App Ops on L - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to get app Ops on preview Android L?

i think thats a goner but I do know xprivacy will be updated for Android L. Its much better than App Ops for a very small amount.

App Ops works fine on Android L. Tested using my personal superuser mod that includes app ops, didn't change any of the code that worked fine on 4.4, so one of the other methods will surely work.

The main difference is, I have baked the App Ops stuff into a Superuser apk which I have in /system/priv-app in my ROM. It's not a simple shortcut like a lot of the App Ops enabler apps.
Found via a quick Google: https://github.com/theblixguy/AppOps/tree/master/apk
Seems like this guy basically did the same thing. So grab the apk, push to /system/priv-app, set permissions to 664 (he recommends 777 which is not necessary but will also work), and reboot (might not even need to reboot).

Someone has made it(by installing a shortcut-apk into /system/priv-app/ )
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.findsdk.apppermission
There will be no difficulty for the AppOpsXposed to support L provided that Xposed works on the ART-only L.

reading that thread looks like the patch isn't "sticking" though.... they're doing it without the GSF patch and maybe that's the problem?

Thanks for taking a look at this issue. I have reviewed these changes and it makes sense why the "DPI Hacked" versions that I posted are not "sticking". The only problem I can see is that the version of GSF in this thread is not matching either the official "20110828" or the official "20120317" ICS version of Google Apps. When I compare GSF versions, I get a lot more changes than just seeing a one line difference in /GoogleServicesFramework/smali/com/google/android/gsf/checkin/CheckinRequestBuilder.smali. Can you tell me what version of GSF was used? It says 2.3.7, but its not the same as my version.
Also, all the changes made in your DPI modified version of Vending.apk seem ok, except, I'm not sure why there are changes to res/menu-v11/actions.xml and some of the other resource files. The "cleanest" way to package this is to copy the modified classes.dex into an unaltered version of Vending.apk. This way, apktool will not do anything funny to the resource files and doing a file comparison will not show a bunch of unwanted changes.
I would also like to mention that these files will not work for ICS or any DPI other than 240.
Attached are my logs of the file comparisons to the original versions. Thanks.
Is this one working with ics?
Got the .15 version working with 182DPI and it doesnt revert using density modder.
Tried some from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580827
But does not stick.
Seems you also have to install the GSF for it to work.

I can confirm this as well on Nexus S (240dpi) with AOKP M5. I never use Talk on my phone though so for me it's an acceptable bug.

The GSF apk has "signature" protection enabled in it's AndroidManifest.xml. You could either change "signature" to "normal" so the protection is disabled, or you could resign the other apk's (such as talk.apk) so the signature matches. For example, if I modify GSF.apk and sign it with my "test key", then the signature protection within the apk will only trust apps that are signed with the "test key".
This doesn't seem to be working for me. I cleared Market data, copied both APKs and rebooted, and now I have the latest Play Store version but still I can't install a lot of apps -- mostly they don't even show up when I search on the phone.

[APP][GPL]SecDroid - Android Hardening [BETA] [Hiatus]

SecDroid V 1.1 Beta
Created by x942
Released under GPLV2
PROJECT IS ON HIATUS
New project over here
Introduction
SecDroid hardens the android kernel by disable certain binaries that have internet access or can be used as an attack vector. Some of these are:
SSH
SSHD
Telnet
NC (net cat)
Ping
PM (Package Manager - Can't install apps via CLI/ADB)
ADBD (ADB is disabled until reboot)
And by securing the TCP Stack using Systctl (Until Next boot).

More info
Why disable ADB and PM?
ADB and PM are both disabled to help prevent an attacker from being able to install apps via the command line or adb shell. Both of these are potential attack vectors. You can install apps via the playstore and GUI

x942 - Thanks for letting me know this is in the works - looks really promising. With things like SSH/SSHD being disabled, will apps (like Connectbot) still work, allowing for SSH/SSHD on a per app basis?
Does this just disable these things during the current running session?
IE after rebooting it does everything go back to normal?
If not is there a way to enable them again?
I have to assume that it's a good thing if the application wasn't able to find any of the noted application to harden.

I assume it's not a good thing because the applications are missing (which is unlikely) or they are moved to a different location

So the "hardening" is only applied after running the app and upon next boot everything should be back to normal correct?

Sadly no. The apps are disabled by removing their permisions to execute (chmod 000). This means no one can run it. I suppose I could have it set to only allow Connectbot to run it based on UID or something. But something like Droidwall or AFWall+ is better suited for that. I am planning to add in a switch for each item. So you could for example leave ssh enabled but disabled everything else.

Correct. I have tested on CM9/10/10.1 and AOKP on both of these if it can't find anything then they aren't present in the system. Stock roms may be different. All AOSP should all be the same though.

Are these vulnerabilities dependent upon whether USB debugging is enabled or disabled?
...and will this interfere with Apps that require USB debuggin enabled such as Titanium Backup and Gemini Apps manager.

The only vulnerabilities dependant on USB Debugging is Kos' p2p-adb. The rest prevent network (remote) attacks. Some of which could be used over ADB but don't depend on it (installing malware). I have not tested with TB but it may break it. I am trying to make individual on/off switches for each option so you can only disable what you want to and leave the rest alone
I have posted a Play Store link now too!

No, you are not "safe". All the things are not located in system/xbin, but in system/bin! So the pathes which the app checks are wrong...
Under system/xbin are many many links, but the real "files" are located elsewhere! So the dev should chance his app so that it can check the right locations

I checked and scp is located in the system/bin folder. All the other ones though I cannot find. Here is a screen shot of mine.

Can you also include in this app ARP, DOS,and MITM type of attack protection. That would be cool.

Oops looks like I messed up and uploaded the wrong version I will fix this. Originally it did use xbin and also disabled more things (bluetooth and NFC) but I corrected this as most users don't want those disabled. I will post the proper APK With the proper paths. It's alread compiled so expect it in a few min.

I can include these I will do so in a future update.
Fixed the issue. It doesn't give any errors on CM10/10.1 on my N4. Path is now /system/bin for the binaries that are there and xbin is only used for a couple binaries that are only in that folder.
Also moved repo to github as google code is annoying. Update also pushed to Play Store.

Barclays bank app running on rooted phones

The Barclays mobile banking app was working on rooted phones until the last update, there is a few work around but the easiest way is to install the last update & unclick auto update in Google play. This is for anyone who has already made the mistake & updated already I can help.
Please don't mirror the download, if you wanna include this in your post just include the link to my post, thanks.
1. Uninstall your app.
2. Download the last working update below.
3. Open & update via a file manager (something like root explorer)
4. & the most important thing.... thank me on this post (Optional)
5. (Optional) Give the bank app a email or comment on Google play so we might get future updates for Rooted users like I did!

He does deserve credit & if anyone wants to use his way they can go there, I'm just helping out like we do here on Xda forums, I had the same problem after updating & used my own solution which I provided in post 1, uploaded your own apk isn't mirroring, all my info was my own also my apk. You don't need the guide to make this work like you did, you just unclick auto install & use the 1.3.3 version like I did, I reinstalled mine from titanium after I found the new update unusable on my rooted device.
sent from Tapatalk2 via my Supermodded S3 using UltimaRom v13 & running Boeffla v2.12 beta7 kernel
Your method will only work if they already had the data for the app, but yet there is no mention of this, Fresh install will require the above guide and considering there is no mention of "having to have it installed before" or "how to fix barclays mobile banking app" then it implies that this will make it work on rooted phones just by downloading your APK when this is simply not the case.
Also i know uploading my own apk isn't mirroring however technically it is as the CRC would be identical on both APK's and it seems kinda stupid saying don't mirror but yet they can easily upload the same APK and you wouldn't know.
Changed step 4 to optional due to the comments lol.

I cant get the Barclays mobile app to work on my rooted experia z does anyone know if this method still works?
I tryed to install this old version of apk but it doesnt work on rooted phone
@ x7nofate did you try this way which I wrote under here? Or may be if you clear the cache of the app? It will work?
@ xjacko the app still works on my rooted s3
Try install from the market, then open it up, it will say not supported on rooted phones or something like that, then Uninstall it, then download my link & copy it over to your phone, now find it via a file manager app (root explorer, es manager or something like that), install it (or push it to data/app via manager app & then reboot the phone) & then enjoy barclays bank app on a rooted phone, it's the version before so tick don't auto install from the play store or it will update next time you use wifi or mobile data. Or you can also use method 2 in this post by another xda member? Hope this helps you

Please help, I installed the Barclay's app 2 days ago and today I uninstalled it and copied your modified apk to data/app but after copying and restarting my phone the play store auto updated the app.
Now I have barclays-1 and barclays-2 apk in data/app . I've tried deleting my cache and dalvik cache and installing then reuninstalling the official app
I then tried installing the modified apk and restarting but the app won't appear in all apps, please help :/

woohoowoohoo!
Months ago I lost use of mobile banking on my rooted SG Note2, I only had Titanium Backup set to keep one old version, and foolishly ran a backup having auto-updated a bunch of apps and then realised the new version of BMB reported device was rooted.
I tried all sorts of things to get it to work.. I came across many guides suggesting what to do.. and none worked..
* I used the triangleaway fix to make device normal.
* I disabled adb.
* I disabled installation of non-market apps
* I tried hide root programs.
* I renamed the Superuser.apk app to something else
* I renamed /system/xbin/su to something else
* I ensured /system was read only.
* I scanned system and removed any files or apps which had the name "root" or "su" in them and thus might look like root.
I even got to the point where if it weren't for having an active root shell via adb I'd have lost root!.
but nothing worked.
Then I came across this thread. I removed the app installed from Google Play, downloaded the 1.3.3 apk from the link provided, and installed it.
Ironically downloading the banking app from a third party is perhaps the most dangerous thing you could do, and yet Barclays force you in to it!
At some point I imagine they will put something in the internet servers which will deliberately break 1.3.3 and force an upgrade
But in the meanwhile I am very very happy! I will no longer have to carry my PIN Sentry box around with me.

I now have a rooted Xperia Z Ultra, and I have done everything to make this work yet it still says device is rooted. I restored the app from my Note 2 which is rooted and where the app works; so there must be something unusual that the Xperia flags up to tell Barclay's app its rooted.
If you have any ideas, please shout out so I can try them out. I did all the things I previously posted when I was trying to get the newer app to work.
What kind of fool would access their bank account from a hacked program hosted on mediafire uploaded by an unknown person who cannot even say what it is they have done to make it work?

Where are App Ops settings stored?

Does anyone know where App Ops stores the settings for the toggles? I had toggled some permissions to off in 4.4.1, but bow that I updated to 4.4.2, I can't get back to it to turn them back on. I'd like to avoid re-imaging or installing App Ops X or Xposed.

Google removed it saying it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place
EDIT: You can use the Xposed Framework to get it back.

I know...and what I'm asking is where are these settings stored (in the filessystem) so I can revert the changes I made when it was working in 4.4.1. I specifically stated that I do not want install Xposed.

/data/system/appops.xml
The safest way to undo your changes is to go into System Settings > Apps > Reset app preferences. It will reset ALL appops to default. Otherwise edit appops.xml at your own risk.

I think the OP wants to keep system files stock.

Looking for a lockscreen app launcher

Team,
I have been searching for an app that will allow me to open an app (Note Anytime), from the lock screen. I have researched may apps that apparently can do this but I haven't found one that is compatible with my XZT.
So, has anyone found such an app that works with this kit?
Thanks

Install Xposed Framework and then install Gravity Box. It has what you want. Your XTZ should be rooted.

Thanks for the tip - but I cannot root the XTZ or I will lose SkyGo! I need an un-rooted solution.
Rgds
Not sure if valid but, Try widgetlocker from play store
