---------------------------------------------
Most of these apps were requested by users. You may ask me for update or fixes. You may request apps for Gear and I will consider them if possible
Thanks

Get well is very handy, I'm bad at remembering meds.
Drink water is a good idea but it needs the option to remove mistapped entries.
I have installed walk up add it seems a great idea but not actually tried it yet.

I am missing 1 very helpful app/function I had on my Pebble over everything else so far, which is a simple way to send text from my phone to the watch. This can be a to do list or a shopping list. Pebble had Evernote integration, but even though I saw it announced for the Gear, there's no such thing yet.
Even syncing w/ Google Keep would be nice or if all else just a simple enter text on phone, send list to watch function.
Bonus if I can get tick boxes to check off list items as I complete/acquire them.

Any chance of getting the voice search part of Google now?

I would like a way to respond to hangouts even if it's from a preconfigured list of responses

Evernote is coming to Gear. I think developing similar app won't be competitive after the release of Evernote. All users would go to Evernote.

2 Apps and/or functions I miss from my Gear 1
Google Authenticator
Symantec VIP Token
thx

I have released new app: vSilent

DrinkWater updated and fixed Sunday bar chart. Now it supports Ounces
G-Neon updated with minor fix (possible battery drain and restoring screen brightness to default)

New app published, vRecord
Turn your Gear into camera viewfinder and capture photos or record videos from your gear. You can also, record audio files

great apps.. Thank you very much
Few suggestions below:
vAlarm
1. Can you please provide an option to have one time alarm
2. Option to setup weekdays like Sunday - Thurday
3. Facility to setup multiple alarms
4. Ability to close alarm with swipe down motion
vRecord:
1. Increase the image preview speed (maybe by decreasing the preview image size)
2. Facility to change camera pic resolution
3. Flash on/off/auto for camera
4. Option to see audio or video recording in app itself as gallery does not seem to refresh. Or you can put it in corresponding default media folders

Very good points for wvAlarm. I want to release v2 in few weeks. I will do my best
For vRecord, the app doesn't perform automatic media scan as I wrote in the app description. I tried to do it but code didn't work so far. Other points are good and coming soon

[APP] Visidon AppLock - Mobile face recognition for Android

I noticed that there is some discussion about this application in this forum, so I decided to make an official thread.
The description from the market:
Fast, convenient and cool way to protect your mobile with face recognition.
Protect any application (i.e. SMS, Gallery, E-Mail, Facebook, etc.) on your phone using face recognition. Convenient and cool way to increase safety of your private apps and content.
Visidon AppLock lets you choose the apps to be protected. Your face is a key to open them! Application uses the frontal camera of your mobile and verifies in real-time that the face matches the one allowed to access the private apps.
NOTES AND TIPS:
1. You must have a front facing camera in your device to use the face recognition feature. Otherwise it is disabled and you are only able to use password verification.
2. This application was developed and tested with Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 and Acer Iconia A500. User experience may vary with other devices due different hardware (e.g. camera etc.).
3. In addition to the applications you wish to protect, you should also add Visidon AppLock itself and any application that can be used to close or unistall applications or services (task manager, settings etc.) as well as any application that can be used to install new applications (market, myfiles etc.) to the protection list to get your mobile fully secured.
4. If the preview image is upside down or sideways, please try to set different camera orientations from the settings tab.
5. The default security level is medium. If it seems too low (i.e. other people can get in too easily), you can set it to maximum from the settings tab.
6. The most accurate recognition will be achieved when all the training images are taken directly from front (i.e. no profile images etc.). Also, you should take training images in different illuminations (in those environments where you usually use your mobile). Sufficient amount of images per person is about 5 to 10.
Btw. this app requires at least Android version 2.3, since we use the frontal camera API.
Link to marketplace: https://market.android.com/details?id=visidon.AppLock
Remember to watch the youtube video! It gives you the basic idea about how to use it.
Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FVWmeuj3T4
Any comments, bug reports, suggestions etc.?

Tasker is an automation app for Android. It's really useful. For eg: if your app had Tasker integration, I could say, write a Tasker profile to disable the lock when I was at home, or when I performed a certain gesture.

What do you mean "per person"? Does that mean I can add more than one person's face as a key? That would be neat!

It's more about that Google doesn't allow.
This is sort of gray area. I understand why you want to use rooted/unlocked phones, but it also enables piracy. Although this is free app, we still would like that the marketplace is the only distribution channel for this, so we won't be sharing this directly.
We are going to discuss this in depth and we might change our distribution politics, but don't hold your breath
Is it possible to protect launcher/home app? For example I can't see launcherpro in app list, when I try to protect it.

Hmm. If the app can be started from the launcher, you should see it.
Anyway, there are some issues in this. I addressed them in the previous thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15667199&postcount=38
heres the file for direct dload from the original post for those (like me) running custom ROMs and get an incompatibility message on the Market.
/h2
It would be awesome if you could make it use the rear camera if there is no front one. I don't have an FFC but it would still be cool to feel dorky and turn my phone around to unlock things. If it isn't a big deal to add that, it would be a great way to expand your userbase even if we don't have quite as accessible functionality as those with FFCs.

The app isn't available on my Market. I'm using a Brazilia Motorola Atrix.
what about an unlock screen?
Ha. An unlock screen would be cool.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
runs fine on HTC EVO 4G w/ CM7_#121.
ability to use it for the lockscreen would be slick.
Running on thunderbolt mostly well have it set to always run as service and not keep unlocked when screen on, every once in a while it stops running randomly. I wonder if its because I have too many apps locked? Add this to lock screen and I couldn't ask for more

Unfortunately, Google keep is not available at the time being for developers .
I really like the app, but there is a major flaw in it.
The enter does have a new line on the watch. while it has in the app.
So if i have a note with contents
Test1
Test2
Test3
It will be on the watch:
Test1 Test2 Test3
This is not right.
I tried all the notes apps, but all have the same problem.
How can i make a shopping note like this????
Please fix this!!!!

I am already working to add the checklist option. In more detail you will have the option to add items with checkboxes in order to have the ability to check things off and have each item in a new line. IMO this approach solves your problem right?
No I prefer notes. Because also all Todo lists app have only one line for a task and long text will be cut off and still be useless.
A note app just has to have some simple formatting otherwise it will not be readable.
This is what I sent with Tasker to my watch, a weather forecast...
Current weather:
Fair, 19 C
Forecast:
Sat:
PM Thunderstorms.
High: 27 Low: 16
Sun:
Mostly Sunny.
High: 22 Low: 13
Mon:

High: 23 Low: 13
Tue:
Partly Cloudy.
High: 23 Low: 14
Wed:
Mostly Sunny.
High: 24 Low: 16
---
These kinds of formatting is just needed in notes, won't you agree?
Is the problem not simply a replacement of new line chars with eol and nl chars?
Here is an example of my current ToBuy list:
Technisch:
-GMicro USB kabel, kort
-HDD 3,5"
-Switch, TP-Link, Mediamarkt
TL-SG108 8port gigabit ethernet switch
Kantoorwinkel:
-Schutbladen
Outdoor:
-Schoenen, luchtig
Hema:
-Gasten handdoeken, Hema
Diversen:
-Kussens
---
I now sent this as a notification to my watch. But i really want a note app than can handle these formatting.
it would be great if you can make it sync somehow with google keep
never the less its the best note app available yet on tizen !!
thanks maan
Unfortunately this is not possible at the moment. But every feature you like could be added. What would you like more for the Gear side of the application?

If not Google Keep -what about some other cloud syncing service? Dropbox/Box/Copy? Evernote? Would be nice to add a note from my browser or if my wife could add to the grocery list via browser.
I did find another note app that did the checkboxes, but they did it so that each note was a single checkbox and not a list w/ checkboxes. Please see if you can do notes that have lists w/ checkboxes.

"My Notes in Gear" currently supports cloud synchronization through Dropbox. So, every change in your notes list is instantly available to all of your devices. For example, you could install the application to your wife's device so that she could add a grocery list etc.
Also, I'm working for the next update, which apart from some bugs fixing, it will have the checkbox feature. In more detail, the user will have the option to create multiple notes, with multiple checkbox items in each note. The checkboxes could be checked from the Gear.
Do you have any other suggestions for this feature?
Thank you for your feedback!

For adding new lines the Android text must be converted to html code.
In practice will this result in:
This is a test<br />
With a 2nd line<br />
<br />
En Een 3e regel.
So the enter chars must be replaced by <br />.
I test this in my notes and then the note will be show correctly on the watch.
And for those who can not see the html coding: "<" br / ">" (without the ")

Text file viewer and editor for Gear 2
Check out APE Pad for the Gear2. (Search for OutOfNoWare in the gear app store)
It allows you to View and Edit notes directly on your wrist - without even being connected to the phone!
It uses a new handwriting recognition technique that works extremely well on the Gear2.
As a general purpose text file editor you can use it to create checked lists, shopping lists, todo lists and much more.

[List] Working Sideloaded Android Wear Apps (Not Maintained anymore)

THIS DOC IS NO LONGER ACTIVELY MAINTAINED!
Sorry for this, but real life took over and managed to take so much of my time up that I’m no longer able to verify and test stuff on my own. Besides, since Android Wear 6 a lot of things changed and I’d have to test all of these apps again.
Greetings dear Android Wear users!
Today I got my LG G Watch and I'm just amazed by the capabilities of that watch so I thought I'd create a list of all working sideloaded apps.
For everyone who doesn't know: Sideloaded Apps are .apk files installed directly to the watch via ADB.
Since Android Wear is technically the same and the specs for every watch are also kind of in the same range this list will most likely apply to your own Android Wear watch too, even when it's not an LG G Watch.
Please report any weird behaviors here with the keywords mentioned below to make things easier for me to search and add to the list.
--------------------
Useful Links:
Apps2Wear - Directly install APKs onto your watch via your SmartPhone
How to Sideload Apps onto your Android Wear device (YouTube)
Easily download any APK file directly from the Google Playstore
Easily launch apps from your watch
Un/Install Android Wear apps (Google Docs)
--------------------
The list of all sideloaded apps working on Android Wear can be found on Google Docs (to make things more simple for me to update).
------------------------------------------------------------
CLICK HERE TO SEE THE LIST (Google Docs)
Will be updated over time
------------------------------------------------------------
Want to help?
If you want to help making this list bigger and better please write the following keywords into your reply/report so I can find things easier and faster:
"Tested & Working" - App install works and application is running and starts without a force-close.
"Tested & Crashing" - App installed but crashes/force-closes at start up.
"Tested & Report" - App installed and runs fine but is unusable (e.g. GUI is too big, example would be Temple Run 2)
This makes my work a whole lot easier and my thankfulness for you even bigger
And now: Have fun testing!

Probably not SwiftKey (minuum is probably best suited to wear anyway), and definitely not WhatsApp. If you look at the guide by Corbin Davinport on pushing APKs to android wear, he says that he found that apps that require internet connection do not work. Therefor, WhatsApp wont be able to directly connect, as you would design the app so that it works through the devices Bluetooth connection to connect to the internet. However, I believe the developer of Wear Messenger has an app that lets you access WhatsApp through text messages, which then allows you to use WhatsApp from wear messenger.
The second point of this post is directed at OP,
In the google docs, it lists "Don't tap the white tile" as partially working and intermittently crashing in certain game modes. Once again referring to the guide by Corbin, the crashes arise whenever the app try's to show an ad. If you go into the settings and disable banner ads and only allow popups, you can get to the end of the game without the app crashing. It probably will crash at the end though if it tries to show an ad as this tries to connect to the internet, and that causes apps on wear to crash. One would probably be able to fix this by decompiling and recompiling the application to remove ads.

hi,
for information i'm the developer of a companion app for android smartwatch.

Since yesterday i'm working on adapting it for wear.
Besides it's own feature, it has a specific feature that could make many more apps working on wear: it has a remote clipboard feature that allow to set the clipboard on the wear device from your phone.
They are many apps that don't work on the wear because they need text entry: this would allow you to type the needed text on your phone and paste it in those apps.

They are many apps that don't work on the wear because they need text entry: this would allow you to type the needed text on your phone and paste it in those apps.

Nike wouldn't side load but c25k free did but never worked. Still looking for comparable running app.
Nokia Here maps works offline on watch, but only Sony smart watch has GPS atm. And change of density required to be able to start navigation.
I tested Terminal emulator and it is working well with minuun keyboard.
So far I have the following sideloaded and working on an LG G Watch
NES-FC Lite (NES Emulator)
QQplayer (video player WITH BLUETOOTH SOUND!)
ES File Explorer
Astro Bluetooth Module (to transfer files from phone->watch)
v1_Bluetooth_Arduino (to control my garage door connected to an arduino/BT Shield)

sure: LG G W R
Just got my LG Watch G and I tested all sorts of apps after installing the "Ghoma rom", below are some of the apps not on the list I tried.
Tested & Working
Retry
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rovio.retry&hl=en
Game complains about missing Google Play Services but if you "ok" the prompt the game will load and seems to be fully playable. The built in "ad" button that opens a ad to view and earn coins does not work. You must earn coins the hard way in game.
EDIT: The game seems to be usable once every boot, in my case I had to reboot the watch to play the game again.
Tested & Report
Speedtest.net
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest&hl=en
The app loads but doesn't do anything because there isn't system wide internet access.
Tested & Crashing
Youtube
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.youtube&hl=en
Crashes and fails to load anything.
Keepass2Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=keepass2android.keepass2android&hl=en
There are two versions of this app, regluar and offline. I tested the regular one and it crashes and fails to load anything.
8-ball Pool
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.miniclip.eightballpool&hl=en
Crashes and fails to load anything.
NHK World TV Live
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.nhkworldtv.android&hl=en
Starts to load but crashes complaining about internet access.
Starbucks
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.starbucks.mobilecard&hl=en
Crashes and fails to load anything.
ICE
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.queader.ice&hl=en
The game doesn't even seem to try loading, no crash message. But it causes the screen to rotate till it silently crashes in the background.
Angry Birds Friends
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rovio.angrybirdsfriends&hl=en
Loads to a black screen and just sits there. Required putting the watch to sleep with the palm gesture to exit.
2FA apps
Was disappointed to see these crash on start:
Google Authenticator
RSA SecureID
Not really surprised, but it would have been nice
babelmonk

Gear S2 app wish list

Alright guys, let's hear it. So far the app catalog on offer is quite simply appalling. Granted, you don't need a lot of apps on a smartwatch to provide a great experience, but there's some obvious things missing for now.
Here's my wish list for a full package.
Messaging apps: Whatsapp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger. I don't need a fully fledged app, just the possibility to send a NEW message, not just reply.
Music apps: I use Spotify and would love to be able to scroll through my playlists and the other ways of selecting music. Not just basic music playback controls.
Sleep tracking: There is an app in the store, but looks so amateurish I find it hard to trust it.
Shazam: Would love it!
Google search...: I wouldn't even care that the speech to text would be handled by S-Voice, but give me a way to quickly search something online. Cortana/Siri/Google Now style
I would add these to the list:
Navigation: Being water resistant, this watch would be perfect to keep track of your speed and bearing while sailing. A GPS speed app and a simple Compass app would be lifesavers.
Web browser: One can dream...
Productivity: A decent pdf reader (the one in the story is nearly unusable)

I understand the Navigation and Productivity, but why would you want to browse the web on a tiny watch screen?

Besides the cool factor, i reckon having a web browser would reduce the need for some apps. For instance, we would be able to go on facebook and send messages, use online RSS feed readers like feedly, use WolframAlpha, browse forums, etc! Obviously, using a web browser on such a small screen is bound to be a cumbersome experience. However, on those rare occasions when you cant take your phone out of your pocket (either because it's inappropriate or because you're afraid it will get damaged or lost) having a web browser on the gear s2 would be pretty useful!
Navigation using Here Maps is readily available, but I hope we can get google map or waze available too for navigation....

Will receive the gear s2 in a week or two. Would love to have...
Paypal
Whatsapp and/or Line
Spotify
UBER
tasker (with widget), whatsapp (view conversations, reply, create), alarmpad (/set phone alarm, with tasker alarm) gmaps (preferably without companion app), google now Ù
I saw on the spec sheet it has a barometer, I have the 3G version on Verizon, I would love to have (as mentioned above on the first):
Speedometer - as I have an old diesel truck with a speedometer that doesn't work, been using Ulysses Pro
Better Weather App - Would be nice to see the barometer measurements within the weather app
Internet Browser - For those with the 3G version, would be nice on a rare basis, although I agree it would be cumbersome, having the functionality would be nice.
Google Play Music All Access - I pay $10/mo for Google Music, would be nice to have support for that, but I doubt it ever will since its not Android Wear
EDIT: Just looked through the Gear App Store, I see there is a barometer app now available, my bad.

remote camera control
i only wants a countdown app, like the "final countdown" on android.
plus one (or more) watchface, witch count down till the date / time witch i added.
It would be pretty useful for me.
remote camera control. I also use Handcent and currently the app isn't compatible with the S2. I get the notification but have to read it and reply from the phone. For that reason, I had to switch back to the stock messaging app which I hate. Handcent is totally non-responsible on the issue (well on any issue it seems). They quit answering questions/concerns on their facebook page. They now have a google page but you have to request to join. Been waiting 2 1/2 days to get approved to make a comment.
Better KeyBoard
maybe not considered apps, but...
have Wake Up Gesture option: Last Viewed.
ability to add custom ringtones (for 4g model).

Oreo battery settings...Launch???

I just upgraded to Oreo and am wondering what the Launch setting under the Battery section does? With Nougat, I really liked the feature to close apps when the screen turned off. I am not sure what this Launch setting does??
It's clearly written there. It manages, whenever an app can launch, or not based on patterns.

Hi,
How did you configure the settings. Since the update to Oreo I am only getting 3 hours of SOT which is very disappointing.
In general, if I do not want an app to be running in the background or starting on its own i will choose to m it manually an deselect all options?
How do you handle apps that you do want to receive notifications from?
Thank you.
Go to settings -- launch
You can either let the system decide which way is more power saving (manage all automatically) or you can go at the top in setting - launch, it says manage batch manually.
For example
Facebook : auto launch : secondary launch : background launch
If you check auto launch, the Facebook app will run in background as soon as you turn on you system. If you don't check the box, the app will remain stop unless you tap on it
If you check secondary launch which allows other app to wake up Facebook app, if you don't check the box the app will not wake up by other app
If you check background launch, you allow the app to run in the background. If you don't check the box the app will stop after several minutes after you close it( save your battery).

Sorry just extra information, if you still feel the battery drains to quickly, do check at Battery Usage Click Facebook and Terminate App.
This based on my experiment as previous build (360) was okay, but this one (362) a battery drains so noticeable.
I notice that even if you set FB restricted from running background process, it's still running.
Thus, drains your battery much quicker.
As it consume about 138.46 mah which is the highest among all of my app.
Second highest is instagram (114.84 mah)
Other app was below 50.00 mah.
After i terminate it, i can easily reach 2 day ++ (wifi, data but not heavy), 1 day ++ (moderate use : fb, surfing, call, etc), 25 hours ++(heavy : gaming, movies, fb, youtube non-stop)
Only certain apps I manage it as Automatically, others by Manually (uncheck all box).
You can see in the picture attached.
Hope its help you !

Thank you both for the suggestions. I'll give it a try and report back. If I do manage an app manually and uncheck all three boxes I won't receive any push notifications?
I don't use the FB app, battery drainer.
I just use the address: m.facebook.com to launch the mobile version of the site. If I need the full version
I just click the hamburger, check the use full page.

After you close the screen, it'll automatically stop or terminate any background apps. But sometimes depends on the app. Like whatsapp, joox or some of my apps only need to clear the recent apps. Try and experiment. But for fb as i said earlier, after you use it please do terminate it manually.

I use the app Fella for facebook. It work very well and there are many configuration options.
The worst thing it does is prevent internet access to your applications in the background. Even using the Android JobScheduler API, with "SetRequiredNetworkType", and "Enable background data" set for your app, you'll still get connection errors from any code that is run from your scheduled job if the app is not presently in the foreground. It's a horrible feature for app developers to deal with, ugh.

You can't. And even showing a screen prompting or showing users how to do it, can get your app banned by Google Play.
EDIT: My response here was short-sited and premature. You can do something about this, as long as your app meets certain criteria.

Thanks, but if we don't show a message to warning user, they may not know this issue.
Have any function to check the device is current managed automatically or manually?
I just want to show a message in case it's managed automatically.

It looks like you can do it, as long as your app meets an acceptable use case for battery optimization white-listing. If you can tick that box, you can fire an intent REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATION to directly prompt the user to add your app to the whitelist.
