Hi.
I'm trying to root my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (wi-fi)
I seem to have been able to root it however it seems busybox neither superuser is not detected by root checker app. As far as I'm aware busybox is needed to continue to install cwm right?
I have super user installed though...
Please understand this was gifted to me by a relative who lives in Australia i.e. origin of the product is Australian.
I can't seem to understand how to flash cwm onto this.
I followed a bunch of sites.
Links:
http://droidfirmwares.com/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-2-10-1-p5110-easy-tutorial.html/2 (mainly this but it seems I sort of followed mix advice of both)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309
I used the PDA option in Odin however after that I can't make head or tail of how to proceed to install clockworkmod recovery.
It seems incredible that just 2 weeks back I had been able to mod my Sensation XE and Xperia Z but am utterly confused as to how to proceed in this case. Please help.
Continuation
Apparently every time I run Odin and install it always installs and in root checker app it shows rooted however superuser and busybox are not shown although superuser asks permission for using root checker which I grant??
Whats happening? :X
I hope I have made my position a little clear.
1. It shows rooted in root checker
2. I have supersu installed (althought root checker denies it)
3. How do I proceed to install CWM (I tried installing couple of times from playstore it downloads the update after I select my model no: and after that it gets stuck on flashing)
4. Please explain step by step

Just picked up a Neo 4.5 as a gift for someone today. Rooted & installed SuperSU binary & App w/ Framaroot v1.9.4. Maybe the version you tried didn't have the correct strings for the MT6572 yet. I believe it worked with Boramir.
i need root too

I´'ve rooted several BLUs with Kingo Root (just Google search for it and install it on your laptop). The challenge if you are a noobie is that sometimes you miss a step OR people assume that you know the basics, so they forget to tell you about some important steps that you must take before you root.
Instructions:
1. Install Kingo Root.
2. On your BLU, open Settings (make sure you have allowed applications to be installed from Unknown Sources...you'll find this option under Security in the Settings)..
3. In Settings, go to About Phone and rapidly click on the "Build Number" as many times as it takes to say, "You are now a developer". This will open a new option in the Settings called Developer Options.
4. In Settings, now go to Developer Options and make sure it is ON and also turn on the USB Debugging. VERY IMPORTANT!
5. Now connect your BLU to your computer via a USB cable and wait till all the drivers are installed and the device is READY TO USE.
6. Disconnect your phone from the computer.
7. Run the Kingo Root software.
8. Connect your phone to the computer (Kingo will eventually connect to the phone and then will show you a big ROOT button.
9. Click the big ROOT button and sit back till it does its thing.
10. Wait till Kingo gives you the "ROOTED!" message and then you are done (so go ahead and unplug your phone from USB and close Kingo Root software).
11. Reboot your phone and confirm root (download Busy Box Checker from Play Store). You might also want to download Busy Box X and install the busybox binaries..
OPTIONAL SUPERUSER:
You don't have to do this next part if you're happy with Kingo User.
Note that these days, Kingo Root will install a superuser (su) binary that is controlled by their own app called Kingo User instead of the SuperSU app. If you want SuperSU by Chainfire, you have to search XDA for BETA SuperSU 2.49. You'll find a zip file with a beta version of SuperSU and a script that will eliminate Kingo User and replace it with SuperSU.
Install BUSY BOX X on your phone (download from Play Store).
Place the SuperSU v2.49 zip on your SD card in the phone (IT MUST BE THE VERSION 2.49 NOT THE OFFICIL 2.46 OR THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK). Then boot into recovery (to do that you turn your phone off and then after it is off, you restart it with the power button while you are holding down the volume UP button). Then you use the menu you find there to "Install a zip from SD card". Select the zip you just put on the SD card, and it will flash the SuperSU program and binaries to your phone, while deleting the Kingo User app and it's binaries. Now select Reboot System at the top of the menu and you're all done.

Any chance you could PM me or mirror the 1.9.4 apk? I can't find it from a reliable resource online, and 1.9.3 did not root my new Neo 4.5. Tried several other rooting tools, none of which worked, so I'd love to be able to get my hands on the apk you used to do the root.
Thanks!

You still have not rooted your Neo 4.5? Can you give us a little more information? Respond to the following questions:
1. Have you turned on Developer Options on the phone?
2. Have you turned on USB Debugging in the Developer Options?
3. Have you installed the USB drivers for your phone?
4. Download and run MTK Droid Tools (as administrator). Just Google it and you will find lots of sources for the software (including here on XDA). Then connect your phone via USB cable. What message is shown on the bottom left corner of the MTK Droid window? Take a screenshot of your computer screen if possible and post it here.
Once you've answered these questions, we'll be able to help you.

Hi, for everyone trying to root blu neo 4.5, I have recently got my phone rooted and had tried all the other root apps out there, but the one that did the job is 360 Root, you can download it from google play store or just google it online and download. you should watch the video on youtube also, it's not in English but will still help you to understand the step by step process.

[Q]; Is it safe ? Yes it is.
[Q]: Will it work for my device ? Try it and U will find out ...
[Q]:Unroot possible ? Sure use option in SuperSu apk or better backup recovery/whole stock rom.
Since many users proposed to me to create a new thread for fullroot of Galaxy Core 2 phones ( some models ), I decided to do so.
It's made for stock recovery for Galaxy Core 2 and for latest update of it.
Stock recovery for G355HN and any other custom recovery.
GC2 stock recovery phones have not fully working SELinux recovery support and the CF instalation of SuperSu won't work. Read : it also work in permissive mode.
Custom Recoveries :
TWRP :
Original developed by @Y300-0100 http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...55h-m-t2998094
modded by @Dhruvit Pokharna http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...-2-sm-t3013103
CWM :
Original developed by @cleverior.ipul http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...alaxy-t2990852
If you have working CWM / TWRP/ Mobile odin ( recovery with full SELinux support) you could use update script from ChainFire to obtain fullroot and install SuperSu or use latest update script by me.
What needed :
Galaxy Core 2 phone with android 4.4.2 able to goto stock/custom recovery, no other preroot attempts needed like preinstalled busybox, preinstalled init.d, because all this need the preroot access and installation.
This update zip is made specialy for G355HN devices. Tested on Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355HN on 4.4.2 Android on both stock roms available,
but it should work on some devices Galaxy Core 2 with stock/custom recovery.
How to :
Code:
1. Shut down your phone until last vibe ... it's OFF !
2. Enter stock recovery - hold 3 buttons (Menu + Power + Vol up)
3. After init select "apply update from external storage", press power button to enter
4. Select the previous downloaded zip . The file you have previously copied to extSdCard - and press power button ...
5. The script will run ...
6. If all goes ok, your phone should be rooted.
7. After boot android will upgrade - Superuser apk ask for update su binary.
8. No internet connection is neccessary for this step ... Select continue, normal way and wait for the success.
9. Hit thanks if it worked 4 you
Thanks for Superuser and binary goes to Chainfire
Powered by SuperSu !
And finaly :
About OTA updates and system status, CF Auto root options :
After rooting the device your system status will become custom ( Device status : Custum ).
You can check it in Odin mode ( download mode ), check current BIN and System status .
You can reset binary flash counter with Triangle Away but you cannot fool OTA update program so easy.
When you are rooted you can't check for updates OTA. There was a lot of chat about whether you had to defrost various apps etc. to fool the update feature. Using Wanam Exposed, under "Security Hacks" you get the option to change (fake) "System status" from "Custom" setting to "Official", and thus allowing you to check OTA using Samsungs update feature. Much easier than having to check Sammobile every day. Hope it helps someone.
... but the OTA removes root, so you have to root the updated version again. The almost same is with GravityBox.
CF auto root by Chainfire is still not available for GC2. Still waiting for it.

Nope, I have the Samsung Galaxy Core II SM-G355HN. It's completely new, bought through my mobile carrier. I updated the mobile to the latest version, 4.4.2.
Then I just intruduced a microSD card, transferred the required zip, and followed the easy steps. I've been using my GC2 for 2 days and I'm so happy I found this thread. I removed all the bloatware and all the apps I didn't want, then I installed Nova launcher and now this phone is so fast. I recommend you to install Nova launcher cause, in spite of being way faster and quite more responsiveness than anything else I've seen, the Touchwiz version that comes with this phone is awful, it's different from any other Samsung interface I've ever seen, I hate it. Besides, Nova is ultra customizable, I love it so much that I bought the PRO version. With the stock Touchwiz of the GC2, you can't even create a shortcut to "Manage Applications".
Cheers!

You don't need to install SuperSU first, it's automatically installed when rooting. I think you gotta have a 4.4.2 GC2. Why don't you update it through Settings/About device/Software update?

First of all read the thread. Mine root zip's are powered by SuperSU and not superuser !
If you have problem please state the problem what are you using and how . BUT FIRST READ THE THREAD CAREFULLY !!!!
worked for me.
This totally worked for me.. from rooted kinguser you'll need to flash it again to stock after that it went out smoothly... Thank you so much buddy... if you ever going here in Philippines, the beer and the chicks are on me.
No need to do that. The recovery update flashable zip first deletes all posible root apks and binary and cache data. Then installs the SuperSu apk and binary.
It works on stock recovery only.

Hi, StratOS_HTC, I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy Core II.
Everything is working fine, but when I check for new updates through "Settings/About device/Software update/Update", a pop-up message appears and says something like:
"Your software has been modified, you can't update"
If I go to "Settings/About device/Status/Device status", it says Custom, and I've read that in order to update the phone through carrier's way, the Device status should be Normal, not Custom. These are the solutions I've found, though I haven't tried them, cause may be I shouldn't update the phone.
If it says modified then you could try booting into recovery (I'm unsure how, don't have the device) and wiping your cache, then rebooting. There may be lingering fragments of data in your cache from previous updates that are causing the modified message to appear.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Core II SM-G355HN with Android 4.4.2 (the one that came with the phone). I've rooted it using your method, I have SuperSU, I also installed Xposed framework and GravityBox so I can make some tweaks that I really need in order to use my phone as I want. I also use Nova launcher.
Which one of those things is not allowing me to update the Core II? Is it root? Xposed framework may be? Or the tweaks I've made with GravityBox module?
Thank you!
"Your software has been modified, you can't update"
Samsung has made their own check programs during boot, recovery and OTA update.
The system status changed if you root the phone. The partition can be written to (rw), so primary the whole update procedure or modified system has primary been modified just because of the root procedure and Samsung checks.
You can change the status via Chainfire's TriangleAway, but not the whole OTA procedure.
If you read the post regarding Samsung checks you will find a lot of stuff, but primary the GC2 stuff is different.
Wiping the cache and unmounting SDCard doesn't work for out phone if you want to update throught OTA.
Use Kies and Odin.
Not working OTA update is tipicaly just because of the root and rooting and samsung checks.
You can update/flash it throught Kies/Odin. and root it again or use the rooted integrated roms/flashes.
All right, first of all:
Where can I see the release notes of the new update? May be the update is not worth this whole process...
Second, if I download Kies and update the phone through Kies, do I lose all my data in the phone?
Can I update it using Kies the normal way? I mean, connect the phone, open the program and click update.
Thanks!
So how can i do unroot
It works for me. So how can i do unroot. For personal reasons(I can not install app to external card)
In SuperSu apk there is a option "full unroot" use this for it.
You can use some apps to install or move apps to extSdCard.
But I think that stock kernel support only fat filesystem of extSdCard, correct me if I'm wrong, havent tried it.It would be great to have some ext partition and swap on extSdCard too,but for that we will have to recompile and add modules for fs to kernel.

Yay another one, I think this is the fourth of this same exact thread
You might want to mention how kingroot/kingoroot send your personal data to Chinese servers and the twrp builds you linked to only work fur the SM-T230, SM-T230NU, and SM-T231, and will not work for any of the several other Tab 4 7" variants
Just imagine that I just put all those threads together ahaha: )

I dont think that if you install first supersu me and then kingroot your tab, after root turn wifi off and use supersu me, no data sent to anyone........ anyways it doesnt send your passowords etc to china, just like browser data and few app datas.... but theres no way to get passwords.... all are crypted or hidden well in smali

I wouldn't be sure about that. If you type in your password, once rooted, anything can easily capture the keyboard input and log it or send it out. Let me elaborate. It's like the guys who say, "Hey I have a firewall installed so it cannot communicate out." Yeah, o.k., so all the firewalls do is manage IPTABLES, so if I am an application and have root access, I can do what I want to avoid your firewall rules quite easily. Just a thought.
Hmm, updating the binary will remove the @#$%&* thing , we're just going to use the app to root our phone, and I guess wiping cache and dalvik is necessary
BTW tab 4 is best for gaming because of it looks and size but due to a stupid Samsung company, 1.2ghz + vivante gc1000 expect lagging, I hope some kind hearted will make a custom kernel for overclocking this tab.
BTW There's no Tex plugin on gltools, installing default will not work, so you have to find a cracked version of gltools, well if you do that... R.I.P expect force closes

Well i didnt say anything about firewalls i was daying if you manually disable wifi and use king root, it wont be able to connect anywhere to send any data.... also you can search by date and time files made during root session and remove everything to prevent any keyloger to work
Have ODIN and a stock image ready!!!
Be careful with this root process! The sm-t237p 5.1.1 OH7 boot loops and won't hold the root or Philz recovery... Yet!:cyclops:

No. I can easily change the file and date stamp to match any given system file you already have so that it is not easy to find. Also, Kingroot will not run correctly and root your device properly if it cannot contact it's servers to download the proper exploit for your device. Now, if you are talking about disabling wifi only so that Kingroot cannot contact it's servers after you are rooted, well, if you use any data what so ever, it can use that same data connection. As an example, I have to have data of some type to login to my bank site, etc..
SM-T237P Specific maybe others with PhilZ recovery...

(they're spying watnu do but they have too many users so it would take like unlimited time to check all accounts and keybindings thru.....

Flashing recovery trips KNOX (no warranty or OTA updates) and the other method sometimes doesn't... Also, the recovery/zip method stopped working on lollipop and marshmallow with the older SuperSU builds but... Chainfire has a new BETA SuperSU 2.6X that is a systemless root and now working on the newer Android builds using the recovery/zip method. This seems to work for mostly ALL Samsung and Nexus devices... Read about it here:

I restored my nandroid backup in recovery just to try this on my sm-t237p lollipop and it worked the first time!!! All apps get root access OK except es file explorer(now bloatware anyway)... You might need to install busybox for things to work... :good:

(not spamming in case anyone got the idea)
I am gonna show you guys how its done real quick and with simple steps . The option to root the device with cf auto root process may result in boot loop/brick.
This process however needs kingo app :-
Steps : 1) Root your device with kingo root .
2)Kingo root can be done without the need of pc. Download the android version. (source : google.com)
3)Now as you've rooted with Kingo app , you will be flooded with kingo bloatwares. So to replace it with Su Super User follow next step.
4) Download Supersume app from google and run program.
5) It will replace your kingo app and binary files with Super SU. Uninstall any remaining kingo apps.
6) Reboot . And Boom !!! youre done .
