I live outside USA and using LG G2 with my local carrier. Is there a way to update the phone, as I am not a registered AT&T customer and I don't have an american phone number?
This works with any D800: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2662445
At least it's kitkat though it will definitely wipe your device.

If you put in a t-mobile sim it will work. You don't need to unlock it to use prepaid.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

If it is a G2x P999 it is a T-Mobile branded phone. T-Mobile or Wind Mobile in Canada are the service providers for this brand.

So can i just use a sim from tmobile then or do i still have to unlock it i got it with a 2 yr contract so i think it is locked
If you already have a prepaid sim card that works, all you do is pop it in the phone and it'll work.
If you have a bad IMEI, the phone will never work...it'll just be an expensive brick that can only do WiFi.
The only reason you unlock it is if you want to use the phone on a completely different carrier, or for international sim use.
I live in Ontario, Canada and just bought a $30 Sprint CDMA HTC Evo3d from across the border(Buffalo NY) that works perfectly.
Since Rogers acquired Sprint Canada in 2005, I asked on Rogers forum if Rogers can activate this phone for use and they said no as Rogers only bought Sprint "home phone and long distance"...So I guess sprint wireless never even existed in Canada.
Is there any way of activating this phone in Canada with any other carrier, if it is unlocked perhaps? I already got it to s-off...
...
Also, I found this list of Sprint international carriers so maybe one of those companies(Canada) I can sign on with, or are these just for roaming coverage??

I spoke with Bell support, they said Sprint can give you a code to unlock it over the phone so it can be used on a different CDMA carrier(such as bell)

Turns out you need the MSL password to access the EPST *edit* menu(CDMA frequencies and phone identity info for the new carrier to program in)
MSL can be obtained by ROOT app called "MSL Reader"
hope this helps someone some day
Hi.
I want to buy LG V10 H900 and use in japan.
Can I use firmware update by OTA in japan?
I have AT&T prepaid sim card.
I would think so since it's mainly done on Wi-Fi, but your best bet is to talk to AT&T International Customer Support

I live in Canada and using a unlocked AT&T V10, it wont let me upgrade to 6.0, you will need a active at&t sim card in you phone to get the upgrade
since for people who are outside of u.s the OTA wont work without an active AT&T sim card ya? unless you wanna get into the irreversible MM poop hole .. I was wondering , is it possible for us to get a AT&T pre-paid sim card and activate international roaming and then get it shipped to us ( by a friend) and then update it OTA? im just a curious cat :#
Sounds like a good idea to me. If it works, I'm up ?
Does it have to be "active?" Can you put in any AT&T SIM? The LG software detects both phones and updates the H961N OK but says the H900 has available updates but to do it on the phone. I have a H900(marshmallow) and a H961N (Nougat). I got the H961N for 3G support in AU with Vodafone as the H900 only EDGE and 4G on said carrier. I would like to update the H900 as other carriers are compatible in AU and I would still like to use it.
You need to be in US
I contacted AT&T after I read this thread. I was told that I don't only need an AT&T Sim card, I also need to have signals from AT&T towers (roaming wouldn't do the job.) So your best bet is to have a friend in US who owns an AT&T Sim card, send him the phone, get him to update it and send it back to you, which is too much of an effort. :crying:
As far as I know, AT&T doesn't have released 7.0 for the H900.
Hello. I was hoping you guys could answer my questions.
Let's say I bought an originally made for AT&T LG GSM phone (such as the V20) that was then carrier unlocked, and I took it over to MetroPCS (or T-Mobile) and activated it there.
Now let's say Android security updates were produced, or an update from Marshmallow to Oreo was produced.
Would the phone get the update(s) or not get the update(s)? And who creates the updates and pushes you the updates at that point? AT&T, LG, or T-Mobile? Or does Google push the updates when the phone is on wifi?
Furthermore, does, for example, buying an unlocked T-mobile phone assure you that you'll get updates if they exist if you use that phone on MetroPCS? On the same token, would it behoove you to use an unlocked AT&T phone on Cricket, etc?
And lastly, I see carrier unlocked GSM LG V20 phones on ebay that were original locked to a Puerto Rico carrier. Let's say I tried to use that unlocked phone on T-Mobile in NYC. Would there be some sort of GPS block on that phone that would say "hey this phone's not in Puerto Rico!" and then prevent it from updating somehow?
This is all very confusing. Thank you.
So here's this supposedly great and active forum, and not one single person helps me. Thanks guys. Appreciate it lol. I'll show myself out.
