[Q] Restore Nexus 5 to stock - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friends,
Today I bought a used nexus 5 for a little money. The only problem with it is that it wont boot anything because the seller wiped all data (inc. OS) which he thought was a factory reset. He was really stressed this happened and sold me the phone for even less. The only thing he did in the past was install a recovery mode.
My question:
How can I restore the phone to stock ROM? Currently there is no ROM installed. Everything is wiped.
What I already did:
- Download the 4.4.3 (KTU84M) version.

Use fastboot and flash factory image.
Refer sticky for guide.

Hey,
Thanks for the answer. I did these steps. Fastbooted hammerhead-ktu84m and everything works. According to devs.google I should relock bootloader. Is it neccesary?

I tried a google search about this and it gave me nothing haha, that's why I made this post. When you say factory reset do you mean back to stock? Were you on a custom ROM?

It's a common issue. You need to factory reset with stock recovery (or possibly format data with TWRP, unsure of that). Make a nandroid, copy it to your computer, flash stock recovery, factory reset, flash custom recovery, restore nandroid. Fixed.
This information is also hidden away in post #2 of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701

I used the Franco Kernel Updater to restore the stock kernel 4.4.2.
It went boot-looping ...
I went to Recovery mode, reset to factory ...
Finished, reboot now
It was still boot-looping ...
I reset to factory once again, and it is still boot-looping ...
Anyone can help?
Thanks.

Yes it is. You returned to stock then modified it so it is no longer stock. You cannot update unless you're still stock, but you're not. So flash latest stock.

I used CWM recovery to install it and then i got a more specific error (/system/framework/core.odex contains..., so it is xposed)Should I reflash the system.img, and does this wipe data?

If you use the flash all method in the link above it will wipe your data. If you fastboot flash system.img only then nothing gets wiped
All guides and info threads are available in my signature

OK whatever. You asked if it wiped data, which insinuates that you don't quite know enough.
Anyway, whatever, you know where the guides and info threads are now. Every question you've asked is covered there so please read them before posting threads
Thanks.

I read many Website and I only read that flashing all images will wipe everything, I already thought that it will only wipe /system, but I wanted to be sure, losing data isnt funny

Restoring Nexus 5 to stock: will it replace TWRP?

Hi all,
I have a Nexus 5 that I'm trying to return to stock. I'd like to keep the bootloader unlocked, however. If I follow the instructions here (minus the bootloader lock part): https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images will I be all good to go with a completely wiped, good-as-new phone? Also, will this overwrite TWRP, which I currently have on the phone?
If you follow the instructions and flash everything, yes it'll go back to stock and replace twrp with stock recovery as well
If you flash the img files individually, you don't have to flash the recovery img if you want to keep twrp tho

Thanks! I think I'll just do that, but I'll keep the bootloader unlocked in case I need to flash more things later.

If you're flashing stock, remember there's a built-in behaviour that checks for stock recovery: if it's not there, it will overwrite whatever is there (twrp, in this case) with stock recovery, on every reboot.
You'll need to take care of this if you want a stock+twrp permanent combo.

After looking at this guide, it says that you need to do a factory reset in the stock recovery after flashing all the images. Is this outdated information?

Yep, next time you're on stock checkout /system/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p files.

I flashed the factory image through ADB and Fastboot and phone into the bootloop then I factory reset the nexus and I checked the version there was 6.0 then I installed TWRP through toolkit and when boot into recovery and reboot the system it again went into bootloop and again I factory reset the device

If you used wugs fresh tool kit. Then the application with automatically root the phone when you chose to install a custom recovery (twrp). Stock kernel does not support root, hence the reason for the bootloop
If this is the case, you will need to flash a kernel, through TWRP, that has root options like elementalx or hells core.

Any Recommended toolkit ?
This would not have happened if you didn't use a toolkit.

I think you may need to read some tutorials and general information first before moving forward. There are some guides in the general forum of this section. Also in the Q&A area.
Read up first before you brick your phone.

I even used One Plus One and it is so easy to install TWRP and nothing happend
but when i installed TWRP on my Nexus It goes into bootloop and the frustrating part is it takes 20 30 to boot up even after factory reset. may be i used the wrong toolkit but i only find one for the nexus 5 Toolkit 2.0.5
Like it has been suggested please read up on some of the guides to understand how to use adb and skip the toolkit.
See these basics ones - http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-nexus-5-how-to-unlock-bootloader-t2507905 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
I like to keep the commands from this thread handy since it doesn't have much clutter - http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-update-rooted-device-to-5-1-lmy47d-t3050789 - but there are many guides reiterating this exact same commands.
Hope this helps you get out of your boot loop.
