XDA links to MALWARE! - General Topics

I'm REALLY angry. I've been to the forums before and sought assistance from the community with excellent results. THIS time, I followed several of the links for a fix to a Dell Streak 7, and managed to download malware/virus V9 and who knows what else. All of my browsers have been hijacked. A System Restore does NOT work. Registry deletions DO NOT WORK. Malwarybytes has been DISABLED and cannot be reloaded.
I'm VERY careful when clicking on links. If there are multiple "Download" links I roll over them and look for the proper file. When I go to install, if ever, I read to see if there are other products set to load. I TRUSTED XDA to have links to safe areas, but this is clearly not the case.
I now have to wipe my computer to be sure nothing is recording my every move.
I'M TICKED OFF.
D.

you do know that xda cannot be held liable (neither legally nor morally) for links contained in postings from members?
otherwise, you would have to specify and or clarify your case!
and, regarding your problem: boot in safe mode and cure your pc from there! trust me, this works!

Yes, I know they're not responsible...LOL.
Safe Mode is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. What can I do in Safe Mode to remove the item? It has no uninstall...
Thanks for the quick reply.

Try running malwarebytes in safe mode...and sorry for your bad experience. Can you PM me the thread on xda where you found the links to malware. That way I can be sure that it is removed.
Thanks!

My AVG considers an APK I downloaded from XDA malware. Does this necessarily mean it's malware?
The link is for a Xperia Chinese Keyboard.
Any help is appreciated
Mike.

That's not even close to enough information to make any conclusion.
I would trust any file on XDA before AVG.
Having said that, is this in a thread or on XDA labs?
What is it called?
Thread name?
Has anyone commented about the app?

Safe mode only boots/loads system apps, it doesn't allow booting or installing user apps in safe mode, therefore, using MalwareBytes while in safe mode is not an option.

[Q] Using Screenshot and XDA forum app

How do I post a screen shot from within the XDA forum app? I've got the screenshot program working, now I just need to know how to post from within the XDA app, or any other app, for that matter.
I just upload the file to dropbox then insert the link into my post.
Thank you, but that doesn't make my picture show up in the thread, does it?

No, they have to click the link to see it. I am not sure of any other way though, perhaps someone else knows a method.

Motorola Contextual Services apk

Could someone upload the Motorola Contextual Services apk for me? I believe it's ContextEngineClient.apk in "system/priv-app". I just need the stock app again so I can let it update from the Play Store. Someone give me a hand and I'll slap the Thanks button ☺

Yeah I know. I never actually delete them. I just ran into a hiccup with integrating updates into the ROM to free up some space. Thanks!
EDIT: When i click the link, it says I need permission to access it...
I still need Contextual Services app (ContextEngineClient.apk) if someone could upload it for me. The file in post #2 said I didn't have access to download it.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z6cdgscp54w3uw7/ContextEngineClient.apk Not sure if I know how to post a link properly

Theres three permissions required for this app. It requires unlimited access to Internet and ability to prevent phone from sleeping. The original freeapp had no permissions. Someone please explain why the OP'S apk link is different. Not installing this. Beware.

The best way to notify the moderators if you are having an issue is to follow the instructions in this guide.
If you PM a moderator about an issue, it is best to describe your problem as clearly as possible and to provide a link to the thread in question.
Thanks!

[Completed] I was just wondering if you had a link to using XDA's post markup...

I am certain I had link at one time which summarized the basic features... if it is just basic BBCODE, then I must be doing something wrong or XDA is using a partial set of markup features.
Either way... thank you for any assistance!
EDIT: Found it... That is what I get for using Bing. For anyone who is still looking:
