4.2.2 Update problems. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I am trying to update to 4.2.2. from 4.1.1.
I seem to be going in circles though. So I try to run the RUU from HTC site and it loads about 3/4 of the way through and then just disappears. On the website it says if I have problems manually do it from fastboot. So I get in to fast boot and try and run it and I get "device not enumerated" Which from hours of searching I get is a common error with this device and windows 8. To be fixed, guess what? you need to update....who woulda guessed. so im stuck. Please if anyone could shed some light on this problem it would be very helpful.

Which RUU are you running? Do you have access to another PC?

You don't know? You really shouldn't be attempting to run any RUU if you have no idea which one it is? Which variant of the device do you have?

UPDATE: I frankensteined a windows 7 computer. and the update went through just fine. but now I am having camera Issues. when opening gallery or the camera the phone reboots. all else is good. how can I tell if evita or Endeveraou.
its 4.2.2
sense 5.0
5.18.502.1
sdk 5.41

If it's the at&t model it's an Evita. In response to your earlier post, the at&t model is only one of a few variants of the Evita as it was sold worldwide. Does the camera open when issuing a third party camera app?

No I installed an alt gallery and camera app and they work fine

Not sure why the stock camera isn't working. You could try running the RUU again to see if it fixes the problem.

Ok, that's jb 4.1, not jb 4.2.
If you had SuperCID (which you most likely did) and s-on you've bricked your phone. There's nothing you can do now except get it repaired. You have two options: either jtag repair (about $60) or get HTC to replace the motherboard (about $200).
This just goes to show that a lack of education about what you're doing to your phone leads to disastrous consequences. Once you've had your phone repaired, do yourself a favour and either leave it stock, or do a lot of reading so you have a proper understanding of modifying your phone and the potential consequences.

HTC One X thinks its an HTC One XL

I installed ViperXL on my HTC One X and I was going to install ElementalX kernel on my one X and when it semi bricked I went through the viperXL installer and installed the Stock XL kernal and ever since then it's had a lot of random reboots on whaterver Rom I put it on.
I'm on CleanROM now for one X and it still reboots.
It thinks it's a one XL and I have no idea what to do.

evita pvt ship s-off rl
cid-11111111
hboot-1.14.0002
It is an AT&T HTC One X With Super CID and S-OFF
But the kernal Is what caused the random reboots cause it did not start till I simi bricked and I installed a XL kernal through the viperXL installer.
Im going to use the official RUU updater so it can reset back.
Just reflash the ROM and you should be fine.

Ive reflashed roms many times. Im pissed cause it keeps reseting and its annoying. So Im trying to use the official RUU Updater to see If that will work, Also my USB is not connecting to my pc corectly. I can only add music or pics from the htc sync manager and its ping me off.
Ok I'd suggest you try using the RUU then, but you'll need to diagnose why it isn't connecting properly via usb first, the last thing you want is for it to disconnect half way through the RUU process.
PS. I understand you're frustrated, but profanity isn't allowed on XDA.

I installed the RUU My TWRP was removed, but I'm still Unlocked, SuperCID and my S-OFF are still on, and my kernal version says 3.4.10-g310e8f1

My USB is now functioning as it should but it is now thinking it is a camera instead of a storage unit untill clicked on, Then I see internal storage.
And what is this wierd N in a square by my 4G?
Weird N = NFC. Unfortunately Samsung's had that for a while, and I think Sony and LG have to have that in their notification bar as well. It just means your NFC is toggled on.
Which is a real shame. NFC barely takes any battery power (unless you're back-to-back with another ICS+ NFC phone 24/7) and should always be kept on. Sucks that more space is wasted to the notification bar just to notify you that it's ready for action.

Hang on, ViperX or ViperXL? You have the Evita, if you flash ViperX you'll brick your phone.
You need to remember your phone IS NOT the HTC One X, it's the HTC One XL / AT&T One X.
Only ever download ROMs from our device forum which is here:

The development sections are here and here.
Don't ever stray from our forum.

Were you on an old version of TWRP? Because TWRP 2.5 was known to always fail flashing ViperXL and other ROMs (CleanROM and others). More recent versions of TWRP (2.6) work fine. So it may have been the fact that you had to re-install TWRP that made the difference.

[Q] Is 4.2.2 & Sense 5 update applicable to unlocked HTC ONE X (AT&T) ?

When I check for updates, it shows pop up "checking for a software update"
after that it just disappear and nothing happens.
I guess you can't get it that way then? Is there any particular reason you specifically want the official at&t update and not one of the already available custom 4.2.2 ROMs?

Is there any way to get official 4.2.2 with sense 5 ?
Bricking only occurs due to ignorance, unlocking a phone is perfectly safe, but it's your choice. If someone posts the update you can probably install it manually through the stock recovery, but this update looks like a two stage process so it might be more complicated.

That isn't the latest update. If it isn't there now I guess you'll have to wait.

I assume that you mean SIM (subsidy) unlocked, as the term "unlocked" is quite vague, and can mean various things (such as unlocked bootloader).
You will not get the OTA notification outside the US.
If your phone is stock, and you intend to keep it that way, that you will have to wait for the RUU to be posted on the HTC support website. Then download and run from a Windows PC with the phone connected by USB.

Ah no, I wasn't trying to imply YOU were wanting to do this, *I* am thinking about doing this simply because there isn't an RUU available and that's the only way I know of to get S-On.

If you are looking for warranty service you really don't need to worry about being back to stock......just fake it. Check out this thread. I did it, I am still s-off and unlocked, but it says S-On and Locked. No way any Verizon rep is going to dig deep enough to find that it is really s-off. Just flash the stock recovery, and delete superuser and any root apps, and nobody will ever know.
anyway to unlock after firewater and relocking, fastboot oem unlock is not working for me.
It is still unavailable now.

gives you a copy of the RUU with very good instruction. I soft-bricked my phone and got it back using it. You need to use SD card though, for some reason I couldn't do it through my computer.
