When moving from one kitkat ROM to another do i need to first revert back to stock first???
No, but I recommend making a backup first and doing a factory reset before moving.
No, just install another custom rom normally...

Hello,
I used Bubby's one step root to root my htc inspire 4g. After soft bricking it I was able to restore it back to the orignal rom. The rom was killing my battery so I decided to use ROM manager to flash another rom. I used coredroid and did not do a backup as I backed everything up in ROM manager and in titanium backup but I did do a clear dalvik and data. It downloaded the rom and went through the uploading screens and got to the rethink possible screen where it has been stuck for about 15 minutes now. What should I do? Should I restart the phone and maybe go back to the restore? Or how long should this go on? If it goes on for the night do I need to worry? Please help!!!!!

sice the mopment that you flash something without previous backup you need to worry mate....
maybe doing a full wipe and reflashing the rom solves it,,,, remember to do a wipe batery status after flashing your new rom
ahhh wow i basically did the same exact thing, i just backed up my ROM in ROM manager before installing the Coredroid 6.3 ROM and now I'm stuck on the Rethink Possible Screen... any help on getting past this would be nice!
Hey guys, its my first post and I tried searching the forums and google for the answer but didn't seem to find any.
I have the s3 SCHi535-VRLHE firmware and rooted my phone with through Noxious Ninja's walkthrough. During the process (Win7 4bit) after installing the drivers I let windows update update my drivers and cause a conflict with the 1.4.6 drivers. Should of stopped there but went through with rooting anyway (I know I'm a noob).
I have not flashed any custom ROMs after I rooted so my question is what's the difference between a factory reset vs. flashing the stock rom back onto my phone now?
Looking forward to reading and hopefully learning something from your responses!
Malik
A factory reset will just clear out your user data. You should probably put a stock ROM on your exSDcard, boot into recovery, wipe data, then flash the ROM. That will put you back to stock. Though you'll still be rooted and unlocked.

If I already did a factory wipe/reset is it safe to flash the stock rom onto that or do I have to root again?
im on cm 10 4.2.1 and im wondering if i would have to do a factory reset to go back to gb 2.3.6 rooted rom?
If it where possible you would definitely have to do a full wipe.
But anyways, you first need to odin/heimdall back to stock since your current file system is in mtd format
Finally was able to succesfully root my phone last night, and now I am wondering how to actually flash a custom ROM. I figured I'd start with Cyanogen since its the most popular and seems like a good starting point. So, I have a few questions.
1. How do I install the custom ROM? (Cyanogen in this case) Also, is this process the same regardless of what android version I have? (I'm currently on the stock 4.1.1 OTA)
2. Should I install a custom kernel? If so, is it the same process? Also, is my data wiped just the same as with flashing a custom ROM?
3. If I make a backup with Titanium Backup, will I simply be able to access/redownload my app data it if I redownload Titanium after I flash the ROM?
Any and all help is appreciated!

I'm sure everyone has their own advice, but I would say first thing you'll need is ROM Manager
Download the ROM you want and place it on your sdcard. Use Titanium Backup to backup your applications, and then restart your phone in Recovery Mode. When in recovery mode, make a backup by going to "Backup and Restore" > backup. Then do a factory reset and wipe your cache. Install the new rom and enjoy the addiction
Also...be careful making sure that any kernel flashed is compatible with the ROM you are flashing. If not you can brick your phone.

And don't forget to unlock your bootloader!

This. And read, read and read.
And backup your imei.

Howdy.
I've been using custom firmware since I got my phone over a year ago, but I'm now having big issues.
I tried to install a 4.2.2 ROM and couldn't boot, even after trying bunch of times, clearing cache, all that jazz..
So.. usually I would just put on another ROM or just restore from a backup, but I'm stuck in a weird situation.
I have a bunch of ROM backups (Clockwork Mod Recovery) going back to April last year, the 1st one is standard AT&T, then various custom ROMS (last one I used was Cynogen 10).
But I can only restore the first AT&T ROM, nothing else will restore. I also cannot even install any ROM the only way I can get a working phone is to go back to the horrible original AT&T ROM..
Clockwork mod recovery also crashes when I try to wipe cache, so think that maybe a clue....
Help!! I don't want to be stuck on AT&T ROM forever.... I miss Android 4.1 features
Thanks

What version of CWM are you on?
You can always restore to your AT&T backup, transfer all of your other backups to your external SD or computer, ODIN to stock, do a complete wipe of the phone, flash the most recent CWM from Sk8 and try again. I'd say that's your best case scenario.

I'm on 6.0.1.4 which I believe is latest. I can't even get the original ROM to restore now either. Ughhhh hope I'm not bricked.
