I'm using MX Player on Android 4.2. In settings I have selected resume and the podcast stills always starts at the beginning. Then I tried selecting resume and always ask (about resuming) at start up and that doesn't work either. Thanks

I am using my Samsung Note 10.1 to watch lots of instructional videos; each course is composed of 10-40 video files, stored in folders, subfolders etc
I have tried bunch of video players; they all can play videos ok, but once the device is rebooted I have to do the whole process again (start video player, point it to certain folder, scroll through the files I have seen already etc)
Would anyone suggest an application which could start playing from the last position the player has been stopped at? (i.e. the player should remember it's "state" (playlist, position etc and being able to start playing right away)
As an alternative fix - would it be possible to switch my tablet into "deep-sleep" (hibernation?) mode so it could stay in such mode for a long long time without draining the battery and, once waken up, restore last work session)?
Have you tried MX Player? I don't have a Note 10.1, but I use MX Player on my Note 2 and it always resumes from where I left off no matter what.

how does it do it? As far as I can see, MX Player would higlite folder (and then file inside), but you will still have to navigate all the way to the file in order to start playing
is there a "resume play" button I have missed?
I probably don't really understand what you're asking.

I want video player app to recall exactly - which files it was playing the last time this app has been used - and start playing from the same spot
I want this to happen even after the tablet has been rebooted; I would start player, click "resume" button (or something like that) - and that's it
MX Player does give option in the video you last played of start over or resume after a reboot .
But the player will not open at the last played video after a reboot .
Neither am i aware of any player that does .

This is not a problem for me - I can use the ad supported version.
I'm just mentioning that it happens.
Device Manufacturer & Model : Kogan Agora Smart TV
Android Version : V4.2.1
Rom Info : Build: Konka/full_konka_6369_AP/konka_6369_AP:4.2.1/JOP40D/V2.0.0:userdebug/dev-keys
Detailed Problem Description : When using the pro version of MX Player or nightly build, the TV does not remember the default media player (MX Player) and asks to choose the player again when playing the same filetype.
.
Steps to reproduce the problem :
Load the pro version, play media, select MX Player, select always use MX Player.
It asks to choose the player again when playing the same filetype.
Load the ad version, play media, select MX Player, select always use MX Player.
It remembers that MX Player is the default player and doesn't ask again for that filetype.
When I reload the Pro version - it doesn't remember the selection again.
It's the same with all filetypes.

Yes I am, I've been back and forward between pro and ad supported for different versions and it's repeatable.
I even reset the machine because I thought something was FUBAR.

When i install the Pro version there is only that version on the TV - it doesn't allow two different versions. Is that what you meant?

Uninstall Free version
From Application manager open MX Player Pro info & clear the default (if enabled)
Just try to open anyfile & select mx player pro as always.
Close the video
open the mx player pro app info from application manager & check whether clear defaults button is re enabled again or not.

It's a locked down customised Android - there is no application manager with that feature. Only an install/uninstall manager app. And google play.
When I upgrade the free version then it remembers the default media player and uses MX Player free.
When I load the Pro version then it asks which media player I should use and doesn't remember the choice.
Place a hold on this thread - I've tested again, and instead of loading my saved .XML settings
I configured the changes from a fresh install of V1.7.38 Pro release and it is behaving as it should.
I haven't changed the codec settings and others that I usually alter - but I'll test further and report back.
@ktsamy
Please delete this thread - the issue has not reappeared after configuring MX player manually, without using a saved XML file.
Thanks
My device = Kindle fire HD (1st generation), 7", 16 GB
My OS = Amazon's version of android 4.0.3
Mx player = 1.7.40
I downloaded & installed Mx player (non-neon/froyo version) & the codec that it won't even START without, from the below link
h ttps://sites.go ogle.com/site/mxvpen/download
(The site considers me too "untrustworthy" to post the link, but you can figure out where I downloaded it from anyway.)
I had it's settings set to use HW+ decoding & to use HW decoding if HW+ failed. I used it to play a .mp4 video (480x360, 30fps, approximately 90 minutes long) that I had downloaded from youtube using tubemate. I stopped playing the video after the first 5 minutes to check on something online. After that, I started Mx player again & chose the same video again. Mx player asked if I wanted to start over or to resume. However, I couldn't do ANYTHING! Clicking on either choice didn't work. NOTHING worked at all. I couldn't even get to the kf-hd's list of running apps so that I could close Mx player from there. Even pressing the kf-hd's power button didn't show the kf-hd's "shutdown" option. Luckily, holding it for 10 seconds turned the kf-hd off anyway. After that, I tried several attempts to get Mx player to play that video again. My last attempt went as follows.
1) I turned the kf-hd on.
2) I started Mx player, but I did NOT choose any videos.
3) Instead, I went to the kf-hd's list of running apps & closed Mx player from there.
4) I turned the kf-hd off & then turned it back on again.
5) I started Mx player again, chose the video that I hadn't finished watching, & tried to watch it again, with the EXACT same results as before.
(After that, I uninstalled Mx player, installed Km player, & have since watched the same video without the above problem.)
Anyway, in future versions, to (hopefully) avoid this happening again, I recommend that you should include the option to NOT keep track of whether a video is "unfinished" or not, & to have the decision to "start over" or to "resume" be set by an option in the settings instead. That will (hopefully) avoid the message from having to pop up at all for "unfinished" videos. Also, put in the option somewhere to FORCE Mx player to FORGET if any video is "unfinished" or not, because that's really what causes that message to begin with, & besides, that "feature" is less a convenience than it is a trouble-making annoyance (at best), & it's really none of Mx player's business whether I have "finished" watching a video or not.
Collecting error logs would help, each time you get app freezing.

When playing video through a stream with an initial start point intent, if you pause the stream and either switch screens or let the screen shut off, it resumes back to the initial start point on returned focus. Using Yatse to invoke player and stream.
I have the bug report but am unsure how to attach it.

Can you disable fast seeking on Settings > Player & try again in HW+ or SW? HW decoder always starts in nearest key frame. But, HW+ & SW can be started in exact location instead of nearest key frame.

I was about to post a bug report for this same issue. with the new version of Yatse when it starts a video it disables the resume in MX Player in favor of using resume points from yatse/kodi. I spoke with the developer of Yatse and he advised that it is a bug in MX Player as the cause of the issue after the hand off. See below
Tolriq:
It's tied to how Yatse start Mx Player, but the bug is 100% in Mx Player. Yatse now support VLC and many other players, I won't break them to fix an Mx Player issue.
me:
Any info on the bug I could use to submit to MX Player support?
Tolriq
Well just that on resume instead of normal resuming they reuse the full starting intent.
You can send them to me if needed [email protected] This issue would be the same if you resume a video from Yatse. It would resume at the correct point, when you screen off screen on Mx Player instead of continuing would restart from previously asked resume point when it should not.
I have Similar issues with yaste ?

My device is on android 7.0 and since last two beta updates from playstore, MX disappeared from the player list when I try to play the network stream.
It still shows up when playing the video stored in the device, but not when the video is a network stream.
This issue happens with v.1.10.12 and 1.10.13 so I installed 1.10.9 and it works now.
Hopefully this issue will be fixed in the next version.
Same here. Android 7.1.1

There weren't any changes in this regard. If you meant that MX Player is not listed while opening video links on Chrome, it is an internal change on the Chrome. It uses it's own mediaplayer instead of asking you to select the activity (or app) to handle the link. If it is not supported, it directly starts downloading the file. Similarly, some other social apps (like Whatsapp, Telegram) has started using the same in the recent time. Since we do not have any controls on their app, we are also helpless on this

Hmm I don't think it's the change on the chrome. All the other players such as vlc, kodi and all the other player kind apps installed on my phone still show up, and even MX player v.1.10.9 working fine. Only MX player v.1.10.12 and 1.10.13 disappeared. ( i've just updated to 1.10.15 to see if there's any difference but unfortunately this version doesn't show up on the list either.)
And I was not trying to open the stream link on chrome. It was a kind of cloud app(no recent update) and have been using it with no issues until v.1.10.12.

That's strange.
Kindly make sure that "Play media links" in the settings > general is enabled in MX Player.
If it is already enabled, Can you pls share more information with us like the name of the cloud app, version, device details, etc? We will try to reproduce it in our end and get it fixed for you.

MX Player fails to recognize intent from other apps
Hi, I am an Android developer and I have been using MX player as a video player for my app for 3 years now. My app has HLS links that I pass to MX Player via intent. But since the last two updates, MX player has stopped recognizing that intent, and ActivityNotFoundException is thrown in my app. I have around 10 million app users and most of them rely on MX player to play HLS links from my app. Please look into this matter at the earliest. Hoping to hear from you soon. Here is the code I have used in my app to launch MX player:
Code:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setPackage(getMXPlayerPackage(context)); //here i check which package mx player is installed (paid or free) and then return the corresponding package
intent.setDataAndType(Uri.parse(uri), "video/*");
startActivity(intent);
