[Q] Battery dead or just drained? - HTC One Mini

Hey folks,
I'm sitting here with a very stylish paperweight. Can't charge it. No LED, not even the blinking red one. Just nothing.
Here is what happened:
My phone started to get pretty hot, so I decided to turn it off, just for safety. It had around 90% battery left at this time. When I turned it back on an hour later, the battery percentage was at about 18-19%. I used the phone as usual. No strange behavior, no sign of malfunction. After using it for quite a bit, the phone shut down as expected. The battery percentage fell in an usual matter. It went off normally.
Now, when I try to charge it, it doesn't seem to show any vital signs.
Here is what I tried:
- charging it for 2 hours with HTC Wallcharger, also tried out 2 other chargers
- Power + VOL UP
- Power + VOL DOWN
- both with a bright light pointed at the sensor
Still nothing. Connecting it to PC won't do anything good atm.
Is the battery dead, or is it just terribly drained? Did I even manage to fry the MB? Is there anything I could do?
Turning it in for warranty repair won't be an option, since it's (you guessed it) rooted and therefore unlocked. I flashed CM11 nightly about a week ago, had Codename Lungo before.
This is quite a bummer. I hope, you good people might be able to help me.
Thanks in advance,
MightyToph

Battery question. Dieing when powered off

Ok I have searched and not found anything like this yet so I am going to ask. I know the phone has battery problems all around for a lot of people. Mine seems to be fine when it is on. It can sit and idle powered on all day locked and stay at full charge. It runs about 10 hours with minimal use and maybe 8 hours with some data use and a few calls and texts. Now I am experiencing a wired problem. When I go to work we cannot have cell phones. I leave my phone in my locker and power it off. After my 12 hour shift is up at work I come back to the phone with a dead battery? What could be causing this? And has anyone else noticed this issue?
defective battery? pull the battery and see if it still does it. If it does, gotta be a defective battery.. if it doesn't do it when pulled, you're not shutting off the phone maybe?
Yesterday I tried leaving the battery out. I took the battery out and let it sit 12 hours and it still had full charge when I put it back in. When I go to work I long press on the power/lock button and choose Power off then I watch it shut down and it just dies before I come back. I wish I could watch it the whole time. Today I left the phone off for around 6 hours and came back and it was fine though. Maybe it gets turned on some how at work. I have no idea. Or when I go to power it on it is just the issue where the phone isn't reading battery % correctly and it just says 0%
Seems like a battery driver issue or a defective battery? definitely call t-mobile and check if it's the battery. I've had some issues as well, but not that bad.
Weird.
So the phone powers off after you turn the screen on and it won't come back on? Try putting the phone in airplane mode.
Also, I'm assuming you are running the stock roms?
Might also want to check into a battery monitor to see if any 1 thing is pulling it down.
I think it might just be the battery driver. Sounds like the phone is in suspend so it doesn't power off properly until the screen is turned on and is revived, updating the battery % status, seeing 0%, and turning off.
CM7 fixed the wonky battery issue a few nights ago. Right now, I think a current CM based rom is the best bet as it has most of the drivers fixed. I'ved used mine pretty heavily today, unplugged at 8am and I just got a 15% battery warning at 11:30pm. It will usually last until I go to bed at midnight but I might want to play with it some more.

[Q] Is my phone dead? :(

1. The phone won't turn on
2. The charging indicator doesn't light up when I try to charge the battery.
3. One of the sensors on the top left turns dim red in color when I connect the charging cable
4. I can't hard reset either
thanks
Did the battery die all the way? Or did you flash a radio without checking the md5? If its a borked radio install say hello to a 500 dollar paper weight if its the battery your gonna have to charge it in another phone cause I'm not sure if cwm 5.0.2.7 has powered off charging

Yes we need a couple of info first. Also we need every information we can get in the last events before the phone got bricked. Like what did you do? what ROM? What's the status of the phone? Battery?
The more the details the better we could assist you.
Sounds like when my first Mytouch 3g broke, it would turn on the first couple of times going into a bootlope at the HBoot. It also didnt respond to charging or any other battery i tried.
Thanks for the reply strapped. I haven't flashed a radio. I did flash the virtuous infinity rom though. I'm not certain if that affected the radio. I did, however, let my battery die all the way. Do you know why one the sensors on the top left corner turns dim red when I connect the charging cable?

Oh crap the battery die all the way problem
I think your battery is dead.s
Saw dozens of problems like this on the my previous device's forum.
Li Ion batteries have this fuse inside it in which it trips off when the battery gets discharged to a certain voltage. If it does your battery goes into a suicide mode in order to protect the phone.
basically the best thing to take good care of your battery is not let it drain lower than 40% and not fully charge it to 90%.
discharging it too low drains it's lifespan drastically. While charging it too high also drains it's lifespan.
Over-discharging Lithium-ion
Li-ion should never be discharged too low, and there are several safeguards to prevent this from happening. The equipment cuts off when the battery discharges to about 3.0V/cell, stopping the current flow. If the discharge continues to about 2.70V/cell or lower, the battery’s protection circuit puts the battery into a sleep mode. This renders the pack unserviceable and a recharge with most chargers is not possible. To prevent a battery from falling asleep, apply a partial charge before a long storage period.
Battery manufacturers ship batteries with a 40 percent charge. The low charge state reduces aging-related stress while allowing some self-discharge during storage. To minimize the current flow for the protection circuit before the battery is sold, advanced Li-ion packs feature a sleep mode that disables the protection circuit until activated by a brief charge or discharge. Once engaged, the battery remains operational and the on state can no longer be switched back to the standby mode.
Do not recharge lithium-ion if a cell has stayed at or below 1.5V for more than a week. Copper shunts may have formed inside the cells that can lead to a partial or total electrical short. If recharged, the cells might become unstable, causing excessive heat or showing other anomalies. Li-ion packs that have been under stress are more sensitive to mechanical abuse, such as vibration, dropping and exposure to heat.

maybe you guys should read this.

Cheers guys. Here's every bit of information I can recollect
A few days ago I created a nandroid backup and formatted my sd card via the PC.
I flashed the latest version of CWM recovery
I flashed the virtuous infinity rom 1.33 alpha v3 and then flashed the 1.35 beta 1 update.
Then i copied some music on to the SD card and installed a couple of apps.... nothing out of the ordinary.
The phone worked fine the last couple of days but I don't remember letting the battery die all the way. I should add that I have a dodgy battery; a couple of months ago my dear girlfriend spilled her drink and beer went in to back of my phone... since then the keyboard doesn't work (some keys work but its basically dead) and the battery has been affected as well since it now only lasts 3-4 hours after a full charge....but this issue can't have caused the problem I'm now having because the dead keyboard and dodgy battery have been around for a few months...
Last night, however, I think I let the battery die all the way and at some point, when I tried to turn it on, the phone vibrated as it does when you hold the power button, however, the screen didn't turn on. Since then, nothing has changed. When I connect the phone to the PC, it makes a couple of "connection" noises but I can't access the SD card or contents.
by saying latest CWM is it the 6.0 touch based CWM by chance?
sorry mate, i meant 5..0.2.7.
That's the CWM I'm using so it's safe. I'm also on latest VI for weeks without problem.
So it all points out to your battery.
Phone vibrating to power button means it's responding perfectly. Not sure about the light on the sensor only htc technician can tell.
But what I can say is if your trackpad button lights out red always then you got a brick on your hand.
Nope the trackpad isn't red so I guess that's a good sign. I've ordered a new battery and should have it later this week. Let's see if that fixes the issue. Will report back. Thanks all!
So, a new battery has arrived, however, it hasn't helped as the phone won't charge (no orange light) or turn on...... Since I live in Australia, I don't know anyone else with this phone. Is there any other way for me to revive my brick of a phone?? Thanks

Get a universal charger for your battery.
Sent from Spaceball One.
This is a rough situation. Even with my DS I've had situations where nothing would happen when I tried to restart it, in particular when I let the system run all the way down. It is as if the battery needs to have some charge for it to charge more. I have three batteries though (the stock & two Anker 1900's) so when this happens I just swap out the battery with one that I charged in the external charger, and I haven't had any real issues with them long-term. Since you bought a battery, what battery was it, and do you think it was charged when you got it, and do you have an external charger to verify that the charge is solid when you put it back in the phone? Your phone may be completely dead however, but at this point, I don't think anybody on the thread really can tell. This make sense? I don't want to say, "buy a set of Anker 1900's with an external charger" but it was cheap enough vs. the cost of the phone, and the DS does seem to be a good one overall.
Hi All,
So I got an external charger for the battery and it arrived yesterday. I then proceeded to charge the battery and hours later, no luck. The phone still doesn't turn on. When I hit the power button, one of the sensors on the top left turns red slightly, shortly after which the phone vibrates. However, it doesn't turn on.
Where do I go from here?
Thanks
have you tried to disassemble your phone at all? you said liquid was spilled in it, could take time for corrosion to turn up. maybe a little electronic parts cleaner or rubbing alcohol may help out
Nope I haven't tried to disassemble it yet but is that the only option remaining? If yes, I might have to give it a go because this phone is now as useful to me as a brick, in its current state.

Stuck at 0% of battery, difficulties to boot

My phone is stuck to 0% of battery, no matter how much i charge it, it still remain at 0%.
It doesn't show up the battery charge icon, even if it's off, but the charging works because i feel the phone and the charger warm, but the led of charging doesn't show up even if the icon of the battery in navbar changes.
I already tried i clean flash, and now i flashed the last factory image, but the problem isn't gone.
There's another problem, when i shut down or i reboot the phone, it seems to die. It doesn't power up, but after some attempts keeping the power button pressed for much seconds, it finally turns on. Same for fastboot mode.
How did i arrive to this situation? I was running los14, i installed substratum, i applied 4 or 5 themes and there was no problem, till when i had a bootloop. So, i went in recovery and flashed the rom to fix the problem, but when i pressed "reboot", the phone shut down and died, and problems are begun.
One years ago i changed the battery, i still have the old one, should i try to change the battery?
Yes, try a different battery to see if that helps.
I changed battery but nothing seems changed.
It's really strange, the phone runs well anyway, i'm writing with it right now..
It's like the phone can't reach battery status. There's no app that is able to get info from battery.
Actually, something changed; when the phone is off and i plug it in charge, it shows a battery with a question mark
Sounds like the battery charging circuit

(ELECTRICIANS) Is it possible that my battery lost its voltage and doesn't work...?

So, long story short, i was using my wi-fi to download something and than suddenly i saw I had 1% battery. I run to the charger, but my mom called me, so I totally forgot about that. I was talking like 5 mins whitout problems, than my phone died. I didn't thinked about anything, went to the charger, and plugged it, but NO LED and no sign of life. I thought i just need to wait, but even after 2 weeks, it's still dead. I had custom rom which maybe didn't had protection or something.
So my question is, is it possible that my battery got "de-volted", or lost it's functional voltage (like what my phone need) and that's why my phone is dead right now ? No led activity, doesn't start, RARELYYYY!!!!! after like 3-4 days (it entered in the first day to 9008 mode on my laptop, tried qfil but didn't helped, than never worked, than I tried at my home at PC, worked for some hours, then died again, and I never tried since than)., it is heating up when charging tho (idk if battery or CPU), and IT'S ONLY VIBRATING when it's plugged and I press all 3 buttons(also the CPU is getting really warm)
tldr. my phone discharged extremely, maybe lost its voltage. WOuld adding more voltage to it fix it ?

Project Z3 Charge/battery issue

Long story short trying to fix an old z3 for mates daughter to be able to use. Wouldn't turn on, red light charge only. Clearly xperia infamous battery drain issue. Tested the battery at 2.6v......bin. Funnily companion was showing device is on, unlock to proceed but it clearly wasn't on.
New battery in, but fiddling before hand I noticed red charge light when no battery so assume that light means dead or no battery. New battery in and get no lights at all. Have checked and its at 3.6v......surely this would be sufficient to start the phone anyway? At least briefly? Disconnect tit or put old battery back in I get red light again. New battery nothing.
Using the yellow button or power+volume up it does vibrate so the battery is working to some degree. If 3.6v is still insuffieicnt to even get a flash from the screen should I assume charge circuit on new battery is dead?
