For rooting you must have a custom recovery installed which will eventually unlock your bootloader. If you have a custom recovery download a rom of your choice and flash it in recovery.

If the zip requires root permissions, it could cause problems. If you don't know what you're doing, best not to do it, as you could run the risk of bricking your device.
Check the description of the zip file you downloaded if it needs your phone to be rooted. Almost all system customization and zip files required rooted device. Rooting is easy if you follow the instructions carefully, although it can void your warranty. but you can always unroot your phone for warranty purposes. You can only brick your phone if miss or you didn't follow the instruction. If you didn't want to root then don't, because there are many customization on the market. ROOT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Root didnt work?

Hello,
I attempted to root My European Xoom which is on JB 4.1.2 Folowed the instruction from FAQ How do I root my device.
I followed all the instructions from Manual Root Way, by XxLordxX and everything went fine. Did exactly as said so when I finally reached the point where you download "Root Checker Basic" and it says Sorry! This device does not have proper root access. But there is a superuser app but it doesnt do much. So whats gone wrong guys?
Plus once this problem is fixed do I need to do Step 5: Backup Image to SD card and Step 6: Restoring Image from SD card?
To load a custom rom.
Cheers
Hi,
The way I ended up rooting was to use the aio root tool to unlock boot loader, then I tried to root but failed, installed CWM with aio then flashed the pre rooted 4.1.2 can be found in Android development, then flashed Dream 4.2.2 an all out stable ROM using Sheild Kernel for OC it's incredibly smooth.
Hope that helps.

No root permissions help

Hi guys,
I found the kingroot app somewhere in xda and successfully root my lollipop z3, but I didn't directly flashed nuts recovery, (my fault)
I deinstalled the kingroot app and rebooted and my root permissions was gone, although when I install it again it shows me I'm rooted,
Also root checker shows, I have the şu binaries installed but don't have root permissions,
I don't have a recovery
I have the su binaries
But I don't have root permissions
Also tried supersu but don't work
Pls help me :/ I'm not a noob but this is really hard to figure it out
I appreciate any help
Thanks
What firmware version are you on? Flash back to the shipped firmware FTF for your region and use giefroot instead.
I'm on 690 German ftf
to be honest you would be better off downgrading to a .77 KK rom and then using giefroot to root it and then install nuts dual recovery and installing a pre-rooted LP rom

No, you can't flash any zips without custom recovery or root.
You'll have to build a recovery for your device based on the series of MTK CPU you have.
There are guides all over the internet for building or porting recovery for MTK devices.

xperizla z3 d6653 kitkat rooted via kingroot

Hi guys im new here at z3 development.
I would like to ask if there's a way to install twrp or other custom recovery to my phone without pc? My z3 model is d6653, locked bootloader, rooted via kingroot... Coz i want to update it to lollipop or marshmallow without loosing root...
Thanks in advance.
Have a great day.
In theory NO you cannot update your device while you are rooted and if you can you would loose root kingroot does backup it but you can only use it till the last lollipop update and as for the custom recovery you can use official twrp app or Rashr app and get a custom recovery image and flash it but do it at your own risk as it can brick your device really bad on locked bootloaders
I hope this helped you hit the thanks button if it helped you
