Hello every one.
I am looking to get a cheap family android tablet, but are really confused about which one is best for our needs. The main purpose is gaming, Netflix, HBO streaming, comic reading and just browse the net and etc. I lke the fact that some of them has gps, that might be handy when going on vacation, but thats just a maybe.
Other thing is it need to be around 10 inch big and a good hd screen. Hope there is some with ok sound, though i can always use a headset.
Been looking alot on Pipo models but cant really figure out wich is newest or best at this point ?
Or is the Cube U30GT2 better or just very similar to the Pipo ?
Or perhaps there is another alternative i am unaware of ?
Hope this is posted in the right forums, if not then i appolegize in advance for making a newb mistake.
probably best to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229761

So after the past week or so i have done some casual research. Looking thru various sites getting some not so reliable feedback i figured i would just ask at the top.... And i dont know why i didnt in the first place..
I am looking to get a Android Tablet when taxes come. Something not to expensive but not a cheap piece of junk either.
I am looking for something reliable, fast good graphics, a decent camera if possible certianly gps, wifi, bluetooth. I would like to dock it in my car for its Gps potential, and for movies and certianly its music capabilities (like power amp) and pandora last fm ect. I figured i would tether it to my Droid 2, and no i wont be watching movies on it thats more for my wife, friends ect.
I would defenatly want it to have the android market on it, wether i have to put it on there myself or if it was stock. I want to be able to play games like angry bird or whatever. Not just simple low end games but the potentintal to play anything i might want to..
And lastley i would like something that defenatly has some community backbone to it. Something that has been rooted, that people know and i can get reliable support on. I dont want to be running 1.6 on it it has to be like 2.0 or 2.2 and i can upgrade it. Something that runs really smoothly and has at least one decent rom.
I see some of these people who bought cheap tablets off ebay from Hong Kong or whatever and there having to scour the net just to find out what excatly it is called.. I dont really wana do that lol.
If i can find it locally great! If i got to order it off the net then so be it. I just want something that is open, reliale, smooth, fast and has some support behind it...
Sorry if this is the wrong section i looked for a overall tablet form but couldnt find one on XDA and i didnt want to post in every forum. If you have anylinks or even one u are thinking about buying like a link let me know id love to check it out!
Thanks Everyone!
Dude, get a NookColor! $249, supported in ROM Manager, and I'm sure soon to have full ROMs released..
It doesn't have a camera (but your Droid 2 does...) so that might be a deal breaker. It's not a tablet, it's an e-reader, but it's a neat little thing. I can't wait to see the development take off.
Other than that, the Motorola Xoom looks promising, but it's currently unreleased.

I would recommend the nook Color as well except for the fact that it is lacking a GPS. Therefore it does not fit into the car model. I have one for my son and it is a nice device.
The gps is kind of a nessisity for me, i could give up the camera but im stuck with the gps. But the nook or nook color is out for me. I see it as lacking later on because of its processor and it wasent built to be a tablet. I want something that will ride out for a few years if possible. It needs a 1 ghz prosessor and sufficent ram. And i got to have 2.2+ on it. And 7 inch minumum. Thank you for the suggestion thus far though
Consider the Archos 101 or 70.
Pretty sure it has everything.
There is a forum for it here too.
as far as I know no tablet meets your demands ( 1ghz/2.2/lotso ram/etc) probably best shot at the moment is a flytouch II from lightinthebox ...
10", decent rom support coming together, inbuilt gps, 2 cardslots for storage, android 2.1 with kernel 2.6.32.9 once you upgrade/update it to v1568 firmware.
another OEM provider promised 2.2 was going to be out last weekend but havent seen anything filtering out as of yet

Actually, Archos already has 2.2 with 1ghz
http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_101it/specs.html?country=ca&lang=en
The RAM is not listed on that page but it would be easy to find out.
I'm just stepping out.
And there seems to be a GPS solution here http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37910
Sry... what I meant was I want to run the most uptodate firmware I can so im kosher with 2.1 what im hoping to avoid is where I have seen a lot of them running 1.6. I've been thinking about archos but I just haven't heardb from anyone who ones a archos or a flytouch.. I would defenatly like to hear experiences... thanks again everyone

Also and i forgot to mention it.. It has to have a Capacitive and Multitouch screen like my Droid X or Droid 2.... Does that FlyTouch have that? cause i cant seem to find any information pertaining to that.
no flytouch2 is not multitouch but otherwise i am more than happy with mine, best €130 ish i've ever spent
I know it's a huge disappointment that HTC didn't put in a HDMI port, something that didn't bother me until recently.
I know for a fact that DLNA works great for streaming videos and photos taken on my phone to my TV, even on CM7.
I also just recently saw those youtube videos of guys using their Evo 4gs as their desktop, and wondered if there was a way for this to be accomplished on our phones. I was mainly thinking there was some way to work some magic over DLNA, and then bluetooth speakers, mouse and keyboard for the rest.
Anyone know if this is possible at all or even semi possible?
(I tried to search before posting but the search was down)
I'm also looking for an answer to this
I would like to see some idea on this too. I guess we're in the minority.
I agree as well, this is something I would be interested in. I remember when I bought my previous phone (nokia 5800 XM). I was quite excited about it's video out function, only to find it's composite analog video out to be wanting.
When I was trying to decide between inspire and the Atrix, a big deciding point for me was the untested nature of the dual core, and so far I like the results of my choice, the 2nd gen snapdragon has plenty of ooomph to play my highly compressed x264 mkvs and the battery is somewhat reasonable, however the screen mirroring is something I would really be interested in, surely with the gpu/cpu combo in place some kind of solution could be put into place, it doesn't take that much bandwidth to push a 2d desktop worth of images, especially with modern network speeds.
Here's hoping!
I am really hoping for a way to do this too. That new crackle app would be a lot nicer if I could watch it on my tv.

I was searching for it too, but no luck.... Hope someone gets hands on this
I'm also looking for a way to mirror the screen of my sony tablet S to the TV set - via dlna?
would be cool to hear from someone with dlna related developement experience.
They say it's not even possible to make a screenshot on android without root permissions. (no, please dont start a discussion about screenshots now, explaining how wrong I am
Dude, I think you've got the wrong section, this is the INSPIRE 4G SECTION.
hope someone posts a tutorial
no matter what section. the problem is the same on all dlna capable devices.

Hi all XDA'rs,
Im looking to purchase my first android tablet but would like some help from my fellow forum users.
Im looking to spend a max of £150.
I have no definite requirements other than it have reasonable processor and ram(not lag) and be very customisable e.g themes, custom roms etc,
Can anyone point me towards some good deals??
Much appreciated,
Daniel Lowery
Bump! Bump! Bump!
there's really nothing any good under $200.
Cheapest tablets that aren't a POC are the IdeaPad A1 (Lenovo) and the Nook Color. Both are 7", medium-powered, but capable of running flash, ect jsut fine. Nook color does REQUIRE rooting/ROMing to be useful, but its really easy to do, pretty fun actually, and you can get a beautiful cyanogenmod for it. A1 is harder to find, but has dual cameras, GPS, better out-of-the-box functionality.
Expect to pay at least a hundred more for a 10".something like this
Hi all,
I am looking at getting a tablet for Christmas this year and have my eyes on the Infinity TF700T. I am very new to the tablet market and am still green. I was considering the Nexus 10 but that is out because I live in Ireland and it's not available. I am looking to definitely go with Android as I am a Java developer and would love the opportunity to build apps with a language I know.
I have only really looked into the Inifinity and Nexus due to the increased screen resolution and performance and haven't really considered anything else, but I would consider other tablets if recommended.
I am looking for a tablet that will allow me to:
- Watch movies in good quality
- Surf the web with good performance
- Game with good performance
- Email etc
- Allow the possibility of custom firmware to run linux distros and the like.
- Develop killer apps!
- Possible bluetooth comms with Lego Mindstorm
- Not crash all the time.
I have read a number of reviews for both Nexus and TF700 and know that each has their own issues but when looking at user opinions of the TF700 I have seen nothing but bad reports. Crashes, slow IO, performance issues when browsing, screens peeling off etc....
That's why I am here. To ask the guys that actually use the TF700 are these concerns real? Is it a case of a few bad batches or are they all a bit poor? Is slow IO browsing etc a feature of Android or is it hardware? Are newer TF700's better quality?
I am ready to buy today but am held back by these concerns. I would be indebted if anyone could help me out.
Again, I could go the round about route of using a UK relative to get me a Nexus but just out of principal and a liking for Asus, I thought I'd give it a chance.
Ps the best deal I can find is the 64GB with dock for €679. Seems steep but all other places I have looked have it for €700 - 900!
Thanks a million.
Really?!

Another post just popped up in here begging advice.
Here's another place to look for user experience with the TF700T:

Im looking for a good alternative for my Dad to watch streaming movies/tv from his room
Hes not greatly tech savvy. I like the ideas of the MK808 but to find any concise information is hard it seems.
How easy is it to get working from a phone, meaning using his smart phone to control and be able to type from his phone?
Will he be able to use the full website version of Hulu Plus?
How hard is it to flash a new ROM? I see Finless mentioned a lot, Im assuming this is probably the best rom for the type of device?
He will probably only really use it for watching netflix and hulu, maybe the occasional web search.
Now if I were to get one for me however, how well does it handle uhhh lets say "adult situations" I just got a Note 3, how will it stack up?
Any info would be great, what experiences do you guys have personally with android sticks?
+1
