Wifi calling - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the boost mobile version and it has been updated to the latest software which I'm told should have wifi calling. There is nothing in the settings nor is there an app. When I do an s search for it, there is a wifi calling setting but when I click on it, it doesn't do anything. Anyone know how I can get it working?

You really aren't missing much. Mine barely works and I have excellent WiFi connection. I keep getting an activation error now whenever I enable it.

I found the APK for it, downloaded it, phone says it is installed but no Icon or anything shows, cannot find it in the phone

I would try going to sprint.com and login. Then click on manage this device and click on change on service add ons in drop down menus. On that next page there should be choice to enable wifi calling. If it is not there I would call sprint to push this so it shows up there.
Edit: Even after the icon for wifi calling was in my apps it would not enable for awhile. After about another 30 minutes when I clicked on it it opened and asked to register my wifi location and then was active. You need to register each new wifi connection to enable wifi calling there. However once it is learned you do not have to keep doing that.

Control Your App Permissions Natively (no root)
Thanks to Android 4.3, it is possible to control app permissions natively. In other words, root access is no longer necessary, nor is xPrivacy & Xposed.

However, because Samsung's Touch Wiz doesn't launch "activities", it's impossible to access this function without an app, which you can download off Google Play for free.

Good to know, thanks.
There is also a setting for all apps under 'Data Usage' in settings that allows you to restrict access to Mobile Data. Combining these two gives you almost complete control over apps. The only aspect still missing (without Root) is WiFi data access.

Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Ed
Just bought new galaxy note 10.1, but app ops doesn't seem to work on it. I used the app mentioned above but it just took me to settings. can someone verify this? also is there any other way to restrict app permissions without root? some devs/apps want hardware control to take photos and video that have nothing to do with the app itself. thanks much

Hi tominator, I just got wise to AppOps and it works in my GS4 but the same thing is happening to me on my Note 10.1 2014 Ed.
And now EFF reports that Google didn't want us to access it anyway. Guess it's time to reinstall Permissions Denied.

This must be old news to you by now, but the same thing happened to me with the 2014 Edition. Have you found a way to do it? Thanks.

Me too, I'm searching for the same for my SM-P601. Tried all Google play applications, none of them worked at all.
If someone finds a way or workaround, please, post.
Thx.
Excellent app. I've just enjoyed switching off camera permissions for a lot of apps.
nice find:laugh::good::good:
Sorry for the noob question.. The meaning of on means it block the permissions or allowing it to access the permissions?

What about Native Tethering for T-Mobile?

I've seen a bunch of threads on enabling native tethering for VZW/ATT/Sprint, but none for T-Mobile. Any advice on how to enable native tethering for us TMO folks?
I would be very interested as well.

Looking for a mod to the entitlementservice.apk. they have this mod in this section for att and vzw, but nothing specifically for tmo.

Again I am probably missing something but they need mod because tethering doesn't work. On T-Mobile tethering works with out any mods.....at least on my phone.

I am guessing because you don't have unlimited data, or you have been grandfathered in from an older data plan (which I was). Tmo switched my plan to unl when I upgraded to my previous phone 2 years ago. I was getting it fine when I was limited to 5gb, but when they "upgraded' my plan the last time, I lost the free hot spot option. For those who fall under this category, we now get greeted with the attached image. There has been similar hot spot blocking on ATT and VZW, but there are also workarounds in this section for them. I cannot find any that work for TMo clients in this scenario. My previous phone was a GS3 running CM 10.2. AOSP ROMs do not have the carrier check, so I was able to use this without issue for the last 2 years. Switching to XT1053 with stock ROM now causes this problem.

interesting, i recently switched to unlimited data and my tether works fine.
edit: looks like it didnt switch thats why i have tether
What unlimited plan do you have? I have the new one (simple choice i think) and I can tether fine. I've never actually gone beyond the 2.5gb limit, so I don't know if that's why you're getting the message.
I used to be able to tether on non-Kit-Kat on my Nexus 4. I switched to the Moto X running 4.4 and I am now unable to tether. I keep hitting a T-Mobile upsell page.

The T-Mobile framework-res.apk/res/values/arrays.xml doesn't have a value set for the config_mobile_hotspot_provision_app property. I was having trouble building framework-res but your thread provided the solution (deleting values-mcc-310-mnc-1; the other directory you said to delete wasn't in my framework-res). Thanks!
My last hope is the single reference to pcweb under framework-res/res/values-mcc310-mnc260/strings.xml. I swapped it for fast but my first attempt at replacing framework-res.apk failed--I need to recheck my steps and make sure I did the resigning and everything correctly. Hopefully I'll have some more time to do this tonight.

[HOW TO] Fox-Fi on 4.4.2

For those of you wanting to exploit your Data plan for WiFi, Tether, Bluetooth, this app is Confirmed working for the S5 with 4.4.2 with NO ROOT NEEDED.
1. Download the app from the Play Store for FREE.
2. Buy the Key for it ($7.95).
3. Turn on the app, make sure the Key is recognized.
4. Turn on the WiFi.
5. ONE TIME PASSWORD set-up, (unless you delete permissions after each use for easy unlock screen).
6. Then within 30 seconds, you must click over to the Integrated WiFi/Tether area of 'Other networks' and click the WiFi there to turn it on.
App, Key, Recognize, WiFi, 1 time PW, 30 sec integrated WiFi enable. Done.
If you want to change the name and security of the WiFi Hot-spot you will be creating, do so before you activate, otherwise you must restart program and process.
Quick demo and proof that it does work on the Galaxy S5
Just want to warn/give a heads up to anyone who downloads to use this, you give yourself up permission to 3rd parties to your email, internet, apps, and other things on your phone. You actually get a pop up telling you that..not really worth that risk in my book for something I only used once in a blue moon on my S4

@Dennisg34, have you seen the number of Installed 3rd party Certs that are on this phone from the Box?
He's right, if you are permission paranoid, be wary. If you want to have WiFi/Tether on your phone without Root (which I have been using this app for years with no issue) then you are safe to buy/use this app...

Yeah that's there, but I think you still need the WiFi calling app that comes with it to enter your address information (unless that's changed).
So how you get there ?
I don't have that anywhere
Install this program from play store

Look for wifi calling
Then in here

Proxy Error under Mobile Data

I was experience Err_Proxy_Connection_Failed error in chrome and no connection in some other apps while some of apps still connects to Internet when using mobile data.
I know it's gonna be an APN setting issue but everything looks good on the first look (I'm using AT&T)
However after further investigation I found all the ones that should be "not set" are set to plain text "none", which, of course, the system cannot connect to with url "none"
After I removed the fields, it back working. So I think could be a config parsing issue and I filed a bug on Huawei's forum
Also I had issue with Microsoft Authenticator which I posted the root cause and resolution here

Hello, just wrote a Chinese reply to you in your post, but it didn't show up. I want to ask you what version of the phone? Do you have an LTE network at att? I want to buy one for the TMobile network, I am afraid that the Chinese version is not compatible with the TMobile lte network, also can you use those Google apps?
