[Q] 'Teaching' the auto-correct? - General Questions and Answers

So, I have a new keyboard phone, the LG Enact. I had an Moto Razr M, and while it was a good phone, the screen was a bit too tiny. I could not type that well on it. Long story short, the new phone, the Enact, has a few issues with it's auto-correct.
And, please, don't ask me to simply turn it off. I dun type shorthand, and I like my words to be spelled... at least halfway correct.
So, with my Razr, if I typed a word, and the phone corrected my spelling, all you would simply have to do is tap delete once, and the phone would revert to whatever I typed, and would even underscore the word. If I wanted to be free of ever seeing the underscore again, I'd simply tap the word on the screen, and add it to my dictionary.
This new phone... well, needless to say, the software needs help.
The Enact reminds me of... I donno, just evil. Lemme give an example. I would type 'same' and it actually tried to replace it with 'sname'. You think, 'Hey, I just tap backspace, and it'll fix itself.' ..no, it doesn't. You have to tap delete to wipe out the word, and re-type it your way... only to auto correct it -again- as soon as you tap space. The only way to fix it is to back out of the messenger app, go over to Settings>Input>Dictionary, and add the word, then go back to the conversation, then it'll allow you to type the word you meant in the first place.
I am wondering, like, with some Windows software, you can add a configuration file, or the like, and it'll read it, changing the way it understands what you type, or at least learn from you, something. I would love to get something like that on my phone.
I did try a new app called 'User Dictionary Plus' that simply imports how you send to other people, but, the aggression of that auto-correct is -very- frustrating.
So, any advice? Any ideas how I could get my phone to be a little more... I donno, humanized? I would just install something random else from the Play store, but, the hardware keyboard is a dying breed... I rather not spend hours, and likely cash, just to get a keyboard that doesn't work with it. I am sure someone out there uses a hardware keyboard that knows a solution. Please help!

Is it possible?

Is it possible to extract the virtual keyboard from steel browser or chopped sms and put it on the original sms app or put it on the phone so that every app has it?
probably, but it would be very hard to do no doubt.
and also kinda pointless seeing as the cupcake update is, hopefully , going to have this.
if you know what your doing, yes.
you'd have to set it up as an event action. whenever the user touches on a text input section, then the jandroid version of an if then statement would have to check if the phone is closed, and the keyboard would pop up. it isn't worth it imo. there are very few text heavy functions on the device, and the only two already have soft keyboards. its useless.

very well put sir.

Need an app developed for the T9193? Anyone interested?

Guys, I'm interested in buying this phone http://negrielectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=9193&order=relevance&dir=desc but my problem is my eyesight and I need something that enlarges everything on the phone. NOT just the font when you write or something.
Less space between icons, utilizing the space better and instead of like the way the iphone was (sample)
John Smith 888-444-555
Have something more like this
John Smith 888-444-555
You know, use the space instead of just wasting it.
I tried years ago with my LG 9800 putting people's pics on there so I could see who was calling and still, they wouldn't let me use the whole screen for the picture but only a small portion in the middle.
With the help of one of the guys here, I found this http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/advanced-configuration-tool.html but of course, unless I have the phone, I can't test it.
The same guy suggested I get someone here to help me and write something for me so here I am.
I found this DROID app that says "Font Size globally enlarges text in all apps (Email, SMS, Maps, Home, Weather, Calendar, Widgets, ...)."
That's kinda what I want but possibly even bigger icons to boot.
Now, for my use and where I am, I have been recommended the 9193 so it would be great if someone here that has one could do something and show me how big things can get (if this is possible).
Thanks
George
Hi George and welcome.
I am sure someone on XDA can help you out.
I will move your thread to the Themes and Apps forum where you will probably get a better response.
Good luck with this venture, hope you find what you seek.
WB
Thank you Mr. Banana sir
I hope I can get some help too. Man, I can't believe this should be so hard. I mean, I'm not the only ol' fart around am I?
'preciate it
Oh, and I changed the title since you moved it.
Thanks again
George
There is a global "text size" setting which can be changed in WM. It will change the text for most of the system. Unfortunately some programs do not obey this setting and will default to small fonts - there's not much you can do about those programs though rather than get the developer to rewrite them.
I´m using zoo(o)mer a program that enlarges your sight.
Just try .
Guys, I don't have the actual phone nor do I have access to one.
Is there anyone here that can do this and show me a screen capture or something?
Ideally, putting it on a scanner and scanning it would be great. That way the size of the unit is accurate and I can compare it to other phones.
Thanks
George
Get one and add stuff
I have the T9193 and Zoomer is about your best bet at the moment, it will allow pinching to enlarge in most programs and areas in the phone.
When it comes to the phone calls etc there are some great apps developed on here that enlarge keys etc and use the vast space of the screen so blokes like us can see to do what we need to do without glasses.....mostly.
I use Iconsoft Phonex 2.2 for the dialer app, everything is nice and large!
Zoomer works great.
The phone is brilliant so get one add zoomer and Phonex and you will be very happy.....mostly...there will be the odd spot to annoy you but you will be able to live with it.
Well, I may have to take your word for it and of course, if I don't like it, I can just send the phone to you for a refund, right?
Seriously though, that sounds good.
Don't suppose you're in a position to do some screen captures, video or a scan of the phone so I can see what I'm doing?
Where do I get the zoomer and phoenix and how much are they?
Are you running 6.5 on there and is there anything different in 7?
Thanks guys
George
PhoneEx is good. But when I try to send an email from the contact of PhoneEx, "send from" will be "outlook mail'. Is it possible to change it to "hotmail", if yes, how?
Thanks a lot!
Is outlook mail the only choice?
Mind you, I would probably do it directly from the server like I do now but still, I hate outlook
give it a search... im quite sure there are lots of solutions instead of using outlook.
(p.s. I dont have mobile internet plan so i dont use the email function that often. but im sure you will come up with lots of solutions. the hd2 is great )
Hell, as long as it does the other stuff I want it to do, that's gonna be a minor thing since I tend to do my mail directly from the mail server anyway. I was just curious.
I'm hoping to get a reply on the zoom and phonex questions soon and I might go ahead and buy the phone tomorrow or something.
Thanks guys
George
Guys, while I'm at it, I just realized I should post my "wish" list here for you to comment on it and what's available and not on the 9193.
I actually sent this to Negrielectronics.com and they've been working with me to find the right phone so again, I want to put a plug for them 'cause they've been great!
Anyway, here it is in "kinda" order of importance to me...well, except for the first few, they are just questions I added later.
Cell Phone Wish List
1. Voice recording for PHONE conversations
2. Voice recording for other conversations, as in voice memos with built in mic.
3. Phonebook limited to memory size or are there size limitations?
4. Can I import my information from my Palm PDA?
5. Ability to have LARGE Letters and Numbers
6. LOUD RINGER and ability to put any ring tone on it. I will attach the one you put on the last phone so you can see it.
7. Loud Volume on phone
8. Loud Volume on speaker
9. Function as modem for getting online. NOT a must but would like to.
10. Pop e mail so I can check my mail if I want to.
11. Good browser capabilities (think iPhone)
12. Large clock so I can see it easier. You know, when the phone is in standby mode and you want to check what time it is. I love the clock that’s show in the picture of the HTC Touch HD2 T9193
13. Predictive dialing (I liked this from the HTC Vox that you let me try. Very cool. You dial and it keeps trying to guess which number you want. I’d LIKE this but NOT a requirement.
14. Latest Bluetooth version
15.
16. PREFER Real keyboard but not a requirement. I’ve gotten used to dialing on the screen and I don’t text at all.
17. GSM/3G/Fast Internet speeds. Probably going to use it on AT&T. I was never very happy with Verizon and for me at least, ATT worked better. Note, Ryan recommended T-Mobile and I will probably go with that, if nothing else but for the cost.
18. I don’t need a whole lot of the cool gadgets and features on it. I don’t do music or watch videos or download stuff. If it has a good browser like the iphone, that would be great but I mainly want a good PHONE. Camera is good to have and I do actually use it. Liked the one on the iphone and that the lens wasn’t too damn wide. That always pisses me off.
19. I would like a way to connect a corded headset, preferably without adapters.
20. I don’t care if it’s windows or not as I don’t plan on having letters and spread sheets on it. I have PDA’s for that.
21. At least 500 numbers in the phone book. Maybe predictive
22. I do NOT want a flip phone!
23. If it has keyboard on the front, I need LARGER buttons, NOT like the blueberry. My fingers are too thick for that.
24. Also, I would like the option to return it to you if it doesn’t work with my hands free in the car. Just like I did with the Vox and I would be happy to pay some fee for this if necessary.
25. As a phone, the Vox was superior to the iPhone but two things I didn’t like. Size of everything of course and it sucked at displaying web pages. I would actually like to change my requirement. I WOULD like something that displays web pages as well as the iPhone does. It did a beautiful job and I MAY need this feature in the future so if you guys are going to recommend something with a little larger screen, type HTC or iPhone, then I would like something that displays the web pages properly. Of course, it could be that they all do that now, I don’t know.
26. Ryan, I talked to Kenwood to find out which Bluetooth version it had as the handsfree unit was built in but they had no clue. Big surprise there. THIS is the unit I have from Kenwood (DNX8120) and although they didn’t have a list of compatible phones, there is a page on their site where one can look up the compatibility so I’m sending you that instead so that when the guys find a phone that’s suitable for me, they or I can go online and check it.
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/bt/index.php In the first drop down menu on the left, select DNX8. underneath select DNX8120 and under that, select INCLUDE and then on the right, find the phone I’m getting.
Well, I think this is about what I can come up with.
IF I get a laptop with built in wireless that I can use would I have to have an account for that and again, would I be stuck with the higher priced plan or how does that work
I've got a phone, nah nah nah nah nah nah...
Alright boys, I went with the Desire for AT&T from Negri Electronics (and by the way, if someone wants one, they've got 50 of them coming in monday or tuesday) so I need to ramp up the search for apps to make me see things better
Oh, and linky if someone wants it http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-a8183-android-att-850-us-na-3g-unlocked.html
They've got other versions if you don't want AT&T by the way.
Later yall

Amazon FREE app of the day: FlexT9 keyboard. A Must Have

I can see that Amazon loves giving away free apps, which I don't mind at all.

Just a warning:
Take a look at their EULA. Clearly states that they collect the information that you type and they cannot be held responsible what is done with this information... Just a little shady.

Curious if you could explain where you got this information? The EULA posted on Nuance's website (http://www.nuancemobilelife.com/android/EULA-flext9.html) does clearly state that
"As part of the Service, Nuance also collects and uses Speech Data, as defined below, to tune, enhance and improve the speech recognition and other components of the Service, and other Nuance services and products... 'Speech Data' means the audio files, associated transcriptions and log files provided by you hereunder or generated in connection with the Service."

but as far as I can tell this is exactly the same thing Google does with Voice Search, Google Talk Voicemail, etc. They go on to explain that only Nuance and third parties directly under their supervision will have access to such data. Sounds like business as usual to me...
this is an amazing keyboard, beats skype in all aspects
Love this keyboard. I've used Swype for quite a long time and this is much, much better.
.....
I really like how I can easily switch between swiping and typing. Swype and other swiping keyboards don't do this nearly as well as Flex T9.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I picked up FlexT9 too.
I'm a swype user now and I really want to like it. I do think the keyboard layout itself is better than swype. Feels more responsive and it's definitely much easier to tap out words on it then it is on swype's.
Coming from swype though, I've have things that I'm used to, like swyping ! or ? to the space bar, Sywping the swype icon to 5 to get the numeric keypad and Swyping up after the first character to capitalize.
Those are pretty minor though. A couple of things I really don't like about FlexT9 though are that you can't click on a wrong word to pull up other choices for that word. You have to deleted it and re-swipe it. I think how, with swype, you can type away and then go back and quickly fix a few wrong words at the end like that. Also, I don't like how it won't let you swipe in the url bar. I use Dolphin and use the url bar to enter search queries more than I do urls. That's probably my biggest issue with FlexT9. I have to also get used to hitting space bar at different times from swype. I think if I swype something on swype and then the next I want a number after a space (like I want to write "this 1"), with swype it's swype "this" then hold "1". With FlexT9, you have to hit a space after swiping "this" That'll just take a little getting used to.
The last thing is that, like Swype, it automatically enters anything you type in manually into the dictionary. I hate that. I wind up with hmmm and grrrr in my dictionary. Then, let's say, for some reason, I can't get it to swipe a word and I have to type it and I mis-type it (very common on swype), I get that added. Like if I type out "thief", but I type "thied", then thied is forever in my dictionary. I clear data on swype monthly or so, but that's not a good solution. Why can't they both just add a check box for "automatically enter typed out words into the dictionary". Done, simple.
I've given up on FlexT9 and come back a couple of times. Not sure if I'll clear the hurdle to switch from swype.
Anyone have any idea how responsive they are to changes? I did receive an email back starting they'll review my suggestion. What kinds of things have been changed in recent updates?
@lexluthor: I pretty much have the same feelings with you on trying to like FlexT9 after using Swype. It's so hard to get used to swiping without inserting Swype's shortcuts. If only one of those keyboards would take the good qualities of the other... but might be a bit difficult as I think Swype figures things out location based along your swipe line; whereas FlexT9 takes a guess at your swiped letters and does a predictive dictionary match. That's why if you trace "ELEP" on FlexT9, you can get ELEPHANT as a word choice.
BTW, if you double tap on words with FlexT9, choices pop up. Don't know how you're not seeing it. This is with the version of FlexT9 from the Amazon free app day.
Does anyone know how to get this keyboard in Canada? I've wanted to try for a while but can't find it in android market and amazon app store isn't available here...
I paid for this a while back and haven't seen any updates for it for quite a while. It let me install the (now free) Australian version from the market, it still can't understand the Kiwi accent though
Edit: No, turns out it just hasn't been updated in months.

Says it was updated June 2nd. Nothing in the changelog though and from the comments it looks like the only thing that changed was the permission to read contact data... odd.
I still want to try this though, I've heard good things about this. It won't show up in the market app and if I try to install online it will say not supported in my country... so how to get it
EDIT:
Okay so apparently there is a free version available in Canada but it's in French.
Can anyone upload the free Australian version apk? (English is pretty much the same .. right?)
Thanks
Anyone have the Apk or not?

[Q] Swype autocorrect issues

Hello,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post.
I am currently running leaked 4.1.1 (VRBLK1) on vzw gs3. I use Swype as my keyboard, and have noticed two very frustrating and related issues. I do not know if this is related in any way to the phone, or simply a swype issue.
1. Can't disable autocorrect.
2. When searching for a contact (phonebook, fb, etc.) I'll typy in the first couple of letters of the name and the list will shorten to the likely candidates. However, tapping on the name will not work properly, as the autocorrect feature interprets that as selecting the "correct" word, so instead I get a search for that word. For example, in FB, I type in Tzi, and while this is not in the dictionary, I get suggested Tzu. I click on the contact that starts with Tzi, and instead am given a list of users starting with Tzu.
Does not seem to happen on Samsung keyboard.
Thanks
I'm using Swype Beta 1.4
Settings -> Language and Input -> Swype Beta Setting -> Preferences -> Auto-Correct
Also, when typing a word that is not picked up by the predictive software, after you finish typing what you want (like Tzi in your example), do not click space. That will default to the first auto-correct/predictive option (which seems to be Tzu). Rather, click the word you typed (in this case Tzi) that appears in the predictive bar, first slot.
Thanks for the response.
I didn't realize that I wasn't on the latest version because the update option doesn't show anything. Apparently i had to download a new installer for the next version. Got my autocorrect option back, and it seemed to fix the problem I was having as well. Just for clarification, I wanted to be able to just type the first 2-3 letters and then pick the name from the resulting contact list, not actually save those letters as their own word. For example, If the name I'm looking for is frederick, typing fr would bring up the list containg fred, frederick, Freddy, etc. However, subsequently tapping on Frederick's name would change the text I had entered to whatever the autocorrect thinks it should be (let's say "re") and then i would get a list of names starting with that!
Anyway, seems to be a moot point for now, at least until the new dictionary starts getting populated, then we'll see.

Pixel keyboard auto capitalizing You for some reason

Hi,
I'm wondering if this is happening to others and if anyone knows any solutions. My keyboard auto-capitalize "Y" when swiping "you" even when it's not the beginning of a sentence. If I touch type "Do you want to...," it works fine. But, if I use the swipe feature, it spells it out "Do You want to..." Not sure why this is happening.
Hey not sure if you're still looking into this, but I've had this issue come and go over time. Honestly, no idea what causes it but I've had the same problem but with different words. I think there's probably a logical problem with the algorithms Gboard has for determining capitalization needs for done words. Did example, you may use "You" to start a lot of sentences and not realize it and the algorithm has now tried to capitalize it everywhere. Two potential solutions.
Keep correcting the spelling at let it learn "You" is wrong
Go into Gboard settings > advanced > delete learned words and data. Caution, this will delete all learned words. But doing so would tell you if this was isolated to just the learned words stores locally in your phone (bc Gboard no longer saves or syncs this data elsewhere)
Good luck!
