What ROM is everyone using? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I just came back to Verizon from AT&T and in the AT&T G2 forums we had a thread like this...
This is NOT a best Rom thread... Just a poll to gauge what roms everyone is using for others to get an idea what's out there... If you select other in the poll please tell us which rom in the thread.
Enjoy! Keep it light and friendly and have fun!
I'll start it off by saying I currently bounce back and forth between stock and CleanRom.
If I forgot any in particular I apologize in advance... Please select other and tell us in the thread!
To the Devs of InsertCoin I apologize for misspelling it in the poll as InsertKoin

Hi my name is thunderbls and I'm a flashoholic... I have tried most every Rom, gpe, aosp on the Verizon forum as well as the general m8 but I keep coming back to viperone.

I'm a flashaholic as well..I switch it up about once a day. A few of my favorites I keep coming back to are insertcoin, clean rom, liquid and renovate. Viperone is a great as well.

Anytime..I almost forgot about bad seed customs rom. They did a phenomenal job. One of my favorites as well.

I use Clear Rom with
HK Mod
Jishnu's Camera
Extreme PS
Updated Adreno Drivers
HBoot red text fixed
My Tweaked Faux Kernel

I use the Stock Rom. Unlocked, S-Off, and Rooted. Run some custom mods. Sense Toolkit, wifi nag removal, Power Saver, Mobile Hotspot fix for Unlimited Data, OTA Killer, with Stock M8 Browser for auto fit to zoom text. The important thing is to use the Rom that you are going to be happy with the most, and I'm the most happiest with stock. I think I'm getting too old and don't want to bother with getting other Roms to work right. Everything just works on stock without any issues or problems. I have thought a lot about trying Google Play Edition Rom, but, correct me if I'm wrong, I would lose slow motion camera, most of the features of dot view including calls, some gestures like voice dialing, htc messaging which I love. But I would gain "ok google" google search, better battery life with minimal apps running, and photosphere.
In short, every Rom has there pros and cons. The important thing is to use the Rom that makes you happy.

I flash a new ROM every few weeks, but so far I keep going to Clean ROM.

I stayed stock for nearly 2 months. It was working great, but with my flashaholic past I just couldn't take it anymore. I read up on my options and was intrigued by GPE but went with CleanROM to keep some of the HTC goodies. However, I use the Google Now Launcher with XGELS to get the GPE feel. I use a combination of Sense 6 Toolbox, GravityBox, and other various mods for additional tweaks.

I've been using Viper for months now...but every now and then I feel the urge to switch ROMS...which I end up deciding against. I guess I'm reluctant to wipe my data, download/install the ROM, etc. (the entire flashing process) since I'm unsure as to whether or not I'll be content with the switch. I'm currently running Theme Launcher on Viper, so things are still going well, but has anyone made the switch from Viper to another ROM and never looked back? I'm not trying to create a post that discusses the best ROM, it would just be nice to hear some ideas I suppose.

ViperOne

Badseed has been everything I wanted. Good bit of mod options and some really cool color choices. I also bounce back to liquid every now and then. Liquid has been the best AOSP Rom for me. Tried a majority of sense rom's out there have been sticking with badseed since it got released.

Back on CleanRom for now still gotta give Badseed and BoneStock a try

for the flashaholics, is there any easier way of restoring settings and everything else? or just doing it manually each time
thanks

Titanium back up with apps and their data works for me. I have been using nova launcher so when I back that up and restore its all the way I want it outside of some system settings. I hope that is what you were asking.

+1 I use titanium for everything but system apps and settings... For home screen layout on stock launcher and settings I use mybackup pro
If I'm feeling brave I'll dirty flash but only over sense to other sense roms... I don't condone it cause it can cause issues but knock on wood not one problem yet doing this on the M8 so far
If you do dirty flash always make sure to have a nandroid and don't expect help from the roms devs as it's too unpredictable

Currently CleanROM. Before that it was BareBones and SkyFall.
I like the nearly stock feel and then either make my own mods, use other's mods or use xposed to customize to my taste; which is a minimal look generally dark with awesome icons and runs smooth.

[Q] ROM choice?

I was wondering what was a better ROM to use for the Infuse, ZEUS by dman, or the CM7 port?
I was using CM7 and tried Zeus 3, but ended up switching back. I didn't like it. When I saw the 5 version posted, I decided to give Zeus another try. Other than a brief GB stock try, I haven't strayed from what Dman has wrought with Zeus 5.2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
IMO Zeus is the way to go, everything works but HDMI and Dman's 5.2 build is rock solid and it's hard to go wrong with an Infuse native rom!
If you are new to flashing roms, gtg's Infused GB rom has a step by step flash guide HERE
And if you want to browse the other gazillion roms check out the superthread HERE

noob, new to flashing, took a stab ended up choosing zeus. rooted, flashed, odin to stock,"soft-bricked"(dog's fault),Gtg's odin recovery, flashed again(all without posting a single ?, not because I'm smart, but because these devs are!) I love it, am having some wi fi issues i am trying to figure out. Going to try other's, even the dman recommends, just to try, i am sure i will end up running with zeus.
ps dman sent you a donation and a pm(realize now u probably don't read them), but thanks for showing me how much I love my infuse!
I CAN FROM BIONIX TO ZEUS AND it's awsome, no freeze like bionix when you unlock the screen, altough when you get a call, it tends to not responsive on the first swipe, the second try will do it. i think it's lag
i just hope it uses less memory, it's about 200~250 when you start up the phone, so far so good
speaker on both roms sucks. i drive all day and i need speaker to be really loud, both are not load enough for me. anyone have any apps or hacks that turn your speaker up?
try the zeus 5.2 it's awsome
i flashed it over bionix without going stock.

Volume+ in the market works well for me on phone and tablet.
ZEUS is the only way to go, IMO.
I tried Zeus briefly, and if I had spent the time to fix the wifi I can see why so many people like it, but I love the look of CM7, and for my use it's been great, so I went back. If you want a stock rom, would vote Zeus, (might eventually go back to Zeus if bluetooth never gets sorted out on CM7) but CM7 is a solid port, looks good and flashes easy.

On my flash, it had issues, and from what I found on the 4000 page Zeus thread, there had been others having the same issue. I gave up trying to find the mentioned fix, sure it was there, just couldn't find it. I had flashed the ICS theme and hadn't liked the changes so I went back to CM7.
Next time I try Zeus, I'll go back to stock first as recommended on your install instructions, I'm sure I'll have better luck. Currently I'm waiting to see if the new old stock Gingerbread pushes Zeus to 5.3
rom review by a newbie user
I try this roms and Im more focused on battery juice and customability options...
Im heavy user not in things like widgets or music or videos, but I do make many calls, use mail and chat by whatsapp.
so I tell you my best (and tried) roms
caty 3.0 the fast in everything (reboot, display etc), perfect battery for smartphone, i have to use it with uckk4 b/c with newers modems no good work for my slow data.
zeus: its almost like caty for me, totally recomend specially for themes.
darkyrom, cool rom, love the touchwiz! customable, has the darky ota, an app that you can use to change thing, its like rom manager but with many options for download.
sauron rom, my current rom, i like it because of the fully customable options in power menu, settings, it is fast like darky, almost the same but with more customable options.
CM7, stable, nice boot animation, have the plus of everything the cyanogen team has to offer in a simple gingerbread launcher.
miui, I like touchwiz! I like it, the music, and themes! its so different and beatifull, but the battery issue its something important to me, the rom its not bad, remember that battery issues exist in all smartphones, but if you are not a heavy user, go for it!
I hope it helps you.
Remember that this review its just a guide, you have to try it by your own and see what it fits, you have to explore the personalizations options.

When you downloaded the darky rom? Did you have version 10.4 and in which case would you upload? I only have version 10.3 didn't realize that there was an update so I never downloaded it. A couple of different users were asking for it, so I looked and realized I didn't have the latest.
Also, because this is a port, the darky ota app does not work with this phone, and I'm PRETTY sure that it's not included... wouldn't work if it was. There's no hellraiser on the go.. lol.
If you look in the last couple pages of boost's MIUI thread, as of 2-15-12 anyway.. then you will see some tips to improve the battery life of MIUI. That should help you..
Before you make your rom final...I myself flashed damm near all the ROMs...gave the wife a headache... lol...
But figured I can honestly say I tried them....my final after many flashes...and lots of the wife rolling her eyes....lol

[Q] Your Favorite Rom

I made a thread earlier about my stock rom/s3 screwing up...
So I have decided to flash a new rom.
I'm primilarly looking for something super stable, 100% out of the box ready to go, minimal bugs(non that effect major elements 4g/3g, mms, calling.. etc)
There are so many new roms, and sooo much information on everything it's overwhelming.

I'm new to all this android (I use to own a junk iphone 4) I flashed the most popular roms cm, beans, liquid, etc.. Aokp is by far the best one I like. It's the most customizable. 4G works great, never dropped a call, mms works flawlessly, etc. Also, they just came out with a milestone. U have to flash them and try them all to see what fits ur preferences. Good luck..

Thanks, I'm not looking to try different roms really. I just really like to use my phone to make calls, txt, email, and light browsing.
I'm just trying to switch to something that is really well maintained/supported.

Stable Rom? Synergy r64. Can't go wrong with that release.
I have tried synergyrom and it was great. r77. had some locking up. I am a huge fan of the messaging app and a couple things that samsug uses. after using them it is really hard to go away from them. right now i am using cleanrom 3.1D. and it seems to be running great. i would like to add the volume up to change track but cant do so.. hmmm still trying to figure out how to add it.. thanks guys
For ICS touchwiz i loved Synergy, always stable and fast for me. For AOSP i love liquid smooth, again super smooth, super fast, etc.
It won't be long before this thread gets locked btw.
New Liquidsmooth from today is awesome. Been running Liquid Smooth since I got the phone for the most part.

[Q] How to get contants birthdays to show up in local calander WITHOUT syncing

I recently updated to CM10 from a superlight stock rom. I am getting to know JB and one issue I am having is that contacts birthdays will not show up in calender.
I refuse to sync with google and just can't get it to work locally. it worked on the old rom without sycning.
Does anyone know how to fix/workaround this?
Ideally I want a completely local calender/contacts app. I have no need at all to sync anything to google/cloud/internet and refuse to do so.
P.s. While I am posting a thread anyways, does anyone know of a good alternative to the stock samsung/ATT dialer/contacts/phone. I HATE the CM10 apps with a passion and best I have found so far is rocket dialer/DWcontacts and both fall short of the stock apps.
Thanks for any help.

I don't think you can on CM. The only way is to sync. I am not a 100% sure though.
If you desperately want this, install stock based ROM like embryo

I considered a stock based rom but prefer most features of CM over it. Only real catch points are the above mentioned dialer/phone/contacts and that the birthdays don't show up in the calender.
I much prefer some of the security features of CM such as being able to run PDroid. Along with being able to ditch ALL the bloat and build the rom to my specs.
Maybe I should see if this even works in the stock based rom, if not then it is a moot point anyways.

Interesting, I skipped over embryo before due to it being MASSIVE (think it was 650mb) and figured it had to be nothing but full bloat.
Why is it so large? I much prefer lightweight roms that are simple/direct over a bloated rom with tons of things I will never use. Can you cut the size down post install?
Right now I am on CM10 superlight and love the fast boost/lightweight of it.

Anyone know what the "actual rom" size is with the bloat removed?
Been looking into embryo and got to say it looks interesting. This does bring up another question I have never been able to find a clear cut answer to (messing with my phone is just an as needed hobby of mine).
What exactly can CM do that a stock rom can't? Besides the super compact/clutter free ness of it, what other reasons are there to go with CM over something like embryo from a purely technical standpoint? I could not find a clear cut answer to this when searching, so gave up and decided that CM must be better so gonna make it work.

ROM thread? You mean the section with all the ROMS in it that has Stars next to the thread title? I've been in that thread and it doesn't seem like a well organized place to find something stable. The information is there, but just not well organized.
You won't know if the Rom works for your phone until you tried them. If you can't find a Rom that works well on your phone then I suggest going back to stock. The reason I am saying this is because not everyone here have the same experience with the same Rom.

Id like to help you find a ROM that you like. This phone is so much better running it the way you'd like it to. Are you trying to run a stock based TouchWiz ROM or AOSP? This is very important as not many AOSP ROMs are completely stable. TouchWiz stock based ROMs however are very stable. I would like to suggest my ROM made off of the official ROM for our phones. It offers many very nice features which you can either choose or not choose to use with the Aroma installer. It's the forth release of the ROM so all the bugs have been fixed and the ROM is fast and stable. Please check out the thread to the ROM and read through it and see if you fund it worth trying. The thread offers a lot of good information about exactly what you will find in the ROM.

Thanks man, you are so kind! The only ROM i have ever used is Synergyrom and the last few updates I did with Synergyrom had some bugs in it. I haven't tried the very last patch though. One update gave my bluetooth phone static. This last ROM i am using from Synergy makes Dolphin crash but I'm not sure if it's due to the ROM. My google maps also isn't working either. It works but it only tells me to turn left or right but never gives me the name of the street that I want to turn on.
Anyway, all I really need from the ROM is something that allows Nova Launcher to work, Bluetooth without static, Dolphin without crashing, Google Maps to work by giving me streets names when it talks to me, and the ability to use Amazon Video on Demand. The Amazon thing might be a long shot though but that would be really awesome! I don't play any games on my phone, mainly use it for music and watching movies from youtube or whatever I download. Amazon on demand would be great though!
Edit: One more thing I forgot to add! They keyboard needs to be 1 handed operational. I forgot what it's called but I currently have it on my phone, the keyboard is smaller and moved more to the right so I can operate it with one hand. I also don't know what AOSP is so I really don't need that.

I personally really like jelly beans. Looks more like aosp but is touchwiz based.

Recommended Roms

I know this question is really subjective. I'm coming from the Note II and have not been in this forum more than a couple of days so I'm not famililar with the developers and their work.
I'm just not sure what Rom to start with.
Speed/stability. Feature Customizations, You know, General grovieness
Stock.

You literally described viper rom

If you want customization, ViperROM is the way to go. It is fast and has so many options and settings it can almost be overwhelming if there were anymore things to explore in their tweaks app. Has some nice themes (although many are not fully compatible yet) as well. For a stock ROM with speed and removed bloatware, I recommend Skyfall. It has been the fastest for me as far as stock roms go. Bonestock is great as well, I just had awful battery life on it (which was my fault but was too lazy to diagnose so i crack flashed something else. Just try them all and see what you like best.
Stock. Everything works and you never have to wipe for an update.

Viper.
Stock with xposed seems to do the trick for me

I've flashed BoneStock and have been really happy with it honestly. I really only wanted the bloatware removed and it did a good job of that.
I haven't tried any others yet though. Stock is actually really, really nice. HTC did a fantastic job with Sense 6.0.
A second vote for Viper! This ROM has been fantastic. Performance is much improved over stock, battery consumption has been lower, and there are so much customization that can be done through Viper One's tweak configuration (including enabling Power Saver mode which Verizon took away, performing an "auto hide" of the navigation bar, adding custom themes and colors, etc.). The devs of this ROM are also VERY responsive. Be sure to make a nandroid back up using CWM or TWRP before flashing any custom ROM, so you have something to go back to if you are not happy.
Was thinking about grabbing this phone, but what about those of us coming from stock Nexus Android? I see people recommending stock, but then dont you have to deal with Sense and stuff? Or am I just missing something?

I've run the Stock Nexus, and LOVED IT. I also got used to Samsung's TouchWhiz, I personally like HTC's Sense. Much like ROMS, this is a personal choice. I'm sure, once I see a CM or something like that I will give it a try to check it out. Sense is not like it was a couple of years ago. It Flies. Check it out, see for your self.

See if the stock will work fine for you. From there, you would know if you will still look for something better or new.
