Does anyone know, if I create a TWRP backup, can I restore it to a different Nexus 5? Both phones have been unlocked, rooted and with custom recovery installed in exactly the same way.
Just got a replacement phone, and would rather not have to spend the time to set it all up to my liking again!
Thanks

Yes you can. But DO NOT backup and restore the efs partition. That will make your new device useless. Only backup and restore system and data. That's twrp's default backup.

Oh... just checked and in TWRP, System, Data and Boot are ticked by default. Should I untick Boot as well then?

Boot's ok, especially if you have a custom kernel

It should be fine, it's the kernel.
ANYTHING BUT EFS.

Hey guys...
I have been using EHNDROIX custom rom for quite some time. For no apparent reason now when I try to boot my phone it freezes on the logo screen. I tried installing newest or oldest updates, or even other custom roms but I still face the same problem. I was wondering if there is a way to bypass that problem without losing my applications. Do you have any suggestions on what to try apart from wiping cache, dalvik cache and fixing permissions (which I've already tried)? Can I backup my applications from recovery before wiping data which I suppose will fix the problem?
Titanium bkp will let you restore app data from a cwm backup (may only be a pro option)

If titanium backup can restore applications from cwm backup it will save me a lot of trouble

Yes, unless it was recently added to free but 5.99 is a small price for all the headache it will save you in the long run

You can wipe data without losing your applications. You would have had to run a titanium backup before you got stuck in your bootloop scenario. TB pro is the best $6 I have spent on the market.

Hi,
Titanium backup can restore apps from cwm backups.
But also, if your using the test cwm recovery (version 6.0 or above I think) and you will be flashing the same rom again, you can go to recovery, select advance restore, select your cwm backup you made earlier, and select "restore data only"
That will restore all your data you had on the phone, like apps, app data, call logs, ect.
But you should really be on the same rom that you made the backup of to do this, or else it can cause more boot loops.
Cheers
Corey

Basically I want a strait up clean slate. I'm running rooted stock 4.2.1, and all I want to do is delete all apps and keep my root. I'm using TWRP Backup.

To start with a clean slate while keeping root I would recommend booting into recovery and selecting the factory reset option and then wiping the cache. Then once you have done that reboot the phone and you'll still have root but you'll have the clean slate you wanted.

By using this option, I would I still have my TWRP Backup just in case something happens?

Yes, if you make a backup of your setup before you wipe everything in TWRP you can then latter restore your backup in case something happens.

Yes anytime you use factory reset in TWRP itll keep root but wipe everything else.
Is it possible to return to stock without losing my data? My data really isn't that necessary, as I could make a TB backup and save it to the internal memory, but the main question is: Can I return to stock ROM without having to to wipe my internal memory?

no. of course you can set it for google to restore your settings, and apps with settings, but your data will get wiped.

Alright, thanks
Yes you can. Just download the stock factory image and extract it. Then using adb (I hope you know how if not tell me and I'll try to explain) flash the recovery, system, and boot images. That will restore your stock ROM, kernel, and recovery. Just don't flash the userdata image and all your internal data on your "SD card" will be fine. All you have to do is restore your titanium backup apps and all their data will still be there and your pictures and everything will all be available.

Cool I was wondering this too as I made a nandroid when I first started but not sure I had all my apps set up yet. From here I would just reflash twrp and reroot, correct?

Yes but you'll still lose your apps just not the internal data so make sure you backup with titanium. It'll be like flashing a new ROM.

I was wondering if it was necessary to add recovery in backup selection when creating a backup. This phone is definitely different than my last so back up looked strange to me.

I don't if you restore a backup you still have twrp recovery.
OK so I have another question about backing up in TWRP. When you select backup it shows the menu to choose what gets backed up... Correct me if I'm wrong but the boot selection is for the kernel? Right?

Hello,
I just make a full wipe and see that Supersu is installed by default after boot. Is this normal?
Thanks,
Vandur
No unless you're flashing a custom rom. Some custom roms will include supersu.

If you did a full wipe using twrp, it roots the phone automatically unless you decline the option.

If you bought it second hand the first thing I'd do is flash the factory image so it's like brand new.
