[MOD][GUIDE][12-17-14]MenuBeGone - Lollipop-remap menu button to recent apps - Galaxy S 4 General

Disclaimer: This is not my original idea. I searched a lot to find ways to do this without xposed and found one. Unfortunately I cant find the xda post now to give credit.
Edit: Added flashable zip for lollipop stock GPe
This mod will remap the menu button on the S4 to recent apps button like the S5, and force all apps to show a 3-dot (action overflow) menu.
The point is that I don't like Xposed and that this works with ART.
Tested on google edition ROMs. May work on others.
Remap:
Open /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl and change
Code:
key 139[COLOR="Red"] MENU[/COLOR]
to
Code:
key 139 [COLOR="Green"]APP_SWITCH[/COLOR]
Force 3-dot menu in all apps:
1. Decompile framework-res.apk
2. Open /res/values/bools.xml and change
Code:
<bool name="config_showNavigationBar">[COLOR="red"]false[/COLOR]</bool>
to
Code:
<bool name="config_showNavigationBar">[COLOR="Green"]true[/COLOR]</bool>
3 Open /res/values/dimens.xml and change
Code:
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height">[COLOR="Red"]48.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height_landscape">[COLOR="red"]48.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_width">[COLOR="red"]24.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
to
Code:
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height">[COLOR="Green"]0.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height_landscape">[COLOR="green"]0.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_width">[COLOR="green"]0.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
This works in google edition ROMs and may work in others.
I have attached a flashable mods I made for KANGAKAT 7.0, 8.0, Jamal's 4.4.4 ROM, Danvdh pure nexus and custom ROM, and Stock 4.4.4.
Download (Only the stock zip is tested but they should all work fine. The zip names are "[ROM Name] - MenuBeGone.zip"
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=16975

Thanks for your work. I love this mod. :good::good:
But can you tell me which application I can use to do this?
I couldn't find the location mentioned in Forced 3 dot menu.
My phone is i9500 using touchwiz based rom.

I will take a look at TW to see if this is possible. The mod as is only works on AOSP- based Roms.
You can use the xposed module menubegone in the meantime. The xposed module is more powerful any ways..
I use this because I use ART. But there is no ART on touchwiz so you can just use xposed..

Is it workable for GE 4.4.4 as well?

Awesome mod, was looking for it for ages!
Can you please share the zip to go back to original layout? I just flashed it, wanna try for a couple of days but i forgot to backup my files, so im stucked like this if i dont like the multitasking instead of menu button.
Thanks in advance.

My zip was only meant for kangakat 7.0. I am surprised you have not had other issues. Anyways, I will make zips and reverts for most of the GPE4.4.4 ROMs out there as soon as I get some time.

Great, cause im totally lost without menu button, i already modded the button layout and got it back, but i prefer to go back to stock framework too. Thanks.

I flashed S4-GPe-Stock-5.0-MenuBeGone.zip in my Danvdh GPE5 rom and happened the same, plus the capacitive buttons doesn't make any sound when touched.

[MOD][4.4][KRT16O][KRT16S] Transparent Lockscreen Mod

I've been looking around for days and couldn't find a translucent lockscreen mod for 3G, so I decided to create one:
This is ONLY for 3G Nexus 7(2012) and includes Tethering/Wifi Hotspot mod as an extra.
All tethering/Wifi hotspot credits go to xtoudi and stridger for making this happen.
SMS mod credits go to GuyAdams.
************ STOP ************
**** READ THE POST BEFORE FLASHING ****
Flashing Instructions:
1- Flash the krt16x-Stock file matches your build.
2- Reboot
3- Flash the modded framework now.
4- Enjoy.
UPDATE: Added modified frameworks for KRT16S as well.
UPDATE2: Also added SMS mod by GuyAdams as requested.
Thanks for this! i had to flash the untethered first then modified one.
it worked thanks

hey mate you are the only one providing the transparent bars for tilapia and this is a great things! thank you very very much!
but could you please also provide a version of without the tethering mod? I flash this one together with the SMS/Hangouts + tethering mod by @GuyAdams but they are not really compatible.. if I flash one I lose the goodies from the other one and vice versa..!!
this is really sad..
thanks you very much for paying attention, hope to hear you soon!
Update OP with SMS mod as requested.
For 3-way reboot, I have to look further into the code, maybe next week.
thanks mate! great work..!! now it's even better!!!
Hi wejgomi
Thanks for buidling this.
I tried flashing "krts16s-Trans-Tether-SMS.zip" using flashify (via TWRP) and the device now won't boot.
It just sits at the boot logo forever (an animation of four coloured circles for stock 4.4.)
I'm running Stock 4.4 (KRT16S) with root (UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.69) and TWRP (2.6.3.1) on tilapia.
I can revert to my backup no problem but I'd like to get it working.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi again.
I've got the mod installed now, thanks.
Tethering and SMS are working great but I'm not sure about the transparent lock screen.
Sorry if this a stupid question but how do I enable the transparency effect?
My lock screen doesn't look any different: My wallpaper, clock with date, carrier name, status icons in top right & up arrow at the bottom center of the screen.

Thanks, I didn't have GEL installed but I do now. My home screen is a bit different but there's still no change to the lockscreen. Should I expect to see my home screen icons on the lock screen? That's what I thought transparent lock screen would do.
Maybe GEL has to be installed before the MOD?
The transparency is to be intended as transparency of the status bar and of the navigation bar!

a simple (decompile, edit, recompile) for your ROM's XperiaLockScreen.apk would be enough to remove it for good

I'm terribly sorry about this delayed reply, after hours of trying, it turned out, Samsung puts the lockscreen hint in framework-res.apk,
while Sony puts it in an individual app (it was in UxpNxtLockScreen.apk in the previous Sony lockscreen),
and now that they have changed there lockscreen to a brand new one, they changed the lockscreen apk name as well,
to become (XperiaLockScreen.apk).
Anyway, all that might be not important, all you need is something to remove that silly hint with, right!!
this is a flashable zip that contains a modded XperiaLockScreen.apk from Sony KK Generic firmware,
it should work on all Sony KK official or based ROMs, and the message won't appear in all languages
Tested on my Z1C using [KITKAT] D5503_14.3.A.0.681_Generic by Munjeni
Enjoy

I don't think it is that simple, cuz there are some other files (maybe in /framework or /lib),
if you look for it in google for example (port Sony lock screen) you should find all the info about what files you need to change to get 4.3 lockscreen on KK, [I'll look into it but I might not post anything about it, will see]

Simply remove the lockscreen apk on whatever ROM/FW you're using. You're stuck with a black background on JB though but works a treat on KK.

The menu you are looking for, is LRX21Q, T and V. Not on LRX21O Build.
Slim alpha also has something similar
There must be an app/adb command that enables this menu. It's not rom dependant.
Download power toggles. Create a widget/notification setting and add whatever functions you need, including this.
If you have tasker, create tasks for Reboot, Reboot Recovery, and Reboot Bootloader (under the misc. menu). Then create shortcuts for each task and put them in a folder on your home screen. It my not look as pretty as a clean menu but it works just as well and you can access it pretty quickly.

[MOD][G2] Cloudy G2 2.2 and G3 2.1 Navbar Height 24/32/36/40 dpi (works on ART)

MOD for smaller (24/32/36/40 dpi) navbar for Cloudy G2 2.2 & G3 2.1
Instructions:
1. Either make a full nandroid backup, follow these instructions for creating a quick flashable recovery file, or copy /system/framework/framework-res.apk to another location for restore
2. NOTE: this flashable zip will replace your "/system/framework/framework-res.apk". That is the only file you need to create a flashable recovery file.
3. Download flashable zip:
navbar 32 dpi
navbar 36 dpi
navbar 40 dpi
navbar 24 dpi - credits @d00lz
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Flash
6. Reboot to system
Note: if you have modified your framework-res.apk file with another MOD you will lose that MOD; try flashing your old MOD again to see if they are compatible.
Xposed G3 tweaksbox does NOT modify your framework-res.apk.
Tested on:
- D802 deodexed ART & Dalvik, Cloudy 2.2 and 2.1
- works on odexed ROMs
- LS980: issues with nfc. Works fine without nfc MOD.
- D801 (T-Mobile)
- Should work on all G2 devices
- Should NOT work on Cloudy G3 2.0 or lower, but if you are brave then feel free to try
Restore:
Please follow these instructions to create a recovery file, and select ADD -> File -> "/system/framework/framework-res.apk" to create your recovery zip.
keywords: navbar navigation bar cloudy G3 2.1 G2 2.2 height

This can be achieved through G3 Tweaksbox and set to any dpi.
Did you create the mod so as to have the smaller dpi but not depend on xposed since it doesnt work on ART?

[Q] [Request] Modified NavBar DPI for Stock Lollipop 5.1

Hi all,
I've been searching for two days a way to reduce NavBar's DPI in Lollipop 5.1 Stock rom because they look too big to me. Since different people are looking for it (from what I've read), I would ask if someone that is able in this sector could kindly make a flashable zip for everyone (I really don't know how to... maybe with a guide I could try by myself).
Thanks in advance.
If you can't get that, get SoftKeyZ. Has keys of smaller size.

I've modified the navbar to 20dpi on stock 5.1 and using it without any issues.
You need to do change some variable values in framework-res and SystemUI apks as well as resizing the navbar icons.

Follow this link. It will give you a generic idea about how to resize the navbar. This tutorial is for kitkat, but the steps are more or less same. You need the latest apktool jar file and java 7 installed in your system.
Since lollipop some core things are changed most probably because of selinux and security stuff, so you need to use the manifest and meta inf files from the original apk otherwise device will boot loop.
Also you need to downsize the softkey icons in the System-UI apk, else it'll look ugly after resizing.
Finally if you lowered the dpi of your device, then resizing the navbar will increase the gap between the softkeys, some people will like that, but I prefer the keys to be as close as possible so that thumb's reach can be minimal. let me know if you want that mod too. Good luck.
Thanks man, but it looks too difficult to me... I don't know anything about decompiling, java, etc...
By the way thank you very much for spending your time answering my questions.
I'll stay on Chroma until GB is compatible with 5.1.

Thank you man! Could you explain how to change those values? I would make them 36 dpi but I wouldn't disturb you making a flashable zip...

I was using Chroma ever since it was available for N5, but came back to stock because google maps was FC'ing continuously. Downloaded the latest chroma just yesterday night and still thinking of trying that once again to see how maps behave this time. Regarding navbar, typing the 'how to do' is much longer than modding the apk

I can make it for you, what navbar dpi you prefer? I hope you are running stock rooted.

I add myself to the discussion because on the web you can't find anything. For KitKat were available some zip file to flash via custom recovery on rooted device compatible with the stock ROM, but for Lollipop anything yet! 40 dpi would be perfect
