Hello,
yes this has probably been a problem to many people, but I couldn't find a solution for my case.
I flashed a ROM and forgot to backup my files before, so now my whole photos and files I need are gone.
I am looking for a solution to restore deleted photos on my nexus 5. I obviously can't use generic recovery methods because, well, I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer.
is there a app / method to recover deleted files directly on the nexus (over adb?)?
Paid solutions are welcome too!
Check this thread, has a topic on OTG, which happens to allow mounting as usb storage. Might do the trick.
Hmm the OTG part is about mounting devices on the nexus. I want it the other way around, mount it on my mac and run recovery software on it.
Any ideas on that?
Can't be done.

Yes, I am currently trying a option cross linked in that guide.
I'm taking a raw image of my data partition to my mac and will try to restore data there.
Steps taken from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705. Although for windows, but finding the needed tools for mac is not that big of a task.
Will report if I have any success on this

Yep, we always love to hear a success story. Thanks!
This Data Recovery enables you to recover lost photos, videos, documents and more other files from your nexus 5, you can have a try.

You've mentioned, " I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer", actually, you could apply to some app that could identify your device directly.
Here is an Android Data Recovery Mac that may help. You can also google other apps if you need.
Hi, I currently have my nexus 5 in 4.4.4, and I'd like to try Android L, but I want to know if there's a way to create a full backup of my phone, like an image, so I can go back to 4.4.4 with everything as I left it, including apps, contacts, images, and all that, my phone is rooted, so I guess there's a a way, but, would it be possible to restore it if I'm already in Android L? thanks!

Your best bet would be to take a nandroid backup (which will go to sdcard) then connect in recovery and adb pull the entire /sdcard (which is /data/media/0) to your pc. Then whne you want to go back, adb push it back.
Click the link in my signature. In there you'll find a thread about adb and fastboot if you're unsure about adb push and pull commands.

No probs.
The good thing about adb is you can push and pull files to your device, even if you cant get into Android.

That would be the "nandroid" part of the solution I suggested. This will not backup the sdcard though
Yes u ri8
Bt i suggested an easy way.. & with the help of some apps like titanium backup or my backup he can restore all things..

Another way you can do is install Gdrivesync and sync your /sdcard partition to your Google Drive account. It won't replace the files on the phone but this will enable you to be able to recover lost downloads. You can set it up to have it automatically sync every x hours and it's nice too because if you accidently want to install the latest update but it wipes your whole phone including any backups, at least you can get your data again and just have to set up your apps.

Hey, I was doing some research, but all the tutorials that I find talks about GooManager, CWM or TWRP. I thought there was a way to create the nandroid backup manually, if not, which of these would you recommend? after that I would pull the entire sdcard I guess right? thanks!

You can investigate adb backup. Never used it myself so not sure what it includes

The only thing that has worked consistently for me is to grab what you want off the /sdcard and copy it to a pc. Then a nandroid of the rest of the phone. I've had mixed results with adb backup and backup apps.

Hi,
i had root my O+7 pro and didn't seen the warning that it's wip datas ...
is there any way to recover theme?
Thanks a lot in advance
You can try disk recovery from the play store and give it root permissions, but I can't say if it will recover anything. But to be fair, there were warnings given when unlocking the bootloader, etc about the wiping of data. So possibly a hard lesson learned
Always backup... Backup... Backup... Even if just doing an update. Since you are rooted now I would get titanium backup and do a backup before any update or flashing that u r not comfortable with and back up to Google drive or push to an OTG also back up ur sdcard files by manually moving to an OTG or use twrp to backup data to an OTG... Preferably before u set a pass code or pin securities. Hope u can recover bud.
i'll try the first solution.
in all the case i'll use a good backup solution after that. and i know, i usualy alaways backup but idn, this way my brain had decided it was useless *facepalml*

No other idea? even through adb or a soft, even not free solution? :/
i don't understand why nothing work
i had almost writte no data since i had root, and my phone has 256Go
even by writte a little with the root process and install 3 app, i couldn't writte 256Go so... why nothing work? why realy no data is found? that's not strange? :/
Maybe you can dumb and pull your userdata partition to an .img file via adb to your pc and then use softwares like recuva to recover data on windows, i don't guaranty it will work , but it's Worth the shot, i tried it one time when i had the OPO (i changed to f2fs partition without backing up and lost everything) annnnnnnndddddd...... no i found nothing lol, but maybe you can find since it's a different type of format i guess" but worth a try

There is no data found because it is encrypted.
All phones that ship with Android 6 or higher have user data encrypted by default from first boot, without the user enabling encryption.
This is intentionally designed to protect against data recovery by an attacker.
Even if you don't use a PIN or password, Android creates a random encryption key to secure the data. When the phone is wiped the keys are deleted making it difficult to recover data without said keys.

that's a good news that people can't recover datas from a second hand phone
but... does it mean it's impossible for me? 0% chances? or is there a maybe complicated but possible way?

Not possible. The encryption keys are protected by what is called hardware-backed encryption. The Snapdragon chip binds the keys to a specific device so the data can't just be copied to a computer and recovered. It would take a major security flaw (that hasn't already been patched) to get through this system.
It is designed to be very secure. It is also used to protect fingerprint data and Netflix DRM.

Thanks a lot for your help!
Hi,
Since a few days I'm unable to see any data in my phone via gallery or file manager or any application, and I'm unable to save any data to internal storage. (example: I'm able to use whatsapp for texting, but I can't receive/send any audio/picture and I can't access the old ones).
And I keep getting this error message:"com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication keeps stopping."
I don't know if that's what causing it or if that's just a consequence of not being able to access internal storage.
I can still see all the used storage from settings though.
Phone has unlocked bootloader, but no root/custom rom/recovery.
I saw other Oneplus users started getting the same error these days... (I have a Oneplus 6, but others have different models like Oneplus Nord).
Someone resolved by wiping system and they were able to retrieve storage content and functionality, but they lost apps data, I'm trying to find another way since I have an unlocked bootloader.
A user on stackoverflow suggested I should clean the com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication app data to regenerate the database, but I couldn't figure out how to do it
I tried cleaning media and media.module packages (not media.MediaApplication) from adb but no luck even if successful.
I tried removing "com.android.providers.media" (not media.MediaApplication, I couldn't find that one) folder from data/data with twrp file manager but no luck...
Is there a way to specifically clean "com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication"?
If anyone has any other suggestion on things to try, post it here please.
Have you modified any system settings recently? Or might be just some unorganized drivers.
Conect pc and make bakup your stuff...
Then on settings make Factory Reset...

2. Are you rooted.
if it was recent there is a chance. Limit ur phone usage and do not download anything if you want s chance.

Well, with unrooted it’s much much harder. You can try the “dumpster” app. There is more advise form the video above. Try it all, and if it doesn’t help, idk.
