[Q] After 4.4.4 OTA will I be able to root? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I was just wondering will I be able to root my XT1033 after getting 4.4.4 OTA update? My phone is still unrooted and i'm planning to root after the OTA. Please tell me is it possible? if not then is there any other way?

Yes..u can root the phone..!:good:

While you can unlock the bootloader from the Motorola website, you will be able to root it, so you can always root, no matter the Android version (unless Moto decides to go all Samsung on us and change the security system in the bootloader)

there is a way to get root on 4.4. once you have upgraded to 4.4.4 I dont know if you can revert or not. You may want to read this thread, it saved me once.

If your bootloader is locked - no root for 4.4.4 yet, if ever
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery and root.
Cannot downgrade from 4.4.4 and it does not matter if your bootloader locked or unlocked

If you buy an unlock code from china and unlock your phone (please note that during unlocking the bootloader your phone will be reset and wiped, including pictures and other user files) then you can flash custom recovery and root.
Even unlocked and rooted, you will not be able to downgrade - you are stuck on 4.4.4.
For unlocking and flashing custom recovery read this post:

You can't. Even if you downgrade to 4.4.2 your bootloader version will stay on 41.13 (while original bootloader version for 4.4.2 was 41.11). This means that you can't unlock your device even if you downgrade. Try to ask on Motorola forum about 4.4.4 unlocking.
This is weird that everyone is having problems with the 4.4.4 bootloader i got it first try without any problems at all!

[Completed] [Q] android update in rooted nexus 5

Can i install the OTA updates in my rooted nexus without doing unroot? I have android 5.1 ruining in my phone and yesterday I got the OTA update for 5.1.1..... Plz do help me and please do tell me the process if possible....
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. The ota will not work if you're rooted or have made any system changes. You have to be 100% stock. See this which is dedicated to ota on the nexus 5, http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217. Will i Still Get System Updates if i Root my LG G Flex 2 ?

I am planning to root my G flex 2 ...
My doubt is that if i do so Will i still get System Updates or will they discontinue to give updates ....
Please guide me !!!!
OTA updates, sadly, no. You can root and unroot though, there are many threads on the forum. Look for them..

So if i rooted my flex 2 ,how will i know whether a OTA update is available ????
I have a Lenovo Tab ,which i rooted .In that i still get OTA updates ...
Like that why cant i get OTA updates in my g flex 2 ??
Different companies have different policies, for example Sony are quite happy for you to unlock your bootloader (voiding your warranty) and LG Won't allow us to unlock our bootloader. And to be honest I've always found out about new OTA updates on XDA way before my carrier get the update. If getting the latest ROM is such a big issue for you I'd suggest you remove root as I don't see LG changing their policies any time soon. And if your wanting Marshmallow when it comes out you can only root it with an unlocked bootloader at the moment, something we don't have.
According to news, LG will soon release marshmallow update to G Flex 2 .
So, mine is a AT&T model H950 ,running lollipop also rooted.
If I want to install the update what should I do next?
Please explain as I am not a expert,Just a newbie .
Will unrooting help ?
I rooted my phone using Kingoroot which also has a unroot option.

Hello,
You may wait for someone to post a stock firmware file of the update and you could manually flash it using mfastboot from Motorola.
Alternatively, you may visit here Android M OTA for Moto X 2014
You may register for a XDA Account to post and reply in the forum.
