[Guide] How to install Google L keyboard on your rooted device - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

Thanks to @bejunk
As seen here you can get the files to add the Google L stock keyboard onto your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796129
you have to manual install.
1. extract all files.
2. move the ''LatinImeGoogle.apk'' to /system/app; long press on APK, choose change permissions, now make the ticks like in attached picture.
3. move the ''libjni_latinimegoogle.so'' to /system/lib; like above, long press, & change permissions.
4. reboot system, then go to settings & activate keyboard

What do i change the permissions too? I've never actually done this type of modding. Thank you.

That would be to 3 reads and 1 write permissions
Root explorer is what i used

I just flashed the zip from the original thread and worked like a charm

How is it compared to the current Google Keyboard?
BTW your thread link is broken.

Link fix and the keyboard is nice and flat

I also flashed without an issue, and yes, I uninstalled Google keyboard first. It is part of the instruction set, you know... And I'm not one to take chances like that

This worked great. I love the look and it seems google finally figured out how to give more word choices. Does anyone know if there's a way to enable the long-press secondary keys? Its the one thing that slows down my typing.

Or simply use the .apk for non-rooted devices. That's been working great on my rooted device.

Uninstalled Google Keyboard first.
Flashed in Safestrap recovery.
Worked.
I managed to change the theme to material, but is there any way to get it material white?

Does this keyboard have the numbers across the top or are they long press?

I believe a third party person has published an app for it. Dunno how much I would trust it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.shenye.android.inputmethod.latin&hl=en

Can someone please post the permisions needed for "libjni_latinime.so"? I went and changed them thinking I was changing "libjni_latinimegoogle.so" :silly: And seems due to my error, I cant get the new keyboard. Instead I get the old version.
Thanks :good:

What about rooted but no recovery?
My S5 is rooted but doesn't have a custom recovery because I don't plan on doing any heavy modding, like flashing ROMs or anything. The 'no-root' apk didn't work, but I can't flash a zip... What do I do?

Did you get some kind of error message when you tried to install the .apk?

either way is fine, once you're in a "message" or on any screen that will open the keyboard, once its open tap and hold in the text area till you get a pop up asking what "input" to use, and then select the keyboard of your choice, i would flash it though, i flash install everything lol.
I did the "regular" way that you said (the input method) and it was force closing. That's what I meant by it not working lol. Does it work for sure if I flash it?
I installed both ways. It works but fc when I choose vibrate option.

Yes flash it, and u should be ok. Like I said I have yet to see issues with it, but I flash install everything.

Themed calc and clock

Hey guys, I've just been learning how to theme so I wanted to share a couple apps (mainly for testing purposes). I am on cleanRom 2.5 which is odexed and I didn't deodex these before theming them, I just took the apks and changed the pngs, then I just replaced the apks in /system/app and changed permissions and rebooted. They work fine for me but I would appreciate if someone else could try them too

The past three days I've been googling, trying to find tutorials, trying to ask people but I could only get bits and pieces here and there so I don't know how to do a whole lot yet, just some of the easy stuff. It really isn't too bad once you start. I'll see if I can make a little video tutorial on at least what I know how to do and it should be a good start for you.

The only thing I am interested in theming is the "DigitalClock.apk", and I cannot for the life of me get it installed afterwards.
I have followed your tutorial and I have tried taking the finished, unsigned system apk back into the /system/app folder with the odex file and it still will not work.
I am running stock/rooted/vralhd odexed.
Could you please help me?

[REQ][MOD]Blackberry 10 Lockscreen mod

Can someone please make a Port of that lockscreen mod for infuse with JellyBean CM10?

I hope we can get yo use it
That doesn't look too hard to do, just a framework patch or two.
It says it may work with ICS as well.
I might give it a try when I get home.
EDIT:
VERY do-able by anyone who can compile. I have yet to find time to set up my box yet, but anyone who has been able to compile from JZO54K should have NO issues diff-ing this over.
Maybe this is the push I need to get cracking at building from source again?

If you're wondering where you can get MiLocker, it's on the Play Store for free. Download, install, download the lockscreen you want, apply.
Yea, what he said. Lockscreens can be searched, seen and downloaded from within MiLocker.
I checked the play store and the only mi that pops up is milauncher. There is an mxlocker but no mi. Guess I'm on an unsupported ROM or something?

MagicLocker Main by lockscreen.mobi is an app just like MiLocker, has an average rating of 4.3, and was updated just a few minutes ago to version 1.5.7. This is a good alternative to MiLocker IMO if you cannot find it in the Play Store.

A flashable zip of what? The OP asks if someone could port it.
Erm, I mean a flashable zip of the ported version . I looked through the original thread and find it hard to use the diff patch, so even if there is a ported version I won't really be able to apply it, hence the request.
No one has ported it for the Infuse.

[APP][4.0+] Android 4.4 KitKat Keyboard - Native Emoji

So I spoke too soon, here's another one that works:
LatinIME (Android AOSP keyboard)
It's similar to the current one and the Google Keyboard with the following differences:
Symbols menu is different (I don't see how, it just looks different)
Emoji section (Replaces enter in some apps, long press the bottom right key otherwise)
For emoji, I presume you need the font. If you don't have the font, I'm going to shamelessly plug my app

If it includes systemui.apk or framework.apk FlashGordan will bootloop since you can't mod those apks while running. Everything but framework can be manually pushed though. SystemUI.apk will cause the phone to go ape **** for a while and won't let you open you're root folder app. I can explain how to make it work If you want, it's kind of a pain in the ass though.

Naturally yes, you cannot use that then. You have to be rooted and have custom recovery console, is this because of the knox and warranty?
The bootloader is locked so there's no recovery and probably never will be.
I don't know much about the theming. Does this replace the apks and stuff or merge your new icons and colors?
