What happened to what's up - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For a while I was able to say OK Google and then say what's up and it would tell me my notifications. But lately it won't respond to what's up. Anybody know how to fix this?

Reboot doesn't work but I think that because I am using a female English voice she doesn't understand the what's up phrase. I wonder how you say what's up in England ?

There is the Droid/Moto X touchless controls "OK Google Now" and the Android Google Search "OK Google" detection, and they are different things. The Touchless Controls "OK Google Now" supports "What's up" but the stock Google search "OK Google" does not.
I believe that Touchless Controls OK Google Now wakes to a black background screen.

Thanks for the reply. I found out that telling Google to read notifications works instead of what's up.

I just did some experimenting and found that everything works as you said with the English (us) voice. But with the English (uk) voice the what's up doesn't work and I have to tell it to read notifications instead.

OK Google!

Whenever I swipe up from the home button to open Google now should I be able to just say "OK Google" to activate voice commands?
I ask because that's how it works on my nexus 7 (2012) running 4.3. Is it just a setting I have turned off or is that for nexus devices only?
BTW I don't mean the always listening of the moto x.
Thanks

Works for me. In Google Now, go into settings and change language to English (US). Hot word should now be available.

The old version had "Google" as the hotword, but they changed it to "Ok Google" to get less false positives in an update.

Google Now Launcher KitKat only

KitKat only.
Here is the Google Now Launcher with integrated google now and always listening for "ok google now" enabled. Just set voice in google now options to English US and check Hotword detection option and it will listen all the time

Edit. Go to settings/security and tick allow unknown sources, then open it in any file explorer and it will install normally.
Thanks but.. How do we install it?

Like any normal app. Allow unknown sources and open it with any file explorer. It will instal normally. Btw i have found that commands like "set an alarm" only work if u got device language in english us. Enjoy
This doesn't work on all devices. My Verizon Galaxy S4 gives a parsing error.

Well this is the g2 forum and I got it installed on mine as we speak. Also I think it needs Kitkat to run.

OP, think you should add that this only works on KitKat.
Yes that would be a good idea... Doesn't work on 4.2.2

Did anybody test this on the G2 with 4.4.2?
Thanks!

Yeah, it works great on my D802 4.4.2!
Working great for me on 4.4.2 with two issues.
Certain widgets don't work
"OK Google" Doesn't work. Mic icon is soild and it says say OK Google.. but then the mic icon goes hollow and the voice command doesn't work. Hotword detection is on and English US is selected.
GEL
This one works without any problems on stock 4.2.2 , "Ok, Google" works. Also tried this launcher on my Note 8 tablet. Also, no problems at all. Probably will work on any device

I can confirm #2. Don't really want to install the old version of the GEL as per T1RaeL's post, would rather wait for this to be fixed. Hotword detection is not a huge issue for me.

Lg widgets work with lg launcher only so weather widget for example won't work with other launcher. "Ok google" works (tested in two different g2) but phone needs to be unlocked. It won't wake up ur phone unless it is a moto x. Neither the version I posted nor the one that is posted by the guy above. It is always listening as long as the phone is awake and u are not in any application (i.e game etc)
Also confirmed that LG weather widget does not work on with the GEL launcher. In addition, my wallpapers are squished. Hitting home from Google Now does not bring me back to the main screen, unlike the Nexus 5's launcher.
'OK Google' works when you have the offline speech recognition pack downloaded.
If that still does not work, LG's KK update turned on the 'on screen phone' in accessibility, which interferes with hot keyword recognition.
Please let me know if others are experiencing the same issue.

[Q] some questions

Just recently bought n5.
Is quick settings really like this? Normal wifi press takes me to listed wifi, and long press turns it normally. same goes for bluetooth etc. Been on a cm11 and its the other way around.
How do i get that "say ok google" back on homescreen google bar? - its lost now leaving with old jb mic look. Turning speech in settings off makes it kitkat look mic but no ok google.
Ive not rooted yet. Any ideas?

Yes, it's normal behavior of stock rom(quick settings).
If you're using the stock google now launcher then the search box should be placed on every homescreen.. Unfortunately, you can't use "OK Google" command with other launchers..

if it doesnt say "say ok google" on the search bar anymore, that is normal, it eventually goes away. as long as you saying ok google still works.

"OK Google" hotword detection bug

My phone is a Droid Maxx. After the last Google search update, I decided to deactivate Touchless Countrol and activate the "OK Google" hotword option in Google Now and checked all the boxes including the one that listens "from any screen." Turns out this setting causes a conflict with the microphone when trying to record video. I tried both the stock camera app and the Google camera app. Disabling this in Google Now restores functionality.
The ironic thing is that after re-enabling Touchless Control and re-training my "OK Google Now" launch phrase, "OK Google" also works. The only reason I dropped Touchless Control was so that I could make my Maxx consistent with my Nexus 7. Net result, missed recording fireworks last night.
Thought I'd pass this on in case it hasn't been mentioned before. I got my solution from another forum on the Mini.
Regards...
I had the same prob and this fixed it, so thanks... Although, you'd think the functionality between the 2 would be worked out at this point.

Google Now app

Yo, I'm not getting the function in the Google app where you train tbe voice command and can select whether you want to use Ok Google on any screen, the lock screen, etc. I only have one switch that says "From the Google app." I know in the past with other phones the other options would grey out if you had an issue with play services or the microphone, but I dunno what's going on here. Those options just aren't there at all.

Is your Stylo rooted?
Do you have a custom ROM?
