4.4 update questions - HTC One Mini

hi people
I have had a htc one and i updated ages ago to kit kat on three network, but not so long ago i broke the phone replacing it with the htc mini which I'm very pleased with as i prefer the size. Only thing is i brought a girly blue mini as it was a good deal for £200 brand new, it was unlocked and updated when i got it. today i found a deal on a brand new silver white version which i do prefer and pleased i brought it, but it was locked to EE which i unlocked for £2.50 from ebay what a deal.
I been trying to get it updated but found out EE haven't even pushed it through yet, can i flash this phone with a uk three Rom??? is this available??
Are all the phones the same apart from the custom network firmware and rom????
cheers j

[Q] Will uk vodafone be locked?

Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

The only 'bloatware' my original Vodafone HTC Magic had was a Vodafone Live! app, which only ran if you wanted to use it.

If my new Sensation arrives with no bloatware, I will make an effort to thank them on the Vodafone eforum. I like to let them know I appreciate it

Given how fast we are getting them, I bet they will just be direct from HTC to the customers! I hope so at least!
Re: rom updates. Can only go off when hd2 got released. We had to wait a fair bit for updates. Cant comment on other handsets. Sorry

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

Pretty sure if this is the case then the updates will come straight from HTC, but I'm no expert.

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall

[Q] Will the HTC One (M8) Or GS5 Be Best To Get For Custom ROMs From T-Mobile?

I have the Xperia Z1s and am waiting to see if the Z2 comes to T-Mobile in the next couple of months, but as much as I like the Z1s, there isn't even root for it. So next week the S5 and HTC One will be released and I'd like to keep it until the Z2 is released of some sorts in the U.S. I've read that the S5 will have a locked bootloader on T-Mobile but nothing yet about the HTC One. Any thoughts?

Lollipop at last

Hi Guys.
I've got a sim-free Note3 and I'm using an O2 sim. Yesterday the Lollipop v5.0 was pushed to my device.
Does anyone know if that means that I'll get a further update to 5.01, 5.02, 5.x sometime soon?
Thanks.
Steve
What is your csc?

If its an O2 phone you get the O2 update .
Sim is nothing to do with updates .
O2 Android 5 has been available for weeks .
Thanks guys. I've no idea what 'csc' is?
It's not an O2 phone, it's sim-free, I just happen to use an O2 sim with it - does that make a difference?
It might have been available for weeks, but it only got pushed to my phone yesterday.
Thanks
Steve
I highly believe we will get Android M update, officially.
@OP: Just enjoy the 5.0 update. There won't be any 5.0.1 or 5.0.2, at least not very soon. Cause 5.0 has been available for a lot of countries for over two months now, and there is absolutely no scene of 5.0.1 or 2, so better believe that those won't come. I am just happy to see that Samsung finally pushed an update which got rid of that delay while clearing recent apps, however that was just release for one country, but I am sure a wider scale of the same will be released soon.
Thanks guys! That's just what I feared. Just shame that such a great phone lags behind other, older models. My wife's Galaxy S4 is on 5.01!
A phone has a number of codes ( as shown in Kies )
Basically if its a O2 supplied phone it will have an O2 code and O2 are the ones that update the firmware if they want to .
Generic non branded as in UK BTU may or may not be in advance or delayed .
Who gets the upgrade first is very varied and over the years its varied from country to country getting first releases . Usually the non branded gets released well before the branded stuff .
Thanks. I'd read that sim-free unbranded phones were always LAST to get updates. It's confusing!

It is tempting considering I have the 16gb model as well. But I still have ample space left on my phone since I reserve gaming on my PC. I just have a few casual games to kill a little time while waiting in line or at appointments. With a 128 GB card inserted, I have ample room for some music, movies, and pics.
Damn, sold out already.

i just snagged one...thanks for the note
quick question...i think it comes with android 5.1.1 - i'm with sprint and using a gs5 and will replace it with this moto...when i received the moto, how do i upgrade it to 6.1 or whatever it should be now - without activate it on sprint first? or i will have to ask sprint to activate the moto with them first then take their OTA? my current gs5 is rooted and have the wifi hotspot enabled...that's all i want on this moto
checking on other threads, they said i'll need to request a bootloader unlock, then root, then flash another rom.
first time moto, first time using an unlocked phone here
thanks experts,
You do not need to upgrade to 6.X before flashing a custom 6.X ROM.

You should not have to install a SIM to update to 6.0 (current release for the Moto X Pure), just configure the phone with your Google account and you should be able to update via WiFi. And you may not need to root to enable hotspot on Sprint, since it is not a carrier-branded phone the native hotspot feature may work out of the box, or if not you can use PdaNet/FoxFi. Personally I would not root the phone unless you really need to for a particular function.
Thanks for info. I'm still waiting for the phone. Best buy sent a text sorry for the delay. Hopefully they're not canceling it ?

Yeah, hope they're not out of them (again) already. Fyi there is also the 32 GB version available for $269 from BB. For only $10 more the 64 GB is a better deal but if they're out the 32 GB is an option -- since the Moto X will accept an SD card for music/movies/whatever you don't really need 64 GB of internal memory in most cases.
.
I gave in and bought one also.
Even if the MXP 2016 is announced this week, it'll still be a while before its dropped and then a while longer before AOSP ROM's are available and stable.
Is there even going to be a MXP 2016? I thought the newly-released Moto Z was the replacement, and that is not what I want at all (USB-C, no audio jack, etc.)
Supposedly it's going to be announced sometime over the next few days at some electronics show going on right now.
*Rumors*
I'm pretty sure that the flagship for 2016 is the Moto Z, with the 3 new Moto G models making up the mid-line. I don't think there is going to be such a thing as a MXPE 2016, but maybe I'm wrong.
Man, awhile back like 3 weeks ago I got mine from best buy brand new 32gb for 250 ,black model ..plus additional 10 bucks off with visa checkout ..I guess I got a great deal on this since the refurbished is 279 .. I came from a HTC one m9 that bit the dust
That was a good deal for new, normal price for the 32 is $350 and the 64 is $399.
I received my 64 GB refurnished unit today. Condition was like new but they only included a lame ass standard charger, not the QC 2.0 charger that comes with the new units. Disappointing but oh well, they're only about $13 from Amazon.

I remember when my mom managed to snag the last stock of the 32GB X Pure from our nearest BB store for that price as well. I didn't even notice it was the 32GB one until I saw it on the cash register screen. It was probably the best deal I've seen for something of that caliber in a good while.

Slickdeals.net my friend ..that's the website I check religiously for deals and I happened to findd it a day after my m9 busted
It looks like these is in fact going to be a Moto X 2016, but it doesn't seem like anything we'd be interested in. A lower-spec phone (smaller screen, etc.) than the 2015 Moto X and probably won't be available for the US market. The flagship seems to have been transferred to the Moto Z.

The 32GB version is available today brand-new direct from Motorola.
Possibly with some restrictions though.
Ends 9/7. Motorola Store has the Motorola Moto X Pure Edition 32GB 5.7" Unlocked Smartphone (White & Silver or White & Blue) for $250 with free shipping. Select 32GB storage on the customization page to see the discounted price.

Sony 10 yrs old. Time for a change.

Hello
I am thinking of buying the S8 +.
My old phone is a Sony Xperia about 10 years old, so I am a little behind the technicalities!!
I am from the UK but working full time in Germany.
I am looking to get a phone from the UK and have it sent over.
I am assuming that it does not matter if the phone is bought in the UK and used over here.
Also, can I use the sim card which is in the Sony.
Last one: If I was to buy here can the language of the phone be changed to English.
Any advice much appreciated.

I can only answer one of your questions. I'm pretty sure you'll need a new sim card, the S8+ uses the Nano sim.
EU sim cards will be ok in a UK device.
Yes you will need a nano sim from your carrier.
Yes the language can be changed.
You'll be amazed compared to your 10 yr old phone!
That Sony a classic!?I sold my classic Motorola StarTac! ?
