I have been breaking my head since a while on this...the WIFI wont turn "on" on my handset...it does sometimes..but thats like 1 in a 50 attempts. I tried various ROMS as well stock ROM V2,V3, & flying sparrow etc...nothing helps. Not sure what else I can do. Also tried few tools like WIFI FIxer etc, but the issue remains the same..
Any pointers?

For no apparent reason, my phone won't connect to wifi. Says ERROR on wireless connections. It's a rooted device. Tried different roms. Same error.
Anyone?
have you tried a different router or wifi location?
If you have your phone rooted try flashing a diffrent kernel to see if that fixes the problem
he said he tried different roms....
I am also seeing something similar. Running stock froyo ROM with Overstock kernel. What I've noticed is that this doesn't seem to happen when the phone is first booted. After running for a while, the wifi toggle just stops working; resulting in the "Error" status as mentioned by OP.
The only ways around it is to:
a) Reboot, or
b) Use the 'airplane' mode toggle to switch to airplane mode and back, and the wifi toggle works again.
If there was a simple solution around it, that would be great.
I got excited when I saw your airplane mode idea... But it didn't work! Will try a different colonel
Have a look at this thred
I had much the same problem and followed the advice in this thread.

Mine does this whenever I arrive home. If I come to work the WiFi connects right up. But when I get home, the WiFi doesn't connect and shows "error" in the settings.
Going to/from airplane mode worked on my first Captivate (1007 running Paragon RC6 ROM), but it doesn't work on my new Captivate (1101, rooted, stock Froyo). The only thing that works for me is rebooting the phone.
Wifi Fix
Use FXR Wifi Fix app. Worked for me.
Ya sometimes it's just a hotspot acting funny...
I just upgraded my Droid X to Liquid 3.2 (full SBF to 602, ota'd to 605, rooted, then flash to Liquid). I love the ROM, but it appears that my wifi and GPS are now broken. Wifi tries to turn on but then turns back off after a second or two; GPS won't even attempt to come on. Anyone know a fix for this?
Edit: I rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and Dalvik cache, and tried again. Now the GPS appears to be working, and the wifi stays on. However, when I try to connect to my home network, it drops off after a second or two (once it connects, it keeps scanning, and then it disconnects). I logged into my router and saw that my phone was briefly hitting it, but all the router log showed was the transfer of an IP address, nothing useful for troubleshooting. Does anyone know of a log file on the phone somewhere that might indicate why it keeps dropping off of my wireless network (yes, I've double checked the password, and yes, the wireless network is functional right now).
I'm out of guesses at this point, so I'm hoping someone else can help me out.
Hm. It gets curiouser and curiouser...
I've been tinkering throughout the day, and if there is any generalization I can make, it's that between wifi, GPS, and airplane mode, one of them (occasionally two, but never all three) will work at any given time, but every time I reboot a different combination starts working. Go figure.
Help anyone?
you got same problem i got. let me know what you figure out. I will post if i figure it out
I could not figure out wifi, so I went to vortex. I like the liquid but the wifi is a big problem and I did not have a lot of time to mess with it right now. I may by another droid x just to mess with things of this nature. If anyone comes up with wifi solution please post.
So, before rooting, my One X had great Wifi connection. No issues. Now that I'm rooted, I can't connect to wifi to save my life. I tried the wifi fix (not the ROM, but the 3 files instead) and still nothing.
I've tried turning off Mobile Network while wifi was on, turning mobile network on while wifi was on, tried restarting the wifi....
I cannot get a connection to the Store, browsers won't open webpages, it's essentially done for. Yet every other device in my house can access the router just fine (and it's not just here, it's elsewhere.)
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this short of flashing the new ROM (which I can't do from my house since the HTC drivers always fail to install.)
Have you tried running fix permissions to see if there's some sort of error holding things up? The only other thing I could think to do is to do a factory restore of the phone, unfortunately...
Hi guys...
after installing the android L developer preview on my Nexus 5 i can't activate the wifi anymore...
back to stock...... unlock.... wipe dalvik and cache..... no luck....
the wifi don't work anymore.... stuck on wifi activation..........
Please help me.... i don't know what to try.....
thank you
I have the exact same problem. VERY frustrating. No idea what happened.
[Q] Stuck on WiFi Turning on
Hello,
I've seen this issue with various phones and various fixes... But I don't want to Hi-Jack anyone or anything. Anyway, I tried the dev build of "L" at one point... and my WiFi randomly stopped working. I thought "welp, it's a dev build... not gonna sweat it" and went back to stock 4.4.4... flashed back to factory, no dice. It seemed to turn on long enough during the setup process to "connect" but it disappeared when I rebooted to go to ART. Thought, welp, no experimental anything. Flashed back to factory, no WiFi. Not even during setup. Tried the various things I've seen around... obviously various factory resets, tried rooting and renaming wpa_supplicant.conf, flashed paranoid android because someone said that's the only thing that worked... it didn't. I do notice the kernel seems to be the same for PA and 4.4.4, so I could try another kernel, but have no idea which to try. After I put TWRP on, I cleared every cache, etc I could. Flashed back to stock after clearing system and no dice, tried running wifi fixer, tried installing macman... nothing. I did see someone say if the phone gets too hot, the WiFi chipset can come off, but the WiFi chip-set is the same as Bluetooth, and that's having no problems. I appreciate any suggestions, I really want this to work out. Otherwise I have a year with a phone with no WiFi... To kind of clarify (re-reading, I see I wasn't too clear about the actual problem), the WiFi toggle switch is set to "Off" and where your networks would display it shows "Turning on WiFi". This isn't just one network acting up, and this has been going on for a couple of weeks.
Edited to add: when I unlocked the bootloader today, the setup process showed me my networks but settings froze when I put the password in... so the hardware seems to be connected...

I've been scouring the internet for solutions and honestly I find I rarely ever have to ask questions but looks like this time I need to put one up here.
I'm suspecting that my phone's wi-fi chip is pretty much bricked.
I get a situation some people have had here before where when I turn on the wi-fi, it kind of stays there and then turns back off, so never turning on. For some people this happened to here I understand it was the wi-fi only and the bluetooth still worked - but in my situation however the bluetooth is acting the same way. I'm aware that the Wi-Fi and BT chip are the same on the XT925 so it would seem like a hardware issue.
The "MAC address" setting in Wi-Fi > Advanced shows "unavailable". But get this: when I go to About > Phone status, "Wi-FI Mac Address" is also showing as "Unavailable". Indicating the chip may have fried or something.
I have literally no idea how this happened. I was kind of sitting down outside a Starbucks in Namba, Osaka when my wi-fi was suddenly no longer able to connect to anything. Been 14 days since. Wi-fi is pretty much essential for me to be able to use this phone at all since I'm out-of-country and I don't have an active 3G/data plan (not that a Canadian modem RAZR would work on Japanese airwaves anyway).
I'm on a Canadian XT925 and was running GZR Validus 6.0 (4.4 KitKat), but the problem persists no matter ROM what I put on - even CM12 Lollipop - and through factory resets, etc. Even when my system is pretty much black and freshly installed, wi-fi and bluetooth won't turn on. Any thoughts, possible solutions? I've tried numerous solutions from deleting/replacing numerous files and even preparing "Wi-fi rescue zips" with files from other ROMs to no avail. On another forum, a whole bunch of RAZR HD users were having this precise issue on the stock ROM and solved it by deleting this flashlight app (weird, right?). Ofc I don't have any such flashlight app on my device.
If anyone knows where exactly the wi-fi chip is on the motherboard (or is it a separate component connecting to the mobo, that maybe got dislodged) I can open up the phone and have a look.
