It is now necessary to solder on two resistors to be able to flash win8.1 bios properly without the HDMI/Screen bug. This is why Onda has delayed the Win8.1 update as they were probably trying to find a way to do so without a hardware modification. Unfortunately, it is pretty much confirmed that you need to solder two minuscule resistors onto an equally tiny spot to be able to flash win8.1. Most of us have really horrible soldering skills. Luckily, if you read on, I've come up with an alternate solution that will enable the majority of us to perform this hardware mod with minimal skill.
This is a pre-requisite for flashing of win8.1. Win8.1 instructions to follow once I have performed this mod.

Tools: 6B Pencil
Steps: Use pencil to draw a line across the contact points to close the circuit
Non-confirmed side effects: Possible loss of HDMI output. Unsure how long the graphite lasts
This works because graphite while conducting electricity have a fairly high resistance. DO NOT SHORT CIRCUIT by simply soldering the two points together or something like that.

Been thinking and now wonder if there is someone able to create an application behaving similar to a Wacom-tablet? There is applications out there that could work (Omnipresence, G-remote), but it's way to laggy to use in Photoshop.
It wouldn't have to have a lot of features (I'm actually not very informed about wacom-tablets and what features they have so I dunno what could be implemented). But it would be best to keep it clean and minimize the lag and optimize for use with stylus.
Am I the only one who thinks this would be awesome or are there more out there like me?
Edit: Thought I could add a list of wanted features for this, so if you'd like any special features implemented in the app, just post it and I'll add it to the list. I should also add that I have no knowledge of developing myself so I don't know what actually can be done.
- Adjustable Sensitivity (Could be a pain using such a small screen otherwise)
- Simulate a right-click on the mouse. (Either a map a hardware-button or make a separate soft key)
- Scrollbar (?)
Will be superb. Very good idea...
Seems like we are the only ones interested in this?
Hmm nice idea.
I think this should be able with .NET Framework.
I still work on 3 other projects till the end of november and then I will give a try to this project.
If somebody wan't to help me, please PN.
Great! If you need I can help out with graphics.
If this app goes well, it would save a lot of money for a lot of people. I mean even the smallest sized Wacom cost quite a lot.
Really nice idea people . Hope it gets developed ..will be qiute a big saving

Ever tried one? Even the smallest wacom(bamboo) is all the money worth. I habe one and i wouldn't miss it.
btw. it isn't possible to rebuild the functionality of a wacom - you don't have to touch the panel. you move the pen a few millimeters across the panel and tap to click
Wacom tablets are combination resistive+capacitive tablets. You can't replicate the functionality with the simple resistive (or capacitive) panel you have available to you on the phone. The stylus is also pressure-sensitive, so pressing harder gives you thicker lines when you're drawing. You can't do that without electronics in the stylus.

I agreee. WACOM's new line of tablets - Bamboo - are actually very inexpensive (I picked up a 4x6 model for $60 at Fry's Electronics) compared to some of their higher end tablets, and for most functions you would use a tablet for, they work great (wouldn't try to do autocad or anything like that with it, but it's great for photoshop and web design - which is what I do).
Granted, for something like basic handwriting recognition, using our touchscreen phones would certainly be a good alternative. The PocketTablet software mentioned earlier seems like it would meet those needs, but of course if someone wanted to develop a free alternative, I'm sure no one would complain

Depends if you want to? If you think you can make it better, go ahead! Also, that software had to be purchased (yes I know, I'm cheap, but I'm short of money at the moment).
Also, my intentions with this wasn't to make an exact copy of a Wacoms functionality, I realize that can't be done. But something close that could work without lagg to use while saving for the real thing.
Moved as not software release or development.
Please take your time to read the rules.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447646
I think we can make it better.
But which functions we should develop to make a better program?
First Post Updated
Check first post. I made a layout and features suggestion, I think it could work pretty well. I had to think a while to solve the problem with having to move the mouse without drawing.
So if you hold the "left-click" button, the button holds down, which means if you then move with the stylus, it gets drawn. If you don't have the left-click button held down, you only move the mouse.
Feel free to add suggestions and opinions!

This is an official thread about AndrOINC - BOINC project created by Sesef and OxyOne from Polish National Team.
Informations
Official name: AndrOINC
Motto: For Motorola Milestone freedom
Website:
Creators: Sesef and OxyOne from Polish National Team(BOINC.pl)
Special thanks to:
pontomedon - for creating the MilestoneRSA project and putting everybody one step closer to Milestone freedom
Platforms:
Windows x86 - supported
Windows x64 - supported(with app from x86)
Linux x32 - currently working on
Linux x64 - currently working on
GPU application ATI + nVidia - very soon
What is it?
AndrOINC is a BOINC project trying to break a 1024 bit RSA key used by Motorola to sign the boot and recovery partitions on the Motorola Milestone. If this key could be broken, we would be able to sign our own boot/recovery images, which would enable us to run custom kernels and recovery images on the Milestone.
//Will be updated later
Reserved for future use.
Let's get started, I'm sure all of us together can achieve it.
What about the possibility of searching not just the milestone key but also the ones from other moto models to increase the audience ?
It's already going to take till the end of time to find the Milestone without adding extra verables to the mix.

My skill on symmetric encryption is almost zero, so sorry for the dumb questions.
This mean that every motorola phone has a different pair of public and private keys ? There isn't a single public motorola key, right ?
I have joined this project
Team Canada ready for joining.
Thanks for the project hosting
just a sec - AndrOINC? nobody told me there'd be pigs involved!

Unfortunately, the MilestoneRSA has been aborted and we have to start from scratch....
However the good news is that we are going to use optimized worker from PNT and they are goin to provide GPU support as well.. so we'll cover up the wasted work sooner than later.
joined in (tough its just a laptop). can't wait for the bootloader to be cracked.
source code of the worker so we would actually know what are we computing?
Alternative Quicker Method?
Started helping you guys out with some computing cycles.
I know nothing about encryption, but a team from Univ. of Michigan broke 1024-bit encryption quickly by altering voltage to cause CPU faults. We can easily control voltage on Milestone and DX...anyone looked into their paper and its application to unlocking the boot loader faster than a brute force method?

ns.umich.edu/htdocs/releases/story.php?id=7551
I'll join as soon as the linux client will be available .. Can i use it first and then switch to the one with CUDA support?
yes, I think BOINC will just have to update the worker itself to support CUDA, not the whole client
However, since they mention Nvidia and ATI support, they won't be using CUDA (nvidia only)
man these WUs are fast. I'm doing 6 minutes compared to 12 hours on my x86 Win7 VM with 2Gb on my MacPro.

They way I see it, you would have to alter the voltage at boottime since that is when the keys are being checked.. this is not the same as tweaking the vsel if this is what you refer to with "we can easily control the voltage"
So I don't know if would be that easy to do.. But hey, I'm not an expert or something

Hack me if you can!
Hey guys,
I am proud to present you four apps you may legally crack (Well kind of, the Market policy actually doesn't allow you to disassemble downloaded apps, but who cares).
Each of these apps has a simple Activity asking you for a username and a serial.
Your goal is to find a working username/serial combination ^^
It starts really easy in Kids Mode and gets harder with every app. I recommend starting with Kids Mode or Easy.
Feedback is appreciated!
Good luck and have fun!
If you haven't decompiled an Android APK yet, google for
- baksmali
- dalvik opcodes
- smali
- apktool
- dex2jar (if you don't like opcodes)
- jdgui
If you don't know what adb, logcat or root means, don't download it!
Play Store links removed, please download APKs below.
Highscore* so far for Hard:
1. ricardopvz
2. regisca
3. Pimmos
4. chipwreck1
5. iuss
6. inzepinz
7. SteelBytes
8. inzzzz
9. lufuscu
10. tdski82
11. sehaas
12. Drakuwa
13. nihilus
14. orivier
Below is the APK for the hard version, so you don't have to buy it from the market
Some hacking advise:
- There is not the solution to get the serial, if you are stuck, try another way to get it
- You don't have to understand all of the code (especially if you're trying the hard version), the only part you must understand is the code where the entered serial is checked with the generated serial.
- An easy way to find this part is by looking for strings (=text). For example, if it is not the right serial, try searching for "wrong", as it is shown in the toast.
- You could even crack the app. With cracking I don't mean making the app accept every serial (which would be easy), but e.g. display the correct serial instead of the message "Wrong serial".
- And last but not least, don't let the code confuse you or give up! The hard app may look *very* complex, but at it's core it is not about how the serial is generated, but how it is checked.
*: To enter the Highscore, please enter the serial and username you used in the form or send it to me via pm
thanks i'll try on it...

I hope you have fun with it ^^
Sorry, I completely forgot to post the apk for the hard version... you guys don't have to pay for it ;-)
I actually don't know anything about hacking. I don't know how to solve kid mode lol... yeah I'm a noob. I'll have to read up on the logcat stuff! Hopefully I can solve kid mode soon
Great! I am on the step where i have to submit username and serial
This looks fun. Will try when I get home...
Sent from another Dimension!
Nice idea!
Now at "Medium".. and here things get suddenly much more advanced than on the previous two steps.
thanks for this cool challenge!
Now the question is, do you have to make a serial gen base of this or can you just patch the routine and bypass serial + username combo all together basically looks like a simple if then true !false statement. Mind you I haven't even started on this but just wondering if that's the case then fairly simple like 90% of the other android apps out there. Even apps that use server side authentication are very easy to crack on android.
well im really interested in this game, but its too hard, can u give us some tips on how to play? o.o im really lost in this game.
This is great, I can wait to give this a go, will definitely encourage users to learn more about how android apps work and how to work the code, I'm sure I'll learn a lot in the process
Went it around. Sorry
This sounds cool, downloading now. Thanks for the for this cool contribution to the community.
Used logcat | grep -i hack to get past kid.
Used dex2jar and jd-gui to get past easy.
Working on medium now, using same tools as above, and will take a look at hard, now that you've posted the apk
Thanks for the apps and challenge. It's been fun getting back into checking code.
Sent from my A500 using xda premium
Made it through Medium, working on Hard now
P.S. I hate smali - but this will finally force me to learn those opcodes
Hello XDA community and Acer Laptop User
First, let me address the Acer Laptop Users. I bought a used Acer Aspire 5930z from Kijiji for $200 and later found out what the seller meant by Heating Problem. I then discover that with Acers' overheating -and to others a lot- means shutdown or so I thought.
I've tried multiple -cheap- solutions that didn't work...
- Googled for solutions
- Apply Thermal Paste (Arctic Silver 5 aka AS5) to CPU Card & Graphic Card
- Took apart the Laptop; Clearing Dust from fan, check for loose or damaged parts
- Clearing files with CCleaner (and used Speccy for Temperture, mostly +45)
- Using SpeedFan program to run fan high
- Got suggestions -thermal paste, motherboard replace- from professionals (No, I didn't give it to a tech to fix...$50-100 for taking apart, looking & reasembling...and one guy told me its a screen problem, a fix for $100, but buy the laptop for $12...haha...I understand, but no)
- Put three 1L containers of Ice underneath Fan & Vents to suck in cold air (Temps stayed at 30-50 and Laptop run for a long period of time ~8hrs)
Then today I Googled for a solution again and found a thread -a word makes a difference- with an answer from a KennyJo with a promising explaination and when I checked to see if I was on the right track. I found I was and what might be the problem also to why even down to the professionals & Kijiji buyer couldn't figure out...no one needed to look inside the laptop.
In fact what KennyJo stated it the problem is an incorrect -not faulty, wrong- Laptop charger -power supply aka psu- as the current one/wrong one I have says the OUTPUT is 19V - 4.74A - 90W when the one I am suppose to have/right one is 19V - 3.42A - 65W.
So yes after reading the whole thread, find KennyJo's answer, googling what psu my Acer 5930z needs and discovering I have the wrong charger might mean no loss anymore...HEEY YAAH.
Info
- KennyJo's answer to Acer's Heat & Shutdown Problem [Click Here]
The reason for the whole auto shut down thing is my power supply. Whenever I used some program required higher performance (including watching a video), or in another word, more power supply to the system, the psu would fail (overheat?) and shut the whole system down.
Even though the case of my psu was cool, the place where the fan located was actually very hot.And I believe not enough voltage for my cpu fan was the reason why my cpu temp was so high.
For those who might be facing this problem, I strongly recommend you to check you power supply after finding applying the cooling compound do not work.
And the auto shut down have not happened again so far

For XDA Community...Mods please I beg,
I tried to post this on Acer's Community forum to inform there laptop makers that they should bridge a gap with Users to at least allow them to know simple things like this (slap a sticker so people know), but had so much trouble just signing up for the site.
I know there is a thread for Laptops/Desktops, but Acer's rep has been down for this. Though there rep doesn't matter people want solutions. Sometimes its not about being invincible, but repairable (That can be applied to a lot of things like Infrastructure or Project Ara).
So I beg don't remove or move this thread.
[New Nov 16, 2015] Turns out it too was the charger for me, My Stepfather bought my Lil'Sister a Laptop Acer E5-521. And to the person who voted cooling pad, same if I kept using the 4.74Amps PSU and the 1L of containers of ice...like a Desktop.
Dear all: This is my first post. I spent two days reading posts concerning the highly anticipated unlocking of the S7 G930T bootloader. It sounds as though the developers at XDA and anot entity known as Chainfire are chomping at the bit in expectation -- TWRP is written and waiting at the border. That is awesome and I wish you all the best of luck. There are several apps that I wish to install on my phone. Most of them address device security (firewalls, etc...) and secure communications. Thank you in advance for your many hours of work.
My question is one of methodology and the ultimate goals of device rooting using the Android 6+ OS. Why not use a virtual root as a cheap and tawdry temporary work around? A similar method appears to have worked well for a Corbin Champion who create Gnuroot. His app creates rooted Linux environments on Android devices and requires no Android root.
Will this work for applications that require a rooted Android? Is my question rooted in reality? What are the limitations of a rooted app or virtual root system?
Why would anyone want to use a cheap trick? Is it possible that using an app or a virtual root may avoid potential crashes and instabilities? Samsung may have locked the bootloader to prevent or slow the use of the S7 G930T in illegal activity. Wouldn't the development of an app for non-developers all us to benefit from many wonderful apps while preventing non-developers from engaging in less than ethical hacking with root as a lockpick?
I also read an XDA post concerning chain-loading an OS from a USB device. This also seems like a clever work around. It may also be an effective security tool that may allow a cellular device to be driven by a portable OS. It may allow one to protect device data and USB-OS data while enjoying network communications. What are your thoughts?
If I could pull this off on my own, I would do it and release it for free since that seems to be the thing to do -- to contribute in an academic manner to the karma/knowledge pool. I hope that capable hands consider a project like this to be worth while. If is already done, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
Cheers!
Dear all:
After I posted and asked questions that I though were interesting, I continued to read and look for helpful apps.
I lot of new apps appeared in the Google play store. Or maybe I just had not paid attention well enough before.
However the coincidence occurred, the most useful apps were the IP tools such as trace and location search.
Before that day I never once obtained an IP trace result and location that was at all useful or even remotely interesting. This time I was able to summon the leviathan.
The corresponding IP address to a machine that was and may still be in constant communication with my Samsung Galaxy S7:
172.217.3.238
The corresponding GPS coordinates:
37.4192000, -122.0574000
In the links below you will see that this corresponds to an office building on the property of the Moffett Federal Air Field near Mountain View and Stevens Creek California. How did that happen. My attorney doesn't know either. He says that no one is looking for me or is in great want of a chat with me. I am a medical student. ????
Ok. So I sent a complaint to the California State Attorney General Kamala Harris... several time by fax, online portal, and email. I called her office to confirm. Her staff confirm, don't confirm, and say that they have no way of tracing documents received by their server. So my attorney called and emailed.
Anyway... this smells of phone spoofing and phone trapping again so I will have to fight just to submit a complaint.
Links to the IPtrce and IP location searches.

I'm not sure about this whole thread... That IP is Google, which has nothing to do with your post about a 'virtual root', OS on USB, or whatever.
