Google maps location not accurate? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I look at Google maps where I am is not accurate. But if I start using navigation then it puts me on the correct street?
Any ideas why?

Bug methinks. I get that sometimes too.
Seeing a stupid comment on Google Play about an app you love and marking it as "spam". You've done it too.

It's bloody annoying. Lol

If you've ever played around with app ops check 'Google play services' has location enabled

Why? It's a different service?

there are 3 levels of accuracy on your device, make sure its on high accuracy and you have google play services enabled.
what it is ...
Google's fancy scarier than the NSA ability to know where most router mac's live on the globe
as you move room to room down the block , drive around it pings routers and other id's for location and more than triangulates
long story short you in turn give google the power to sniff and locate new tags and it makes life better for everyone..
high accuracy doesn't really drain all that much more on the N5,.... anyway give thanks if its deserved my old ass account seems fake to XDA all of this sudden,.,

[Request] GPS/Location Spoofer

This could be very useful on a number of levels. Most notably, NBA League Pass so you can watch games that are blacked out in your area.
Here's how they hacked the League Pass app on the iPhone.
http://www.coderetard.com/2010/01/19/how-to-remove-nba-league-pass-restrictions-on-iphone/
I would be down for a similar hack of the app, or a different app that would fake your GPS location. I have the League Pass APK for those interested.
Certainly possible, android has support for "mock locations". You can find it in the development settings under settings->applications
There is some info here: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/location/index.html
I looked on a rooted G1 and the "geo" program isn't included. Might be as easy as copying it from an emulator to a rooted phone, i'm not sure.
An actual android app might also be able to do it using the permissions
ACCESS_LOCATION_EXTRA_COMMANDS and ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION.
It is possible to get the name of the location provider when requesting a provider, however, so the app might have taken this trick into account and only allow it to use the true network location provider.
I'm also really interested in this
This would be great, I was about to try to access through the terminal on the phone and try the android.location method, still a little confusing but it just kills the use of the mobile app.
The whole point of the mobile NBA app is so you can view your local team because you are not by a t.v.. Especially my Lakers.
I would also be interested in something like this for the NBA league pass too...
GO CAVS! hahh...
This would be awesome for the android. I can never watch the games because there always blackout in cleveland. GO CAVS!1
Coded this in a few minutes, let me know if it works (I tried to open Maps and it said I was in L.A. )
You have to enable mock locations in Settings -> Development.
It seems to work, thank you very much!!
If you have a Paypal account, I'll happily donate so you can have a couple of beers
Now, does anybody if is there a NBA League Pass application I can buy to watch the playoff games?
Thanks a lot! I have a donation button on my Android apps website

Done, thank you again.
I guess I'll be also able to use this for TV.com app and several others
By the way, would it be possible to keep a list of locations stored? You know, Alaska to avoid NBA blackouts, London to get some English content...
Thank you in advance.
Is this working? I'm trying to watch the Laker game right now. I put in the coordinates and set the location. It seems to be spoofing Maps but League pass is telling me to make sure my location service is on and turn off airplane mode.
Damn, i was hopeful. But pandora still knows I'm not in the US.
Here I am
First of all, I published the app on the Market, so if you want to stay updated download it here.
@reycat: Good idea, I'm gonna add a list of the last locations used.
@CaliLove310: I'm not from the US, could you enlighten me on the blackout rules for playoff games? I read somewhere that they are broadcasted on national TV, so they aren't available on League Pass in any part of the States.
@liam.lah: I installed Pandora, it seems to know your location even if you disable both wireless networks and GPS. I suppose it uses the IP address for geolocation, so you'll need a US proxy to make it work...
Thank you very much, ajejee.
Just updated to the market version, I really like choosing the location in the map, much easier than remembering latitudes and longitudes
By the way, we cannot try NBA League Pass now because of the playoffs, but... can anybody give TV.com app a try? It force closes in my Nexus One every time, but maybe somebody else can try it and check if he/she can watch US TV shows
"Last locations" option added, there should be an update on the Market
Ajejee. Thanks for this app .
Im wondering if there is a reason gps spoofing works but why wifi wont load the videos on nhl and nba apps? The videos load good with 3g connection though.
Stock droid x unrooted.
Thanks for your response.

i'm using the one from the market. it works great with 3g but not with wifi. I get the message "this video cannot be played"
I set the time to spoof for like 5 mins and then load the app when the game starts. Set the spoofed for like Australia or something. Mine works on both wifi and 3g.

I will be travelin' for a 1500miles and I want my wife not to worry and know where am I, using the google maps. Is there anything like this? that my mobile x10mini pro can be seen on google maps and tell my position.

Fameelee - Family Locator will perfectly meet your needs. This app actually developed for families to help them to stay in touch 24/7 negleting the distance.
Within this app you will be able to track/being tracked real time location as well as location history for the last 30 days, stay in touch with your loved onces with in-app chat, get gps notifications once your wife gets some specific places, send panic alarms with your current gps location and video of your surrounding etc.
In paid version you can even track sms and call logs of your family members, get notifications if someone of them speeded and so on.
So give it a try and I believe you'll be impressed with app's feauters.
P.S. Mostly gps tracking apps drain phone battery quickly but not this one (tested and it takes only 3-4% of your battery life)

[NEWS4APP] Google Maps Will Have Full Offline Capability

Just announced,
Google Maps, in it's quest to battle Apple and others, is releasing an update shortly that will allow users to keep offline copies of maps for future use. You will be able to choose "favorite" locations, which like the previous Labs counterpart, will pre-cache an area. This time it will keep, and maintain copies of these stored areas.
I can't wait to enjoy this! I could care less about the data usage, but I'm looking forward to the huge amount of battery life I will be saving during the trip since I won't have to keep data on.

Yay for Google
atlast, i have uninstalled because it didnt support offline maps
Cant wait for this!
great!
Did'nt even fin an maps app that would do that is there any ? All thanks to google,
Didn't maps already have this feature?
Go to settings then labs and enable it (pre cache map area) .
After that, when you press on a location and go to it's details you can download the map for offline viewing.
So all the news is bringing this from lab to a regular feature?

From what I have read on multiple sources I think this will be different from just caching maps.
I think you can have offline maps on your phone permanently. But how much you can download I don't know.
It would be good if it gave you options like for example I decide to go on a holiday to Japan so I would download Japan maps before the trip via my WIFI and once I get back I could delete them to free up the space.
Well, you can do just that with the lab feature.
You can dl maps of areas you want and you can manage those maps or delete them.
The maps it downloads are 10 miles square from the place you choose and you can download alot of those.
Before I go abroad in just dl the country using this and, walla, no need for data roaming when using maps.

does the caching include all zoom levels?

Yes, they a vector based. It only has to download once and as you zoom in it recalculates and redraws.
Hopefully the new version allows for you to select larger areas at once, it was a PIA to get the LA area.
Can we use Navigation feauters also with this offline Map?
latest 6.8.1 version doesn`t support offline navigation
wow really good news....

[Q] Accurate family tracker

Hello, i have been searching for a accurate tracker so my family can know where we all are all the time. I needed it to not only run on GPS but Wifi and 4g as well to give a general location. I need it to have adjustable update control as well. I tried Google latitude but it never updates and i tried life360 and it is very inaccurate on location tracking even with GPS on.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Take a look at anti-theft apps. I use Cerberus (Play store, Developer website) on my phone, for anti-theft purposes. You can log on to their site to track & view location on a map. It seems accurate, & pulls location data quite quickly, so I suspect it does use wifi in addition to GPS.
Thanks friend, im looking for something that would show my whole family on the map on my phone. Any thoughts!

Google Play Services high battery questions/fix

So with App Ops I turned "location" and "keep awake" for Google play services using "App Ops 4.3/4.4 KitKat" by Color Tiger and my usage went from 10-20% depending on my on screen time to 3% without anything crashing so hopefully that'll help others out. Trying it on my nexus 7 2013 too.
If anyone knows why location or keep awake is necessary please let me know.
Are other apps that require or use location still working (and have location)? I believe Google Play Services is the api other apps go through to obtain location. I was going to try this myself also but was afraid of breaking other apps.

I haven't noticed anything not updating. EWeather, google now, and my other services are still doing great.
Do you still have push notifications (for hangouts or whats app or facebook messenger) when you turn of keep awake ?
