[Q] Data deletion upon unlocking bootloader - General Questions and Answers

I recently unlocked my bootloader and it cleared my internal memory (HTC One), I went thought the process of getting all my data back This tutorial, but only to find that the data is not there. Does anybody know the extent of the formatting when it clears your data when unlocking the bootloader? I wouldn't think it would do a complete format but, the data is not there.

Unlocking the bootloader on your HTC Phone wipes your /data partition. It was a complete Data format. You CANNOT get your data back
It deletes the user data for "privacy reasons" and "security concerns".
Sorry , but you can't get your data back.

[Q] Why data is wiped when bootloader is unlocked?

I have a simple question: Why all user data is wiped when bootloader is unlocked?
It's a security measure, if you have a lockscreen and someone else unlocks your bootloader to gain access to the device, as a security measure all of your data is wiped.

Rooting phone without data wipe

i want to know if there's a way to root your device (for the first time) without data being wiped?
i only want root access nothing more
Getting a root access doesn't wipe out data if you have an unlocked bootloader.
You cant root your phone without unlocking the bootloader.
And to unlock the bootloader there is no way you can do that without data getting lost.
So for the first time rooting phone without loosing data is not possible I guess.

how to recover from FRP lock without loosing data (SM-G930FD)

I need a bit of help with recovering from FRP Lock. I think I triggered it by switching off OEM Unlock after having rooted the phone (and changed some file on the /system partiotion) and then rebooting.
So now I cant boot because of the FRP Lock and am trying to recover. I think this means should flash a samsung stock rom using Odin. My question is how can I do this with out loosing the (encrypted) data partition. I was running stock (rooted with cf-autoroot) before so I doubt i really need to wipe settings. I'd really prefer not to loose the internal storage (mainly because I dont want to loose my pictures).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Help please, trying to recover deleted photos from Mate 9 (MHA-AL00)

I accidentally deleted 200 photos from my Mate 9, as I know, to recover these photos, I need to "root" my Mate 9 (B213) first, and before that, I need to get an unlock code from Huawei.
I'v already got the unlock code.
The unlock procedure prompts that all data will be deleted with a factory reset. I am not sure if this step will permanently erase all data on the storage.
Anyone has similar experience?
Thanks a lot!
I would expect the unlock to permanently erase all data, yes (or rather, it will permanently wipe the key used for file-based encryption, which amounts to the same thing). If it doesn't, it's a major security flaw.

Bootloader and may security patch

I unluckly discovered that with the may security update, both unlocking and locking the bootloader will result in a complete wipe of all user data.
Is this intended? Will this be the standard for all the next updates? It's really a shame that unlocking ther bootloader is now a relatively pricey and hard thing to do.
Or did I just do something wrong? Lost data... twice in a day
What about GCam and root if the bootloader can't be altered without clearing all user data? Does this mean I'll have to dump my data every time I update my system (and so root again)?
Hope someone knows better than me :crying:

Yes, from now it's "normal"
On all devices you lose all data for locking/unlocking BL, our Mi A1 was lucky.
Its upgrading security
Wiping FRP was a piece of cake
