I updated manually, now I will get OTA normally? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had rooted my nexus last week and, after I rooted my nexus,
I get a message from my system to update from 4.4.3 to ----> 4.4.4.
so I press install, and he started to install, after 25~ seconds, my nexus said: "error". (because of the root...)
because of this I decided to updated manually through: "toolkit" and the root will be gone.
I download the 4.4.4 from google's website: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, and "toolkit" updated my nexus to 4.4.4 and the root gone.
now when I will get a message to update system I will be able to install normally?

Yes, you should be fine! What was your error? I'm rooted, custom kernel and recovery and the OTA installed with no problem.

You said previously that you flashed the factory image. If that is the case you have nothing to worry about.
As far as the L update I heard this fall!

Just root and enjoy the phone. L official release is months off....you can flash stock then in minutes and take the OTA, or flash it through fastboot when the time comes and forget about the OTA.

[Q] 4.4.3 keeps failing to install!

Hi everyone. About a week ago I got the 4.4.3 update for my Nexus 5. I was on vacation than and had very poor wifi and very poor data connection so I could not download it. Once I got home, I got the notification that there was an update so I downloaded it and than it asked me to restart and install. My phone is rooted so it booted me into ClockWorkMod Recovery. I read on the bottom that it said "Signature verification failed" and than on the top it asked me if I want to install the untrusted zip file. I said yes I do want to install. So when I clicked yes, a bunch of stuff came up on the bottom including the file name for 4.4.3 and than after that it just said "installation aborted". I looked online for solutions and one person said to go into clockworkmod and navigate to the option for signature verification and make it disabled. I did that and booted into my phone and the update notification would not come. I went into my settings and into about phone and clicked on system updates but it just said that "your system is up to date". So I am still running 4.4.2 stock right now. I dont know if this matters but I do have xposed framework installed and I have gravitybox and snapshare modules loaded on. I have a lot of tweaks from gravitybox. Is there a way I can get the latest version of Android for my Nexus without having to go through this process. Thank you all.
Dirty flash vomer's stock 4.4.4 rom via recovery.

What he said ^ I would read how to do everything before unlocking bootloader/rooting. You simply uninstall xposed framework (if you still have stock kernel/radio) and flash the OTA update. then reinstall superSU and custom recovery. when you reinstall xposed all your settings are saved.

Ok so I uninstalled xposed framework and I restored my volume mod but I am still not getting the OTA update. I am on 4.4.2 right now so now I am going to flash the OTA zip file of 4.4.3 which is this one:
KTU84M from KOT49H -

I want 4.4.3 right now since I am leaving town soon. Once I get 4.4.3, should I go ahead and install 4.4.4 or just wait for the OTA update

You can flash KTU84M and if it succeeds then wait for the OTA or again flash KTU84P to get to 4.4.4
OR
Just dirty flash vomer's stock 4.4.4 rom which will bump you up to 4.4.4. It's up to you to decide.

But your op post said that you have twrp so why not just use it to side load the zip.
Your phone will eventually get the update. Just be patient, or flash the zip in twrp. Those are your two options.

As much as you don't like our response, thats just the way it is. If you truly cannot wait for the OTA to finally come to you then sideload the zip as posted before.
OTAs roll out in stages and intervals, not everybody gets it all at once. It has always been this way since the beginning of Android. Be happy that you're not getting the OTA, there is battery drain in 30O actually.

Issues sideloading 5.0.1

So ive been racking my brain for the last 2 hours trying to figure this out and im still stuck. I just finished unlocking my boot loader on a completely stock nexus 5 running 4.4.4
i used this methodfor unlocking my bootloader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cOUseflKNE
I then downloaded 5.0.1
785a2f7af3718dba7e569decde8b6c4dc476a309.signed-hammerhead-LRX22C-from-LRX21O.785a2f7a.zip
i then tried side loading the zip using this method
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvch38KDmTk
but i get one of 2 messages, no device found or waiting on device. nothing happens either way
i then tried
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-upgrade-your-nexus?pg=4#content
and got the same message
what am I doing wrong or missing. My boot loader is showing as unlocked
You have to upgrade to 5.0, and then sideload 5.0.1 on top of 5.0. Or you can flash the 5.0.1 factory image.
EDIT: The messages you're getting are probably because you don't have the correct ADB drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
I re downloaded that version of adb and im currently downloading 5.0
I got it! I did what u said and download 5.0 and restarted my pc and everything worked, Ill try to sideload 5.01 later
Why flash the 5.0 image just to flash the 5.0.1 OTA when you can just flash the 5.0.1 image?

Don't think he flashed the image. I think he applied the 5.0 OTA via sideload, then he's going to apply the 5.0.1 OTA in the same manner. Doing that will allow him to not wipe his data. Kinda makes sense since that's how Google intends for it to progress if he just waits for the updates.

Google intended things to be easy with OTA, not optimal, imo.

Stagefright update (LMY48B->LMY48I)

I bought a Nexus 5 (refurbished) from Freedom Pop. I can't remember what version is came with, maybe 4.4.4. First thing I did with it was install CWM (6.0.4.7) and flash the Google Nexus 5 factory image (5.1.1 / LMY48B) and root the device. Now that LMY48I is out, I got a OTA notification about a system update. When I try to do the OTA update, it fails. So I downloaded the update zip to take LMY48B->LMY48I from http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/10/download-nexus-4-5-6-7-9-10-ota-stagefright-patches/ . I boot into CWM and install zip, but it fails with:
Package expects build fingerprint of google/hammerhead/hammerhead:5.1.1/LMY48B/1863243:user/release-keys; this device has google/hammerhead/hammerhead:4.4.2/KOT49H/937116 Instllation aborted.
When I go to Settings, System, it shows I have LMY48B. Why does the install think I have KOT49H? When I flashed the factory image it did it not update some file somewhere and if so, how can I get that file to accurately report what I'm running?
Thanks,

You must return to stock before you attempt to install that zip. That means you cannot be rooted or have custom recovery in place
I've got a stock N5 I bought from Google on LMY48B and there's still no update for me.
Does anyone know what the roll-out timeline is for the LMY48I?
When should I conclude that I'm not going to get it OTA and resign myself to factory wipe and flashing the image?
I have a stock Nexus 5, rooted w/ cf-auto-root, re-locked , no custom recovery or bootloaders, and all i see is Error when trying to install this OTA. I'm stuck at the moment myself. Installing the OTA should just unroot my phone, but it won't install. Currently running on 5.1.1 (LMY48B) myself.

I have the same problem her as well with my nexus 5 it keeps saying error with little droid I've tried side loading manually but it didn't work also tried hard reset and wiping cache but nothing solved the problem so i just figured out the problem is the package it self
Same problem here
Same thing here, error with little droid picture on rooted android 5.1.1.
Has anyone found the reason for this ?

This method is for anyone with lmy48b that's rooted or has a radio, kernel or recovery custom flashed.
Condensed version but here's the important pieces. You will lose root if you are unrooted. You will not lose any data or settings if done this way.
Step 1. Download lmy48b from google
Step 2. Unzip lmy48b package
Step 3. Copy bootloader, radio and system.img from lmy48b package (unzip zipped file for bootloader and system.img)
Step 4. Connect phone and boot into bootloader
Step 5. Type in fastboot flash recovery [recovery].img replace [recovery] with the actual file name
Step 6. Type in fastboot flash radio [radio].img
Step 7. Type in fastboot flash system [system].img
Step 8. Reboot
Step 9. Update via OTA
Working - confirmed

Tried to install ota update after reverting to stock recovery using Simple Recovery Switcher app. However, also the error message, with little Android picture also appears. Please help
I assume this removed your root, though.
It seems we are getting a new factory image en september to properly solve the stagefright bug
"A second patch has been sent out. "We’ve already sent the fix to our partners to protect users, and Nexus 4/5/6/7/9/10 and Nexus Player will get the OTA update in the September monthly security update"
I have decided i will stay at 5.1.1 untill Android M maybe september also. In the meanwhile i have disabled MmsService and OTA.

I'm with you, not going to try to flash these things, there are a few zip files out there dated a couple days ago, apparently the zips aren't tested prior to release since everyone is getting failure when flashing the zip file.
Is there really no method to apply OTA updates on rooted/modified devices (e.g. modify the update.zip itself to bypass whatever checks it performs)?
Same problem here- only had a custom recovery and root. brought back the stock recovery and did full unroot from SuperSu.
OTA update installtion stops with "Error".
Just flash the system image from the update.

I guess i could have flashed the new version just the same.

my phone running 6.0.1 not 5.0.2, anyway what is the solution ?
Ota updates can only be installed on an unrooted system with stock recovery unless the ota update has been compiled for flashi via twrp.
It is asking for google and you have omni.

so, is there a way to install this ota update manually, without unroot the phone and wipe twrp recovery ?
Why would you install a Google OTA when you are obviously running a custom ROM?
Wait for the developer of that to update, or revert back to stock.
