What provider are you with (if any)?
I can appreciate a long-lasting battery better than most. In November I got jumped, beat up, and stabbed in the gut. Spent the night in the hospital, and only the huge 3300mAh battery in my Droid Razr Maxx kept me in touch with my family and friends that could help me. My current phone doesn't have a big battery, but I carry a spare.

so any of the top phone you can recommend?

Battery too weak?

Hello XDA Community, i'm a HTC Sensation owner and i got it from service 3 days ago (the phone had really frequent shutdowns and the battery only lasted like 2 hours even without using it). Altough it doesn't have those problems i experience a really weak battery... As you can see from the photos i only had a 9h and 20 minutes lifetime from 100%, with only 2 hours and 7 minutes Screen On... Today i played games around 1 hour, used the internet 5-10 minutes , talked for like 1 minute and sent 5 messages. Is it normal that a 1520 mAh battery drains so fast?
I had the same problem when I first got my Sensation. Mine was used, so the battery was already a year old, but the phone was mint. I had the same terrible drain as you have, and I hardly used mine during the day. I rooted it and tried a few ROM's, and found that so far, anything based on Bruce's CM10 gives the best battery life. Will defiantly be try the Viper ROM today though.
If you don't want to root, I would pick up one of these:

I'm going to be trying one out myself.

I bought mine used too, it was used for 8 months, ill try to purchase an anker then... Thanks!
Hi I had same issue, tried Anker it was a good battery but I still needed more juice . I went to Mugen 3800mah battery. Now with HEAVY use I get more than 24 hours use out of one charge! I can't stress enough what a difference this battery has made for me! Yes it is expensive but for me it was worth every cent! I am a heavy user of my device and rely on it for everything from navigation to internet to gaming. This is a serious battery , it solved all my battery drain issues ! One thing through, it does make you're device a bit thicker but it still fits in pocket and feels good in my hand. For me, battery life is what I'm after so I don't at all mind the thicker phone I'm not in a beauty contest, I wanted results! This battery delivers. If your a moderate user you might not need so much juice but if you're a heavy user like I am this battery is the answer! It will not disappoint! If you find Anker is not providing enough juice and want more time on battery, do consider Mugen 3800mah. You won't worry about running out of battery Again! This battery with HEAVY use will still be on 100% two hours later!! My biggest issue was battery drain and this battery solved that problem for me. Like I mentioned its not for everyone because it will make device thicker but if you're serious about battery life it's the way to go! So depending on your use this might be an other option for you. If you use your device heavily, I highly recommend this battery. Best wishes to you!

Thanks for the tip... I'm not such a heavy user of my phone but atm its still unbealiveable short on it's life. If i would take it out of the charger at 100% and play 1 and a half hour it will get to 1%...
Have you gave Anker a try? Most people here really like Anker and its given great extended battery. It's very affordable and I think it would be a wonderful solution to your issue.battery will make a big difference. You will see. My stock battery was absolutely pathetic. After I switched it was like night And day a huge difference! I believe Anker is only about 10 to 15 dollars and you won't regret switching. This is one solution to your issue. Best wishes. You can also try changing kernels and see if that helps but I think a Anker battery will really help in your situation.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in...
Whilst a higher capacity battery will help to some extent, IMHO it's like buying a bigger hose instead of fixing the hole in the bucket.
To clarify, I do actually own an Anker 1900mAh battery as well as the stock battery, but only because it was cheap and I was interested to see how much difference it made. I switch between the two on a regular basis. I can't deny the Anker certainly has a better cycle length than stock, but as I was already achieving well in excess of a full day's use on stock battery the benefit to me was negligible.
Another clarification, I'm not one of those people who will refuse to use their phone all day and then crow about their "amazing" battery life. You buy a smartphone because you want to use it. Mine is a work phone and as such is well used every day, making/receiving calls and texts, camera shots, VPN access etc. Then there's my personal use, web browsing, eBay, bluetooth audio every time I get in the car or work truck, e-books, games and so on. Not to labour the point but the phone comes off the charger at 6 am every work day and always has some life left when it goes back on the charger at 10 or 11 pm.
I guess, partly because of what I do for a job, I'm not a fan of "bigger hammer" solutions. There is a wealth of information here on XDA and you can greatly increase your battery life and cost you nothing but a bit of time spent reading. For a start I'd suggest looking into Battery Monitor Widget and/or Better Battery Stats (this thread).
I don't know if you're rooted or not, there are huge gains to be made with rooting and the possibilities that come with that. However, my wife's completely stock One S had absolutely atrocious battery life out of the box, and of course no possibility of increasing battery capacity, but with a few tweaks and better understanding she can still get a day's use out of her phone.
Sorry for the lengthy reply, but I see a lot of "get a bigger battery" responses to these questions when there are other options you can explore

Weird behavior and thanks....

I'm waiting for a new phone to arrive and I may sell my Thunderbolt so.... I un-rooted and installed the stock ROM and let it update.
Really ODD results:
I'm getting the best battery life I've EVER had with any ROM. I've run several ICS ROMs and they all had the usual poor battery life but I've also run several GB sense, de-sensed and no-sense ROMs, all with poorer battery life than I have now, go figure?????
If it wasn't for the HUGE amount of useless crap VZW puts on a phone I'd probably have been happy w/o rooting the T'bolt...
I'd like to thank all the devs for the very good ROMs I've used, I'm hoping to see some of you over in the Samsung Galaxy SIII forum as I know I'll have to de-bloat the critter when it arrives.
NOTE: I ran my T'bolt almost two full days before I rooted it, I wonder if I can beat that record with the SIII?
I think your s3 is going to get about the same battery life as the bolt. I've used my niece's s3 quite a bit and it seems to lose battery almost as fast as my bolt does. Either way I don't think it's going to be much better.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I plan on doing the same as I do with the T'Bolt. Get a charging dock with a place for a spare battery and switch batteries around 5 - 6 PM each day.
However, if the SIII give the same battery life as the T'bolt does now with the stock ROM I'll not need to do that, I turned on at 7 AM Tuesday morning and had 40% battery at 10:30 PM. It's NEVER done more than 12 hours with any other ROM, wondering if the last VZW update had something to help battery life? Who knows....
OK, days later plus one trip of several days and.... the battery life on the S3 is a little better than the T'Bolt. I'm getting a low battery warning maybe once a week or so. I usually take it off the charger at 7AM and hit the sack around 11PM, only VERY unusual use will trigger the low battery warning, otherwise I go to bed with maybe 25% remaining.
I consider it adequate, I'd like better but....

[Q] Nexus 5 battery life

im new to this website and im sort of a noob in modding, but i heard people on xda are pros and can give me an inside opinion. i wanna buy a new phone and its either the lg g2 or nexus 5 for me. im a moderate user still in high school so you could say my phone is off for a good amount of time. i was set for the LG G2 but then after some good research i heard about all the problems with the touchscreen sensitivity becoming whacky and all multiple reports of terrible lag and stutter, i come from samsung and i despise lag the suffering i had with their devices was enough. now the main selling point for the g2 is the battery life, which i also heard can be inconsistent. my question goes out to nexus 5 users, as i need someone with personal experience. i use my phone when i come back from school around 4pm for 1-2 hours then its off until about 11 where i use it for maybe a max of 2.5 mainly facebook, whatsapp, bbm and sort of a lot of youtube. will the battery do me good? and how long will it last? I really need some help. PS. they're almost the same price where i am so i dont want comparisons of "its good enough for 350" i need honest(with screenshots if available) performance opinions. i could really use some help guys please
You're good to go.
Check the battery results thread for specifics but 3 hours SoT is about the minimum you can expect without touching anything.

15 hrs. off the charger and 3 hrs. screenontime for me, stock/not rooted.
I'm rooted rommed and I usually get throughout the whole day easy with a lot of instagram group me and heavy texting . I'm a college student and I text a lot I get through the day

i wont have any mods on my phone cause i really dont want to take a risk of ruining my phone, so you think a nexus 5 would do well (1-1.5 days maybe) battery wise? or should i go with the G2?

Why?
If you are a heavy user then I would recommend getting the G2 instead, the battery life gap is just day and night in terms of difference. As for the stutters even N5 is not immune to that. For the touch screen issues, I have several friends who have the G2 and NONE of them have the issue/
I'm sorry, but does no one own a charger? It will last you the whole day. That's all that is needed. Put it back on the charger when you go to bed, Take it off the charger when you wake up.

how do different you think it is? like you have the n5 how much juice you get out of it and are you satisfied? as for the stutter, i heard a lot of stories about deteriorating performance and the ram being taken up more than 1.3/2 out of the 2 gigs available. i really cant stand lag which is my im tempted by the n5. im not really a heavy user maybe moderate-heavy, but i do go out on a lot of days and i have a trip this summer, so i need something that wouldnt fail me midday

Thank you!!
"I can keep it on for 2 days straight oh wowee!". I don't get why people want it to last forever, simply charge it overnight. Yes, the nexus will probably last a full day depending on how you use it, but even if you can't, whack it on a charger for 30 mins and you're good to go till you can fully charge it before bed. The charging speed is amazing on this thing, so if you're at 5% before the day ends, top it up, and in 10 mins and you'll have 20% ready for the rest of the day.
Battery lasts all day = Good, usable battery.

Depends on the day but for heavy use its not as good as the G2, both devices have their own set of stuttering events. I dont even know why the N5 has a lot of home screen redraw when there is over 600mb of free RAM.
It can't compete with the G2's huge battery but compared to phones with similar sized batteries it is extremely efficient.

It is much more than the 3000mah battery...it also has G ram for the screen which decreases the screen power consumption by almost 30% according to lg even after features such as knock on and also the kernel of G2 must have been optimized to maximise its battery life
That is why it is leads ahead off phones which have same mah battery.
I just moved from a G2 to N5.
When I got my G2 it would last almost 2 days, after a few months it would barely last over 1. I Tried other ROMs modded stock ROMs and just couldn't get the battery back up to where it was. The other day it fell down a flight of stairs and I had to replace it anyway so I got the N5, which so far I like the battery on. I don't expect it to be as good as the G2 originally was, but so far its doing great for me.

Think I heard N5 has the same "G Ram" they just don't advertise it. It also has the same 20% more efficient LTE operation as the G2 and is more efficient than other 2300 and even 2600 mAh phones.

A thought on battery life

I thought I'd post this after trying numerous Roms and finding that battery life was getting worse. I went to Batteries+ (a chain that sells all sorts of batteries) and replaced my battery a few days ago. I can honestly say that my battery life on ANY ROM is now 14-20+ hours.
With our s3's approaching the 2 year mark it seems that the stock battery is nearing its life span. But with a new battery this phone is working perfectly. Just thought I'd share my experience.
Sent from my d2lte using xda app-developers app
As a chef, I'll offer you this thought: it's the man, not the pan.
Each ROM has its quirks. Same with kernels. Same with carriers. It's how you let them operate. Work with your settings, assess your app permissions, you can always make it better. As tempting as it is to pick the low hanging fruit, it's often times not the hardware, but the manipulation of software or lack thereof. I've seen a lot of people complain about lag/drain/freezes/storage while they are running at least one 3rd party app for each individual task.... or even task killers/managers! To me, those are useless, and only contribute to the issues... Android is beautiful because it's designed to run without the need for all the extra noise.
I digress.
I appreciate the feedback. Eventually an electronic device is going to need a new battery and no amount of rom/app manipulate is going to improve battery life after a certain amount of time. For those that have noticed extreme drops, such as myself, a new battery is a lower cost option that breathes new life into an "older" phone. As I mentioned I'm experiencing nearly triple the run time as compared to my stock battery. Worth looking into in my opinion.

After extensive use the battery will drain a lot faster then when you first bought the phone. I had the s 3 for close to 2 years and the battery life is still pretty solid just not like it was when I first bought the phone.
Back to 4.1
I've tried various 4.3 and 4.4.x roms and I keep going back to Cleanrom 7 due to battery life. I guess I am stuck with 4.1 until the ohone is EOL.

You'll experience this with any battery-dependent device. Batteries wear out. After two years, you'd probably be surprised how much longer a new battery would last.
Here's my thought on battery life.
The OTA 4.3 upgrade is killing it. Battery life was great on 4.1. Wish I would have rooted so I could have shut down the OTA upgrade app.
My GS3 is practically brand new, so I can't blame it on an old battery. Got it for .97 cents on Black Friday back in November. Even better is that Walmart gave me a $100 gift card to take it off their hands for .97.

Well it is pointless to get a new battery when I am due for an upgrade in a few months.

It is a lot cheaper to get a new battery than upgrade! I am beyond happy with my S3 and will be looking for a battery when I hit my 18-24 months with the device.
Of course, I am also running my grandfathered unlimited data so I buy my phones used or outright anyway.

So what is your point? I am not buying a new battery for a phone that i already had for 21 months(bought it in 2012) and only going to keep for 3 more months. Yeah it is cheaper to get a new battery but it doesn't make sense if I am going to upgrade to a new phone anyway. Now I have an extra battery that I can't use. That is like upgrading a graphics card to a 5 year old computer knowing that you are going to buy a new computer that is better then the old one. Lastly why wait 18 months to get a new battery when you can upgrade to a better battery(2300mah as oppose to the original 2100mah battery) that is compatible with the S3 now on Amazon and other sites that sell smartphone batteries.

roms and kernels?

anyone know why there are no roms or kernels for this phone? wonder if it's because of a locked bootleader? that and the fact that the battery life sux balls i think i might return this. i love the camera and the feel of it but it's still rather laggy even after the newest update
thanks all
No roms and kernels because no custom recovery.
No custom recovery because locked bootloader.
Not sure why you're getting poor battery performance.
Battery life is brilliant for me, I can go a whole day of normal use (my normal use is probably heavy use to most people) and still have 40% when I go to bed .
What kind of apps are you using to get such lag and battery drain?
Yea, i see everyone complaining about the battery life but i have had no issues with battery life or drainage.
that was with just the basics installed. 100 percent when i start the day around 8:30 the used it to stream pandora for an hour on the way to work. then it sat in my pocked unused and the battery was at 15 percent by 1.
this is even with my battery saver proggie running that cuts of the wifi and cell antenna's when screen is off. no idea im assuming the battery is defective. but now that i know there's not gonna be roms and such i think i might just say fark it and get the m9. i see that there are already tons of roms for that. and i came from a og 3vo so i recognize all the developers.
it's just a bummer i love the curve and the camera on this thing. this is also my third gflex 2 since i got it 3 days ago. the first one just started bootlooping after fifteen mins, the second did the same and now the third seems to work good but the battery life is horrible.
tis a predicament rofl.
thanks for the info gang
j
If that's the case then you might be right about a defective battery.
Either that or the screen is coming on in your pocket, you'd probably notice your skin burning as the phone heats up though.
Have you checked Settings> Battery> Battery Usage, just to see what's using the most battery?
If you're not happy with the flex 2, the m9 is a great phone.
I got my hands on a prototype about 6 months before release, the only reason I didn't get one is that it just didn't feel right in my hand.
Battery life compare to my old Flex 1 is crap. I know its smaller and better screen resolution, but still my old G2 had better battery life than Flex 2 with same screen resolution and battery.
OP should go cr8 it
