Google now hotword not working. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not a COMPLETE nub (although this may be something easy to fix, I'm just not sure how to, if at all.)
- Google Now version: 3.5.15
- Google Play Servces: 5.0.x
Cleared data for the Google search, not quite to google now launcher, although I'll try that now.
Restarted the device.
The Ok google hotword is still there, however, the extra settings are not there, almost like it's registering that I never updated it.
Could this be a custom ROM issue?

Is your language English (US)? For me the extra options were grayed out until I changed the language to English (US).

from what I've read, its a server side option that Google needs to activate on your account

Thank you for input.

i think that you were right in regards to the server-side switch.
It magically showed up yesterday when I stopped checking it every 2-3 mins at about 9:30p or so.
-shrug-
No rhyme or reason to the flag on the account I guess...?

[Q] RPC:S-3 error retrieving information from server

Hi all,
I am getting "rpc:s-3 error retrieving information from server" on every app when i try to download or update. I have tried clearing the data on play store, download manager, and google services and rebooting but it did not fix it. Has anyone found a fix for this?
I am on the stable release of 10.2 CM from Dec 2 and have the latest gapps.
Thanks
Anyone?
Try going Settings>Accounts>Google> Tap your account> Three dots in the upper right (or press menu button) "Remove Account" ... then readd your account .. then clear Play store cache and data and try it

Thanks! That got it! :good:
No need to remove the Google account on this problem. It suffices to:
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All
Google Play Store -> Clear data
Google Service Framework -> Clear data
Reboot
Found at http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/59861/error-retrieving-information-from-server-rpc-s-3

I tried all mentioned above , removed account, added back, cleared data & cache, rebooted but still am getting the same error on my Samsung S3

Same here. I've had this issue for over 2 months now. Google keeps saying it is a "known issue" for some. I have tried absolutely everything possible. Everything. I get it on my GS4 and my Nexus 7. I can not download anything or update anything. This is becoming very very irritating.

This may sound stupid, but changing my Google password and re-signing in on my phone actually made the error go away.
Hope that helps.

Ok, here's another idea, have you recently updated "Google Play Services"? It appears that it has been updated on 12/21/13. Perhaps it has the fix?

fixed
I've tried every suggestion out there (including those in this thread) for fixing the RPC:S-3 error and I haven't had any success. All apps install or update successfully except Flipboard, Gmail, Google Play Books and YouTube - they always get the RPC:S-3 error. The only other thing I can remotely think of is the fact that pertinent system apps aren't up to date or their versions aren't fully compatible with each other: Google Play Store 4.4.21, Google Play services 4.0.34 (924341-36) and Google Services Framework 4.3-757479.
Could that be the culprit? If so, how do I fix it? If not, any other ideas?
P.S. - Galaxy S III with Android 4.3
SOLVED!!! Finally! Not sure what the fix was exactly (since I tinkered with just everything in this session) but I think it was removing ALL Google accounts (I had 7 total) and possibly combined with toggling Sync and the clear cache & data trick. Here's everything I did:
Updated Google Play services to 4.1.32 (978161-36)
Updated Play Store to 4.4.22
Turned off Sync
Removed all 7 Google accounts
Cleared cache AND data for Google Play services, Google Play Store and Google Services Framework (I know the Google engineer said not to, but F it!)
Restarted the phone
Cleared cache AND data again for the aforementioned apps/services (I'm paranoid/anal)
Restarted the phone again
Turned Sync back on
Re-added just ONE Google account (my primary one)
Cleared cache and data again (told ya!)
Restarted the phone again
All the apps that were giving me the RPC:S-3 error have successfully updated/installed automatically. What a F'ing experience!
Well, 'til the next RPC:S-3 (or RPC:S-5:AEC-0) fiasco...
This is what i did and it fixed the issue.
Remove google account (all of them)
Un-install updates and cache what not
re-boot device.
Re add the account and don't update or anything yet.
Let your device sit for about 5 mins.
Download a random app from app store( don't update any other app yet)
after it's done downloading different app now you can update your apps
This method worked for me. Try it

Google Assistant? Anyone?

Keep reading that I should receive an update to Google Play Services - not through my provider but right from Google Play. So far no dice.
Anyone else?
I got a EMUI update this morning, thinking it was laying the ground work for GA,but still no dice
I entered an extra line in build.prop and voila. but you need root for that.

Can you tell me how? I Tried to put that line in my build.prop ro.opa.eligible_device=true , but I can't save it
Are you on nougat and rooted? I used the BuildProp Editor app from the play store.
After adding the line and saving, delete cache and data of the Google App.
Reboot and you'll have the assistant.
Apparently since the last Play Services app update there is no need to edit build.prop so just try updating that and wiping Google app data.
GA for those that can't get the app to work, just install Google Allo. It's active in Allo by default
Probably wont get Google Assistant, because I live in Sweden
Yeah it was a US roll out first, and then more places.
What a lot of articles failed to mention is that only some devices are eligible, not all.
No clue what the requirements are. Only 6.0 and above.
I'm waiting until the rollout is done, and then I'm sure there will be a way to do it. Or I'll just wait to root and then do it with build.prop.
More importantly where is that damn bug fix patch from Huawei so i can finally root?
France here. Got Assistant this morning along with the b380 patch
No assistant here is the US on the LO4 variant on B360. However none of my phones or phones of people I know have gotten it. I think its going to be a slow rollout.

I just got Google Assistant. Try to install the latest Play Services apk (you could search on ApkMirror), clear the cache of both, Google App and Play Services, and then reboot your phone. That's what I did.
I installed Allo and enable the google app(which I disabled early). The google app seem to enable google assistant system wide. Now I am figuring out how to change "OK Google" to something else...

[W/O Root] [5.0] Enable Google Assistant on Lollipop!

Hi all
I was just launching some activities from the Nova Launcher through which I accidentally opened the Google Assistant! With Lollipop! On a tablet!
Without much wait, Let's start
Pre-Requistites-
Latest Google App(Mine was 7.3.18.21)
An Android Lollipop or Lollipop+ Device
Nova Launcher
A Working Brain
Let's Go!
Open Nova Launcher
Long-Press on Home Screen
Select Widgets
Click on Activities
Scroll Down till you find Google App and Click on it
Scroll down and select com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.hq.OpaHqActivity
A Google Assistant icon will appear on your screen, click on it
Click on Your Stuff
Click on add reminder and then close it
Open Google App, open menu, and then Settings
There you should see Google Assistant
Your turn, teach the Assistant your voice and start playing with it
Do not even try to post a "Thanks". Press :good: button if you want to say thanks, it really helps a lot!

UPDATEGoogle App's June 28th update(7.6.9 Beta) just removed the Your Stuff screen. Users who already enabled Assistant by this method have this screen. Other users with latest Google App can't enable Google Assistant by using this method. I recommend downgrading to Google App v7.3, enabling Assistant from the above method and then upgrading to latest one.
UPDATE 2Google App 7.10 update doesn't let people use Google Assistant if they don't meet the requirements, >1.5 Gb of memory and 720p or higher screen resolution.
There's a workaround, to use Google App v7.8 till there's another workaround :silly:. I need someone to test this out as I have 2GB RAM.
UPDATE 3Google comes to the rescue and Google Assistant is now available on devices with Android 5.0 and above!Just make sure you meet all the requirements and you're good to go.
UPDATE 4Got Assistant working, with 7.1.2, and 1 GB RAM! Google website still states 1.5 GB RAM as a requirement. So just test, and report it here.
Frequently Added Questions
When I open the Your Stuff tab, it is empty.
Change language to English(US) and clear the cache of Google App.(Credits to @Ezekiel3)
How can I use Assistant by long-pressing the home button?
Check out this awesome app by @Jovic77 here.
When I launch the activity, it just flashes for a second and goes away.
Clear data of Google App and Play Services, and then launch the activity.
I can't see Your Stuff tab.
Downgrade to Google App v7.3 from sources such as APK Mirror. You can upgrade to latest one after enabling Google Assistant.
EditNow you can't. Only those meeting the requirements will get Assistant.

How do you install the Google play store on the China version Miui 10???

Any know how on this Mi Mix 3? Googled but no answers for this phone. Thanks
never tried but sounds like you can just download the google play store apk and sideload it just like any other app.
I appreciate your answer but I think it's more than that.

You can really just sideload the google play store APK honestly. Not sure if it also requires Google Play Services however, you may need that as well.
There is a tutorial on miui.com, but as usual its a mess but it should get you started: http://en.miui.com/thread-2326998-1-1.html
(Its for the MIX 2S, but it works for every xiaomi phone on China rom)
On previous xiaomi phones Chinese versions I had I downloaded a Google installer from the Mi app store which would install Play services and Play store. However there were also some additional adjustments required to get everything to sync, like downloading a specific contact and calendar sync app.
You typically never get rid of all the Chinese apps and language but it is usable until you can flash.
Look forward to hearing how you get on when yours arrives. I am waiting to see before pulling the trigger..
Just istall using Mi store or using Google Installer version 3.0 or 2.0

People said this machine likes the Mix2s which contains the framework itself. You can just download and sideload the apk found in the apkmirror.
I just installed to Google play store from apk mirror. Only issue I had be so far is contact sync with Google. But I just used the mi sync instead from my mi mix 2

3. Restart phone.
Correct?

so basically, google play services, contact sync etc are all preinstalled, all one has to do is install Playstore APK? right?
Hello , i'm a french student (so the budget is low and i do not speak fluent english) and i really want the Mi Mix 3 but here's the problem :
As it is not the Global version of the Mi Mix, (and the later will come out with SoC 855 and 5G so the price will go up) i don't know if i should buy it now or wait for the Global version to come out
I understand english quite well in my opinion so there's no problem with the phone being in english but the thing that bothers me is that the current version do not hold Google Play right ?
So should i buy it now and do what as said in this thread or wait for the Global version ?
Sorry to bother you and thank you very much
It's pretty simple to get the Google apps running on the Chinese version, and if you're comfortable with unlocking the phone and flashing you can now easily install the xiaomi.eu rom, which although it's based on the official Chinese rom, already includes the Google apps and supports French as well as English. As you point out, the 5G version will likely cost more, and there's also no firm release date yet. Here's the link to the rom I mentioned: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-10-0-10-1-stable-release.47170/

Guide to enable Google services on China variant AL00

Hi everyone,
I've been seeing many people having issues with installing Google framework on the AL00 variant.
The fact is that Google framework is already baked in and it is just a simple update to enable it.
1. Open app gallery and change country to China
2. Search for Google play store and click update
3. After update, click on open
4. The usual setup will appear
5. Done.
After the above steps, the majority of Google services and sync, etc should all be working.
* Update - OK Google does not work out of the box.
Have a good time with your new baby ?
Cheers!

I should say Google framework instead of services. I need to test out Google assistant as I don't use it but "OK Google" might not work at all due to Hivoice.
I'll update this thread to reflect more facts.
I just used the browser to look up "Google play store" and it gave me an option to download/update it, I've never opened the app gallery and everything works fine ??

Hi everyone,
I've been seeing many people having issues with installing Google framework on the AL00 variant.
The fact is that Google framework is already baked in and it is just a simple update to enable it.
1. Open app gallery and change country to China
2. Search for Google play store and click update
3. After update, click on open
4. The usual setup will appear
5. Done.
After the above steps, the majority of Google services and sync, etc should all be working.
* Update - OK Google does not work out of the box.
Have a good time with your new baby
Cheers!

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the suggestion above. I have legit fried my tiny brain on all aspects of getting google play to activate/update install what have you.
My location in the App Store ALREADY says China - and I am still unable to open or update the Google Play Store.
Any other suggestions? I am also unable to create a Huawei ID for the phone, it keeps saying "Restricted" and won't let me. Any work-arounds for this?
