I noticed that the headphones that come with the Nexus One have a four pin 3.5mm connector for the inline remote. Does this means the Sennheiser MM50iP headphones (for the iPhone) will work?:

Or actually this adapter from Shure might be better:

Yes, they should work as they're dopod headphones.
and, £30 for a headphone adaptor? madness.......
Yes. I can confirm the Sennheiser MM50iP headphones work perfectly with my Nexus One. As in, everything works, including the mic and button.
Clicking the button on the mic piece plays/pauses music (same as the Play button the included stereo headset). Double clicking the button skips to the next song eek just like the iPhone. Triple clicking to go back does not work.
Clicking the button when a call comes in answers the call and clicking it again mutes the call. Clicking and holding to end calls doesn't work (dunno why, it doesn't work with the included headset either).
Microphone works perfectly, both in calls and in the voice recorder app I downloaded.
I can't believe it myself- it looks as if either Google or HTC designed it to work with iPhone headsets

What's the sound quality like?
I see they're down to £10 now... and my Phillips are getting tired even if they do sound fantastic.

I can confirm that these work. I use them with my UE11's and my Shure SE530s. They work like a dream.

Ten quid? I bought them for £50
Sound quality is excellent. These headphones are bit heavy on bass though. Google for reviews on the CX300 (same headphones just w/o the mic).
For ten pounds you could certainly do worse Get them!
I have a NuForce NE-7M and a Ultimate Ears triple.fi 10vi, which I bought for my iPhone.
The button and mic work perfectly.
The button even works for Play/Pausing the Music, in addition to Call Answer/Cut..
double clicking to skip to next song should also work.
Does the click and hold to end call work for you? It doesn't work on my Nexus with both my Sennheisers and the included stereo headset.
Thanks for the replies everyone.

Doesn't sound very perfect if back and end call doesn't work, but that sounds like enough for me. Think it might be time to order myself a set of these, since the included are grating on my ears.
Hello,
When listening to music -
Does this phone support the wired headset button on newer earbud/headsets to pause and FF to the next song?
thanks in advance
Kevin
I'm using the headset from my Nexus One and it has the play, forward and back buttons and it works great. I like it because I can plug them in and hit play without ever waking the phone

I didn't know Android phones could work with headsets like that. Is it a particular headset or will an iPod compatible headset that has the track & volume controls work? If it's a particular headset, would you give me the MFR & model?

i'm interested in this as well. i have the pair from my nexus, but much prefer apple ones.
Thanks for the response.
I use these earbuds on my captivate -
JBuds J3M Micro Atomic In-Ear Earphones with Microphone (look on amazon or other places to buy...)
They sound great and allow me to stop/ff songs on my captivate with the PowerAmp music player.
Other music players work a little differently but still support pause/FF songs from the switch on the wire, which is a huge benefit and time saver.
good luck
Kevin
These are the same ones they gave me when I bought my Nexus One... they work really well for me!

Im using my Samsung headphones from my Windows phone I traded,
and I all I am able to use is the headphone button underneath the volume control which allows me to make a call to the last entry when I double click it, and when i hold it, it brings up the voice dialer. I swear the other day, I was able to go to the next and previous songs when i hit the volume controls up or down. But now that doesn't seem to be working. The volume buttons never seemed to work with the phone, so I guess its just depends what headphones you have.
Just recently bought a Bluetooth Headset for my Motorcycle Helmet, I'm on ICS right now, SCV7. The problem I'm finding is that no matter which voice commands app I use (Vlingo, utter, Skyvi, Voice Search) I can't seem to get it to use the headset's mic to listen to me!
But whenever I take a call the microphone works just fine. When I go into the headset's bluetooth settings it is connected as both phone and media. I've tried both by themselves but didn't get a change. Phone calls work and music plays, but voice commands just don't.
Anyone have similar issues? Any ideas?
Would this be a hardware issue with the headset? Hardware with the phone? Or Software?
On a side note: Noticed that music effects have been really buggy with the headset.. MusicFX and DSPManager go crazy, make it sound worse than without them, like the speaker is about to explode from all the static. (Tried all Loudness levels, switching songs, and tried all equalizer settings but I can't pin it down, sometimes it'll be exploding ear-screeching sounds but when I open DSPManager it's as if it finally clicks and makes the equalizer work again.. goes away next song)
Hi everyone. I just got an HTC One X on AT&T today from the store. Up until today I had owned an SIII also from AT&T. The music player on the SIII kept freezing and the auto correct wasn't working so I changed to the One X. I listen to music a lot on my phones so I expect the music player to be reliable. Anyway, the music player on the HTC One X is great, however, it's been skipping to the next track without my touching the screen before the current song is finished. I was questioning my sanity because I figured maybe I was bumping the screen, but the player just skipped to the next song a few minutes ago and my hand was nowhere near it. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a way to eliminate it?
Naturally, this is somewhat discouraging as I've only had the phone for a matter of hours. A friend of mine is pressuring me to get an iPhone 5 (blasphemy!) and I'm actually considering getting one since android is clearly not cutting it at the moment. I understand there are other music players on the market but the simple reality of it is that I shouldn't have to download a 3rd party music app, plus, I actually like the stock app.
Thanks for reading!
EDIT: My library is all MP3 files, not an internet radio type thing if it wasn't obvious. The skipping doesn't happen too often, maybe a few times an hour. Beats audio is enabled when this happens, I haven't tried without.
Same Problem!
I have the same problem, when I'm listening to music the voice dialer suddenly pops up and starts dialing numbers from my call history to recent dialed or received numbers. this is so irritating. I installed an app called "headset Blocker" from Google play, it stopped the problem. But my question is why doesn't this phone support other companies earphones? And also whenever I put my headset into it, it displays the symbol of a headphone with mic, is it normal? If not what is the solution to this?

The reply above also raises an interesting point. Are you listening with headphones that have controls? Could you be pressing them, to make the track skip? If they are headphones meant for an iPhone, the buttons may not be doing what you think they should. Or their might be a short in the headset or the headset jack on the phone, that is making the phone think you are pressing the headset button. Have you tried another set of headphones, or listening on the phone's speaker?
Otherwise, try a factory reset, and if that doesn't solve it, swap it for a new one. Its not Android itself, I've never had this problem. Just a hardware or software defect with your particular handset, which can happen on any device, including the iPhone.

What do you mean by "support"? Do you mean, why don't the control buttons work on some headsets? Its because those controls were designed to work for an iPhone. Unfortunately, there aren't many headphones with buttons that work on Android out-of-the-box, but the mic should work fine (as well as the earphone audio, of course).
If you are trying to use a headset designed for the iPhone, and want the buttons to work, try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.chobirich.tools.mediabutton&feature=also_installed

Yes, that is normal. All it means is that headphones are attached. A bit obvious (as in, why do you need an icon to tell you that?). But intentional, nonetheless.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
I am using a pair of Sennheiser headphones, there are no controls on them. I performed a hard reset but the problem persists although less frequently. Do you still think I should exchange it for a new one? Since you brought up software defects, I will add that when I restart the phone or power it off, then back on; when I unlock the screen the dialer is shown instead of the home screen. This only happens during the first unlock, so to speak, after restarting. Of course I just press the Home key to get back to the home screen, but it's still a nuisance.
No controls in my earphone.
No, I'm not using earphones with controls. I'm just using an earphone I got from my previous android phone because the At&t version of HTC One X did NOT come with earphones. But I must say, when I listen to music without the earphones, everything is perfect, but when I insert my earphone the voice dialer keeps popping up, the clarity of music deteriorates, tracks go forward and backward and what not. This is also happening while watching videos using earphones. That is why I asked if this phone supports all standard 3.5mm jack earphones or only HTC earphones.
Just bought Nokia Coloud Pop, and its is not working on my device(A110Q).
When I play music, only background music is being played, the voice is not audible
There a button on the headphone(remote controller), when I press, the voice is also audible along with the music, mean to say, it works fine with the button pressed, else not.
I called Nokia, they said the headphone is only for high end nokia devices.
So what I want to ask is that is there any way out?
are there apps to fix the problem, or any converter?
and out of curiosity, what causes this problem? I've faced this miss match of headphone with mobile phone many times.
Thank you in advance!

I damaged my earphones and tried using samsung's earphones and faced the same issue that u faced. I just applied tape on the mic so that it will always stay pressed and now it works perfectly. That's the best method
use earfones without mic
those works perfectly
Sent from my Micromax A110Q using xda app-developers app
people are suggesting crazy ways! dude, this way you can damage your sound IC, better buy a new headset, it won't cost you above 500 bucks, and will definitely save you the poison of getting your sound IC replaced.
'Jugaad' can sometimes prove drastic!
Thank's note......!!
Thank you very much man for posting this question.
I always had to hold the pin right when ever I heard something from my phone , but after I tried holding the remote button
the audio play's perfectly . Now it's just enough to hold the button without worrying about reseting the pin over and over again....
