I upgraded to kitkat from jb, rooted with towelroot and sed motopocalypse to unlock. Read dozens of forums saying that we can't use jb roms on kitkat. I've tried slimkat and eclipse and both failed.
Are there any roms at work with the kitkat bootloader?
can we get back to jb with the newly unlocked bootloader?
thank you for reading and any help you may have. until then ill keep burning the midnight oil sifting through pages of forums looking for answers!

I did some extensive searching of these forums and the web, but I have not been able to find an answer to this question:
If I install CM 10.2, which has Android 4.3, on my Verizon S III will my bootloader be permanently locked like the 4.3 OTA update?
I want to try out 10.2, but I want to be able to go back to 10.1.X if I don't like it and still be able to unlock my bootloader.
I've read all the horror stories about people that took the 4.3 update and bricked their phone trying to go back to 4.1.2 and I just want to be absolutely sure that won't happen to me if I install CM 10.2
Thanks in Advance,
Joshua

No, the locked bootloader is only in the 4.3 touchwiz official update. Flashing any custom rom does not have the potential to lock your bootloader.

I recently swapped out my S3 using asurion (put it completely back to 4.0.4 stock and everything checked out) and the replacement came with 4.1.2 (so thankful :good.
I've already rooted my phone to get my wireless tether back and am looking through a few ROMs.
My question is:
I remember when looking at kitkat roms before I cracked the screen on my old one, it talked alot about repartitioning being necessary during the flash. If I upgrade to a 4.4.x ROM would it still be possible to ODIN back to 4.0.4/4.1.2 if I decide I don't like the new ROM or if I have to send the phone in?
I'm talking about a custom 4.4.x ROM not the stock/Locked BL 4.4.
I did a search and most of the results were for people who had locked BL. I do not :highfive:
Also if anybody wants to weigh in on ROMs I'm all ears.
I haven't found any TW Kitkat roms that I liked, so I was looking at CM11 /AOSP roms.
Thanks!

As long as you don't take any of the locked bootloader roms aka the the new TW 4.4.2 rom or any BL roms you should be ok to go backwards.
From my CM11 S3
Apologize if this has been answered, I quickly looked through the relevant sections and stickies and came away confused.
I currently have a Verizon S3 that has an unlocked bootloader and is still on 4.1.2 (some debloated stock ROM). I'd like to update it to a newer version of Android, but do not want to get rid of the unlocked bootloader. From what i've read, that means I cannot flash any TW 4.4 ROMs.
I'm confused as to whether I can flash any of the following:
- a TW 4.3 ROM, e.g., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591895
- an AOSP 4.4 ROM, e.g., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400577
I have no interest in upgrading to lollipop fwiw
Thanks!
EDIT: thanks a lot, installed the TW 4.3 ROM with no issues

Heh I cracked the screen on it when 4.3 was still a dream, so I gave it to my parents to use wifi-only. For their use (basically chromecast and traveling abroad) 4.1.2 sufficed, but I thought some sort of updated OS would be nice from a security perspective.
Hi,
It's been ages since I've been in the s3 rooting community. I'm trying to root my friend's SCH-I535 that's on Kitkat, and I haven't found any guides. In the end I just want Cyanogenmod on it. Any threads that can help me out?

If its on the OTA of 4.4.2 NE1 then rooting is your only option besides safestrap. Custom roms are no longer an option

towelroot will work to root your phone if the kernel build date is prior to July 2014.
From what I have read the version of the Towelroot site does not work. I spent some time searching this forum and found a download for v3. Unfortunately I don't recall which thread it was on.

I have version 3 for towelroot. Saved it nearly a year ago just in case

Towelroot all the way, bro. I downloaded it from the TR site back in February. Works like a charm. You can't get a custom ROM, but I highly recommend Xposed for customization
Only custom ROM is SUPERLITE and Paul Pizz, both of which look like stock. SUPERLITE should be getting a s5 update *hehehehehehe*
Although I couldn't find any root methods for my galaxy S5 active I seen something about downgrading it to 4.4.2 to use towelroot. I ran into an internet problem trying to download the firmware, fixed that. Then Odin started having problems before it started downgrading. Is it possible to downgrade? Its running the OF3 bootloader and after doing some research I found some people saying it's locked and impossible to downgrade. So is it possible To downgrade a SM-G870A running the 5.0 lollipop update with the OF3 bootloader? Or is there some kind of root available for it? Or even someway to unlock the bootloader without losing all my data? I've been trying to figure something out for 3 days straight now.
Thanks.
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
After reading this thread, it seems that you can't downgrade to Kitkat.
Please feel free to open a new thread in your dedicated Q&A forum. New solutions may have been found...
Good luck!
