Hello, chaps! So, I've just got a XT925 and, basically, what I want is to get to CM11. I'm used to CM features and I'm sure this little beast runs even better on KK than it does on stock JB
I was looking for guides and stickies to read through, but there isn't much, really... Why is that? I need help rooting, unlocking the bootloader, flashing recovery and the ROM itself, but I'm far from a complete noob and the guides are enough for me, but I can't find them Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, I've got a couple questions about CM11 I'm planning to run the 3.0 kernel CM11 version until KK OTA shows up and I'll see where to go from there. How good is the CM11 on RAZR HD? Is there a list of known bugs? And does the HDMI port work? I find it to be a cool feature, although I don't use it often... Would be nice if it works on CM11, too. And the camera, how's it on CM11? I love the 60fps video recordings and hope that photo quality is at least the same, because it really isn't too great on stock JB :/ Using 3rd party camera apps helps to a degree...
Any help, info and answers would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance!

Completely missed it... A great post, love it! Question about bootloader unlocking, though - there's the motocalypse way and there's the official way? Or is the official method not available anymore? Any reason why one is better than the other?
And the questions about CM11 remain :

The official BL unlock is still available as far as I know, but its not available for all phones. You basically have to try it to know if it will work.
I think the official way is reversible, it has always been said motopocalypse is not. Those facts may be wrong though. There was discussion about it in one of the threads but I don't recall exactly what was stated. If you don't care about ever locking it back, it wouldn't be relevant then.
About cm, I still have my rmhd but haven't used it other than for testing since last year. So I can't provide any current help on that, sorry.

Just go to the Motorola web site and look for the unlocking program and attempt it there. Here is the link: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
You'll have to either sign in with your Google+ ID or register an account with Motorola. It's free and then you can attempt to unlock your phone.
The XT925's are always unlockable since they are not in the US. It's Verizon that won't allow it and the XT926s are US phones.
Okay, guys, I've ran into some problems :/
Current status: bootloader loads fine, CWM (6.0.4.4, touch version) loads fine, but the system wouldn't boot after making a backup. I've tried flashing CM11 (cm-11-20140710-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960-epinter.zip which is supposedly with the 3.0 kernel) and it still will not boot. (I've wiped /system /data and /cache before flashing) All it does is sit at the "Warning bootloader unlocked" screen and it doesn't even become warm...
What I've done: basically, followed all the steps from the thread @bweN diorD posted. Rooted with MotoChopper, unlocked bl with MotoPocalypse and flashed CWM via adb. That was all fine. Then I noticed that CWM keeps disappearing, so I said yes when it asked me if I want it to remove that script from the stock ROM . It also asked "Fix root?" at the same time to which I said yes... Since then the system will not boot. Does anyone know what's gone wrong and what can I do to fix it? Is RSD the only way now?
@bweN diorD @iBolski and everybody else... pretty please :/
*EDIT* Got my stock firmware and flashed it via RSD-lite. Had to remove that check in the xml, but that was it, it has come back to life
Now what puzzles me... Why did the system die after saying yes to "remove the recovery remover script" and "fix root"? And why was CM11 dead on boot, too? Any ideas? :/
*EDIT #2* Nevermind, I'm on CM11 now Rooted again, the bl was still unlocked, installed latest PhilZ recovery and flashed CM11 straight up without even booting stock ROM after installing recovery. All is well! CM11 is so smooth on the R HD that I came a little bit. I loved my petite DEFY+ but this is freaking awesome!
glad you got it worked out
Drivers issue
Guys, I've now got a freaking drivers issue I cannot resolve... Need assistance
I am currently on CM11, on the jbbl. Last time I flashed an sbf was at the time of my previous post in this thread, so 5 months ago. Since then, I have changed my system drive (to an SSD, yay!) and lost the drivers set-up. Back then I was on Win7 x64, now I'm on Win8.1 x64.
At the moment, I cannot get ADB to work (it lists my device, but says it's offline) and cannot get RSD Lite (it's v6.1.6) to detect the phone when in fastboot. I'm attaching a screenshot of device manager's current status. The mot composite adb interface driver is fine, but the two in other devices remain question marks.
Motorola Device Manager (2.4.5) just looks for updates for my device and then quits after finding none. No matter if the phone is connected or not. Not sure if it's incompatible with win8.1 or just normal behaviour since my phone's not on the stock rom.
Does anyone know the right steps for setting up ADB and Fastboot drivers on win8.1 for our device? MTP works fine, no problems there.
*EDIT* Tried using [TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer and ADB connects now, but RSD lite still doesn't detect the phone in fastboot. The device manager list looks the same... I hate driver issues >_< And just to be clear, RSD lite does not show anything while the phone is connect as MTP with debugging enabled, too.
*EDIT 2* All fine now. Just uninstalled everything and started from scratch. Drivers that come with Moto Manager are the only requirement.

Hi i did go to Xperia Developer thread but it said i can only ask questions in General forums.
So here i am i really need help, i rooted my Xperia Arc and almost nothing is working, i can't turn on the Wifi, mobil network works for a second then the phone shuts down mobil netorks, keypad, etc.
When i start my phone i get: unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped, when i try doing something else i get alot of "unfortunately" messages. please help.
I followed every instruction for rooting i have the 2.6.32.9- DooMKernel, almost all apps are gone and the superuser app have 0 apps in it.
Hi zobar,
There are General & Q&A forums for the Xperia Arc and you'll get users there with the same device, whereas this is a general forum for anything to do with any phone, regardless of make/model/os.
Do some reading in both the General & Q&A sections in this forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=962
If you can't find an answer then start a thread in the Q&A forum, as that's where all questions should be posted. The only place you can't currently post are development forums, but they're only for releasing development work anyway.
Hope you get your problem sorted
Try rebooting

Straightforward answer
Before a more experienced member rightfully closes this thread I will try to help you.
Download flashtool. A simple google search will sort that out.
Install it. The program will have a picture of a lightning bolt as its logo.
Find the stock firmware for your device. Search for that in google.
After downloading the firmware you should see it has a .ftf at the end.
Go into computer then flashtool then firmware. then drag and drop the .ftf into that folder.
Close the folder.
connect your arc.
Open the flashtool program.
Click the bolt icon in the top left.
select the name of the firmware you downloaded in the left panel. it will highlight blue.
Click ok (bottom right).
A box will appear telling you to put your device into flash mode. Follow the instructions it gives.
Once this is done the box will dissapear and firmware will flash.
Finally device will reboot and phone will be back to normal.
Hope it works for you. :good: Please thank me with the button if you appreciate my efforts. Please post in more appropriate places in future and someone will answer quicker. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted.

Thanks alot im going to try it out but, wil that make my phone normal? not root anymore?... if so that kinda sucks, i wish to have a rooted phone.
yes it will make it 'normal'. From there I suggest following a youtube tutorial about rooting properly. This way you will avoid bricking your device again.

DO you have any good new karnels? or any guides please? i followed one and bricked it so maybe the guide i used was bad? :S

Did my unbrick guide work? SO your device is ok now? I hope so.
Here is a mini guide about phone terms. Sorry if you know this already.
Rooting is simply giving your phone administrators rights. No roms or anything. Once rooted you could install clockworkmod which would allow you to install a rom that would work on you STOCK kernel (the one that comes with xperia).
A kernel is a set of instructions to a phone. different kernels or custom kernels (not stock) enable you to flash some more advanced roms as not all roms will work on STOCK kernel.
Also, in most cases, different kernels allow overclock and undervolt. These things allow you to make your device run faster.
Unlocking your bootloader is required to install a custom kernel. Unlocking a bootloader can be difficult and if done wrong, can brick your device completely.(make it useless like a brick) This is why I did not do it until a few days ago - because I was scared.
If I was to recommend a rom, I would say cyanogenmod (cm for short). They focus on getting the galaxy nexus android - pure version.
You flash kernels with flashtool. But you MUST have an unlocked bootloader to do this.
If your device is fixed now i would say google cyanogen mod 9(ice cream sandwich) or 10 (jelly bean). CM10 is less stable (not everything works) than cm9. but cm10 is more fun. make sure you look at guides for your device and not any random one.
Sorry for the lecture. Thank if you found this useful. I appreciate it. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted.

Hi almost everything worked out in the end just one problem left, the mobile network after rooting it tunring on and off like its droping the signal and after min it regains it, its a constant loop with network off and on.
Try switching on airplane mode and then switching off. This will restart your phone's radio and may fix this. Otherwise I am not sure. Great to hear it all went well

I have found a root method now.
you use Poot-debug.apk and Ministro II.apk
I didn't see any guides for rooting/flashing roms for the motorola photon q. Is it easy? I am used to using odin for my Epic 4G. I want to be sure before I use my upgrade with Sprint, thanks.
So instead of Odin, you use RSD Lite and 'FXZ' files.
[05-08-2013] Photon Q FXZ
As for how to root, [CWM] 6.0.1.0 and how to root covers that nicely.
However, that version of CWM is a bit old, and won't flash KitKat ROM's - so go thru the unlock bootloader process and flash OpenRecovery or TWRP:
[recovery] TWRP 2.6.3.1
[25-11-2013] Photon Q Open Recovery 2.09

You use Odin on a Samsung phone with a TAR file to return it to stock / unbrick.
You use RSD on a Motorola phone with a FXZ file to do the same.
CM usually releases their stable version when the next big Android version is released or is coming near. Thus, CM11 Stable is expected to be out in May~July (when the 4.4 cycle ends and Google announces next Android version + next Nexus devices).

I said "instead of Odin"... I thought that would clue you in.
RSD Lite is like Odin. The FXZ files are complete stock backups - recovery, system, boot, everything completely stock. So yea, it's your way out if you do manage to do something wrong, or if you simply want to go back to a completely stock setup (again, including recovery).
CM11 is already pretty 'stable' although it's still in the "nightly" phase. I don't work for CM, nor do I dictate when they do their releases.
thanks for this

Thank you for those details. I haven't heard anything of Sprint releasing any more androids with qwerty keyboards. Maybe I should order one soon. I want Cyanogen Mod on it though. Are there any other Cyanogen Mod stable versions out now for the Photon Q? I've tried the 10.2 links but get an error. I've never had to unlock a bootloader before. Some of the possible results seem concerning. I don't want to ruin the phone.

Thanks for the update on RSD Lite. I didn't see RSD Lite in your links though. Maybe I missed it. Would you mind shooting me the link? I found RSDLite5.6.rar here on XDA. Is RDSLite5.6.rar the best to use to flash a Cyanogenmod ROM?

You still didn't get it... RSD is for getting back to stock. To flash a custom ROM you would have to load a custom recovery via fastboot. And to actually use fastboot you need an unlocked bootloader. If you don't see a "WARNING - BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED" message when you power on your phone, yours is NOT unlocked and it's necessary to unlock it before you proceed.
As for continued CM support, one particular good thing about Photon Q is that it uses a Qualcomm MSM8960 CPU which is strongly supported by Qualcomm (and maybe Google - most current Nexus devices use them). Basically, this means we can get newer CM builds faster than those with obsolete CPUs, like Epic 4G's Samsung S5PC110 (I once had an Epic 4G too!).

I think instead of universal drivers like that, maybe you should go seek drivers specific drivers for Motorola phones or just for our model. I remembered installing a Motorola-specific driver before I could even do fastboot.
Of course I could be wrong - waiting on someone to proof or disproof that.

Photon Q can initially be hard to deal with, but things will become very easy after you unlocked your bootloader. My Photon Q was bought unlocked so I don't know how to unlock it myself - just search it out - but after unlocking, just go to fastboot mode, flash in a custom recovery and you're ready to go for any custom ROMs you want. We have CM11, Carbon, many nice ROMs to try out. Personally, I always go for CM for the familiar layout/feeling.

I have to find out how to unlock it. Is fastboot mode on the Photon Q kind of like download mode on the Epic?
How do you unlock the bootloader? Is that what the ADT-bundle is for?

Different.
Photon Q also have a download mode, where you can use RSDLite to flash FXZ files, similar to how you use Odin to flash TAR files for Epic 4G.

Dunno. I reckon ADT bundle gets you the fastboot drivers.

I got my Photon Q today in the mail, but I haven't activated it yet. I need to know how to unlock it first. Would someone please tell me how to unlock it? Can you brick the phone by making a mistake during the unlocking process?
just google "photon q bootloader unlock". there are some nice guides

Is the one I used. I don't think you can brick the phone attempting this, assuming you follow the directions. The only thing people seem to complain about is the code not working properly to unlock - copy/paste works best.

I opened the Android SDK Manager twice and the updates that it did said " failed to fetch" some files, then said that it was successful anyway. Does that mean that it downloaded what it needed and it is ok?

First a few disclaimers to explain why I'm here.
- My secondary intention with this question is finding some answer as generic as possible to also help other people. Of course my primary intention is fixing my own issue, but the biggest part of it from what I can tell in the past 8 hours have been finding ROM files. All links are broken, except for 4.1.2 and none of those worked for me. In fact, they bricked my phone pretty hard.
- I'm on a mac. It's a nightmare finding tools for the mac, but I doubt any of them would really be any use for my case, one reason why I didn't even bother going for a windows vm. Another one is I'm traumatised by installing and running VMs. Finally this is for the challenge and learning a bit more.
- I've being trying to fix this through lots of research in the past 8 hours and I do know a few bits about going around and doing things (so sad this guide had no repercussion so far). But clearly, I'm dumb enough to brick my phone twice with no backups. At least could figure it out the first time (I had more time in hands as well). Please consider this. This means I've tried a lot of stuff you may wanted to advise, but it also mean I may have missed something obvious in the middle.
Okay...
By "bricked" I mean:
1. I can't go through the same process I did before to flash any CM image. CWM won't flash CM11 and CM12 recovery complains my bootloader isn't 4.4.
2. Both CWM and twrp recoveries should allow touch. None work, so I an't use twrp.
3. Battery keeps getting low and I've got no clue how to charge it to full again or even see how much it is at without installing twrp, which keeps getting uninstalled randomly at reboots, despite all of this topic about a solution. `fastboot getvar battery-voltage` doesn't show it. The mac script (which I was about to write myself based on op) also doesn't seem to help. In my case, I've removed the `./fastboot` because I've got it on my shell path.
I believe (1) happened, as I said on the disclaimer, right after I've flashed one of those 4.1.2 ROMs. By "flashed" I mean running the BAT file which mostly works on mac. ECHO of course wouldn't show the messages of progress there, but all fastboot commands do run.
And I also believe if only I could find 4.4 stock ROM files they might work or, at least, bring bootloader back to where it was so I could install CM12 again. And as far as I could notice without having Windows to try, no windows tool would really help here. That RSD Lite for instance, looks like it's just a GUI to run fastboot commands.
Above ALL
I just wanted to find a ROM stock file which I could fastboot flash into xt925 to reset it as hard as possible from zero and that the link will probably not break in the future for whoever may need it.
I figured THIS shouldn't be too hard to find, even for mac only, but it has been.
PS: Being able to fix the battery thing is also very important and quite a relevant follow up on the question! Right now I'm stuck with a ROM file that might work, but got no battery to try! ( 10 hours debugging now... )
only one stock kitkat rom for XT925 ! i'll upload this for you !
You know, if this works I'll have to, at least, go through some of your 187 posts and find a dozen or so to thank you way more than once!
I've now downloaded [this one](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63163078&postcount=6), which [he also posted again later on](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63272842&postcount=2), hoping it will do it! If it does, I'll try to upload in this post, as it looks like XDA hosted files last for much longer than anything else.
Only problem for flashing anything now is I can't seem to get enough battery!
I've been using Gnabo v_7 version for quite a long time, and a very simple and beautiful day when I woke up my Samsung GT-N8000 was stuck on bootscreen. I wasn't able to do much so I got this "Brazil stock rom" that I found in a website, and it flashed all right, except for the detail that there is something at the screen that I haven't got a bloody clue how to remove. hahaha
And still, whenever I try to install another room, I got stuck at bootlogo and so on. I'm kinda lost here, mind a little help?
I traveled around the forum but well, I'm a little dumb so I couldn't find any proper information about, how to solve this. I would like to know if there is a way to remove this thing from the main screen, and post here the image for you guys to see it please.
I tried to post the image here to make it easier understanding, but since I got this login recently I can't =\
Thanks
Install custom recovery (if you haven't already. If you already have it installed, make sure to update to latest version), root device, wipe everything and flash custom ROM.

So far I've tried the rom = N8000XXUDNE4 [still bootloop], then another 4.1 android version of other German rom XXALGA and nothing. Downloaded 3 Brazilian versions, and nothing. [I am from Brazil]. The only one that worked flashing using Odin was one called "KIES_HOME_N8000UBALGA_N8000ZTOALG3_N8000UBLG5.tar". And still, not recognizing my cellphone chip, and with some big watermark at the middle of the screen showing some information about the ROM and the version is 4.0. Even though this one worked fine, I was able to root and when I tried to flash another room, BANG! Bootloop again! =\
I was looking at the forum topics and I read some about ADB or something like that can fix this and "break" this bootloop making the device work normally again with the roms. But i haven't got a clue how to use it. Please help me! =\

You can use ADB to push/pull files to Android. I don't know if you can use it to fix bootloop. With it, you can also reboot to recovery and sideload zip

Well, after 2 days of research and paying attention on things here, I found out that my problem is "/EFS error". Meaning to use ADB to recover or fix it? But I don't know how to use this. I've downloaded 3GB of it but I was lost about using, and uninstalled. Is is there any short or better version and some good tutorial about using to retrieve my EFS so I can install another roms? I'm using original stock rom now, Brazilian android 4.0 and that's the only only the device is working fine but of course missing things as my cellphone card and the yellow message at the top of the screen. Please guide me through ADB.
P.s Is there a way to create /efs or something like so the device work properly? Cause I've deleted when I installed some rom, and I have no backup here. =\
Thanks!

Here is tutorial about how to install ADB and Fastboot drivers and use them. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use it to restore efs. Sorry.
Hi everybody ! Ill try to keep it simple as I'm sure its covered somewhere but here goes ....
Ive been using my shield portable, rooted, for ages now no problems.
Like many Ive updated it in short ever since nothing whatsoever has worked properly , most annoyingly the screen doing backflips when you go near it and hundreds endless strange updates when rebooting.
Anyway I don't think you or I or any of us want to waste time trying to figure out why its done any of this but I just want to be able to fix it. I guess I'm going to have to start again somehow! its worth noting here that all my backup apps like Helium now don't seem to work.
After the update I of course ReRooted and it appears fine from boot loader , still says unlocked. but upon usage its clearly very confused about whether its rooted or not !
In short its useless. Advice please My kung Fu warriors
May your arrows fly straight and true
I have no idea about the various issues, but I would perform a factory reset, and clear cache and dalvik cache using at least 3 swipes per each function. The method of rooting I recommend is by flashing a zip of SuperSU from a custom recovery menu. CWM or TWRP are both available for the NSP. After flashing SuperSU, when you reboot and go into SuperSu you'll see that it's installed (locked down tighter) as a system app.
Downloads:
SuperSU (latest stable version) v2.65
CWM Recovery Menu (latest version) v6.0.4.4
TWRP (Modified recovery (based on TWRP v2.8.7.0)
Sorry. This is the best I can offer you right now. If this doesn't work I would reflash the stock images of whatever OTA you wanna be on. The images can be found @:
SHIELD Open Source Resources and Drivers. You'll need at least the platform-tools portion of the Android SDK (to use Fastboot to flash from recovery). A user friendly PC app that can basically do all this sort of stuff is Shield Ram v1.1. You might find that easier to use.
Oh and here's the latest Minimal ADB and Fastboot Drivers installer [v1.3.1]
If you need further help, let me know.
Hi ! Thanks for the good advice.
I should have mentioned, I'm using a Mac now.
From what I understand it's still possible , maybe
Even easier.....
Sorry to throw a spanner in your super helpful works !
Thanks again

Yeah, pretty much the rule is generally "as long as you can still see the screen, it's probably fixable". Sounds to me like your best bet, would be to download the OTA you wanna be on, and flash a new install to your Shield. It's the quickest way from A-B. I'm about 99% sure that this would solve the problem (as long as you re-root it properly). Though if you have your reasons, you can try some of the other things first. You're welcome and let me know how things go!
So where does one get the latest OTA?
cheers

I did link up the main Nvidia page that would lead to the OTA images, but here's a direct link to DL just the OTAs:
Edit: you can get there through the link I included in my previous post: SHIELD Open Source Resources and Drivers. I'm having issues with editing posts, and all sorts of odd **** with the link trying to post a more direct link. It's an Nvidia site, just scroll down to Shield Portable Recovery OS Images (something like that).
Unfortunately there are only Linux and Windows downloads available. I'm not sure what your best option would be, as you have a Mac. You could contact Nvidia support, and see what they say about it. Sorry, but I don't think I can probably help much more than this. When I contacted Nvidia support about a year ago, they were pretty helpful. Hopefully you get this sorted soon. Oh and the OTAs are flashed via a terminal/command prompt. So if you can emulate DOS on your Mac (which I don't see why not...DOSbox? maybe) then that sounds to me like the solution.
Ok , hit another brick wall. Im using a windows computer now, followed all the instructions i can find, and now the bootloader seems dysfunctional.
Ive got adb and fastboot and its recognising the device but once rebooted into bootloader which loads fine, the commands say no device found and nothing works in this mode.
If i hit recovery mode then a little dead android appears! poor little guy.
I tried shield ram but it had same problems, seems to run fine but cant find shield once its in bootloader...
Ive got the image zip of the update i want to flash but no idea if im doing it right- not sure how to use it.
Help!
