(Feature request) Nested folders view - MX Player

In big video libraries, we may find folders inside folders containing videos, so please add option in setting as ( view as nested folders or multilevel folders) or so, so folders inside folders appear not in one level as of now, but the parent folders appear first then when we press on it the inside folders appear and when we press on them the inside folders appear etc
So we can transfere the library of videos on pc which consist of multilevel folders and they appear the same way on the app i.e. multilevel folders not one level of folders only which could cause confusion sometimes
That could be added as option in setting (view as nested folders or multilevel folders) for anyone who wants to apply them
Thanks alot

I agree. @bleu8888 could this be considered for 2.0?
For reference, the original thread on the old forum: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/EL-clD5zO6g/discussion
Note: this is already on the feature request list under medim priority, #2.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297

+1 For folders with sub-folders and similar if not identical names, navigation gets very difficult or even impossible. I have to use a file manager to browse my tutorial videos.

Sure. it is one of major feature to be supported in 2.0

What's the ETA on the subfolder multi level view?
This has been a feature request for a couple years.
Any chance we'll see this feature before our sun becomes a red giant?

It's already exists almost from past 1 years. In list screen goto menu > view > folders. It will show the folders in hierarchical aka nested view.

The only way I know is to move them into a different folder. If you REALLY don't want them to show up, you could zip them up and delete the originals. They's about as good as I can suggest I'm afraid. Either that, or stop taking pictures of your girlfriend/gentials lol.
Too much porn on your phone, am I right guys?
Did u try to hide them with total commander or other file manager?

Changing the file attributes doesn't help. The album apps still show them. This is one of the things that bugged me when I made my "Hide Folders" app. It became a little pointless when certain applications didn't care about the "hidden" attribute.
Hi there
I use a Software named "Secubox". With this, i can create a virtual storage card which I can mount and unmount if i need it.
Its also encryptet, so the data stored there is secure and you have no access, if you don't have the password...
Works nice on my HD2, the only solution for this kind of data ;-)
else: put your pictures in a subfolder in Program Files... Album will show them only if you browse there....
Tip with the Program folder does it for me ! thank you!
Hi,photos in touchflo3D come by default from DCIM folder on your storage card . You can create a new folder called from example DCIM2 an put here photos that you don't want to see in the Touchflo3D .

That works for the very front of the GUI, but if you click on albums, you get to see the folders with images in them. I believe the above suggestion of putting your images in a program files sub-folder stops that happening.
Also, if you were to use the pictures & videos app, you can browse the folders all over the phone, so it's still not 100%. I think the suggestion of a secure, encrypted area is the most secure of the lot.
Either that or take my previous advice, and stop taking c**k shots lol.
Hi, I wrote the following script for my TP2 which did the trick. You need to have Mortscript installed.

Hide Photos
Not sure if this helps but what I do is :
I have on the SD card, a folder with all my data in called imaginatively Data.
In there I have Videos, Photos, Documents, and Hidden.
And pictures I don't want to be seen in Album, I put in the hidden folder.
Then in Total Commander :
Select the folder
Click File
Then >>>>>
Then Properties
This allows you to adjust the attributes.
Click Hidden, and click Recurse subdirs. (If you don't do the recurse, it will hide the folder but NOT the images within).
Then click OK.
Reverse the process when you want to get them back.
It's like 5 clicks to hide, and 5 to get them back.
No need to rename or anything, I found it works for me.
Hi,
create a new folder for private pictures and add to Album ignored list.
Example
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored]
"Maps from TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Western*"
"TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Navigator"
"Musik"="\\Storage Card\\Musik"
"MSMetaData"="\\Storage Card\\MSMetaData"
"Camera"="\\My Documents\\Templates"
"MMS"="\\My Documents\\UAContents"
[COLOR="Red"]"Private"="\\Storage Card\\Private Pictures"[/COLOR]
with friendly greet
starbase64
yep
the upper post doesn't work, but no doubt the easiest way to do it is posted up by jaknife with recurse subfolders hide method
Another solution.. in the thread [REF]*Leo Hints & Tips*, at the tip no 64:
"64. Disable Unwanted Folders From Showing in HTC Album
Don't you find it annoying that HTC Album Shows lots of images you don't need to see when you select Albums like GPS poi icons? Now you can tell HTC Album to ignore certain folders.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HTC/HTCAlbum/Ignored and add a NEW STRING VALUE
Eg if there is iGO8 in the root of the Storage Card you would create a NEW STRING VALUE with Value name iGO8 and Value Data \Storage Card\iGO8
This will include all subfolders inside the iGO8 folder. Save and reset."
works only in HTC Album, not manila interface
Hi,
Thanks to starbase64 and traianboala , I have tried the ignore string key, and works fine in albums program of HTC, but the images still appear on manila Photos & Videos (that is on the manila interface) any solution or another ignore string / list for the manila interface?
Sounds like you got alot of self made home private spicy photo's/videos..

Secubox costs $39.95

FreeOTFE costs $0.00

Guess which one I use! and FreeOTFE works great on my HD2! just remember to format the volume you create as a FAT32.
Works!!!

[Q] Exclude folders from HTC Album?

Does anyone know how to keep a folder from showing up as an album when you go to the photo tab -> albums and select either "all" or storage/device?
I have a number of folders I'd rather not see (tons of icons and such) and several I'd rather not have others see...
I've marked the folders as hidden, but that doesn't seem to stop the program from finding them. Also tried putting a "~" and a "." in front of the folder name.
Moving to device-neutral Q&A forum so that your question will get greater exposure to the XDA masses.

HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
(if ignored doesn't exist: create it)
Make a new String Value and give it any name
example: igo
set the Data for the new value to the full path of the folder to be ignored
example: \Storage Card\iGO8
(note: all sub-folders will be ignored as well)

I really can't thank you enough! That's what I needed.
I am somewhat ashamed that all of the keywords I was looking for seem to be in that post, but I still didn't find it. Maybe I was just hung up on the word "exclude"... in any case, thanks for doing for me what I should have been able to do.

Filtering gallery folders

Hi guys,
I am having some issues with the Stock Gallery. I have bunch of assignments and homework on my sd card and gallery decides to add all the photos into the library...... i.e. I can't even find my photos and videos among the few thousands graphs and diagrams.. Is there a way for the app to only scan specific (e.g. media) folders? Thanks!
I am afraid that the answer is NO unless one of the dev-cracks here found a solution.
But meanwhile You could use any gallery-app with a hide function or - since You obviously just want to make them not to show in stock gallery: -simply use
Keep Safe
I see. Any cool gallery app that support include/exclude folders? Thank you!

QuickPic is the best one out there and with that one you can hide folders, it's free so why don't you try it out.
dropping a ".nomedia" file in the directories you don't want seen in gallery doesn't work?
Hmm, looks like there is an app that will help with these. I have not tried it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.studiokuma.nomedia&hl=en
You can add a . to the beginning of the folder name of any folder you do not want gallery to look at and the images will not be seen. Of course this may cause some other apps to not see the folder also.

It seems not to, which is driving me nuts.
There is a few folders I would like to hide and putting a . at the start of the folder name does not work either.
EDIT:
It does actually work putting .nomedia file in folders for samsung's gallery. The media scanner seems super slow or something and not specifically updated by a reboot. I have an app called "Rescan Meda" that does not seem to get the media scanner's ass in gear.
It seems that the media scanner will still do recursive if there is not a .nomedia in each folder of the tree.
making the folder hidden by putting a . at the start of the foldername does not work tho.

[bug] Resume last played media button is missing

Resume last played media button is missing if last played video is from /storage/sdcard1/... folder. Completed videos aren't marked too. (Didn't checked another folders)
It is on its place even if last played media file is same but has another path because of different device mount point (/mnt/ext_sdcard/...)
(Just playing with filtering scanning folders)
OS is Android 4.2.2, PacMan Rom
Device is Huawei U9508
Here's a bug demostration:
I think MX Player is path specific. I'd recommend changing your defined video folders in your MX settings, so that it only checks 1 mount path of your SD card.
I know that it's solution to change video folders
But why it does work for some folders and for some folders it doesn't?
For example, it does appear for "/mnt/sdcard1/Anime/GTO/GTO - 01.avi", but doesn't for "/storage/ext_sdcard/Anime/GTO/GTO - 01.avi".
...while it's more likely to user select the /storage/... folder in settings, because when you open folder selection dialog, opened path is /storage/emulated/0/

It think, it's a bug, when you shouldn't select some folders to get this button appear.

Yes, I can reproduce the problem.
In my case my external sd card is mounted in /storage/extSdCard. One more location is exists on /mnt/extSdCard which is actually a link not a mount point. But, real path of the file will be /storage/extSdCard/*
When MX Player scans, it saves the real path to avoid file duplicate file listing.
when you set to scan only /mnt/extSdCard on video folders it will list file. But the file state is saved with the real path. Since it's outside of folder to be scanned it will be ignored & resume button will be hidden. As you add /storage/extSdCard to the list resume button will back.
It's because of lack of standardisation in mount point & unnecessary link of mount points across OEMs.
So, you have to be careful when selecting folders.
There are some workarounds that can fix the issue. I will discuss it with the developer. If you have any suggestions, it's highly appreciable.
I have attached the logs collected with mx log collector.

Can you confirm my statement?

About suggestions...
For example, QuickPic doesn't show these links in Explorer mode (there is only "emulated" folder in /storage/), but it may produce some troubles for users, I think.

Hidden Junk Pics

I haven't seen this issue in years with a phone where apps create some junk pics\files. My gallery doesn't show them, but Instagram and Snapchat do. I had to download file explorer to find and delete them, but how do I stop these from compiling again? Thanks!
These are usually the thumbnails generated for all the images you have in your phone.
How do you stop it from happening?

Normally thumbnails are in a hidden folder. Try to find out, which apps are responsible for those pictures (take a look at the folder name). For example telegram generates a lot of picture files. All pictures I see in a chat are downloaded by default. When you know the app there are probably settings (in telegram there are) where you can change that behavior...
Hope this could help.

You can create a file named ".nomedia" (with the point at the beginning) in this folder. Than the pictures should be hidden for normal apps.

In the folder, where the pictures are generated. In general you can put such a ".nomedia"-file in any folder. In this folder, where you put the file, the media scanner of android will not scan for pictures, music, ... Of course also in all subfolders.

You can create it with an texteditor on your PC. Just create a new text file. Than save empty file as ".nomedia". Then copy it in the directory you want...
