When I go into Device>System>usr>keylayout>sec_keypad.kl I changed the funtion keys from:
key 59 MENU
key 60 HOME
to:
key 59 HOME
key 60 MENU
I then restarted the phone but there was no change to the settings. I went back to the sec_keylayout.kl file and it shows that the keys have still been changed but there is no effect to the phone at all. I've also downloaded the program called "Buttom Remapper" but the changes I make there has no effect either. I'm also looking for ways to remap the long press functions on some of the keys but I'm not sure which numbers represent those functions. I also know about "Home2shortcut" but that application only works with home buttons which this phone does not have. I also have my phone rooted but I don't know if its S-OFF or S-ON so i don't know if that could be a reason I'm having this issue. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Just checking to see if anybody has any idea on how to solve this issue?!?!? HELP???

Did you mount the system as r/w before making changes to the file? Otherwise, the changes won't stick. I use Script Manager to mount the system as r/w - edit the file- save- remount the system as r/o- exit and done. This always works for me. Also, there are a couple of good threads on here about remapping keys and alt layouts, there might be an answer there. I don't think being s-on or s-off has anything to do with your problem - I'm pretty sure that is an HTC thing and doesn't apply to Samsung devices. Perhaps your experience is already past this but I wanted to to try. Sorry, I can't be more help than that. Good luck!

Open Script Manager - select Browse as Root - choose "Always" when prompted. Next, press your Menu key - this will pop up a menu of options - choose Advanced - this will give you more selections - choose mount system as r/w - exit by pressing your Home button (leaving script manager running in the background. Now any changes you want to make can be written to the system. When done go through the options again to remount the system as r/o. This app also has a built-in text editor, so you can make and save changes from within.
Root Explorer and ES can do some of these things. I use ES to manage files sometimes but I'm not really sure about mounting and re-mounting the system. Script Manager for sure can do all this. Another option is to use terminal, either on a computer or an app on the phone. Here's a link to a guide.

Hope this solves your problem. Even if it doesn't these are still good things to know.

Ok so these are the steps I took exactly:
*Opened the Script Manager and gave it superuser permissions
* Selected the menu button and selected advanced
*selected the option that says "Mount/system as FW"
*then I went into Device>System>usr>keylayout>sec_keypad.kl in Script Manager
*Then I selected "text." But when I did that a screen popped up that read:
"you only have read permission with this file. do you want to create a local copy and edit it or open file directly"
*Then I selected "create copy" and when I did that a small Notification popped up that read:
"File RW permission denied, using a copy"
I don't know if you are getting the same notifications or screen popups as well but from what Im understand is that these popups are not good and its basically telling me that something went wrong during the mounting process. Any suggestion??
P.S. I also have a video of the steps if you would like to see

You were doing fine up until the point you selected to "create copy". At this point, you want to "open directly" so that you can edit the file. When you are done, save and your changes should stick. It would be wise to back up the original file somewhere. In case something goes wrong, you can always delete your mistake and put the original back in place.

-Navigate with a file explorer to /system/etc/init.d and change permission on both scripts to "777" it means mark the 9 permission options.
-Install Script manager from market.
-Open script manager, navigate till system/etc/init.d and run the 2 scripts at boot.
thats the instruction, but i cant seem to follow it.

There's ES File Explorer installed. Update to latest version in market if needed.
Open up app
Press Settings
Scroll down to root settings...
Check Root Explorer and Mount File System. If you fail to check Root Explorer, update to latest version of ES File Explorer in market.
Now that you got root explorer mode...
Press back till you go back to the file explorer.
Press the Sdcard looking icon on the row of icons. Its the leftmost icon in that row of 6 icons.
After you've pressed it, click into system folder
Next, click into etc folder
Next, click into init.d folder
You will see two files in there.
Hold down on the file (whichever first doesn't matter), then press properties.
Click Change in the permissions section, and then check everything.
Press Okay and repeat for the 2nd file.
After you are done, restart the phone.
After phone is restarted, go check to see if the permissions are changed.
thank you very much for the detailed instruction. i love this forum i tried em and it works
Is there a screen capture feature built into this phone? I'm currently running ARHD 3.6.4. I thought the button combo was power+home, but that just either brings up the power menu or tiled home screen. No screen shot.
I don't know but I'm currently using version 4.1.7
I can capture by pressing power button along with home (don't press power button too long)
try this on your room, it might work.

Negative,
as mentioned, Power + Home does nothing but tile the homescreen, bring up the power menu or put the phone into sleep mode. I've experimented with timing of the power+home key presses which explains the different results.
If it does take a screen shot they show up in the gallery right? Cause that's where I'm looking and no screen shots are in there.

I found the screencapture entry but when I try and edit and save (using ES Editor) I get an error: "Error occurred when trying to save the file. It will not be saved"
Before editing it directly on the phone I tried copying it to my SD in order to edit on my PC. When trying to move it back to the phone it said: File cannot be moved.
EDIT:
I just noticed the file does not have write permissions enabled. So do I have to copy to PC, then change permissions, edit/save, change permissions back and copy to phone again?

Both options are greyed out.
I tried to check the "root explorer" box and got a warning confirmation, something about being an "Experimental Feature", hit the Yes button then it asked for Superuser access, which I said yes too.
Then it flashed something like "Test Failed".Now both options are still greyed out and nothing happens if I tap to uncheck them.

Download File Expert, go to menu and settings and enable root explorer - Check mark the /system directory and hit menu then say mount RW.
I found this one works much easier for editing files than ES Exp.
I don't know about custom rom's but in the stock, yes. However, I have absolutely no idea what the screen cap button is. All I know is that I've accidentally taken a few and they're in my gallery lol

Man, I'm sorry but this is just NOT working.
I installed File Expert, changed the settings to enable Root Explorer, checked the /sys directory and enabled RW.
When I try to edit the file it wont save the changes.
I've tried editing the file using ES Note Editor, File Editor and File Expert (although the latter does not seem to have an editing function; no keyboard pops up when I tap the text).
When using ES Note Editor I change the screencapture command from FALSE to TRUE then menu>save. But when I open it again to view the changes the command is still FALSE.
When using File Editor to change the command I get an error when trying to save: "Error occurred when trying to save the file. It will not be saved"
I also noticed when I click out of the editor and back into the file directory the checkmark in /System folder is unchecked (like the Read/Write permissions revert back).
I appriciate the help. I had no idea it would be this complicated

Ok. Try way B.
Skip trying to enable the internal one and go to the market and download drocap2. It is free and works great.
Just use an app called "shoot me".
The perfect screen shot app that works on all roms.
Just instal, go to where you want to make the picture off, shake your phone and voila its in your gallary with his own folder.
Just google for it. its not in the market anymore
Ive been trying to install Glorious overdose for three days now and no matter what I do, I cant get my SK4G to boot into CWM, im rooted, have rom manager and have the zip for GO 3.3 in my root folder but it just seems to boot to normal recovery no matter what I do, any help please? I read that rom manager doesnt work, is that still true?
Thanks
Have you overwritten the stock recovery file on your phone? You'll need a file manager that can use SU in addition to root access. Also, you'll need to mount your internal storage as rw in order to overwrite the stock recovery using the root file manager of your choice.

Alright, bear with me I am a mega noob, I pick up on thigns fast though.
I have ES File explorer, and downloaded total commander, I tried to overwrite the recovery file in the system/bin and it says SU error, only giving me the option to Skip "failed /mnt/sdcard/sdcard" cross device link
Im not really sure how to mount/ unmount
I would download Ghost Commander from Google Play. It supports SU mode and is free. Most options to do anything can be accessed through the menu key. You'll have to enable root/SU mode in Ghost Commander since it's not enabled by default. Plus, you'll need to copy the file in that app and mount the file system as rw- (read-write). I forget the folder off-hand where the recovery is located at. *Standard Disclaimer*: Do these things at your own risk.

I'm guessing you are referring to checking mounts during ROM installation? That is done in CWM itself. If it says # means you have root and if it says rw means you have read and write capabilities. Once you have that, move the recovery.bin you downloaded from krylon and move it to system. It should ask you if you want to replace existing recovery. Then once thats there and you have the update zip on the root (main part of your SD card, not a folder or anything), go into normal Samsung recovery and reinstall. Should take you to CWM if you moved recovery correctly! Thats when you need to check mounts.
I haven't used Ghost Commander, but I downloaded the free version of SuperManager 3.0 to move the recovery file.
If you use SuperManager, you just go to the file manager (slide to screen 4, top left), you will start out in MNT/SDCARD. First, click the menu button and choose "setup." You will see "ROOT" and click on it, check "Enable ROOT function" then you will be promoted by SuperUser [su] to allow access, hit yes. Back out of the menu so that you are back to the SDCard [note: sometimes you find that you are in the system file after enabling root, if so scroll to the top and click 'Back up level folder' then choose 'SDCard' If you get a popup which says "Switch system r/w" at the top, choose "R/W"].
Once back at MNT/SDCARD, scroll to the recovery file, click and hit 'copy'. Scroll back to the top and click 'Back up level folder' until you are back where the "system" file is located - top where it read "MNT/SDCARD" will read "/ (R/O)" or "/ (R/W)" and if it only shows "/" then you need to enable ROOT still. If it shows "(R/O)" at this level, that is okay. Scroll to "system" [if you have already been promoted to choose "R/W" you will likely notice that the top reads "/SYSTEM (R/W)"] and click to enter, click "bin" to enter, click "paste." If you have not already been promoted to do so, you will be promoted to change directory to R/W [read/wright, versus R/O read only]. If it asks about replacing the file, choose whichever option replaces the file, you do not want to save with a different file name.
If you are using a different file manager, you may find the process very similar. Good luck! Glorious Overdose is a good ROM [though I have not used v.3, I have used v.2 and really enjoy it].

This is a small guide for those who are facing problems after performing a factory reset and can't get through the process completely and end up getting error "Unfortunately Setupwizard has been stopped" and stuck with no launcher but only status bar with a limited access to some of the settings.
First of all the things you need to make sure are that:
1. You have a rooted device with superuser installed.
2. You have root explorer installed as a system app.
3. And a little patience to follow all the steps
GUIDE
1. Send yourself a sms message or from any other phone while you are on setup wizard.
2. Open the message and in tap in the reply box.
3.Once you have your cursor in the reply box hit menu soft key and select attach or if u r using galaxy phones you have a paper clip button for the attachments.
4. Choose anything you want to attach for example a picture and a box will appear asking you for the application to select the picture from. It is usually Gallery or file explorer (in your case Root Explorer). Select the root explorer.
5. In root explorer hit Mount R/O button and grant root explorer superuser permission.
6. Find in the folder system/app/setupwizard.apk and delete the apk file.
7. Reboot and Enjoy your phone again!

hi, i am having this same issue , so what should i do if the root explorer is not installed or deleted
ATTENTION! Back up your original apk file BEFORE the mod as you WILL need it AFTER the mod is done..
Ok guys, so i decided to play NFS Most Wanted on my new device (LG L Fino) so i installed from market and started the app.. Ok BUT as many of you i was facing the "Not enough memory on device, clear up some memory to proceed" message. So i got angry and decided to see if there is a workaround of the problem. Well generally the problem itself is that my device (like many others) uses ONE memory chip which is split into TWO 2GB parts, the first is system only, and the second is user- accessible, BUT 1,2GB of that "user space" is flooded by system junk and bloatware etc etc.. So all you have left in the so-called Emulated SD is actually some 0.8 gigabyte which is not sufficient in any way, when you want to install NFS Nost Wanted, because when you start the app first time it asks you to download some 2055mb's game data and says you have 0mb free on device, when the actuall gamedata size is only 670mb.. So i found this workaround and i decided to share right away.. Enough talking - lets get to business:
Prerequisites:
ROOT IS A MUST HAVE FOR THIS JOB
Install RAR app from rarlabs (search on google play)
Install ES File Explorer
Install NFS Most Wanted from google play
Make sure of having at least 700mb free on internal mem.
Lets start.
First open ES File explorer and turn Root Explorer "on"
Then navigate to root/data/app and find a file named " com.ea.games.nfs13_na-1.apk "
Now COPY that file to the root of your ext SD (for the sakes of easy navigation)
Next click and hold on the file till you have it marked then from the popup menu (right lower corner) choose "Open as" (not extract) then choose "ES Archive manager" and once inside, navigate to /assets/downloadcontent .
There you will find a file named: "config.properties"
Copy that to the root of you ext SD and open it with text editor.
what you need is to find the two lines that read
TOTAL_SPACE_MB=2055
# TOTAL_SPACE_MB_MIN=440
and edit them to look like this:
TOTAL_SPACE_MB=0205
# TOTAL_SPACE_MB_MIN=044
Now close the file and save the changes.
Next open the RAR app and navigate to the root of your ext SD then click and hold the edited text file till a menu pops up, select "Copy to buffer"
Then click and hold at the apk file, select "Open as archive" (NOT EXTRACT!) and again navigate through assets/downloadcontent, then click and hold on a random file and from the popup menu select Paste, it should ask you if you want to overwrite, choose YES and close RAR.
Final step is to open ES File Explorer again, navigate to root of ext SD, COPY the now edited APK then navigate to root and /data/app and PASTE. Select YES to overwrite file.
Now click and hold the apk one last time, and from the popup menu (lower right corner) choose "Properties"
Right next to "Permissions" there should be a button named "Change" go ahead and push the button. Now you have to fix those permissions, you should see 9 checkboxes. CHECK the three ones that are underneath "Read" and check ONLY the topmost thats underneath "Write". ALL OTHER HAVE TO BE UNCHECKED!
it should now look like this:
.......................Read.........Write.........Execute
Owner:........(*)...............(*)...................( )
.
Group:.........(*)................( )...................( )
.
Others:........(*)................( )...................( )
Click Ok, close ES File explorer, run game, download 650mb gamedata and have fun (optional is when you download gamedata to use app like GL to SD)
if you mess up the process, start over-rinse-repeat
I hope i helped someone and if yes please feel free to hit thanks button ( no it doesn't bite)
Greetings from Bulgaria
Edit: I found out a bug and i don't know if it's only with my copy of the game after modding or if everyone of you who tried this has it. So...
THE BUG is that after i modified the already installed apk in order to download data, i happened to restart my device and when it booted it seemed like my copy of the game somehow "partially uninstalled" itself.. After a little digging i found out that it actually did uninstall itself, BUT only the apk - that meaning the data and savegame ARE still there..
THE SOLUTION is before doing the above mentioned walktrought you have to backup you Original apk first (using the backup app tool of ES File Explorer) and after that you have to reboot your device, install the original apk (it will tell you that this update has nothing new in it, thus not requiring any new permissions - install anyway) and you're good to go with a stable installed game..
BUG 2: after all done right, it happens that my copy of GL to SD app is not showing the most wanted in "linked apps" section and neither it is showing it in the "Move data" list.. Don't you worry, the game is still "in there" even when it does not show up on the lists, click the "mount" button and play as normal - it is working..
If there is some trouble i will be glad to help, just write a reply here and i will check my thread regularly.
Have a nice time guys... (Aaandd girls)
xD thanks a ton man, this helped me
