[Q] Android 4.4.4 Google Wallet Tap & Pay payments don't work - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all,
I have Google Wallet Tap & Pay set up and selected under the settings, despite this nothing really happens when I try to make payments using this. I am on Android 4.4.4 (CM11 Nightly, and Carbon before this), NFC was on and I've tried this at several locations by now.
Before when Tap & Pay didn't work on Verizon I never even got the option to set it up, and but I was under the impression that it did work now. How do I get it to work?
Thanks !!

The issue is that Google does not support custom roms, with KitKat they stopped doing so. I have the same issue you have I am running ATT S3 and the version of wallet my phone is allowed to download is wallet V2.0-r163-v1--release. After talking to Wallet support they said my phone was suppose to have Wallet v.2.0-r172-v6. My guess is that even though my current version allows you to set up tap and pay, it at the same time does not turn on the NFC feature for wallet to recognize the credit card terminal. The NFC is suppose to be used as the triggering device to tell the HCE to listen for transaction information. HCE is software based so it has no hardware to tell it when to process, so it needs NFC to tell it to do so.
Please can someone share wallet v2.0-R172-v6 I would like to try loading it directly to see if that may work.

I have the same version (v18 rather than v1 though)
This is an interesting bit of information, I wonder if the same version works for vzw.

Thanks for the heads up I too have received the update listed above yesterday but have not tried it yet. I will post results later today. I have had broken hope so many times now I think I would **** in my pants if it did work.
Also just a note the update has brought back gift cards in which they removed for a while. The UI is also more streamlined.
Please if this update works for anyone please post.
Thanks..

I just confirmed that new release Google Wallet Update v2.0-R172-v18-RELEASE does not work at check out. Terminal is not recognized. This is clearly a CM 11 issue. I am running AT&T S3 there is a factory update for my phone that is compatible with google wallet. my guess is that CM is slacking on the S3 as they combined multiple phone to one release and stable version as of yet coming upon a year now, snapshots and nightlies only.
CyanogenMod please fix Google Wallet HCE support for S3 ATT! NFC is not detecting HCE transaction.

Hi, this problem isn't related to Android or Google Wallet version. There is carrier and device restrictions:

Alright, so I downloaded Google wallet, and did not get any notification that tap and pay is enabled/usable. I am running Carbon ROM 4.4 nightly. Any ideas as to a workaround, or do I have to wait for it to be implemented?
Incompatible hardware I think

I recall reading somewhere that the Google Wallet app isn't compatible with the NFC chip in the Skyrocket. I know it sounds weird but read chenxiaolong's comment in this article:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-even-those-running-unofficial-kitkat-builds/
He mentions Wallet only works with Broadcom NFC chips. This is slightly old though so maybe support has been added or will be added in the future.

Google Wallet no longer supporting android below 4.4

I received an email for google stating that Tap and Pay will no longer be supported in versions of Android older than 4.4. Below is the email.
I hadn't heard anything about this, does anyone have any more information?
Do you know if I keep the same version of the app I have currently, which works, if there will be issues?
Email:
Dear _____,
We wanted to let you know about an update to Google Wallet that might change the way you use the app. Right now it looks like you’re using tap and pay with a device running an Android version older than 4.4 KitKat. On the newest version of Android, tap and pay works with different technology for an improved experience. As a result, starting on April 14, 2014, tap and pay will no longer work for devices with older Android versions.
Tap and pay will be available for most devices running Android 4.4 KitKat. If you are able to upgrade to KitKat now, you can check if your device supports tap and pay. Supported devices will display a tile in your "My Wallet" screen that tells you to set up tap and pay. For devices that are not eligible for Android 4.4 KitKat or don’t support tap and pay, you can still use the Google Wallet app to store all of your loyalty cards and offers, send money to your friends, view your orders, and use the Google Wallet Card to make purchases.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for continuing to be a loyal Wallet user.
If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center.
Sincerely,
The Google Wallet Team

Android Pay and Custom ROM

Anyone get Android Pay and Custom ROM working on their rooted and customized Nexus 5 ?
Here are the steps I took in order to add cards and get Android Pay functioning on my phone:
- Get the Google Pay APK from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-pay/android-pay-1-0-102576552-android-apk-download/
- You'll also need an upgrade for Google Play Services, I was not able to get it through Apple Pay, I had to get it from here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-8-1-14-2244331-238-android-apk-download/
NOTE: have to install Google Play Services that ends in 238 for the N5
Then do the following steps:
- Install Android Pay
- Install Google Play Services
- Clear Data for Android Pay
- Go into SuperSU and unroot
- setup Android Pay
- re-root using SuperSU
So this allowed me to add/manage cards in Android Pay - but some users are getting an error such as:
"MASTERCARD-XXXX can't be used with Android Pay right now " when trying to pay with their phone.
The other item I noted is that after verifying my credit card with the issuing bank - it took several hours (>8) before I received official confirmation that the card was made available for mobile payment.
I'm guessing that it may take a while before the cards are 'activated for mobile payment?
Anyone able to use Android Pay to make a payment on their N5 (rooted, Custom ROM) ?
Note: I'm running on Cataclysm and HellsCore Kernel.
I just received email confirmation from my bank that my card had been added. I did receive verbal confirmation the day I added it, but maybe it takes a few days. The problem now is that I had removed my card and re-added it this morning, before that initial email confirmation came through. Now I don't know if I need to wait for another email confirmation before trying again.
The process worked for me, but I haven't yet tried to make a payment. One note on the steps (although this is probably understood by most who would be going through the process): For re-rooting SuperSU, you may want to clarify this is done by re-installing SuperSU in recovery.

I'm getting that those links are broken/don't work.......
EDIT: I've had the 'Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped' constantly with any iteration of the Google Play Services update I've downloaded. I just dl'd the 'universal' version 240 from the XDA Developers posting , everything else has worked fine but I'm still getting the service stop error. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this message to stop? When I go to Manage Apps, there's no option to clear data/uninstall updates, only clear cache and disable (and I don't want to disable it, for sure.)

Nexus 5 requires either Play services -230 or -238, not -240

I fixed the links - but if they fail again - just goto http://www.apkmirror.com/ and find the latest android pay and latest google play services (ending in 238) apks - and use those.
Pure Nexus Project, tried the steps in OP as well as trying exposed modules to hide root. I also tried using bootunlocker to lock the BL and change the tamper flag to stock. Still no luck.

Yeah, Nexus 5. I'll have to try 230, nothing else has worked so far. 240 was supposed to be a 'universal' GPServices.....I see a commenter above posted something about a new Xposed module, maybe have to give that a shot, too.
EDIT: Looks like v.238 was the trick, no Google Play Services errors so far. Now I just have to test out Android Pay somewhere.
Does anyone know if you have to somehow choose between Android Pay and Google Wallet when using NFC payment at a terminal?

Glad you got it set. FYI, for Nexus 5 the -230 Play services is universal DPI.
I'm pretty sure at the pos terminal you'll only be able to use Android Pay. It has completely assumed all duties of the old Wallet. If you have a Google Wallet physical card you can add it as an option for Pay, but otherwise Wallet is now just for p2p transactions (like PayPal).

I just noticed that the old Google Wallet app was auto-removed at some point from my phone (I had both for a while), now I've just got Android Pay and Google Wallet, so that makes complete sense.
FWIW, when I tried adding my Google Wallet card to Android Pay, I initially got the 'you can't use this on your phone'/root error; just unrooted through SU, added the card, re-rooted, no message. I just have to test it out on a POS terminal somewhere and see how it flies.

Not working at POS
Finally had an opportunity to use Android Pay at a Whole Foods POS.
Touched my phone to the card reader - and Android Pay popped up - with my default credit card.
Then - I got the dreaded: "Visa-xxxx can't work with Android Pay right now" message.
Seems this is a common issue - so it looks like we'll have to wait a bit for this to work.
I'll continue to try it at places that accept Android Pay - and will update accordingly.
NOTE: one thing was apparent... for me the experience of using my phone to pay - is no better an experience (probably more clunky) - than merely swiping my credit card - which I can probably get out of my pocket and swipe, faster than getting out my phone, unlocking it and positioning it on the reader.
Perhaps the security promises with Android Pay will trump a mag stripe card... but from a user experience standpoint... not that great.

Are you rooted, hence the 'didn't work' problem, or it's just plain not working right now?
Yeah, I've putzed around with the original Google Wallet/NFC payment a few times and I found the same thing was true: it's about as much hassle, maybe even more, as using a regular credit or debit card. At least with the cards you know they're going to work, barring some major snafu; with Google Wallet/Android Pay, maybe the place you're at doesn't accept it as payment, maybe the card vendor isn't on-board with Android Pay yet, maybe your phone's rooted and it doesn't work to begin with, etc. I like the idea of having multiple cards available to use with Google Pay, so I can choose which one I want to use at any given time, but I think there's also a lot of barriers to making phone-based payment the default method of payment for people.
EDIT: Well, initial swing and a miss; I had my Google Wallet card set as the default card to use with Android Pay, and got a message saying that the Google Wallet card wasn't able to be used with Android Pay at this time. I was at McDonald's for lunch and if there wasn't a big line behind me I'd have taken time to switch cards and try again, but as it was I froze up and just went with a physical card. I didn't get a 'you're using a rooted phone, you hAxx0rZ!!!! Stop trying to overthrow capitalism and steal Bitcoins, anarchist!!!' error message, at least, so that's a good thing.
Doing more research on this - there seems to be strong evidence that Android Pay won't work on a rooted/custom rom phone.
Lots of speculation as to whether it is related to an unlocked bootloader, root, custom rom, or some combination...
Has anyone tried this on vanilla N5 ?
I'm using stock and I have play services 238 the latest one and Android pay still says "Google play services have stopped" what do I do?
Here's a thought: maybe it's a server-side activation, and that's why it doesn't work for rooted users who temporarily disable superuser when attempting to add a card?
That's the only thing I can think to explain why some users are able to unroot and flip the switch, while others can't

Android Pay FYI/ALERT

All,
As you know Andorid Pay is being pushed out, and replacing Wallet. What everyone might not know is that Android Pay will NOT allow you to ADD cards while rooted. Also, once cards are added and tap and pay is used , there is a ggood chance you will get a message that says something like "Visa-xxxx can't work with Android Pay right now" message.
When attempting to go back to Wallet from TIBu it was still trying to use Android Pay in the NFC settings as well
I would like to share some tricks I discovered on how to add you cards to a custom ROM/rooted device and if your cards do not work on NFC to get Wallet working again
1) go to your SU app and under SU settings UN-TICK Enable Super User
2) install Android Pay from the Pay store
3) add your cards ( they should be carried over from Wallet)
4) Re-enable Super User in the SU app setting
You do not have to enable the device manager and you WILL have to set up lock screen PIN
Now IF your card(s) DO NOT work then you might try using your google wallet card that you can have them send you ( have not added mine as I dont have it at work ) and see if you can make tap and pay purchases with that card.
If you just want to go back to wallet you must Uninstall tap and pay AND delete /data/data/com.google.android.gms I rebooted but might not have to, and then restored the original Wallet from TiBu and everything should work fine, at least for me.
Just went to the vending machine and tested.. worked.
Hopefully this helps some people and saves them some frustration.
Best Regards
UPDATE: 9-22-2015
Just successfully added my Google wallet Credit card ( well prepay ) to Andorid pay and it says that I can't use that card to pay!
WTF GOOGLE! YOU ARE GETTING TO BE USELESS!
To Anyone thinking of switching to Android Pay, DON'T, keep using wallet , it just works!
I couldn't get Pay to work on Adrenaline 2.4. Tried all kinds of suggestions. Still get, "Android Pay cannot be used. Google is unable to verify that your device or the software running on it is Android compatible"
Andorid Pay works with SuperSU 1.71
Android pay currently works with the beta version of SuperSU 1.71
I added my card without error and successfully used it at the vending machine twice at the office.
You must set a lock screen up on your device however.
Still not working for me. Must have something to do with the SuperSU version I'm using (SuperSU Free v2.65).

Yes you did. But I've also seen various (imposters?) versions of SuperSU floating around before. I wasn't going to speculate on the reason for the large difference in versions mentioned. But it is a moot point, so I digress...

Motorola XT2125-4 EdgeS Help needed

Hi,
I purchased a new phone a Motorola Edge S (hardware SKU XT2125-4), unfortunately it is a China ROM phone which means it didn't come with Google play store. This was side loaded and I am able to install apps from google. But I have SO many issues with this and I am hoping someone has something helpful to actually use this phone
1. When I try to use Google setup a nearby device (to transfer everything over to this phone), it simply can't find my new phone (despite having bluetooth and location on for both phones
2. I can't restore contacts from google drive even though I can connect
3. I downloaded the MAGISK app, however the file browser is unable to install as the app is not allowed. The toggle to trust the app can not be changed.
I am at a loss as to how to actually use this phone as essentially it's useless at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.
It is already running Android Version 11
Baseband version M55_HI20_209.334.01.60R NIO_PVT_SUPERSDS_CUST
Kernel Version 4.19.136-perf+
Build Number RRN31.Q1-20-17-6
I can provide any / all other information if needed
If the solution is to root the phone, I'm ok with that too, but see point 3.
I'm in the same situation. Purchased the XT2125 as well. Got the Google stuff working by side loading the play store, services and framework. However, initially, while everything else was working, the contacts wouldn't sync. After a few hours of searching, finally came across an article which said that I also needed to side load an apk called google contacts sync and give it permission. Contacts started syncing after that. Fast forward a couple of days and a system update later, SMS are delivered with really long delays and outbound ones fail. Google maps crashes constantly and navigation just doesn't work. I don't know what to do with this phone now honestly, since I need Google maps navigation on a regular basis. Have tried reinstalling maps, resetting permissions, clearing cache and data but nothing seems to work. And with the SMS delay, I can't sign on our complete transactions on a lot of apps because the SMS usually arrives after such a delay that the code has expired. Feels like such a waste of money this phone even though it's supposed to be great bang for the buck.
I am hopeful that when they release the Moto G100 (same phone actually), that we will be able to flash it with this ROM to make it usable.

Yeah, I think it's being released in a couple of days. Anyway, I did a factory reset and the maps issues sorted out. Had to go through the pain of sideloading google again but the device is being shown as google play certified, but yeah, would be nice to just have the international rom on it.
Were you able to make any headway with your device? I didn't put a sim in mine but the rest of it seems to be working ok, except Youtube Vanced isn't signing in with a google account.
