Well, lol why'd you change the host file permissions?
You can easily fix this by flashing a ROM, it'll rewrite the permissions you, have currently with new ones.

[Q] How install deleted system app?

Hello,
I know there're many topics with this question, but I tried everything what people said and nothing works.
I use sgs2, android 4.0.3(XXLPW, rooted), use debugging is enabled.
When I push app to /system/app and set right permissions, application after reboot doesn't appear in drawer,
Sorry, I know my English isn't too good.
Can anyone help me? Maybe I am doing something wrong?
See if the app name has any spaces...
Like (for eg only) : if its "touch wiz.apk", rename it to "touchwiz.apk"
And also check if you have mounted /system as r/w...
Typed using a small touchscreen
I know how UNIXs works, app name is ClockPackage.apk, there isn't any white spaces.
Any app after push to /system/app and set right permissions, doesn't appear in drawer.
I think clockpackage is a widget?
Check, whether after the reboot, the package is still present in /system/app...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Or it is just not compatible with your device/rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
it isn't widget, but "clock 1.0"
and it's compatible with my rom, because it's from my rom xd
Try this.Keep it in system/app but also install the apk normally via terminal or file manager because maybe it has to make some data files
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
topic can be closed, I install new rom.

[Resolved] [Q] Change default download location/downloader

I am using a Sprint Samsung Galaxy SIII running Cyanogen Mod 11 LTE build.
I am new to the fourm. I know many people have asked how to change the download location before, but I am unable to even use a alternate downloader. I use chrome beta as my browser. I downloaded ES File Explorer and Download Manager, but it never prompted me to use either as the default downloader. I even went into the settings and cleared the defaults. It still never prompted me to use them. Can anyone help?

I use ES File Explorer also and if you want to change the download folder or location goto:
=> Fast access (swipe to right)
=> Go to settings (in back) - select
and you will see a another menu with: - display settings - cleanup settings - Directory settings
- Select and you can change your home directory - your bluetooth share path and your download path
You just need to search a little bit in your apk

Thanks, but for some reason it never prompted me to use it as a downloader. Do you have a fix for that? I think it is a very rare problem since I couldn't find anything about it on the form.

[GUIDE] Enable Download Booster On Verizon - DETAIL INSTRUCTIONS

I basically took the instructions from XDA member "chronicaust" and made them simple with 1 single download link for the service files, and links to all apps needed. People were having trouble understanding the process in the original thread. So I hope this simplifies it and makes it clear for any new people. All I did was reorganize this process and hopefully make it easier for most people. The original instructions were confusing for me... I don't take credit for developing this at all!
Confirmed working on Verizon Retail Edition
DOWNLOAD THESE:
1. ES File Explorer - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en
- Make sure to enable root by going to the little icon (globe with phone on it) in upper left corner > Tools > Root Explorer > On
2. Download the modified services.odex and services.jar from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qs6y60vb6392um2/vz_db_services_files.zip
ONCE YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED THE ABOVE:
1. Copy both modified services.odex and services.jar to your phone if you downloaded them to your computer (if you downloaded them to your phone then unzip and move to next step)
2. Copy or move the modified services.odex and services.jar to the /system folder in the root directory of the phone using ES File Explorer
3. Fix permissions on both files to rw-r-r (3 checks in first column, first check in second, rest blank)
- To fix permissions, longpress on the file and it will be checked off, then click in lower right corner: More > Properties > Change (next to permissions)
4. Copy services.JAR from the system root folder to the /system/framework folder, select overwrite.
5. Copy services.ODEX from the system root folder to the /system/framework folder, select overwrite.
6. Your phone should pause for 10-15seconds and reboot. If it doesn't reboot automatically then reboot manually.

Thank YOU!! I couldn't figure out with the other thread, this was simple and easy to follow, just a suggestion, when you mention root system folder, it would probably make it less confusing for others if you mention that it's not the actual folder called "root" under system.
Well not sure what I did wrong. Copied over the the two files into the framework folder. The phone froze and rebooted as expected. It then said optimizing about 400 apps. After that finished it just kept saying "Unfortunately, Verizon Login has stopped.", "NFC Service", "com.android.phone", "Google search", "Pica something..." and several others in an endless loop. :/
EDIT: Downloading the stock Verizon tar... What a pitty. I cannot access anything.

Yeah I changed the permissions for both. (Granted I ended up removing permissions?) The only thing I did that might be different from what you said is copy both files with the permissions already changed at the same time then it froze.

I'm not sure why so many people are obsessed with enabling this feature. People like me who don't have unlimited data don't care to piss it away with "boosting" my download speeds. Plus, I don't really download anything worth needing it anyways but all the power to the rest of you

I followed the steps and after it updated apps. My Wifi Tether notification icon has changed. It shows the USB one instead of the usual radio signal icon. and when I click on the notification, it takes me to the USB and Bluetooth tether screen. Whereas before, it took me right to the WIFI Tether screen.
When I backed up the files to change them back, I realized that I backed up the wrong files.
Stupid me.
Does anyone have the stock JAR and ODEX files? I'd rather have the convenience of tether than download booster.
Thanks in advance.

I followed all the way up to replacing services.jar and when I do replace it, it says unfortunately (a bunch of apps) has stopped. It causes me to have to do a battery pull, and when I do power it back on, it gets stuck on the Verizon logo screen. I've tried it a few times with both root explorer, efs file explorer, and both files at the same time/services.jar first. Every time I try, I have to restore my rom using safestrap. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Edit: I tried flashing the zip in the main thread and it's working so far without any hiccups.
@waleed300
Can you put a disclaimer on the OP that states that enabling this (if you have native hotspot enabled) will mess with your WiFi Hotspot toggle since it replaces the services.jar? Hotspot still works, but the running notification is incorrect. Just a thought....

If you want to fix it, you have to replace your services.jar with the stock one (this is how I fixed it with the help of Versatile1). And I had a question, when your mobile hotspot running notification was the correct one, clicking the running notification took you to the hotspot options but did long pressing the quicksetting still take you to the USB tether options? Was just wondering.
Download Booster not using LTE?
So I've had Download Booster enabled for a little while after following this post. I've noticed a couple of things:
1. When downloading large files, DB doesn't always appear and when it does appear, LTE is never used.
2. During the download, DB disappears.
I wasn't sure what the reason was for the odd behavior but was curious to see if anybody else has noticed it.
I would make a donation for a 1-click apk solution like towelroot.

That's surely the right way!
If you change directly SystemUi.apk with a root explorer, your device becomes instantly unusable, you can't even change permissions.
At least, it's my experience with other devices.

Yup. Usually modifying critical files on the /system partition is best in the twrp recovery file manager to avoid crashes and malfunctions and all that other craZy stuff.

Need help after installing custom ROM

So, the ROM works fine and everything is dandy, but the main issue that irks me is that I have to press "ok" every time after disabling data:
http://gyazo.com/24c68b47ea03f668397c798bac1df55f
Is there a way I can change that the message does not show up or do I need to go into ADB? I'm not sure how ADB works either.
TestKnow has also released a universal ADB driver. Not sure how well that works or if anyone has pointers because I had a tough time installing ADB in the first place.
Another issue is the messenger app. There's a different version of the stock messenger app that I want to install because in this version I can send messages without typing anything:
http://gyazo.com/f38f7d74870c98b40d1e39ab66d24e19
I tried to push another app before but it just permanently crashed the app and I had to reflash. Is there another way? ADB again?
Thanks.
Sadly this is present in both stock 5.0.2 and 5.1.1.

The disabling data thing? I mean, I can live with this and the other issue, but I would be happier if I could fix them. I know phones aren't perfect so I'm just trying to be realistic here. I haven't downloaded any apps yet to see if I can remedy these two things first. Thanks for replying.
If you're rooted you can use mobile toggle data from xda.
Google it.
With that you can either make a widget or Tasker profile.

I meant from the pulldown menu like in this picture: http://gyazo.com/24c68b47ea03f668397c798bac1df55f
It's not a dealbreaker for me but it would be nicer.
Would you know how to push an apk into the system drawer? I wanted to add a different version of the messenger and maybe keyboard app.

You can use ROM toolbox pro to convert a user app to a system app.
Or if you already have a system app apk file then just paste or move it /System/app or priv app and set permissions using a file explorer then reboot phone.
