn't funtioning as the enter key. Up down enter keys work, also if I press the home button, or maybe it was the back button it reboots. Thanks for the replies, hopefully there's more I can try. Maybe re-partitioning the entire internal SD?
Success... but lost cell unlock.
So after another Stock ICS Rogers ROM install, I went into backup and reset and did a factory reset. There's an option to delete the USB as well, which I may have been skipping... but I checked it off this time, then rebooted into the Recovery mode using TWRP 2.3. This time around I also made a few changes. I used the 4.1.2 debloat, but there's an option in TWRP to format the Android Secur... which I did... just because I wanted to nuke everything. So now yaahh!!! 4.1.2 boots up and no more encryption issues. Bad news, my phone is no longer unlocked
Idea's on the unlock?
NM... looks like using the debloat 4.1.2 I forgot to toss in the Radio, because using the regular 4.1.2 I tried again it works good. That'll be the last time I ever touch encryption.
To delete encrypted partitions successfully you need to install the android version which at least supports encryption. For example, if you install android 2.3 and you do a factory reset won't work for the internal sdcard, but probably will if you install android 4.1.2.

[Q] unable to delete data P5100

Hi all
I am in need of help, i have a GT-P5100 running CM10.1.2 stable build which has been randomly freezing and rebooting recently. I tried a factory reset via clockwork mod which said it was successful but upon rebooting no data had been reset.
I then tried flashing a different rom via clockwork mod and when that didnt work i tried via Odin, again no errors however no data had been changed. The flash counter in download mode does not increase each time i do this.
I have also tried formatting the sd card via clockwork mod with no success. When i try to uninstall an app it reappears after rebooting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's really strange..file system locked?
Try fixing permissions in CWM. I could not delete some folders but could fixing permissions. TWRP permitted browsing and deleting and that works also.

[Q] CWM 6.0.1.0 wont factory reset

So I have been using Hyperdrive for a while now and love it.
But my gps doesn't lock on, i know there have been plenty of topics on it.
But i thought that since I was not able to do a complete factory reset that this could be the source of error.
I am using CWM 6.0.1 and every time I try to factory reset my phone it gets stuck on formating /data. It ran all night last night with no prevail.
I have no idea what to do.
I tried to flash TWRP over CWM but cant figure out how to do that either I guess.
I run Ubuntu and have heimdall installed but am missing the proper librarys to factory reset
so I am at a loss and would appreciate any help I can get
Thanks ahead of time
If I were you sir, I would odin back to stock and start over. And you can use ROM Manager to flash CWM, and use Goo manager to flash twrp over CWM, You would not be able to restore a backup of CWM with TWRP and vice versa. Hope this helps.

"Encryption Failed" - Phone Will Not Factory Reset

After searching through countless threads on this site, I've had no avail in resetting my Rogers Samsung Galaxy S6 running XtreStoLite 2.2.
A little while ago, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt my phone with a custom ROM installed. I knew I had recovery and download mode, so I thought It'd be no biggie. Left the phone on overnight encrypting, came back 24 hours later and knew that it hung somewhere. Booted it up and this screen came up: Reset it and restored from TWRP backup, the same screen right here came up: http ://i.imgur.com/J37aZaq .png (sorry XDA will not let me post links, remove spaces) after this, I tried pressing the "reset device" button without success. It just rebooted the phone. Tried to restore from a different backup, no avail, then I tried to flash my custom ROM again through TWRP, no avail. I download ODIN and flashed stock Samsung firmware onto it and it still gave me this screen when I was done. Tried going into TWRP and factory resetting (where it wipes all partitions) and nothing happened. Currently, I'm trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S6 with the stock firmware through ODIN with the "re-parition" box checked.
It seems there's a hardware flag of some sort stopping this from working. I mean, my file system is brand new, reset to factory defaults, I even checked with ADB and everything has been formatted. Checked with TWRP file manager and everything is good. But I can't get past the "Encryption Failed" screen.
Help me! Thanks.
fix
did you fix this?
Hi, i am encountering the same problem with my G920F.
I have the XtreStoLite_Deo_Mod_v.2.3 and also TWRP installed
I started encrypting but it got stuck so i rebooted my phone and got the same message (Encryption failed, please do a factory reset). So i did the reset but the same screen appeared. I also tried restoring from a back-up from TWRP but the same screen was still there. So i decided to do a full wipe and restore the phone with a twrp back up witch was on my laptop. But when i am in TWRP i can not copy files to (or from) my phone. So it is not possible to get the backup on my phone. I am able to get in to download mode and connect the phone with odin.
My questions are :
- what was the solution to the problem?
- What causes the copying error? And what is the solution? So i can put the backup on my phone and try to restore it this way.
- What are my option with odin? Can i use the TWRP files in odin?
Thanks a lot in advance
Jules
Solved the issue. After a full wipe i installed a stock firmware with odin. It still displayed encryption failed after reboot. But after the factory reset the notification was gone.
I have fixed this
Best solution is on a stock rom to reset. If rooted with recovery -format and wipe all data, reset, let sit at boot for a while, go into recovery and install new rom from USB-OTG, or odin from download mode.
