Wanted to ask you guy what you think is the best way to install twrp recovery on our nexus 5. Or if you think cwm is best.

Because you don't need the app and I've seen people brick their device using it.

1. Download TWRP latest image which is 2.7.1.1 right now.
2. Place in same directory as fastboot
3. Fastboot Flash recovery nameoffile.IMG

If you install fastboot correctly you don't need to put recovery in same directory.

Haha yeah I don't have my Linux rig running well so I downloaded the SDK yesterday on Windows and had to settle for a half-install haha.
I like the 15 second installer for windows. Pretty good. Does all the environment variables for you too. Can get to it via my signature.

The only thing I'm not getting is where I have to put the file in my computer.
I installed adb with that 15 sec installer.
Can you help a noob out? XD

Boot into the bootloader and then from a command window use
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img where recovery.img is the name of your twrp recovery image

I made it!
Thanks for your help.
Turns out I didn't need it to put it in that folder since I installed adb and fastboot with the 15 sec. program and it added it to my PATH.

He doesn't need to do that. Only people who didn't install fastboot correctly need to do that. He used the installer so the variables are present. He doesn't need to cd to the directory fastboot is in OR put anything he wants to flash in that directory.

Right.
The only thing I did was: in the folder where I had the .img I shift+right click and clicked open command line here, from here I just imputed the text on the cmd.
Did I needed to do that or is it not needed for me?

Hey guys,
It's been a time now, that my Nexus S (9023 Model) doesn't start anymore. But I hope that I can remove the problem.
So the issue is that no boot or recovery img is installed. The device is locked and I tried to unlock it, but the screen freezed everytime I choose "yes". And with no unlock device I can't flash a rom. The only mode I can start is fastboot mode. I haven't got any ideas now to solve the problem.
I hope you can help me

Have you tried flashing the stock (soju) from here ?
going back to a locked factory phone and retrying may do the trick.

Great app but this isn't an official one.
The XDA thread has been closed and there's no update on Google Play for 2 months.
I don't know if jmz still has other projects... Flashify is also a great app to directly flash the img files without a PC.

It doesn't hurt to know all the options and procedures. Actually OP would have already known this if he hadn't used a toolkit to root in the first place

Fastboot flash img
recovery install zip
Flashify flash img
Thanks to all for the help suggestions , but yeah I used a tool kit which means I don't know how to do it manually that's why I asked for the easiest way to update .

It would be good to learn how to do it manually. It's really pretty easy. And you'll know your phone better and know how to do things yourself.

i am in need of some help trying to flash twrp in fastboot flash recovery... i dont know what folder to put it in. it says the same one as firewater however i put firewater on the phone in the data/local/tmp folder because i couldnt find any other way to get it to work. now i am unlocked and s-off but cant flash a recovery or su or any thing. im not a noob to rooting however i feel like a complete dumb a&*, i have been at this for 12 hours now. any help is greatly welcomed am sorry if this was covered on other pages i tried to search however im tired and honestly pissed at my self.

I'm assuming you are a windows machine. Do you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer?
I have Adb installed but I don't think fastboot

fastboot would be important. look in platform-tools
In platform tools it says fastboot but not fastboot.exe

should be fine. likely you have extensions hidden. Easy button is to to put your recovery.img in the platform-tools folder. Shfit-right click and open a command prompt window from that folder then type your fastboot command.

and you've opened a command promp FROM THAT FOLDER by hitting the shift key and right clicking at the same time, and selecting "open command window here"?
also do you get anything by typing fastboot devices when your phone is in fastboot mode?

you can always go the goo manager route and I think flashify would also work.

No. You can't flash system.img file via flashify. It has to be done via fastboot.
So there isn't any way to flash system image directly from the phone ??

Why do you want to flash the system.img via phone? If you're looking to get to stock /system without a computer, then you can download vomer's stock 4.4.4 rom and dirty flash it!

If it has been converted to a zip you can flash it. Which system image are you trying to flash?

1. Change to TWRP
2. Boot into TWRP
3. Open a command window in your adb location and type 'adb shell'
4. Copy a ROM you wish to flash to the adb location and type 'adb push rom.zip /sdcard'
5. Once it completes, install ROM as normal from TWRP
6. Reboot once done
That should work

From Google directly. Either install the Android SDK or just the driver package
Hold the power button for 20 seconds. Or try holding it and them tap on the screen.
This happened to me and I freaked out really bad, but I got mines to wake back up.

You could always install the ROM via fastboot. The fastboot image is on CM's site
