I've been running on stock rom, s-off n w xposed. Everthing has been going great for a month now. I haven't really been tweaking anything but this morning. I woke up w the notification saying my sd card was unexpectedly removed.
It's a SanDisk microSDXC 64GB. I've even popped it out n tried it on the computer thinking my sd card burnt out but it's fine. I cleared dalvik n cache... Restarted... Opens to checking sd then sd card unexpectedly removed. I tried restarting xposed bc I do have HandleExternalStorage mod. I even turned it off to try that out. I have to admit that since the beginning of receiving this phone, the access to data on my sd card has always been laggy.
So do u guys think it's a hardware problem? Or anyone else w any ideas on how else to determine if it's a hardware or software problem?

I had a similar issues with my headphone jack. I've never used it but found the device thought the headphone were always plugged in causing the problems of no sound from speakers and all calls trying to push audio through headphones. I ended up cleaning the headphone jack with a q tip and rubbing alcohol and after a half hour finally got the jack to release. Def hardware problem here. My guess is the same for you. You could always backup your Rom and flash a fresh rom just to see if it's possibly software. If not try cleaning inside the sdcard slot with the same combination. Could be dirt or dust inside.

Thanks for the tip. I actually tried a couple of things, cleaning included. Eventually it was my SanDisk 64GB microSDXC card that was running funny. I moved it from my rezound n never reformatted it to the m8. I popped in a Samsung 64GB microSDXC, brand new, n it worked like a charm.
The odd thing is I don't understand y it just kept saying microsd unexpectedly unmounted. Maybe it it just needs to be reformatted or maybe my sdcard is dying. Gonna reformat the SanDisk and try it again on phone later. If not gonna send it back for warranty

Try a different card?????

My sensation gives me "removed sd card" or "damaged sd card" message everytime the phone starts to get hot a bit. If i use the phone too intensely, the bottom part (where the sim and sd cards are located) gets really hot.
Then the only way i can get my sd card to reconnect again is to wait until the phone has completely cooled down and restart it.
It does this on many roms so I don't think it's a rom issue. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if there's a fix for it. It's starting to get really annoying.
I'm currently on firmware 3.32 and running AOKP but it did the same thing on CM9.
Thanks.

I haven't tried formatting it yet... i will try with another sd card first to see if that may be the problem (the one currently in my Sensation is 32gb and it's going to take me forever to back up everything and put it back) and if so I'll reformat it. Fat32, right?

You are correct, this need's to be done mate, so you have to put up a bit with data transfer If you have class 10 as i do it will take up to 30 min each direction ( i have 28 gb of data) Thought i think that card is culprit) ... Time will tell.
BTW i always format sd from recovery
Without inspecting your hardware (that sounds dirty) I can't know for sure but it's a possibility that the excess heat is causing an already damaged SD Card to expand just enough to screw with it. When it cools, whatever is damaged probably shrinks back to normal and all the electrical pathways in the card re-align properly.
That shouldn't happen. An undamaged SD Card will still expand with heat just like anything else (not noticeably, but expansion still occurs whenever anything gets hot) but it won't cease to function properly.
Remember you're dealing with REALLY tiny electrical pathways in a Micro SD Card. Even slight expansion causing misalignment could screw everything up.
In other words, like everyone else said, get a new SD Card.

But what's funny is when the sd card heats up I can still read it with my computer...
I just tried with another sd card, rebooted a bunch of times to get the phone to heat up a bit (if I would do that with my 32gb it would disconnect) but everything works fine. So at least now I know it's my sd card and not the phone itself.
I'm backing up my data to at least try reformatting it before getting a new sd card (i think i only have a class4 so it's going to take a while). If I start using a new sd card i'll need to transfer my stuff anyways.
Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. Also I forgot to mention that even when I can't access the sd card from the OS, I can access it from recovery, so I doubt that the card is actually damaged. Hopefully reformatting it will fix the issue, I will let you guys know.
Just to update on my sd card situation, I started to back up my data to reformat it, and I cleaned it up a bit by removing some unused folders and files at the same time. All of sudden no matter how much the phone heats up, the sd card doesn't disconnect anymore...

Yaeeeee keep the money in pocket
im on my second s3 (first one screen shattered) which ive had for about 3 months now and since new i got a 32gb scandisk 10 sd card, everything was working fine till about a week agao then i started getting "sd card unexpectly unmounted" i would remove the card, reinstall, then would get the message " preparing sd card " then phone would show card but either say "blank card or unsupported files" then sometimes the phone wouldnt read that there was a card installed. i tried pressing mount sd card and nothing would happen.
now the strange thing i have a galaxy tab2 and the 32gb works great in that, so i tried formatting card with tab2, reinstalled iinto s3 and same problem. now i did take the 2gb card i had in my s3 and it works fine, the phone is rooted and have always ran Cleanrom or Wicked sensations roms. i did a loy of searchs but havent had much help on finding an answer.
somebody please help.
Bill
anyone?
I had the same problem, come to find out, it was a cheaply made sd card. Think I paid 10-15 bucks at most for a 32gb class 8 card. I bought a scandisc card and have been fine since.
And just for info.... I read online that others were having this same issue and that it was the card not seating in the slot very well. If you took your phone back to the store they would exchange it. I took it in, got a new phone, and the same thing happened (unrooted, rooted, romed, it didn't matter) Got a new card and it was fixed.

Have you tried connecting it to your computer via sd adapter to see if files are there. If you cant read any files it may be a bad card but you can always format it while connected to the computer and see if that helps. If computer reads your files i would suggest you move files to computer, format, then try it on your phone and if it still doesnt work than maybe its the problem suggested above my post with it not seating correctly. Good luck
Every time I swap a battery from my charger into a phone, it does not recognize the SD card. I power down and then swap the battery. It again recognizes in a day or two. Anybody know what could be the problem? This is Sandisk 32 GB. Worked fine with my S4.
Have you tried reformatting the card yet? I had a similar issue when I went from the Streak to the Note 1. I eventually reformated the card and it stopped happening, but the card failed completely shortly after. Not sure what happened. Everything was normal before I switched phones and seemed normal (for the couple of weeks befored it failed) after I reformatted the card.

I have an issue with it unmount in and remount in my sd card. Some of my pictures also dissappear and come back and some im not able to view.
Yes I reformatted but the card is a goner. It is not recognized at all now. Just ordered another one Samsung 64 GB EVO from Amazon. Hope this will work longer than Sandisk. Anybody know how to get my music from iTunes from my MAC on Edge? On my S4 I had used Kies but any other options?
I have been using my phone since last night and after my last reboot I have a recurring 'SD Card For transferring photos and media' notification. It lets me dismiss it then re-appears after a few minutes. If i click on it it opens up 'My Files' but there are no messages or options regarding the notification. Long pressing the notification loads up 'System UI' App notifications but again nothing that helps remove the notification. Anyone else have this problem? I have looked through every settings page, My Files options, google etc but I have found no solution.
That happened to me too but I don't think there is a fix sorry ?
+1... It's a bummer!
Keeps happening to me too
Tried formatting but that didn't help. Ejecting and re-mounting seems to fix the issue for a few minutes.
I smell a fast patch incoming lol. Especially since there wasn't a zero day patch.

I only get the sd-card notification after power the phone on. Never comes back unless I shut phone off and reboot. I was having very slow to wake phone issues while I used a new Samsung 128gb class 10 sd-card. I changed UT to a 64gb SanDisk sd-card, class 10 U3. No more issues.
Only happens to me when reboot phone.
same here, only when i reboot my phone, regular s7
Something on my phone is dismounting the sdcard (says something about unexpectedly dismounting for a few seconds) and the message pops back up when it re-mounts. I don't think its a bad card because I just got it last month and used it with my S4 for weeks without any issues. Going to try re-seating the card.

You're not alone so it might just be picky about the cards it uses or maybe this first batch has bad slots... Which would suck. You could try folding a small piece of paper or construction paper and taping it to the top of the card to make it thicker and press against the contacts better. It may just be a thinner card. Make sure the paper is securely taped so it doesn't come off in the phone.

Sounds like the same issue some people had with the S2 back when I had it. It was very picky with which SD cards it would allow without this problem. I will also try connecting it to my pc in a card reader and running disk check when I get home.
Really curious if a Samsung card would do this...Anyone using one?

I haven't tried a Samsung card but finally gave up and ordered a Sandisk Ultra 128gb. Will try it tonight and report back. The message for the sd card should always appear on boot since the card is re-mounted but it shouldn't appear after that until the next reboot. Previously had a PNY Turbo 64gb U3 card which was dismounting frequently. If someone could report back on Samsung cards that would be great!
Add me to the troubled SD card.
I'm using Sandisk 128GB Class 10. It did the mounted notification for the first little bit it was in the phone. I actually had previous data on mine from my G4....photos, etc.
It didn't go away when I swiped it, so I tapped on the notification and explored the SD Card for a few mins just to see what I had on there (had forgotten), and next thing I know, the notification had gone away. Hasn't come back since...
Same to me also. I use S7 reformat and I get it. When I do a cold boot I get it.
Looks like replacing the PNY Turbo 64GB U3 card with a Sandisk Ultra 128GB U1 card has resolved the issue. Only get the message at boot and that is normal. It is likely that the phone is just picky with SD card manufacturers/chips.

I'm using a Samsung elite and it pops up every 10 minutes also controllers don't work with otg cables
Same here
Every reboot
But doesn't bother me
I have had my S7 since pretty much the beginning, I was fortunate enough to receive mine fairly early compared to others. Along with purchasing my new phone, I got a Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 SD card to take advantage of the expandable storage. Everything had been going find until earlier today. I noticed that I got a notification that my SD card was corrupt, I didn't think it was that big of a deal as I didn't have very much data on the card as of yet so I clicked the option to format it. The phone seemed to be having issues reading the actual card as it couldn't seem to format it, an error kept popping up saying that the command had failed. I then put the SD card into my laptop to see if I'd have any more luck with it, and sure enough windows told me that the only way the card could be read was if it was formatted. After formatting the card through my computer, I put it back into my phone. It worked for about 5 minutes or so before telling me it was corrupt again, I'm not exactly sure where to go from here.
I had this Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC Memory Card with Adapter (MB-MP64DA/AM) from amazon with my S4 with no problems since it went on sale back in December. Last Friday I got the same message that it was now corrupt and I need to format it. My computer cant see it and I have some intense data recovery software that cant help either. Since those little SD cards have a 10 year warranty I got on the phone to Samsung. I spoke with a Samsung Galaxy expert and they advised me to call their Micro SD support team at 1-800-726-7864. I'll call them tomorrow and report back what they say.
Prolly got a fake from amazon
Amazon do insist they don't sell fake cards, however I have had the exact same problem with the exact same memory card, also bought off amazon. I've used this card in a few different phones with no issue, however upon installing it in my GS7, within a few days I got the same error message as described here. I have contacted Amazon and have had a replacement card (same one) and will see how it goes. I'm on about day three so far with no apparent issues. Tick Tock Tick Tock.....
I'll probably call them up also.. but I think I'll see what happens with yours before I just destroy another SD card
Just got off the phone with Samsung. They're sending me a RMA form to fill out through my email for a replacement. After the whole amazon fake SD card fiasco they're going through they are being very helpful so far. If you can return to amazon it will probably be quicker but I am at day 100 or so with this card.
I think I have the same problem. I have a Samsung card also (not evo) and have used it in several phones without a problem until now. In my case the card corrupts at reboot. I managed to f around and somehow the card was readable again (after re-inserting several times). However on the latest reboot I the phone no longer detects the card at all.
I doubt I have a fake card as I have been using it for over a year now and almost filled the capacity (64GB). I even formatted it when I first inserted into the GS7.
I have since ordered a new card but I hope this phone is not going to be killing cards!
RMA received. Samsung wanted a jpg or pdf of sales receipt and a pic of the back of the card. Card will be mailed to Samsung at my expense ($2 ish) and a new unit will be sent out. Fingers are crossed that the fast charge tech isn't sending card killing voltage spikes through the phone.
Just a quick update guys, in case it helps anyone, but my new card replaced from Amazon is working OK so far without issue.
Update, whilst it hasn't killed my SD card, I've just had an update and after that it refuses to write to any memory card I have. So I'm returning it tomorrow, it will read OK, but not write to.
I'm using a samsung pro+ 64GB card with my S7 and that annoying SD card notification keeps popping out. Sometimes I could see another notification said SD card removed/unmounted unexpectedly then the annoying notification. I've tried using an old 32GB TF card and I've never seen this annoying notification.
My guess is that S7/S7E have some compatibility issue with even Samsung's own newer and faster SD cards.
I'm waiting anxiously for an OTA hoping this is a software issue. I hope my S7 won't corrupt my SD card.
Update: Just received my replacement micro XD from Samsung in less than 2 weeks, very cool. I like their new usb card reader, very slick. Well see how long this lasts. I also just had a OTA update to the S7. Lets see what they fixed.
BlueT
Same issue
Exactly same scenario as bensto23 first described, same SD card, however....I replaced that 64GB Samsung EVO with a Patriot 128GB and after about 2 weeks the same message popped up. But when I put this card in my laptop it couldn't see a problem (the Samsung was unreadable). So the Patriot went back in and everything was good until about a week later....same thing. S7 says the card is corrupted but it's not and works fine after removing and replacing. Haven't had time to call Samsung support but obviously this looks like an ongoing issue. So frustrating since this phone has been so flawless otherwise.
My S7 is in for repair as I type this. It's 6 weeks old. I had a 64GB SD card that I had used in my S5 for 18 months with no issues. I didn't have an S6 due to lack of SD slot and not waterproof. At 3 weeks old, the 64GB card developed a problem. I removed it from my S7, put it in my laptop, only to find it was corrupted, and I couldn't do anything with it. I put it down to being one of those things, and bought a 128GB SD. 3 weeks in again, and exactly the same fault! It is a hardware issue with the S7. I put my 32GB SD card in from my LG Leon, and the S7 wouldn't read that either. Be interesting to see what Samsung will do about replacing cards that have been destroyed by a phone!
Think i might be facing the same problem. When i put in a Sd card my phone freezes up a couple of times a day and without a sd card it running fine. I even think it messed up my first sd card because even after a format i cant write files bigger then 1 gb onto the card without getting a error on the computer. Also i can only do a quick format and if i do a full/long one it will eject the drive and fails every time. Im to scared to try a new sd card and think ill send this one back for warranty.
corrupt sd card
i have same problem with A7(2016) but i use 64GB U3 kodak SD card. it works fine until last week. i saw that i cant play musics so open memory by ES file Explorer and it says that empty. but when connect it to my loptop it had no problem and i find some files that recently created and remove files with 0 byte size. then connect memory to my phone it works nice but some day later the sd corrupts again and i repeat every thing i do last time and it work but sometime later corrupt again. i am confused how i can stop this cycle
help if can please
sorry my english language is not good
Every phone I've had, every forum for that phone, complains of issues with Samsung cards, I would never touch Samsung cards. I've never had an SD card corrupt or fail but then i've never bought a Samsung card.
Got the same problem. Every time I reboot or unmount the external sd-card, the card becomes "corrupted". When I put the card in my PC it's just fine. I can read and write to the card.
I've got the 128gb sd card from Samsung (got it for free with the purchase of the phone).
Getting sick and tired of having manually backup and restore to my SD-card when I reboot my phone. Does anyone has a solution for this?
**EDIT
This must be software related, since when I do not reboot, the SD-card works perfectly fine. It only happens when I reboot or unmount.
had the same problem in my s7, it turned out for me the culprit is when I enable the pics saving to extsd option in camera. this corrupts my extsd.
before extsd it worked perfectly fine for days and weeks and survived plenty of reboots in the S7 (and in my previous phones as well), but as soon as I enabled the pics saving from camera to extsd option in the s7, at next reboot the message about corrupted camera came out. I can replicate this problem with these exact steps, so it is 100% sw issue for me, and related to that option in camera settings... if I use my intsd for camera pics, everything works just fine, I can see and access all my other content in the extsd etc.......
