I tried to like Blinkfeed but find that I don't use it, especially now that I use Apex Launcher. Seeing as Blinkfeed is baked into the OS, and that it can't be fully disabled, does anyone have thoughts on how to minimize any battery drain that the app may have? Is the most I can do simply to unsubscribe all feeds and remove it as a home screen?
Thanks for any guidance.

Not sure if there's a way to disable auto-refresh, but you can set it to auto-refresh on wifi only.
That will help a little.
I have the impression that it drains very little battery though - it rarely refreshes on its own and I usually have to pull it down to do a manual refresh.

I just got the ADW.Launcher and it has been the best home replacement app so far.
You have the nexus one like app drawer and shortcut dock, and you can adjust the speed the pages flick, page bounce back (like the iphone) and set the number of pages you want to have.
Fully supports all widgets, and really fast (no lag at all like open home or a home)
the best thing is i've used my x10 for 5 hours straight and its only gone down to 95% battery left.
give it a try!
Am using it. Love the Sense Preview, although it could be less choppy (but they fixed most of that in the latest version). Also like the dock bar, and applications drawer.
it great, however, before on one of main screen I had option to turn wifi, bluetooth, phone and gps on the fly by tapping on it. Now after I installed ADW, it is gone, does anybody know how to get it back or something alternative?

Curious if anyone found an app that hides apps from the drawer. I don't want a themer like LauncherPro or ADW. I'm not looking for Titanium Backup to Freeze them, or Hide It Pro, to hide them and not make them available.
The idea is to hide a few things that run as background items...like AVG, Lookout, etc.
Please let me know.
You mean hide them from the notifications area?
Sent from my awesome SGS4G
No. Not the notifications area. I would like to hide them from the apps page, where all of the applications are. I may have used the incorrect term.
what launcher are you using?

I think any custom launcher can help you with that. There's a hide apps option in Launcher Pro, I'm sure others have that too, but not TW (the one that comes on samsung phones)
No. I am not running a custom launcher. I am not looking for a custom launcher. I do not want a custom launcher. In my original post, I explained that I don't want a custom launcher.
SGS4G stock runs fine, I've deleted the bloatware. I just want an app similar to Hide It Pro, where it will hide certain apps. The difference is, I want to still have these things running, and have access to them.
Here are a few things that I anticipate people to ask, along with answers.
Why don't you want to run another custom launcher? They are convenient, however their convenience decreases the overall speed and function of the phone and its apps. I would rather the phone ran fast.
Why don't you overclock the processor? Good idea. Bad results. I had the Galaxy Vibrant 3g. The battery life on that thing is ****. It doesn't last through the day doing nominal tasks. The difference between the Vibrant 3g, and the sgs4g for the battery is 150mAh. 3G=1500mAh, 4G=1650mAh. Overclock the processor, you kill your battery faster.
Why not run Juice defender to make the battery last longer? Running another app that will increase the battery life of another app that is decreasing it while running something that slows down the phone is ridiculous.
So if u hide them how will u access them?? Unhide them?? Then rehide??

The search function will show hidden apps.
As far as another launcher slowing your phone down, that's the funniest thing I've read in awhile. Most launchers are quicker and lighter than stock and add more functionality.

I already have Appex and Go Launcher installed. Appex opens with my phone. I also like Go Launcher and would like to test some other launchers like Nova. I was wondering what happens with the launchers that are not open. Do they or any of their services run in the background ? Do they anyway affect battery or cpu performance? Is it wise to have three or four of them installed?
Any opinion on the matter would be much appreciated...
they needa Little bit resource, but no worth worrying about. ithink.

Every launcher has notifications and sometimes the automatic updates could be set as default. So keep that in mind when you don't use a launcher, it should never show in the running app list. What I do to make sure, I freeze the app. Of course, you need to be rooted for that.
hope this helps

Does anyone else find that multiple go wallpaper shows down their phone? I'm running a evo 4g and it seems to get sore when running the mult wallpaper. Is there any multi wallpaper app that won't do this?
Not sure exactly how much of an effect your talking about but I use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper and dont see much of a slow down. Try it out and let me know what you think

Well, it sort of lags for me too on go launcher. Just get an app that clears ram or running apps. That should do the trick.

Well is there a way to set an app to automatically clear ram and running apps instead of you having to constantly do it?
Try Go task manager and set auto clear every hour.

A lot of people have been having trouble finding out how to enable download booster and until a developer makes a mod to enable the native settings in your settings this is the only wave I know of to be able to do so.
In order to do this you will need to use a third party launcher. In this example I use Nova Launcher - launchers like Apex should work as well (as well as most decent third party launchers).
1. Go to home screen.
2. Hold down your finger on the screen till menu pops up.
3. Click on Shortcuts.
4. Click on Activities.
5. Scroll down to "Settings" and click on it which will open up a long list of things.
6. Scroll through the list till you find Download Booster. Click on it.
7. Now you will have a shortcut on your home screen that will take you to the download booster settings screen.
8. Enable download booster.
9. Enjoy
P.S. Wasn't 100% what forum to put this under as it's obviously not "development" nor did I think it was general or Q/A so I thought here was the most fitting (as it is kinda an "app" I guess?) - mods feel free to move to this to the appropriate forum if need be.

There's also an app on the play store called activity launcher that will work to open and/or create the shortcut as well.

Also like the S5 from Sprint its there but thats all it is until someone can get it working. When its working it will show both download speeds and show the icon as bright not grey. Unless its working for someone else i just know its not for me same issue with s5 until someone modded it.
I understand what this does, but what is the benefits of enabling this? Does this interfere with Wifi calling?

I can confirm that the icon will show up with this method but it does not light up. Looks like the feature is disabled.

Heads up, the Galaxy Tools app in the playstore will add the native icon to the quick settings in the notification bar....just select "Add all Notification Toggles"....throws a few extra in there as well
Works
Its there but don't "work"
I found some other settings that were thought to be lost to this phone. Smart scroll, and hand gesture call answering. Do the same thing, shortcuts, activities, settings, smart scroll and air gesture.
