[Help] Phone Bootloop - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, so i flashed a Moto G GPE rom onto my phone, got sick of seeing 3G rather then H or H+ and have decided to move back to Stock Retail.
I have a problem though when i use the guide on the FAQ ( the mfastboot way) everything i flash gets the okay appart from the system spasrsechunks? that gets some sort of error and it says error okay? Well apart from that after i reboot the phone, it has the warning sign but then uses the google bootanimation? ive left it on a good couple of minutes to see if it will boot but it doesnt seeem to want to..

Google animation means that you still have the gpe rom on your phone. This happened to me before when i flashed the GPE rom too. What you need to do is flash your firmware again. Download the stock firmware form this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219 Then what you need to do is run these commands MANUALLY! As in 1 by 1.
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear

Could be two things:
1. You may need to flash gpt.bin from 4.3 (included in official 4.3 download) as this will create a new correctly sized partition table.
2. Make sure you use motorola fastboot to flash (known as mfastboot) and not the Google fastboot.
Not a problem. Download http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=14&file=124
And follow:
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin #if this fails, ignore it and carry on
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
I have same problem too...any firmware I flash I get those " image is too big " errors and when I restart I am stuck at bootloader? any ideas?

Unfortunately i'm in the same boat, stuck at boot. Flashing different zips doenst seem to help. I think the partition has changed since the 4.4.4 OTA from 4.4.2 on the GPE. It's impossible to flash a different rom at the moment. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.
Yes ...I read the same thing in several places...it has to do something with that gpe firmwares partition.....anyone have any idea how to fix this please?
same problem here. I was able to fix my phone partially with
1, factory reset in recovery (twrp)
2, adb Cyanogen rom
3, fixing reception with
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
using gpe 4,4 fsg
Can you explain that in "noob language " please ? ...did you managed to flash official firmware after that?
Is fastboot mode available? If yes then you could just either 'dd' them or flash via fastboot, starting with sys partition. Don't touch the efs.

Hanging in bootloop after trying to install 4.4.4

Hello, I registered, hoping that somone maybe could help here.
Yesterday I wanted to get the latest 5.1 update for my moto g, running 5.0.2. Because I rooted the device amd modified some things like uninstalling system apps and replacing system apps with their updates; I wanted to flash a clean system first. I tried to find a german 5.0.2 rom and couldn't find one, so I decided the 4.4.4 version I got should do the same. So I tried to install it via fastboot. For doing this I used these fastboot commands:
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
I got these three errors: version downgraded primary_gp, version downgraded for tz, version downgraded for boot.
On reboot the phone get's stuck on bootloader unlocked screen and won't boot. I can reset by long pressing power, I can also enter fastboot menu.
After searching for two hours I could find this firmware XT1032_FALCON-RETDE_5.0.2_LXB22.46-28.1_1_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml (can't post link) and tried to install, I used the same commands as above and finished without any error. But there's still the bootloop. I tried to install several times and tried also to wipe data and cache. Can anyone help or is the phone bricked forever?
Dont flash motoboot, i had this same problem when flashing motoboot
I tried it again without flashing motoboot, with the same result. I think the problem is, that I flashed it once, so I think I could only fix it by undoing the motoboot flash.
Edit: Seems like the problem is only with stock rom. I tried to install CM12 and it is running fine, except it refuses a wifi connection. If CM would run that would also be ok, but without wifi,...so I just need stock.
Meanwhile I'm using a custom rom as a workaraound.
Try on this order @piet85
logo
boot
recovery
system.img1
system.img2
system.img3
nhlos
erase midem set 1
erase modem set 2
fsg
erase user data
and cache
Mind that the commands are not written on the right way just because im lazy :-
Thank you a lot, don't get me wrong, but for the moment I'm very glad having a running system on my phone and it runs very good for a custom rom. So there is no real need to flash again. Maybe I will do so, when there are major bugs or when I have more time, but for the moment the custom rom does it's job.

1st Gen hangs at splash screen.

I was having some connectivity loss earlier, so I powered off, turned back on and on turning back on, I now get the initial splash screen and nothing further. Can boot into the boot menu and recovery. Tried wiping cache first, then factory reset. Neither option changed anything. Any suggestions?
Were you using stock ROM?

I apologize, this is completely stock. I left it on overnight (plugged in) and apparently the battery wouldn't charge in this state as it was dead this morning. Plugged it in and charged for a bit and then tried turning it on and it is doing the same thing as before - hanging up at the initial splash screen.
I am helping hipsterdoofus with his phone. I work in the same office.
The only thing I can do is get it into fastboot mode. I was able to get the drivers working in my PC.
When I run fastboot devices, it's showing the moto g.
The bootloader isn't unlocked. I tried to do a "fastboot boot recovery.img" to get it to temp boot into twrp, but it fails since the bootloader is locked.
Is it possible to unlock the bootloader from this state from the fastboot menu?
I assume we can't flash twrp from fastboot without the bootloader being unlocked.
I come from using a Nexus 5, so this device is quite a bit different than what I'm used to. Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions.
Just wanted to do an update.
I was able to unlock the bootloader, then I downloaded the GPE_5.1_XT1032_LMY47M.M001_CFC.xml.zip file from a link I found on the forum.
I followed the steps for restoring stock firmware in this thread.
I did the section for flashing from the xml.zip file:
Code:
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot reboot
If you get "(bootloader) Preflash validation failed" errors on the first two entries, you should be okay to ignore (something I read on another thread here).
After that, the phone rebooted. We weren't sure if it was ever going to finish booting up. It had the boot animation screen for quite some time before it finally loaded the OS.
So the good news is, the phone is booting up, and it's the GPE edition.
Bad news is, it's not detecting the SIM card.
If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Flash went bad, how to flash anything working?

Hi, I've flashed my Moto G and I messed up real bad, multiple flashes and so... I can still get into fastboot, but trying to power up normally just gives me the warning about unlocked bootloader, which hangs indefinitely.
The phone is Moto G 8GB XT1032, Retail DE, originally 4.4.2.
-> What can be done about this? Is there a way to reformat the partitions and flash them all fresh and new?
Just so you know, I've been flashing with this batch below. Whatever I flash with it now, doesn't help.
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
Btw, I know I probably made a lot of stupid mistakes, but in the past I've succesfully flashed dozens of phones and I never messed up like this... Feel free to mock me
Updated: I installed TWRP and found out I am unable to mount or repair system and cache. Also, both partitions show 0 MB size.
The restore to stock should work. Make sure you have mfastboot, the exact factory firmware images for your device, and that each file flashes successfully. Maybe you could post the cmd output if it doesn't flash correctly.

It initially worked, the phone booted up fine, but after I switched it off, it came back up in recovery mode. Now it only boots up in recovery.

so you can't boot into system?
Finally, I solved it.
I couldn't, but then I found many people have this issue and the solution was to somehow repair the misc directory through ADB in TWRP (instructions are somewhere here at xda-dev). Now works well.

You do not need to unlock the bootloader to flash original moto firmware
Just put it in bootloader mode and on your pc where you have fastboot and all the firmware files open a command/terminal prompt and type the following
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img (not all devices have this)
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk0 (flash all sparsechunks in number order - for example)
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk4
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot

Some phones may not have sparsechunks 0 & 4 - as long as you flash all the ones in the firmware in number order
I don't have your phone so I couldn't tell you what firmware to use
I have Motorola g5 so I can just tell you the process
And looking on that firmware thread it says you need to use mfastboot for system images - so see that thread for details
Long as everything is flashed successfully in the order I have written above including erasing user data
Sooo.... Could you tell me which comand i have to use ?
Related to no sim card issue?
I'm wondering if this is related to a problem I am having with mine phone. I flashed the official firmware (6.0) on my moto x force and everything works but the simcard. It says it's not loaded so I have no phone or cell data. My sim card works in other moto phones so its not that.
